There, they often met a homeless man named Matt Faris, who would frequently shout on the street corner, sometimes disturbing their sleep. Initially, Peterson had no interaction with Faris, but everything changed after reading the book Love Does, which stressed the power of love in action. Inspired by the book, Peterson decided to introduce himself to Faris. In their first conversation, Peterson learned that Faris had moved to Southern California from Kentucky in pursuit of a music career but had fallen on hard times, living on the streets for over a decade. Despite Faris’s rough appearance, Peterson saw beauty in him and felt forced to paint his portrait, even though he hadn’t picked up a paintbrush in eight years. Faris agreed, marking the start of a transformative project. So Peterson went to establish Faces of Santa Ana, a nonprofit organization dedicated to painting portraits of unhoused individuals in the community. He captures each subject’s personality through colors and then sells the portraits, splitting the earnings with the subject. Half of the funds are placed in a “love account”, which helps them to address their personal needs. However, Peterson learned the importance of asking people directly how they wanted to use the money rather than assuming what they need most. For example, Faris used the funds from his portrait to record an album, while another subject, Kimberly Sondoval, used the money to help pay her daughter’s rent.Over the years, Peterson’s project expanded, leading him to found Faces of Mankind, where artists nationwide paint portraits of the homeless. To date, Peterson has personally painted 41 portraits. His work not only provides financial assistance but also fosters understanding and connection between the buyers and the subjects, with many buyers developing friendships with the individuals they initially overlooked. Peterson hopes his work will continue to change how people perceive the homeless.4.What inspired Brian Peterson to approach Matt Faris?A.He saw Faris had artistic talent.B.He read a book about love in action.C.He wanted to complain about Faris’s shouting.D.He intended to found a nonprofitorganization.5.How does Brian Peterson deal with the money he earns from selling the portraits?A.He donates it to charities.B.He uses it to expand his project.C.He sponsors the homeless to buy art supplies.D.He keeps half and gives the other half to his subjects.6.What is true about Peterson in Paragraph 3?A.He believes in giving without accepting.B.He prefers to decide how the money should be spent.C.He helps people based on their personal needs.D.He funds them to develop art-related projects.7.What would be the best title for this passage?A.Painting for Homeless B.Art Can Cure HomelessnessC.The Story of Matt Faris D.Selling Portraits for CharityScientists from the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science (HIPS) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences have designed a wristwatch that can measure essential chemicals in body sweat. Theirfindings were published in the journal ACS Nano.Sweat contains electrolytes (电解质), primarily potassium, sodium and calcium. The balance of these essential minerals is crucial for supporting muscle function, nerve health and regular heartbeat. The wristwatch collects sweat from the skin and analyzes it in real time using a sensor chip with sensitive membrane. When sweat enters the device, it will come into contact with the membrane that contains three tubes capable of measuring sodium, potassium and calcium levels respectively.Although they are not the first to invent sweat sensors, the Chinese researchers emphasized the wrist watch’s solid interface for long-term reliability. “It surpasses the stability of many other sensors by consistently monitoring human sweat for over six months,” said the lead researcher Huang Xingjiu.Since athletes use electrolyte drinks to counteract (抵制) the loss of energy and refill it, researchers in the study measured the sweat composition of these chemicals in athletes running long distances. The accuracy reached about 95 percent when compared to the standard detection method.“When there are electrolyte abnormalities, the device will remind users to supplement (补充) them quickly. The aim of developing this device is to provide warnings for electrolyte loss and reduce exercise-related injury risks.”For ordinary people, the traditional electrolyte test requires samples of body fluids taken in hospitals. The new wristwatch has the potential to serve as an alternative to needles for measuring electrolytes. The next goal of the research team is to design various sensitive membrane materials for monitoring more information. The researchers noted that compared to popular fitness watches on the market, the device they designed is larger and heavier, making it less comfortable to wear. However, they expect to develop wearable sweat sensors suitable for market applications in the next five years. The team of researchers also aims to adapt the device for environmental monitoring.8.