Once you have shoes, socks, something to listen to and something to clock your time, you’re just about set. 1 Whether you choose a standard watch, a high-tech GPS watch or your iPhone doesn’t matter.1. Choose a shoeDon’t be influenced by brand names. Instead, try on four or five running shoes, jog around the store and let your feet decide. In a sweeping review of the science on running shoes and injuries, researchers found that the most important feature of a running shoe is —comfort. That’s it. 22. Choose a pair of socks3 Blisters from unsuitable socks are painful and could affect you for days. You want a breathable, comfortable sock. Some running socks are made from a special material that draws moisture (湿气) away from your feet.Look for a sock without thick (or any) seams (缝) and decide if you want a no-show sock or one that covers the back of your ankle. 4 T est them out to see how they perform when you run and sweat before buying more pairs.3. Choose a playlistRunning should feel like a reward. If you’re a runner who likes the quiet of running, then pick a quiet path and go run. But many people like a combination of upbeat music or books on tape to accompany them on the run. 5 They often read their own audiobooks and leave you laughing so much you forget the pains of running.A. The hatching of a chick is both seasonally and metaphorically (比喻地) appropriate for a springtime holiday of rebirth. But the link’s origins could be a lot more ordinary.1 . One possible origin: the strict fasting rules of the time, which banned eating any animal product during Lent (the period of 40 days before Easter).2 . So Christians would hard-boil and store their eggs for later, according to Henry Kelly, a professor of medieval (中世纪的) studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. Some of those eggs would be given to the poor, and villagers brought them as Easter gifts to their manorial lords (领主). Eggs could also bebrought to church as a Good Friday offering.3 , at which point the household of Edward I brought 450 eggs to be colored or covered in gold leaf to be distributed, according to The Stations of the Sun: A History of the Ritual Year in Britain by Ronald Hutton.4 , as colored eggs made flashier gifts between commoners. As new ideas about middle-class family life formed in Europe and the U.S. in the late 1800s, religious holidays came to include customs for children. 5 . Soon enough they were colored, hidden and hunted by kids all over the place, including at the White House, which held its first Easter Egg Roll in 1878.A. Easter eggs were a natural fitB. Hens, however, kept laying anywayC. And the tradition wasn’t limited to royalsD. There are Easter celebrations around the worldE. Decorating them began in Britain around 1290F. Prepare a list that contains all the things you shouldn’t waste your time on —useless tasks, unnecessary meetings, worthless phone calls, and so on. 2●Carry a notebook and pen. Thomas Edison did i t. VirginiaWoolf did it. And so did Charles Darwin. They carried a notebook with them everywhere and wrote down ideas that popped into their heads. 3 Trust me: This is a fantastic way to explore ideas and to weave creativity into the fabric of your life.● 4 Become a learning machine. Ask questions. Take smart people to lunch. Read. Read some more. Listen to audiobooks. Take classes. Added benefit: This makes life more interesting. Yet another benefit: Studies have shown that people who make constant learning part of their lives end up living longer.●Guard your calendar. Make sure your time is focused on your one or two top priorities (优先解决的事物). Ask yourself: “Is this how I want to be spending my time right now?”Remember: You are your calendar. 5●Respond to calls and e-mails quickly. Even if your response is, “I’ll get back to you,”try to get back to people within 24 hours. They’ll appreciate the politeness.A. Learn.B. Be quick, but don’t hurry.C. So treat your calendar with respect.D. Try to begin your day the same way.E. Page through the notebook occasionally.F. Then place it next to your “to do” list and stick to it.G. Frankly, the list is so good I think everyone would benefit from it.五Learn How to Have a Learning VacationGoing on a vacation to learn a skill you have long wanted to pick up sounds like a good getaway, but be cautious, said John Spence, the president of a travel company in Calif. “If you don’t pick the right skill for you, or go in with unrealistic expectations, your precious tim e off won’t be enjoyable,” he said. Here, he shares his advice on planning a learning vacation that you won’t regret taking:FOLLOW YOUR PASSION (热情). 1 . They include cooking, photography, art history, farming or a sport such as diving or horseback riding. To get the most out of the trip, choose something you’re passionate about.2 ? With whatever skill you intend to learn, figure out whether you want an immersion (沉浸) or only to occupy a part of your trip. It’s possible to learn cooking basics, for exampl e, by taking a weeklong course at Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland. Another option is to attend several half-day classes at the school and have more free time to explore the destination itself. “3 , so make sure that it’s what you really want,” Mr. Sp ence said.CONSIDER YOUR BUDGET. No matter the skill, you can learn it by taking a vacation in a wide range of price ranges. 4 . If you want to learn scuba diving (水肺式潜泳), for example, heading to the Maldives will cost several thousand dollars per person, while a scuba diving trip to the Florida Keys is a more wallet-friendly choice.DON’T FORGET THE CHILDREN. 