Solar, wind, and hydroelectric power have become more prevalent, thanks to advancements in technology and increased public awareness. This article explores the evolution of renewable energy and its impact on the global energy landscape. One of the earliest forms of renewable energy was hydroelectric power, which was first harnessed in the late 19th century. Hydroelectric power relies on the energy of flowing water, typically from a dam, to generate electricity. It has been a reliable and efficient source of energy, but its implementation has often faced environmental concerns due to the disruption of natural waterways.Solar energy, on the other hand, has seen a dramatic increase in popularity and efficiency in recent decades. The development of photovoltaic (PV) cells has allowed for the conversion of sunlight directly into electricity. This technology has become more affordable and widespread, with solar panels now commonly seen on rooftops across the globe. However, the large-scale deployment of solar farms has raised questions about their impact on local ecosystems.Wind energy has also gained significant traction, particularly in coastal and windy regions. Wind turbines convert kinetic energy from wind into electrical power. While they have a relatively low environmental impact compared to fossil fuels, the visual impact of wind turbines and the noise they producehave sometimes led to opposition from local communities.Despite these challenges, the global trend is clear: renewable energy is becoming increasingly integral to the energy mix. Governments and private companies alike are investing heavily in renewable energy projects, and the cost of solar and wind energy has decreased dramatically, making them more competitive with traditional sources.Questions:1.What is the primary purpose of the article?A) To discuss the benefits of renewable energy.B) To criticize the environmental impact of renewable energy.C) To compare the efficiency of different renewable energy sources.D) To argue for the immediate abandonment of fossil fuels.2.According to the passage, which of the following is a challenge faced by the implementation of hydroelectric power?A) The high cost of photovoltaic cells.B) The disruption of natural waterways.C) The visual impact of wind turbines.D) The noise produced by solar panels.3.Which statement about the cost of renewable energy is supported by the passage?A) Renewable energy is becoming less affordable over time.B) The cost of renewable energy is increasing, making it less competitive.C) The cost of solar and wind energy has decreased significantly.D) The cost of renewable energy is unchanged, making it competitive.Answers:1.A) To discuss the benefits of renewable energy.2.B) The disruption of natural waterways.3.C) The cost of solar and wind energy has decreased significantly.三、完型填空(15分)Title: The Importance of ReadingReading is a vital skill that opens up a world of knowledge and imagination. This shift in lifestyle has raised concerns about the impact it has on their mental health. Many experts argue that spending time in nature can significantly improve children’s well-being. The canyon was formed by the Colorado River over millions of years, and it offers breathtaking views of the layers of rock that tell th e story of the Earth’s history.Every year, millions of visitors come to the Grand Canyon to experience its grandeur. One of the most popular trails is the South Rim Trail, which offers stunning views of the canyon from multiple lookout points. On a recent visit to the Grand Canyon, I decided to hike the South Rim Trail. The trail starts at the South Rim Visitor Center and takes you on a 13-mile round trip. As I made my way along the trail, I couldn’t help but marvel at the stunning scenery. 中考英语考前专项提升必刷练习之短文填空\1The development of the English language took a giant step in 1607. Three small British ships c 1 the Atlantic Ocean. They began to call areas of their new land by words borrowed from the native people. For example, many of the great r 2 in the United States are taken from American Indian words. The Mississippi, the Tennessee, the Missouri are examples. This borrowing or adding of foreign words to English was a w 3 of expanding(扩大)the language. The names of three days of the week are good examples of this. The people from Northern Europe honored three gods with a special day each week. The gods were Odin, Thor and Freya. Odin’s-day became Wednesday in English, Thor’s-day became T 4 and Freya’s-day became Friday.Experts cannot explain many English words. For h 5 of years, a dog was called a “hound.” The word is still u 6 but not as commonly as the word “dog.” English speakers just started using it. Other words whose origins are unknown i 7 “fun,” “bad,” and “big.”English speakers also continue to invent n 8 words by linking old words together. A good example is the words “motor” and “hotel.”Many years agos 9 linked them together into the word “motel.” A motel is a small hotel near a road where people travelling in cars can stay for the night.Other words come from the f 10 letters of names of groups or devices. In India they have plenty of fruit to sell, but much of it is expensive b 2 they can’t grow much as a result of the water situation. He saw a big basket of some very red, long fruit. And it was the c 3 in the shop, not expensive at all.He went up and asked,“how much per kilo?”“Two rupees.”Two rupees in India is almostn 4 ; it’s like dirt (尘土). So he bought a whole kilogram of it and started eating it. ButA5 he ate some of it: Oh, my god! His eyes watered, his mouth watered and burned, his eyes were burning, his head was burning and his face became red. He jumped up and down, saying,“Ah! Ah! Ah!”But he s 6 continued to eat! Some people looking at him shook their heads and said,“You’re crazy. Those are chilies (辣椒)! You can’t eat them like that. They’re not fruit!” However, the master said, “No, I can’t stop! I paid money for them, and now I’ll eat them. It’s my money!”You may think that master was s 7 , right? Similarly, we sometimes do a lot of thingsl 8 that. We devote money, time or effort to a relationship. Even though the suffering experience tells us itwon’t w 9 , and we know there’s no hope things will change in the future—we still continue just because we’ve devoted money, time, effort and love to it. Just like the man who ate the chilies and suffer ed so much but couldn’t stop.So even if you’ve lost something, let it g 10 and move on.

I felt like r 5 with “Oh no, what should we do?” But remembering that little girl, I found m 6 saying, “Wow, that is interesting! How can I help you?”
One thing is for sure-life is always going to make us f 7 unexpected problems, however, how to deal with them is our choice. We can choose to be annoyed or i 8 .
No matter what the situation is, a “Wow!” will always b 9 “Oh, no.”