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?A.The working principle of the device.B.The composition of sweat.C.The function of a particular sensor.D.The balance of the minerals.9.Which of the following is the advantage of the wristwatch?A.accurate and popular.B.large and wearable.C.convenient and comfortable.D.reliable and stable.10.What does the author imply in the last paragraph?A.The wristwatch has no equal now.B.The product hasn’t hit the market yet.C.The researchers are content with the product.D.The device will be definitely put into extensive use.11.What is the purpose of the passage?A.To provide warnings for readers to reduce risks.B.To introduce a new product on monitoring health.C.To inform the readers of the importance of eletrolytes.D.To analyze the relationship between sweat and health.Victories are temporary in China’s fast-changing economy. Earlier this month Colin Huang, the founder of Pinduoduo, became China’s richest man. The company, founded in 2015, today is China’s third-largest e-commerce firm by sales, behind only JD.com and Alibaba.Mr Huang’s time atop China’s rich list was, however, brief. On August 26th Pinduoduo’s share price decreased by nearly 30% after it reported sales for the quarter from April to June fell short of the market’s high expectations and gave warning that a long-run decline in profitability was “unavoidable”.Pinduoduo’s misfortunes are set against a backdrop of weakening consumer spending in China. In June sales from the “618” shopping festival fell for the first time, despite a number of platforms extending their sales periods this year. A fierce price war is adding to the trouble. Visit any Chinese e-commerce site and you will be impressed by signs advertising huge discounts and promising the cheapest deals online. Competition has grown more intense because of attacks into e-commerce by short-video apps such as Douyin and Xiaohongshu. Some merchants are piling yet more pressure on the industry. Some Chinese e-commerce companies juice their sales by fining merchants for late deliveries or product mismatches. Last month hundreds of suppliers surrounded the offices of Temu, Pinduoduo’s foreign branch, in the southern city of Guangzhou to protest against such punishment.Pinduoduo may be hoping that international expansion will rescue it from deteriorating conditions at home. That will not be straightforward. Although the number of people using Temu, which launched in America in 2022, has rocketed, owing in no small part to the vast amounts it has spent on advertising, turning that into profit has proved trickier. What is more, America’s e-commerce Amazon is fighting back against the Chinese upstart. During its Prime Day sale in July it offered discounts of up to 70% on some products. It is also reportedly planning to launch a discount section on its site which will feature cheap items. 12.Why did Pinduoduo’s share price decrease sharply?A.China is experiencing a major economic boom.B.Colin Huang failed to run the company well.C.Sales for the second quarter didn’t meet the expectations.D.Consumers were unwilling to spend money on the platform.13.What difficulty is Pinduoduo faced with?A.The rapid rise of JD.com and Alibaba.B.The pressure from consumers and suppliers.C.The invasion of many overseas e-commerce giants.D.The intense price competition and weak purchasing power.14.What does the underlined word “deteriorating” in paragraph 4 probably mean?A.Declining.B.Alarming.C.Increasing.D.Changing. 15.How does the author find Pinduoduo’s expansion of international market?A.Hopeful.B.Cautious.C.Unclear.D.Favourable.People are constantly bombarded (轰炸) with unrealistic and potentially harmful images of “ideal” body types. 16 It’s also important to learn what your body can physically do and become comfortable. In order to accept your body, it’s important to get in touch with both of these aspects of your body on their own terms.17 This means not trying to change who you are or focus on qualities you don’t like. Learn to enjoy your body —— how you move, feel, and get around. Let go of how you used to look, especially if your body has undergone changes from injuries, or medical conditions. Be kind to your body as it is right now.Replace negative thoughts with positive ones. As soon as you notice yourself starting to have a negative thought, replace it with something positive about yourself. Give yourself time to get into the habit of thinking positively. Try starting each day by thinking a few positive thoughts.18Compare yourself only to yourself. 19 There’s no point in comparing yourself to others, regardless of whether the person is a celebrity or classmate sitting next to you. Instead, compare yourself in terms of how you’ ve progressed over time, now that you’ve created your own realistic goals. For example, you might think to yourself that you’ve improved your appearance compared to a few years ago.Know when to seek help. Understand that nearly everyone struggles to maintain positive body image all the time and it’s normal to have ups and downs. 20 There are various signs that your body issues are severe and require professional help.A.Accept your body as it is.B.Identify what you like about your body and appearance.C.Negative thoughts do nothing to improve your self-image.D.The world would be a pretty boring place if we all looked the same.E.But you should also honestly consider if you need to speak with a counselor, or specialist. F.This can make it difficult to accept, love, and feel confident in your own body, which is critical. G.Remind yourself of these thoughts throughout the day when you start feeling critical of yourself.二、完形填空Ever since I was little, the doctors told my parents that someday I would need hearing aids. The newly hot teleplay <婚姻 保卫战>maybe can give us some suggestions. The four protagonists play the four different roles which can make the connection to the reality.
