We ,in our human family, know him through dependence in childhood, through possession in youth, through sorrow and loss in their seasons. In childhood we are happy to receive it;it is the first opening of love.In youth we take and give, dedicate and possess—rapture and anguish are mingled, until parenthood brings a dedication that,to be happy, must ask for no return. All these are new horizons of content, which the lust of holding, the enemy of love, slowly contaminates.loss, sorrow and separation come, sickness and death; possession, that tormented us, is nothing in our hands;it vanishes.Love’s elusive enchantment, his ubiquitous presence, again become apparent;and in age we may reach a haven that asking for nothing knows how to enjoy.例:Scientists believe that there must be hundreds of heavenly bodies in the universe where human beings or something like human beings may exist.科学家们相信,人类或类似人的生物能够生存的天体,在宇宙中可能有几百个。

TranslationUnit 16 Translate the paragraph into Chinese.According to the National Center for Education Statistics, about 80 percent of students in the United States end up changing their major at least once. Some students start college with a major their parents or relatives picked for them. In most cases, these students struggle to make a decision, because they don’t know how to confront their loved ones about a change in their intended career. Some students decide to change majors because they are struggling in basic courses for their intended major, while some others have come to so detest their major that they find it necessary to switch to another that they really love. Experts believe that there is nothing wrong with realizing that your major do esn’t suit your skills and talents. In fact, the ability to make such a realization is a sign of maturity. The trick is to find a major that does suit you better. Before making the switch, you need to meet with an academic advisor, research your choice by talking to professors or professionals, and ask yourself serious questions about whether it is the right choice for you.美国国家教育统计中心的数据表明,大约80%的美国大学生至少要换一次专业。

翻译练习学习将中文句子翻译成英文Translation Practice: Translating Chinese Sentences into EnglishIn today's globalized world, the ability to translate Chinese sentences into English has become increasingly important. Whether it be for academic, professional, or personal purposes, mastering this skill can open up a world of opportunities. In this article, we will explore some strategies and tips for effective translation practice.1. Understanding the ContextBefore diving into the translation process, it is crucial to fully comprehend the context of the Chinese sentences. Context includes both the specific content and the broader cultural nuances. Consider the purpose of the original Chinese text and the intended audience. This step ensures that the translated English sentences accurately convey the original meaning.2. Maintaining the EssenceWhile translating, it is essential to preserve the essence of the Chinese sentences. This means capturing the underlying meaning, tone, and style of the original text. Avoid translating merely word-for-word, as it may lead to awkward and unnatural English sentences. Instead, focus on conveying the intended message fluently in English.3. Adapting Grammar and Sentence StructureChinese and English sentence structures often differ. In Chinese, the subject often comes before the verb, while in English, the subject typically precedes the verb. Additionally, sentence structures in Chinese can be moreflexible, while English follows a more strict pattern. Adapting the grammar and sentence structure accordingly is crucial for producing clear and understandable English translations.4. Choosing Appropriate VocabularySelecting the appropriate vocabulary is crucial for effective translation. Idiomatic expressions and colloquialisms in Chinese may not have a direct equivalent in English. It is important to find suitable English words and phrases that convey the intended meaning. Utilize dictionaries, online resources, and language reference materials to expand your vocabulary for translation purposes.5. Paying Attention to Cultural NuancesCulture plays a significant role in language, and translation should always consider cultural nuances. What may be appropriate in Chinese might not be the same in English-speaking cultures. It is essential to be aware of subtleties and understand cultural connotations to ensure accurate and culturally sensitive translations.6. Iterative Process and ProofreadingTranslation is an iterative process. After completing an initial translation, it is crucial to proofread and refine it. Review the translated sentences for accuracy, coherence, and stylistic consistency. Pay attention to spelling, grammar, and punctuation to ensure the final translation is error-free.7. Practice, Practice, PracticeTranslation, like any skill, requires practice to improve. Engage in regular translation exercises using various types of Chinese texts, such as news articles, literature, or even social media posts. Practice different genres and themes to enhance your versatility in translating Chinese sentences into English.ConclusionDeveloping proficiency in translating Chinese sentences into English is a valuable skill in today's interconnected world. By understanding context, maintaining the essence, adapting grammar and vocabulary, considering cultural nuances, and engaging in regular practice, one can become an adept translator. Embrace the challenges and opportunities that translation presents, as it allows for effective cross-cultural communication and understanding.。