5 , provided that they are fun. “Yes, you want your kids to learn, but you don’t want them to be bored by overloading them with too much information,” Mr. Spence said.A. A LITTLE, OR A LOTB. Don’t be influenced by others’ interestsC. WHAT SKILL DO YOU WANT TO LEARND. Learning vacations can be great family trips, tooE. The options for what you can learn on your vacation arelimitlessF. Having a clear idea of your budget will help you home in on the right tripG. Spending your entire break devoted to learning something new can be stressful六Astronauts drink their own pee (尿) —after it’s been cleaned.1 Many experts, though, argue that recycling pee and other waste is an excellent and safe solution when there isn’t enough fresh water to go around.2 All of the water that astronauts use to drink, brush their teeth, or make coffee comes out of one limited container that has to be resupplied from Earth. To help conserve water, the waste from sinks, toilets, and even the pee from lab animals on board flows into a recycling system. First, the water goes through a series of filters (过滤器) to get rid of large particles (微粒) and impurities. Then, chemical reactions remove poisonous chemicals and kill any bacteria or viruses. 3Chris Hadfield, who lived on the space station for five months, says, “Before you feel uncomfortable with the thought of drinking your leftover wash water and your leftover pee, keep in mind that the water that we end up with is purer than most of the water that you drink on a daily basis at home.”Astronauts, however, tend to be more adventurous than the average person. On Earth, cities in very dry parts of the world have attempted to introduce wastewater purification systems. 4 Citizens recoiled (退缩) in disgust. Despite scientific evidence that the water is clean, many people just can’t get over the fact that it once flowed through a toilet. In the 1990s, activists in San Diego and Los Angeles campaigned against “toilet totap”water. 5 In a survey of 2,000 Americans, 26 percent agreed with the statement: “It is impossible for recycled water to be treated to a high enough quality that I would want to use it.”A. And you wouldn’t be alone.B. And the disapproval remained strong.C. What comes out is clean enough to drink.D. On the International Space Station, water is a precious resource.E. Lots of people feel sick at the thought of drinking recycled wastewater.F. Though some of these programs have succeeded, others failed miserably.G. Mine is usually folding the blanket on the sofa, straightening the pillowsand picking up the toys in the living room.● 2 If I can clear off the dining room table, then I’ll clean off that counter top. And so on. And so forth.●Talk on the phone. 3 Talking on the phone makes chores go so much faster and suddenly the bathroom has also been cleaned!●Promise myself a reward. Early hosts, such as Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, Steve Allen, and Garry Moore, combined interviews with short humorous pieces of acting, musical performances, and improvised (即兴创作) audience participation. 2 The audience would be entertained by the anecdotes of the stars or the improvised funny remarks of the host.By the late 1960s, the format became more focused on the interviews themselves. Hosts such as Dick Cavett, David Frost, Mike Douglas, and Tom Snyder all became household names through their personal interview styles. Guests on these programs were encouraged to do more than simply promote an upcoming film or musical album. Cavett and Snyder were especially skillful at the “talking heads (发言者头部特写)”format. 3By the 1980s, the talk show format had once again changed from academic interviews to aggressive arguments, with hosts such as Jerry Springer, Phil Donahue, Maury Povich, and Oprah Winfrey often booking controversial guests. Several of the controversial shows did not last for long. 4Modern talk shows are usually run at night hosted by such names as David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, and Craig Ferguson. They are often a combination of musical performances, audience interaction, and short celebrity (名人) interviews. Celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres or Rachael Ray often host talk shows, since they can be produced quickly. 5A. The refore, they won’t affect the talents’ other work.B. There are a wide variety of talk shows on television.C. Local television stations also produce their own versions.D. They drew their guests into lengthy academic discussions.E. I'm not talking about your job, your daily responsibilities, or even your long-term goals. 1 Perhaps you're a person who doesn't believe you have a purpose and believe that life has no meaning. 2 Not believing that you have a purpose won't prevent you from discovering it, just as a lack of belief in gravity won't prevent you from tripping(绊倒).3 A martial arts (武术) expert asked Bruce to teach him everything Bruce knew about martial arts. Bruce held up two cups, both filled with liquid. “The first cup,”said Bruce, “represents all of your knowledge about martial arts. The second cup represents all of my knowledge about martial arts. If you want to fill your cup with my knowledge, you must first empty your cup of your knowledge.”If you want to discover your true purpose in life, you must first empty your mind of all the false purposes you've been taught (including the idea that you may have no purpose at all).4 While there are many ways to do this, here is one of the simplest that anyone can do. The more open you are to this process, the more you expect itto work. Here's what to do:•Take out a blank sheet of paper or open up a word processor where you can type.