• Redistributing roles and responsibilities in a family is not as simple as saying, “you take out the garbage, I’ll sweep the floor.” It often gets down to people’s core beliefs about who they are and what they need to be doing to be a real grown-up man or woman. So the first thing is to understand the meaning of the family, and than consider other things. In my humble opinon, the family is consist by two people who love each other, and willing to using their full energy to build their family after their marriage.
• If two couples are truly in love, Just forget the digital number in the income list.

UNIT1To invite eminent persons to help make advertisements should be regarded as one of the best advertising strategies and could, of course, produce a spectacular(powerful) VIP effect, provided that those celebrities are perfectly willing to accept the invitation and, more importantly, the products to be advertised are genuine and of fair prices. Sometimes, while a commodity is of inferior quality, the advertisement is full of words lavishing praise on it, if a celebrity shows up as an image agent for such a product, the advertisement could, if any, be temporarily successful before it turns the brand of the product in question notorious and, more disastrously, ruins the reputation of the eminent person thereafter. So, the famous are well advised to think more than twice before they agree to appear on the commercial.UNIT3People who are energetic, happy, and relaxed are less likely to catch a cold than those who are depressed, nervous, or angry. When the brain is “happy”, it sends messages to our organs that help keep the body healthy and sound. Your chance of developing the common cold, pneumonia, or even cancer may very well be decreased by keeping your brain in a healthy state. In addition, happy and relaxed people are prone to better health practices than their negative and stressed counterparts. They are more likely to get plenty of sleep and to engaged in regular exercise, and have been shown to have lower levels of certain stress hormones.UNIT4当人们到海外旅游时,如果留心观察外国人如何处理空间关系,就会发现许多令人惊讶的不同之处;而这些不同之处总让我们反应强烈。
U校园新视野大学英语4读写教程答案(Unit 6 Gender equality)
U校园新视野大学英语4读写教程答案Unit 6 Gender equalitySection A6-2 Text A: The weight men carryPre-reading activitiesPre-reading activities-11) Their place is in the home. (OR: A woman's place is in the home.)2) The importance of equality in the home.3) The pattern of sharing in tasks and decisions.4) They will accept gender equality more easily and be better prepared for a world characterized by cooperation between the two genders.Pre-reading activities-21) Yes, I agree with this view. Women are different from men physiologically, so I do think to be a full-time housewife is a proper and respectable "job"for women. Childcare and housework are important for a family and for the whole society. With the wife staying at home to take care of the household, the husband can be more devoted to his work and support the family financially. No, I disagree with this view. I think that women and men should share responsibilities in the home and that women should have the same right to work as men. Men and women today have equal opportunities of education, so they are capable of doing the same work. This has been proved by the fact that there are a large number of successful female scientists, teachers, engineers and managers in the modern world. Although there are indeed certain jobs more suitable for one sex than for the other, I would say there is no major difference in most fields.2) The distribution of gender roles in my family is part traditional and part modern. It is traditional in the sense that my mom does most of the housework, such as cooking and laundry. It is meanwhile modern since both my parents have their own career. I feelmy parents have equal rights and responsibilities at home. My father earns a higher salary than my mother does, and hence he takes more financial responsibilities. My mother, however, contributes more time to housework although she earns less money. In addition, sometimes my father helps out with the housework too if my mother is too busy.Reading comprehensionReading comprehension-11) He saw men do hard physical work such as farming, mining, welding and house repair.2) The fact that the life of men was wretched and dangerous due to various kinds of injuries.3) Because the men he saw on television were rich and powerful, and their lives were totally different from those of the lower class men he knew about.4) The author was puzzled at women's claim that men enjoy greater joys and more privileges. This wasbecause he knew from his own experiences that men did much harder work and suffered much more than women.5) He thought women's life was much easier and much more comfortable than men's.6) He realized that women's life was rather