第二部分阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

If you are currently learning English, I highly recommend you check out the apps below.
Quizlet
When learning English, you probably have to memorize a lot of words. If you want to grow your vocabulary as fast as possible, a flash card app like Quizlet is a great shortcut. With Quizlet, you can create a set of flashcards with new English words you are trying to learn, and practice typing them out until you know them by heart. It’s a simple concept, but it’s highly effective.
Spotify
Spotify is not a language learning app. But chances are that you already use it or a similar app for listening to music or podcasts (播客) , and one of the effective ways to study is combining something you already use with your existing habits. If Spotify is already on your phone, you can subscribe to some podcasts for English learners or download playlists of songs for learning English, or make your own.
Beelinguapp
Beelinguapp makes reading in English as convenient as possible. It
shows you a text in your own language with the English translation side by side. Texts are short enough so that you can really dig into every word. They cover topics from fairy tales, science to current news articles. There’s even a “karaoke” feature where you can read along to audio, which helps you match up the English pronunciation with the English spellings.
Tandem
Tandem is a language exchange app which connects learners from all over the world. It can help you find a native English speaker who is trying to learn your native language, so you can swap language skills. If you only have five minutes to spare, you can simply exchange messages with a native English speaker. If you have more time, you can have a longer, digital “language exchange” by sharing voice notes, or using the video chat. It’s a great way to test your English skills out with real people.
21.What is Spotify intended to help people do
A.Develop a good habit. B.Listen to music or podcasts. C.Learn a foreign language. D.Memorize words with flashcards. 22.What is the advantage of Beelinguapp
A.Learners can use their native languages as reference.
B.It’s convenient for learners to transl ate voice notes.
C.It provides learners with a chance to tell their own stories.
D.Learners can sing English songs along to the music. 23.Which app can help people interact with a native speaker A.Quizlet. B.Spotify. C.Beelinguapp. D.Tandem.
After graduation, I decided to take the gym a little more seriously. Accompanied by a friend, I began a regular routine of walking on the treadmill (踏车) or climbing the stair machine.
One day, he suggested that we take up a sport. Me Sports No way.
I had spent my entire life as a person with no trace of athletic ability. I vetoed his idea.
Nevertheless, after a few weeks he convinced me to step onto an outdoor racquetball (短柄墙球) court. The first few “games” were quite funny. I hit the ball, sending it flying in every direction except for the direction that I had intended. Still, somehow, I managed to learn to play at a decent skill level.
“We’re not getting enough exercise. We should play tennis instead,” my friend said.
“Tennis I can’t play tennis! That involves real ski lls! I am not athletic; don’t you understand ” I firmly resisted his new attempt at ruining my life.
Nevertheless, weeks later, I found myself standing on a tennis court. The first few months were quite painful. But one day, as the ball came flying toward me, my racket and the ball finally met in what
tennis players refer to as the sweet spot. I had finally learned how to play tennis properly! Tennis would eventually become one of my favorite hobbies.
I learned an extremely valuable lesson during my journey toward mastering racquetball and tennis: I can do whatever I want, only if I set my mind to it. I just need to put in the work, and the results will follow. Had I not stepped outside of my comfort zone, I would have never discovered how much I enjoyed tennis. When I found the sweet spot in my tennis racket, I found the sweet spot in my life. 24.What does the underlined word “vetoed” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Rejected. B.Accepted. C.Changed. D.Tested.
25.What do we know about the author’s friend
A.He was very stubborn. B.He liked trying new things.
C.His favourite hobby is tennis. D.He is good at all kinds of ball games.
26.What attitude would the author take to his friend in the end A.Very curious. B.Quite confused. C.Very grateful. D.Quite unsatisfied.
27.What lesson did the author probably learn from his experience A.Great minds think alike. B.Time and tide wait for no man. C.God helps those who help themselves. D.All things are difficult
before they are easy.
Chinese cultural relic authorities on Thursday revealed some new discoveries from the puzzling Sanxingdui Ruins in Sichuan Province, including a gold mask, a huge bronze mask, bronze statues and ivory carvings.
