Grandma celebrated her fifty-third birthday just weeks before grandpa died of cancer in 1965. Although his passing was very difficult for her, I think their shared struggle to make his life longer taught grandma that good health was not to be taken for granted, and she made up her mind to live the rest of her own life as fully and as lo ng as she could. One day, when she announced to attend lessons at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Portland, Oregon, where she lived, we rolled our eyes in embarrassment and helplessly wished she would just stay home and bake cookies as normal grandmothers did. Many years filled with c ountless dance lessons passed before we learned to appreciate the wonder of having a dancing grandma.
I suppose grandma's primary motivation for wanting to learn to dance was social. She had been a shy girl, always very tall and heavy, and had married into grandpa's quiet lifestyle before developing any elegance or confidence in her personal appearance. Dancing, on the other hand, filled her life with flash lights, wonderful parties, beautiful dresses, handsome young dance instructors, and the challenge of learning. Although the weekly dance lessons did not change her ample, two-hundred-pound figure, grandma surprised everyone with energetic performances on the dance floor, which soon gave her as much elegance and confidence as any Miss American competitor.
Having taken weekly dance lessons for years, my grandma learned various dances easily and was soon participating in dancing matches all over the Northwest. When I was fourteen,
grandma proudly invited me to watch her compete in one of these matches to be held in the grand ballroom of the Red Lion Inn. My attitude was still unenthusiastic at that point, but to make her happy, my mother and I attended the match. As if to prove me wrong, grandma made a wonderful showing in every event she ent ered. I thought she was truly the queen of the ball during the dance, and my thoughts were shared by the judges a short time later when she was awarded a gold cup for her outstanding performance.
24. What did grandma learn from grandpa's death?
A. Good health was not there for everyone.
B. She should take dance lessons.
C. She had to struggle to live a better life.
D. She should wear beautiful dresses.
25. Normal grandmas usually ________ in the author's point of view?
A. took dance lessons
B. did some exercises at home
C. took care of grandchildren at home
D. did some housework at home
26. The author felt ______ when he was invited to watch grandma's match.
A. happy
B. proud
C. excited
D. uninterested
27. The text is mainly about _______.
A. my grandma's confidence
B. my dancing grandma
C. my grandma's dancing
D. my grandma's gold cup

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Dreaming about whether you would want to read minds, see through walls , or have superhuman strength may sound silly, but it actually gets to the heart of what really matters in your life.
Every day in our work, we are inspired by the people we meet doing extraordinary things to improve the world.
They have a different kind of superpower that all of us possess: the power to make a difference in the lives of others.
We’re not saying that everyone needs to contribute their lives to the poor. Y our lives are busy enough doing homework, playing sports, making friends, seeking after your dreams. But we do think that you can live a more powerful life when you devote some of your time and energy to something much larger than yourself. Find an issue you are interested in
and learn more. Volunteer or, if you can, contribute a little money to a cause. Whatever you do, don’t be a bystander. Get involved. You may have the opportunity to make your biggest difference when you’re older. But why not start now?
Our own experience working together on health, development, and energy the last twenty years has been one of the most rewarding parts of our lives. It has changed who we are and continues to fuel our optimism about how much the lives of the poorest people will improve in the years ahead.

31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A warm drink of milk before bed has long been the best choice for those wanting a good night’s sleep. But now a study has found it really does help people nod off—if it is milked from a cow at night.
Researchers have discovered that “night milk” contains more melatonin(褪黑激素),
which has been proven to help people feel sleepy and reduce anxiety.
The study, by researchers from Seoul, South Korea, involved mice being fed with dried milk powder made from cows milked both during the day and at night.
Those given night milk, which contained 10 times the amount of melatonin, were less active and less anxious than those fed with the milk collected during daytime, according to the study published in The Journal of Medicinal Food.
Night milk quickened the start of sleep and caused the mice to sleep longer.
While the effect of cows milk harvested at different time has not been tested on humans up to now, taking melatonin drugs has been suggested to those who are struggling to fall asleep at night.
Previous studies have also indicated that milk can be excellent for helping sleep because of the calcium content, which helps people to relax.
Milk is also sugar-free and additive-free with nutritionists recommending skimmed milk as the best choice before bed as it is the least fattening. The more fat you take in before bedtime, the greater burden you will put on your body at night.
32. According to the text, the mice fed with daytime milk_______.
A. started sleep more easily
B. were more anxious
C. were less active
D. woke up later
33. Which of the following is true of melatonin according to the text?
A. It’s been tested on mice for ten years
B. It can make people more energetic
C. It exists in milk in great amount
D. It’s used in sleeping drugs
34. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Night Milk and Sleep
B. Fat, Sugar and Health
C. An Experiment on Mice
D. Milk Drinking and Health
35. How does the author support the theme of the text?
A. By giving examples.
B. By stating arguments.
C. By explaining s tatistical data.
D. By providing research results.

书面表达(满分25分)
Nowadays, middle school students tend to be very free with their pocket money, which has become a difficult problem to solve for schools.
Generally, parents give their children some money every month as their living expenses. However, some students spend less on regular meals and everyday goods to save their pocket money with which they buy snacks, MP4 players, fashionable clothes and so on. What's worse, they spend it on playing computer games or surfing the Internet. Therefore, they don't know how hard it is to earn money. In addition, they are so young that they may learn to worship those with lots of pocket money blindly and fall into the bad habit.
In order to help the students, we should call on parents monitoring the pocket money. The school should take proper measures to educate the students and make them build up the good value of consuming.。