•Write at the top, “What is my true purpose in life?”•Write an answer (any answer) that comes into your head. 5 A short phrase is fine.•Repeat the last step until you write the answer that makes you cry. During the dinner, the man sitting next to me told a humorous story and he spoke of a quotation. The storyteller mentioned that the quotation was from the Bible. He was wrong. I knew that. I knew it for sure. 1 And so, to get a feeling of importance and display my superiority, I tried to correct him. He stuck to his guns. What? From Shakespeare? Impossible! Absurd! It was from the Bible. And he knew it.The storyteller was sitting on my right; and Frank Gammond, an old friend of mine, was seated on my left. Mr. Gammond had devoted years to the study of Shakespeare, so we asked him. He listened, kicked me under the table, and then said: “Dale, you are wrong. The gentleman is right. 2 ”On our way home that night, I said to Mr. Gammond: “Frank, you knew that quotation was from Shakespeare.”“Yes, of course,”he replied, “Hamlet, Act Five, Scene Two. 3 Why prove to a man that he is wrong? Is that going to make him like you? Why notlet him save his face? Why argue with him?”4 I not only had made the storyteller uncomfortable, but had put my friend in an embarrassing situation. How much better it would have been had I not started the argument.Nine times out of ten, an argument ends with each side more firmly convinced than ever that he is absolutely right. 5 You can't because if you lose it, you lose it; and if you win it, you lose it.A. You can't win the argument.B. That quotation was from the Bible.C. But we were guests at a festive occasion.D. There couldn't be the slightest doubt about it.E. For example, ifyou give a performance that informs and educates your audience, they're likely to overlook the fact that you were nervous.Record your performance and view it.Once you view your performance, you will have an excellent idea of how you might better impress your audience. This will help you get rid of awkward habits that could put your audience off your message. 3 After all, your performance may be much better than you think.Use visualization (想象).In the last few days before your performance, take time to visualize your performance. 4 Visualize possible questions from your audience. If you see yourself as being successful during your performance, you will start your performance with acalm attitude.Remember that fear doesn't equal failure.5 That's okay. But good news is that there're really only three kinds of decisions you need to make about color in your home: the small ones, the medium ones, and the large ones.38. They're the little spots of color like throw pillows, mirrors and baskets that most of us use to add visual interest to our rooms. Less tiring than painting your walls and less expensive than buying a colorful sofa, small color choices bring with them the significant benefit of being easily changeable.Medium color choices are generally furniture pieces such as sofas, dinner tables or bookshelves.39. They require a bigger commitment than smaller ones, and they have a more powerful effect on the feeling of a space. The large color decisions in your rooms concern the walls, ceilings, and floors. Whether you're looking at wallpaper or paint, the time, effort and relative expense put into it are significant.40.A.While all of them are usefulB.Whatever you're looking forC.If you're experimenting with a colorD.Small color choices are the ones we're most familiar withE.It's not really a good idea to use too many small color piecesF.So it pays to be sure, because you want to get it right the first timeG.Color choices in this range are a step up from the small ones in two major ways[语篇解读]颜色是房间设计的基本要素之一。

2019届英语高考七选五专项训练题(一) Online Friends and LoveIn so many ways, cyberspace mirrors the real world. 15 Others buy and sell products. Still others look for friendship, or even love. Unlike the real world, however, your knowledge about a person is limited to words on a computer screen. Identity (身份) and appearance mean very little in cyberspace. 16 So even the shyest person can become a chat-room star. Usually, this “faceless” communication doesn’t create problems. Identity doesn’t really matter when you’re in a chat room discussing politics or hobbies and it makes the Internet a great place for exciting conversation. Where else can so many people come together to cha about their interests?17 They’re looking for serious love relationships. Is cyberspace a good place to find love? That answer depends on whom you ask. Some of these relationships actually succeed. Others fail miserably.Supporter of online relationships claim that the Internet allows couples to get to know each other. Personal appearance doesn’t get in the way. But critics of online relationships argue that no one can truly know another person in cyberspace. Why? 18 Internet users can carefully make their words fit whatever image they want to give. In a sense, they’re not really themselves. All of this may be fine if the relationship stays in cyberspace. 