A complete gold mask 37.2 centimeters wide, 16.5 centimeters high and about 100 grams in weight was unearthed from No.3 Pit. The golden mask shares a similar size and the same facial features as one of the bronze heads unearthed before. “This golden mask might be a part of the face of the bronze head,”
Ran Honglin, head of the Sanxingdui Institute of Archaeology (考古学), told the Global Times. Meanwhile, a large bronze mask, 135 centimeters wide and 74 centimeters high, was dug up from the same pit, which is relatively well preserved and it is the largest bronze mask ever discovered at the site.
Among the newly unearthed bronze statues from No.4 Pit, one standing figure is being jokingly called the ancient “ancestor” of the popular Japanese superhero “Ultraman” due to the pointed crown (王冠) on its head and his eyes that stick out. Another bronze statue has a special hairstyle that reminded people of the crown—shaped hat worn by Zhuge Liang, a Chinese statesman living during the Three Kingdoms period. And still another bronze
statue has a unique pose. The figure is kneeling down with his head turned to the right and his hands are on the front left side of his body, but most interestingly, the figure is standing on the balls of both feet with his heels high in the air. The shapes and decorations of these bronze statues make them unique as valuable resources for the research of the ancient Kingdom of Shu, some 3,000 years ago.
Currently, the third and fourth pits have produced 729 and 1,073 relics, including three relics made from unknown materials. Meanwhile, 200 ivory relics have been discovered in the eighth pit. 28.What do we know about the bronze mask
A.It is the most complete relic ever discovered.
B.It has the largest size of its kind unearthed at the site.
C.It was dug from the No.4 Pit of the Sanxingdui Ruins.
D.It has the same facial features as a bronze head previously found. 29.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A.The significance of the bronze statues. B.The similar images of the unearthed statues.
C.The digging process of the bronze statues. D.The characteristics of the three bronze statues.
30.What makes one bronze statue look like “Ultraman”?
A.Its eyes and crown. B.Its hairstyle.
C.Its unique pose. D.Its crown—shaped hat.
31.What can be the best title for the text
A.An ancient kingdom was newly discovered
B.Mysterious Sanxingdui Ruins reveal more relics C.Sichuan Province is the birthplace of a new civilization D.New Sanxingdui pits catch the attention of archaeologists
It is commonly believed that dogs wag (摇摆) their tails to convey that they are happy and friendly, but this isn’t exactly true. Dogs do use their tails to communicate, though a wagging tail doesn’t always mean, “Come pet me!”
Dogs have a kind of language that is based on the position and motion of their tails. When a dog is relaxed, its tail will be in its natural position, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
This natural position differs between breeds (品种). The tails of most dogs, for example, hang down near their hocks (跗关节) or heels. But pugs have tails that curl upward, and greyhounds have tails that rest slightly between their legs.
If a dog is nervous or obedient, it will hold its tail lower than its natural position, and if it is scared, it will hold its tail under its body.
A tail held higher than normal may indicate the dog is aroused by something, while a vertical tail indicates aggression. A tail held
straight out means the dog is curious about something. Tail wagging reflects a dog’s excitement, with more energetic wagging relating to greater excitement.
In 2007, researchers discovered that the way a dog wags its tail also gives clues as to how it is feeling. Specifically, a tail wagging to the right indicates positive emotions, and a tail wagging to the left indicates negative emotions. This phenomenon has to do with the fact that the brain’s left hemisphere (大脑半球) controls the right side of the body, and vice versa. Research on the approach—avoidance behavior of other animals has shown that the left hemisphere is associated with positive—approach feelings, and the right hemisphere is associated with negative—avoidance feelings.
Interestingly, a 2013 study found that dogs understand the tail wagging of other dogs—a right—wagging tail relaxes other dogs, while a left—wagging tail makes them stressed.
32.What does the position of a dog’s tail mainly reveal
A.Its personality. B.Its state of health.
C.Its intellectual level. D.Its emotional state.
33.When should we stay away from a dog
A.When its tail curls upward. B.When its tail is straight up. C.When its tail hangs down near its heels. D.When its tail is lower
than the natural position.
34.What’s the difference between the brain’s left and right hemispheres according to the text
A.They are different in size. B.They have different levels of activity. C.They control different parts of the body. D.They have different developmental processes.
35.What does the text focus on
A.Why dogs wag their tails. B.The structure of a dog’s tail. C.How tail wagging benefits dogs. D.Dogs’ communication with each other.