limited since they had to work mostly in the house and that many women suffered from men's bullying.7) By using this phrase, the author refers to the poor areas where lower class people, regardless of their gender, had to work hard to make a living.8) The author thinks that the miserable life of the lower class people is similar to the gender inequality that women suffer from. He supports the fight against social inequality, no matter whether it is related to class or gender.Reading comprehension-21) Yes, I agree. The tradition in our society is that men are the breadwinner and women are the homemaker. This means that men are supposed to earn most of themoney to buy a house and support the family, while women do not have such pressure. No, I do not agree with this view. In the modern society, many women have a successful career, and they sometimes are even more powerful than men. For example, there are women holding high positions in such sectors as business, sciences and education. Meanwhile women tend to do most of the housework at home. Therefore, I don't think men carry more weight in life than women.2) Yes, I think so. My parents worked in a big state-owned factory, where both men and women worked at similar positions and earned more or less the same amount of money. No, I do not think so. I grew up in the countryside, where even today men are dominant in the family. In those days, men had greater power in deciding the important things, for example, building houses and annual farming plans, whereas women generally followed what their husband says.3) Yes, a woman's economic status is certainly related to her family status. If she earns the same amount of money as, or even a greater amount than, her husband, she can have great power in making decisions on family issues such as house purchase and distribution of household responsibilities. No, a woman's economic status has nothing to do with how much power and responsibilities she has at home. Husband and wife should share in housework and decision-making regardless of who earns more money to support the family.4) Yes, I think women today still have a lower status than men do. For instance, in top government positions, there are very few women. To solve the problem, I think we can make a law to specify that a certain percentage of women should be hired for a certain type of position. No, I think women have achieved the same status as men in today's China. For example, they have equal rights to education and employment. Boys and girlscan go to the same school. In addition, men and women can both have their own careers.5) In my view, gender equality involves three essential elements. One is mutual respect between the two sexes. This means that men and women should value each other's choices and opinions in daily life. The second is equal rights to participate in the society. In particular, men and women should have the same opportunities to receive education, to have a job outside the home, and to have voices heard in politics. Finally, there should be laws or regulations to guard against gender discrimination. In this way, gender equality can be ensured through legal resources.6-3 Text A: Language focusWords in use1. alien2. optic3. symmetrical4. lubricated5. twinkled, were twinkling6. mediator7. outposts8. traversing9. emancipate10. deductiveWord buliding: Practice Word buliding: Practice-11) prevalent2) persistent3) correspondent4) respondent5) inclusive6) indicative7) inductive9) operative10) responsive11) initiate12) speculativeWord buliding: Practice-21. operative2. indicative3. prevalent4. interactive5. speculative6. initiate7. respondents8. inclusive9. persistent11. responsive12. correspondent Banked cloze1) reason2) levy3) generating4) lightweight5) reduction6) enhance7) achieved8) emancipate9) relationships10) approaches Expressions in use1) being extracted from2) emancipate3) from4) cater to5) have a say on6) made a racket7) was destined to8) run errands9) has scraped by,has been scraping by6-4 Structure analysis & writingStructured writing: Practice参考:A prevalent view in today's media is that the single-child generation is a spoiled generation. Those growing up as single children are "little emperors" and "little empresses" who enjoy all the comfort and attention from their parents and grandparents. In a word, they are the happiestgeneration in China. However, I strongly disagree with this view. In fact, based on my own experiences, I think life as a single child is rather lonely and lacks freedom.I grew up as the only child in my family, just like most kids of my age. My parents and grandparents made me the center of their attention. I did enjoy the comfort of the home they provided me. But I cannot say that I was in any way spoiled and happy.I felt lonely in childhood. When I was very young, I spent a lot of time