19 With so many unknowns, it’s easy to let one’s imagination “fill in the blanks”. This leads to disappointment whencouples meet in person. So, before looking for love in cyberspace, remember the advice of Internet pioneer Clifford Stoll: “Life in the real world is far richer than anything you’ll find on a computer screen.”A.When we talk with others on the line, we can express ourselves freely.B.But some Internet users want more than just someone to chat with.C.People ask for information, play games and share hobby tips.D.Generally speaking, online friends and love are worth seeking for.E.Because the Internet gives users a lot of control over how others viewthem.F.Rather, a person’s thoughts or at least the thoughts they type—arewhat really count.G.But not knowing a person is a big problem in a love relationship.(二)Weight loss is a hard topic, Lots of people aren’t satisfied with their present weight, but most people aren’t sure how to change it. You may want to look like the models or actors in magazines or on TV, but those goals might not be healthy or realistic(现实的) for you. 16So what should you do about your weight control?17 The best way to find out if you are at a healthy weight or if you need to lose or gain weight is to talk to a doctor or dietitian(营养学家).18 If it turns out that you can benefit from weight loss then you can follow a few of the simple suggestions listed below to get started.19 People who lose weight quickly by crash dieting or other extreme measures usually gain back all of the pounds they lost, because they haven’t permanently (永久地) changed their habits. Therefore, the best weight management ways are those that you can maintain for a lifetime. Small changes are a lot easier to stick with (坚持做) than large ones. Try reducing the size of what you eat. 20 Once you have that done, start gradually introducing healthier foods and exercise into your life. It’s a good idea to maintain a healthy weight because it’s just that: healthy.A.Try giving up regular soda for a week.B.Try to pay attention as you eat and stop when you’re full.C.Weight management is about long-term success.D.Besides, no magical diet will make you look like someone else.E.Being healthy is really about being at a weight that is right for you.F.Changing from whole to nonfat or low-fat milk is also a good idea.G.They will compare your weight with healthy standards and help youset goals.(三)Are you truly happy? It is easy to think negatively when you are surrounded by people who think that way. 20* When something goes wrong, try to figure out a solution instead of being absorbed in self pity. Truly happy people don’t allow setbacks(挫折) to affect their mood because they know that with a little thought they can turn the circumstances(状况) back to their favor.* 21 These few minutes will give you the opportunity to focus on the positive things in your life and will lead you to continuous happiness.* 22 Whether you treat yourself to lunch, take a long, relaxing bath or simply spend a few extra minutes on your appearance, you will be subconsciously(下意识地) putting yourself in a better mood.* Finding the humor in situations can also lead to happiness. They were playing for the first time a new symphony(交响乐) he had composed(创作). At the end he turned to face the people at the concert. They were clapping widely. 17The musician was Beethoven, one of the greatest composers in the world. Deaf people have a hard time. 18Even as a child Beethoven did not have a happy life. His father was a singer. But he was lazy and drank a great deal. When the boy was only four, his father decided to make a musician of him. 19 Whenever he did not put his heart into his practice, his father would be hard on him.It is a wonder that the boy did not hate music. 20 When he was 17, hewon high praise from Mozart, a great Austrian composer. A few years later Beethoven went to Vienna to study under Haydn, another great Austrian composer. Soon he was writing a great deal of music himself. But after one illness, he suddenly found himself deaf. At that time he was only 31. What a blow it was to him!But this did not stop Beethoven. There are all sorts of tricksat play each time we reach out for that particular brand of product on the shelf.18 Health foods are packaged in greens, yellows or browns because we think of these healthy colors. Ice cream packers are often blue and expensive goods, like chocolates, are gold or silver.19 Recently, some kind of pain killer was brought out, but researchers found it didn’t sell well, because the color made the product look weak and ineffective. Eventually, it came on the market in a dark blue and white package—because we think of blue as safe, and white as calm.20 But quite often a bottle doesn’t contain as much as it appears to.It is believed that the better-known companies spend, on average, 70 percent of the total cost of the product itself on packaging! The most successful producers know the truth: 21 The founder of Pears soup, who for 25 years has used pretty little girls to promote their goods, came to the conclusion: “22 ”A. To explore deep water, man faces even more dangers and problems.A diver who wants to stay under water for more than a few minutes must breathe air or a special mixture of gases. 19 He can carry a tank of air on his back and breathe through a nose and a mouthpiece. Water weighs 800 times as much as air. Tons of water pushes against a diver deep in the sea. 20When a diver is under great pressure, his blood takes in some of the gases he breathes.
5. 注意一些连词如一些表示转折的连词,but,However,yet,though,nevertheless 等,另外还有一些表示并列关系的连词如and,also,as well as,neither nor,either or,not only...but also,on the one hand....on the other hand等。
因为这些连词可以表现句子与句子之间的关系,通过不同的连词我们可以推知句子与句子之间不同的关系。