Translation Exercise Two
Exercise TwoTranslate the following into Chinese.Passage 1What would it take to persuade you to exercise? A desire to lose weight or improve your figure? To keep heart disease, cancer or diabetes at bay? To lower your blood pressure or cholesterol? To protect your bones? To live to a healthy old age?You would think any of those reasons would be sufficient to get Americans exercising, but scores of studies have shown otherwise. It seems that public health experts, doctors and exercise devotees in the media—like me—have been using ineffective tactics to entice sedentary people to become, and remain, physically active. For decades, people have been bombarded with messages that regular exercise is necessary to lose weight, prevent serious disease and foster healthy aging. And yes, most people say they value these goals. Yet a vast majority of Americans—two-thirds of whom are overweight or obese—have thus far failed to swallow the ―exercise pill‖.Now research by psychologists strongly suggests it‘s time to stop thinking of future health, weight loss and body image as motivators for exercise. Instead, these experts recommend a strategy marketers use to sell products: portray physical activity as a way to enhance current well-being and happiness. ―We need to make exercise relevant to people‘sdaily lives,‖ Michelle L. Segar, a research investigator at the Institute for Research on Women and Gender at the University of Michigan, said in a interview.Dr. Segar is among the experts who believe that people will not commit to exercise if they see its benefits as distant or theoretical. ―It has to be portrayed as a compelling behavior that can benefit us today,‖ she said. ―People who say they exercise for its benefits to quality of life exercise more over the course of a year than those who say they value exercise for its health benefits.‖Her idea for public service advertisement to promote exercise for working women with families: A woman is shown walking around the block after dinner with her children and says, ―This is great. I can fit in fitness, spend quality time with my kids, and at the same time teach them how important exercise is.‖Based on studies of what motivates people to adopt and sustain physical activity, Dr. Segar is urging that experts stop framing moderate exercise as a medical prescription that requires 150 minutes of aerobic effort each week. Instead, public health officials must begin to address ―the emotional hooks that make it essential for people to fit it into their hectic lives.‖―Immediate rewards are more motivating than distant ones,‖she added. ―Feeling happy and less stressed is more motivating than not getting heart disease or cancer, maybe, someday in the future.‖In a study of 252 office workers, David K. Ingledew and David Markland, psychologists at the University of Wales, found that while many begin to exercise as way to lose weight and improve their appearance, these motivations did not keep them exercising in the long term. ―The well-being and enjoyment benefits of exercise should be emphasized,‖ the researchers concluded.Dr. Segar put it this way: ―physical activity is an elixir of life, but we are not teaching people that. We are telling them it‘s a pill to take or a punishment for bad numbers on the scale. Sustaining physical activity is a motivational and emotional issue, not a medical one.‖Other studies have shown that what gets people off their duffs and keeps them moving depends on age, gender, life circumstances and even ethnicity. For those of college age, for example, physical attractiveness typically heads the list of reasons to begin exercising, although what keeps them going seems to be the stress relief that a regular exercise program provides. The elderly, on the other hand, may get started because of health concerns. But often what keeps them exercising are the friendships, sense of community and camaraderie that may otherwise be missing from their lives—easily seen among the gray-haired women who faithfully attend water exercise classes at my local YMCA.In a recent study of 1,690 over-weight or obese middle-aged men andwomen, Dr Segar found that enhancing daily well-being was most influential factor for the women in the study. Men indicated they were motivated by more distant health benefits, although Dr. Segar suspects this may be because men feel less comfortable discussing their mental health needs. ―What sustains us, we sustain,‖ Dr. Segar said. ―We need to promote what marketers call ‗customer loyalty.‘ We need to help people stay engaged with movement by teaching them how it can help sustain them in their lives.