telling stories to myself or fighting with imaginary robots. Games like chess and cards were luxuries for me as I could seldom find anyone to play with. When I was able to read, I spent a lot of time reading or writing alone. When I was the only one at home, all I thought about was what I should do next, what I wanted, and what I needed.I also had little freedom in the family. My parents and grandparents put all their focus on me. Whatever I did was closely monitored. They decided what clothes I should wear, what food I should eat, andwhat toys I should play with. I felt my life was totally controlled and planned by them.As far as I know, the kids around me all had similar experiences. So, it is a real pity that people keep saying we belong to the most spoiled and the happiest generation. They should stop labeling us this way as I know from my own childhood that life as a single child is far from the happiest.6-5 TranslationTranslationTranslation-1参考:欧洲联盟(欧盟)是一个由28个欧洲国家组成的经济和政治联盟。

英语口语 “家庭妇男”用英语说
英语口语“家庭妇男”用英语说husband=house+band房屋栓牢!(band的含义就是Something that constrains or binds morally orlegally约束:在道义上或法律上受到限制或约束的事物。
比方说the bands of marriage and family婚姻和家庭的约束)。
A house-husband is a man who stays at home and doesn't go to work, whilehis wife goes to work and earns money. Usually a man bees a house-husband inorder to look after children. Sociologists have found the full-time househusbandemerges in three main situations. Firstly, if the wife is ambitious, well-paidand has good job prospects, while her husband is paid poorly and has no jobprospects, it makes economic sense for the female to bee the main ineearner for the household.Secondly, if the wife is tired of household chores and eager to workoutside the home, her husband may forfeit his job for her sake.Thirdly, if the husband can do his work at home, he may take this option asit allows him more time to take care of the family.

However, the pattern of relative income ofmen and women at young(ish) ages in a marriage is striking: there are many young couples inwhich the wife earns slightly less than her husband, or just as much, but far fewer as relativeincome reverses, that is, when the wife earns more.2.

ACold rains, icy sidewalks and gray skies can make winter travel a trial. But hot drinks, snowy slopes, frozen lakes and blue skies full of fresh air? That’s the kind of winter we can all have a try. Here are some cities around the world that make for a great cold-weather destination.Prague, Czech RepublicWith its snow-capped towers and cobbled winding streets, Prague is a fairytale city that remains relatively tourist-free in winter. The unusual and impressive architecture looks even prettier under a sheet of snow. Gas street lamps throughout the city center add a romantic color to evenings. Cafes here are ideal for escaping the bitter cold. The fascinating Estates Theatre, where Mozart conducted the world premiere(首演) of “Don Giovanni” in 1787, is a must.Tromso, NorwayTromso, known as the capital of the Arctic, is great in winter. It’s widely regarded as Norway’s most beautiful city and is a base for spotting the northern lights. There are also fascinating museums, including the Polar Museum, which offers an insight into the history of Arctic expeditions, and the Tromso Museum, famous for its Sami exhibitions.Amsterdam, NetherlandsIn winter, Amsterdam’s museums are much less crowded, making it the time to visit attractions such as Rijksmuseum or the Anne Frank House. Built originally to house a circus, the Royal Carré Theatre is more than 130 years old. Children will love the spectacular performances.Edinburgh, ScotlandCobbled streets, a beautiful castle and lovely public gardens make Edinburgh a beautiful city any time of year, but in winter it’s breathtaking. Princes Street Gardens is transformed into a wonderland, with ice skating rinks, enormous Christmas trees and a Ferris wheel. On the edge of the city, Arthur’s Seat is the perfect location for a winter walk and the views from the top are second to none.1. What is one of the attractions of Prague in winter?A. No charge for all tourists.B. Iconic architectures covered by snow.C. Colorful gas lamps for street lighting.D. Mozart’s performance “D on Giovanni”.2. If you take your 4-year-old kid, which place is the best choice?A. Prague, Czech Republic.B. Tromso, Norway.C. Amsterdam, Netherlands.D. Edinburgh, Scotland.3. Where is this text probably from?A. A tour blog.B. A travel magazine.C. A geography textbook.D. A government website.BMy grandmother moved into an old people’s home and I visited her there. She was sitting in the living room with other residents, half of them asleep. The room was clean and the care assistants were kind and cheerful. A general knowledge quiz show was on the television and the only other sounds were snoring (打呼噜). Grandma talked a lot about