纸是用以书写、印刷、绘画或包装等的片状纤维制品。

中华人民共和国是世界上最早发明纸的国家。
根据考古发现,西汉时期(公元前206年至公元前8年),我国已经有了麻质纤维纸。

关于蔡伦发明造纸见之古籍记载,《后汉书·蔡伦传》中说:“自古书契,多编以竹筒;其用缣者,谓之为纸。

”后世遂尊他为我国造纸术的发明人。