‖Passage 2Can you be a Morning Person?Like most creatures on earth, humans come equipped with a circadian clock, a roughly 24-hour internal timer that keeps our sleep patterns in sync with our planet. At least until genetics, age and our personal habits get in the way. Even though the average adult needs eight hours of sleep per night, there are ―short sleepers,‖ who need far less, and morning people, who, research shows, often come from families of other morning people. Then there‘s the rest of us, who rely on alarm clocks. For those who fantasize about greeting the dawn, there is hope. Sleep experts say that with a little discipline (well, actually, a lot ofdiscipline), most people can reset their circadian clocks. But it‘s not as simple as forcing yourself to go to bed earlier (you can‘t make a wide-awake brain sleep). It requires inducing a sort of jet lag without leaving your time zone. And sticking it out until your body clock resets itself. And then not resetting it again. To start, move up your wake-up time by 20 minutes a day. If you regularly rise at 8 a.m., but really want to get moving at 6 a.m., set the alarm for 7:40 on Monday. The next day, set it for 7:20 and so on. Then, after you wake up, don‘t linger in bed. Hit yourself with a light. In theory, you‘ll gradually get sleepy about 20 minutes earlier each night, and you can facilitate the transition by avoiding extra light exposure from computers or televisions as you near bedtime. (The light from a computer screen or an iPad has roughly the same effect as the sun.) ―Light has a very privileged relationship with our brain,‖says Dr. Jeffrey M. Ellenbogen, chief of sleep medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and assistant professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School. While most sensory information is ―processed‖by the thalamus before being sent on its way, Ellenbogen says, light goes directly to the circadian system. But recalibrating your inner clock requires more commitment –in the form of unwatched reruns or lost time with a spouse – than many people care to give. For some, it‘s almost impossible. Veryearly risers and longtime night owls have a hard time ever changing, says David F. Dinges, chief of sleep and chronobiology at the University of Pennsylvania‘s Perelman School of Medicine. Night-shift workers also struggle, he says, because they don‘t get the environmental and social cues that help adjust the circadian clock. The most important of these cues, called zeitgebers (German for ―time givers‖) is sunlight. But a zeitgebers could also be a scrambled-egg breakfast or children coming home from school in the afternoon.Besides computer screens, the biggest saboteur for an aspiring morning person is the weekend. Staying up later on Friday or sleeping in on Saturday sends the brain an entirely new set of scheduling priorities. By Monday, a 6 a.m. alarm will feel like 4 a.m.. ―If the old phase was entrained for a long time,‖ Dinges says, ―the biology has a kind of memory of this.‖ In other words, he says, ―it takes self-discipline.‖。
翻译实训报告
翻译实训报告Translation Training Report (700 words)IntroductionIn today's globalized world, the demand for professional translators is increasing rapidly. As a result, translation training programs have become an important component in language education. At the translation training workshop, I had the opportunity to learn about the theories and practice of translation, which helped improve my translation skills.Training ContentThe training program covered various aspects of translation, including translation techniques, translation principles, and translation ethics. We were also introduced to different types of translation, such as literary translation, legal translation, and technical translation. Through lectures, group discussions, and practical exercises, we gained a comprehensive understanding of the translation process and the challenges involved.Translation TechniquesOne of the main focuses of the training was learning various translation techniques. We learned about literal translation, free translation, and faithful translation. Literal translation aims to faithfully represent the source text word-for-word, while free translation prioritizes conveying the meaning and intent of the source text. Faithful translation emphasizes capturing the style and tone of the source text.Translation PrinciplesIn addition to techniques, we also learned about translation principles. Accuracy and coherence, for example, were emphasized as essential principles in translation. Accuracy ensures that the translated text reflects the precise meaning of the source text, while coherence ensures that the translated text flows naturally and is easy to understand. Another important principle is cultural adaptation, where translators must consider the cultural nuances and context of the target language.Translation EthicsEthics in translation were also discussed during the training. Translators have a responsibility to accurately and faithfully translate the source text without injecting their personal biases. They should also respect copyright laws and intellectual property rights. Additionally, translators must adhere to professional standards, such as confidentiality and objectivity.Practical ExercisesTo apply what we learned, we were given practical exercises where we had to translate texts from different fields. These exercises allowed us to practice our translation skills and gain feedback from instructors and peers. The hands-on experience helped improve our translation accuracy, coherence, and speed. By working on real translation projects, we were also able to understand the challenges and difficulties faced by professional translators.ConclusionThe translation training program was a valuable experience that enhanced my translation skills. I gained knowledge of varioustranslation techniques, principles, and ethics. Through practical exercises, I had the opportunity to apply what I learned and receive feedback from experts. This training has equipped me with the necessary skills to pursue a career in translation. I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to continuing my journey in the field of translation.。