how much she missed her grandson but I hated going to visit her there and, to be honest, I couldn’t wait to get away myself. So I was interested to read a newspaper article about a new concept in old people’s homes in France. The idea is simple, but revolutionary—combining an old people’s home with a nursery school in the same building. The children and the residents eat lunch together and share activities such as painting and gardening. In the afternoons, the residents enjoy reading or telling stories to the children, and if a child is feeling sad or tired, there is always a kind lap to sit on. Nowadays there isless and less contact between the old and the young. There are many reasons for this, but the result is the same: increasing numbers of children without grandparents and old people having no contact with children, and more old people who feel lonely and useless, along with more and more families with young children who desperately need more support. It’s a major problem in many societies. That’s why intergenerational programmes, designed to bring the old and the young together, are growing in popularity all over the world. There are examples of successful initiatives. Young people teaching IT skills to older people is one obvious example. Old people working as volunteer assistants in schools is another, perhaps reading with children who need extra attention. The advantages are enormous. The children are happy because they get more individual attention. They also see illness and death and learn to accept them. The residents are happy because they feel useful and more interested in life. There will be less conflict in a community if older people can understand the youth, and vice versa. Now we need to rediscover what “community” really means. Then perhaps getting old won’t be such a depressing prospect after all.4. Why did the author hate going to the old people’s home?A. The old people’s home was lifeless.B. He didn’t love his grandmother that much.C. He didn’t want to disturb the sleeping people.D. The staff were so helpful that he wasn’t needed.5. Why does the author mention the newspaper story in paragraph 2?A. To present a possible solution.B. To share his reading experience.C. To introduce the topic for discussion.D. To add some background information.6. What problem are many societies facing?A. Generation gap.B. Care for the eldly.C. Support for children.D. Intergenerational contact.7. What’s an advantage of bringing the old and the young together?A. Children feel meaningful in life.B. The old will feel fulfilling in life.C. Children learn more modern skills.D. The old can better understand aging.CFor many people, having children can force them to choose between career and family. Sometimes it comes down to finances — sending a child to nursery or hiring a nanny can be a huge financial burden, while others may feel it’s better to be a hands-on parent. These days, more and more men are choosing to stay at home to look after the kids. So why are more dads choosing to put their careers on hold, and what does the job involve? With more women working outside the home than 70 years ago, if the need is there for one parent to stay at home, it could simply come down to who earns more — the biggest breadwinner. And with attitudes changing towards a man’s role in the family, it seems to be easier for them to enter full-time parenthood. Sadly, though, many men still feel shamed by choosing to raise their child. A study in the US by the Pews Research Center found that 51% of people thought children were better off if a mother stayed at home. But what do parents have to do when they choose to stay with their kids?In the early stages, a baby is totally dependent on a carer. The changing of nappies(尿布), burping after milk and making sure they feed on time are just some of the vital 24 -7 activities a baby relies on. During this period, many parents take paternity and maternity leave from work. But as a child gets older, it can become less about necessity and more about choice. Rather than choose a creche(日托中心), which can prove expensive, either parent may remain at home to educate, protect and play with their children to help them develop and grow. It’s a difficult job, with a demanding boss, but it can also be incredibly rewarding for those willing to do it. And with attitudes changing towards who should stay at home, maybe more and more fathers will choose to become stay-at-home dads.8. When may a man choose to stay at home for the child?A. When he is more needed by his child.B. When he is tired of doing a full-time job.C. When his wife earns more money than him.D. When he wants to change his role in the family.9. As the kid gets older, what does full-time parenting mean?A. It seems less expensive.B. It is more time-consuming.C. It is more important to kids.D. It becomes more