Here is the good news for those hating summer heat—July is National Ice Cream Month! 36 The order urges citizens to observe the entire month or at least on the third Sunday of July with appropriate ceremonies and activities. This, of course, means eating as much ice cream as possible. Here are some fun ice cream facts. The first record of milk—based ice cream came from China’s Tang dynasty. However, the Arabs are regarded as the people inventing the modern type in the 9th century. By the 10th century, a kind of delicious ice cream using milk, cream, rosewater, dried fruits, and
nuts was extremely popular in Baghdad, Damascus, and Cairo. Europeans discovered the icy treat in the 16th century. 37 The dessert was first mentioned in 1744, when Maryland Governor Thomas Bladen served strawberry ice cream to guests. However, due to the lack of refrigerators, it was not until 1851 that ice cream finally became available to the public.
38 An estimated $6 billion is spent annually on it, and the number is even higher if restaurant sales are included. Though California produces the most ice cream, the biggest fans—on average—live in Washington DC, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin.
Most people think their ice cream choices are a function of their taste preference. 39 Vanilla (香草) ice cream fans are risk—takers who are great at relationships. Strawberry ice cream enthusiasts are devoted. Coffee fans are likely to be serious and perfectionists. 40 A.Chocolate fans must be generous and charming.
B.But it didn’t go to America until the 18th century. C.People all over the world celebrate the special day. D.Everyone, especially children, loves eating ice cream. E.Americans are now one of the world’s largest ice cream consumers.
F.Dr. Alan Hirsch, however, believes it reflects an individual’s personality.
G.The “cool” holiday was made by former US President Ronald Reagan on July 9th, 1984.

“Amy left several emotional calls for you on our answering machine while you were gone,” announced my husband, Jim, as I walked in the door, exhausted after four hours of driving across the state. For the last three days I had accompanied my twelve—year—old granddaughter, Rachel, during her competition at the Florida State Science Fair where she won second place in Junior Chemistry. “Amy was extremely upset and crying when she left her messages,” continued Jim. “She needed to talk to you.”
My mind raced. What could be wrong with this happy fourth grader, who last week flew from her home in Maryland and spent her spring break with us in Florida Just four days ago, I took her to the airport for her return flight. I smiled when the airline employee stared at my cute, blond granddaughter and said, “You are the most beautiful little girl in your cotton hat with the big sunflower in front.”
“That makes six compliments (赞美) about my hat today, Grandma,” said Amy as we headed toward security. My thoughts returned to Jim’s descriptions of Amy’s emotional calls. I couldn’t bear to listen to them.
“Why was she so upset ” I aske d.
“She lost her sunflower hat on the plane and was so miserable that she couldn’t sleep. She had put it on top of her bag of books, under the seat in front of her, and then realized it was missing while she was at the baggage carousel (旋转式行李传送带). She and her dad had rushed back to the plane and the attendants had checked around her seat but the hat was gone,” Jim replied. Hearing Jim’s explanation, my heart sank. I had to find a way to save her from her grief and make her happy again.

32.D [细节理解题。

] 33.B [推理判断题。

根据第四段的while a vertical tail indicates aggression可知,狗的尾巴垂直向上则意味着这只狗具有攻击性,所以这个时候我们最好不要去靠近它。

]