complicated.10. Full-time parents Benefit Children’s Growth.DFew businesses can run without computers, giving keyboard shortcuts an incredible importance. Schools view typing courses as necessary. But what are we giving up as handwriting loses its significance?Brain power, according to science. Researchers from Princeton University and the University of California conducted a series of studies to demonstrate the differences between students who wrote out their notes and those who typed them. Study participants took notes on a lecture using one of the two methods and were tested 30 minutes after the lecture, and again a week later. The results showed both types of notetakers did well on the first test. The longhand notetakers had a stronger grasp of the overall concept. Students with the handwritten notes were also able to better remember and understand the concept of the lecture a week later, and were more open to understanding new ideas.According to Pam Mueller, lead author of the study, “Our findings suggest even when laptops are used as intended, they may still be harming academic performance.” Part of the reason is that it was faster to take notes on the laptop, using exactly the same words meant they weren’t truly engaged in the content. But notetakers using pen and paper tended to digest the material better and could rephrase it in their own words.Although typing notes using exactly the same words can help in recalling facts in the short term, it takes the focus away from the main points of the lesson. “Ironically, the feature that makes their laptop notetaking so attractive— the ability to take notes more quickly —was what weakened learning,” educational psychologist Dr. Kenneth Kiewra told the Wall Street Journal.Computers aren’t going away soon, but that doesn’t mean paper notebooks become outdated. In fact, it is best to start using them at an early age. University of Indiana researchers compared brain scans of five-year-olds -some who practiced the printing letters, and some who just looked at the letters. Those who wrote out the letters had more enhanced and adult-like brain activity.12. In the study, what were the participants asked to do?A. Compare typing and handwriting.B. Take notes by typing or handwriting and take tests.C. Take two tests right after taking notes on the lecture.D. Take notes using exactly the same words on the lecture.13. What does the underlined word ”longhand“ in paragraph 3 mean?A. Fast.B. Flexible.C. Typing.D. Handwriting.14. What contributes to better learning in note-taking?A. Using the exact words.B. Introducing modern tools.C. Writing as quickly as possible.D. Rephrasing the learning material.15. What would be the best title for the text?A. Typing matters in a way.B. A Pen is better than a keyboard.C. Handwriting builds your brain power.D. Handwriting or typing is a question.第二节(共5 小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5 分)阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项, 选项中有两项为多余选项。

When the Wife Earns More Money
It has always been the assumption that men are the breadwinners of the family. At one point in time, they were. Men made the money and the women took care of the children and the house. However, times have changed.
The cost of living has forced women to work and women have worked their way right up the career ladder. Women are now doctors, lawyers, and business associates.
More than thirty percent of wives earn more than their husbands earn. Of course some of these women are married to jobless men or stay at home dads. Although the wives are earning more than their husbands, they are not necessarily earning a lot. Less than five percent of women who earn more than their husbands earn more than $75,000.
So how do husbands feel about women now taking on some of the roles once thought to belong to the men? Some men are still uncomfortable with their wife earning more than they do. Some women are uncomfortable with earning more than their husband. In fact, even friends and family of the couple can look down upon the man because the woman earns more.
In some cases, the man feels threatened by his wife's earnings. The threat is usually not as prominent when the woman is making the money when the couple marries. However if the woman suddenly gets a salary increase after marriage or if the husband loses his job,the threat may be high.
In other relationships, the woman may feel guilty for earning more money than her husband. In addition it can also lead to resentment. When a woman feels that she is the primary moneymaker, she may begin to feel that her husband should be doing his fair share of housework and chores. However, help from the husband often does not increase.
Outsiders can also look down upon men when their wives earn more money. They tend to believe that the man is lazy or taking advantage of the woman.。
