Lesson 1 Finding fossil man 发现化石人We can read of things that happened 5,000 years ago in the Near East, where people first learned to write. But there are some parts of the word where even now people cannot write. The only way that they can preserve their history is to recount it as sagas -- legends handed down from one generation of another. These legends are useful because they can tell us something about migrations of people who lived long ago, but none could write down what they did. Anthropologists wondered where the remote ancestors of the Polynesian peoples now living in the Pacific Islands came from. The sagas of these people explain that some of them came from Indonesia about 2,000 years ago.But the first people who were like ourselves lived so long ago that even their sagas, if they had any, are forgotten. So archaeologists have neither history nor legends to help them to find out where the first 'modern men' came from.Fortunately, however, ancient men made tools of stone, especially flint, because this is easier to shape than other kinds. They may also have used wood and skins, but these have rotted away. Stone does not decay, and so the tools of long ago have remained when even the bones of the men who made them have disappeared without trace.参考译文我们从书籍中可读到5,000 年前近东发生的事情,那里的人最早学会了写字。

They may question their values, beliefs, and goals, leading to feelings of uncertainty and confusion.Peer pressure: Adolescents are highly influenced by their peers, and they may feel pressure to conform tocertain social norms or engage in risky behaviors. 青少年成长过程中的烦恼英语作文

青少年成长过程中的烦恼英语作文

青少年成长过程中的烦恼英语作文Growing Up Isn't EasyHi there! My name is Jessica and I'm 10 years old. I'm in the 5th grade at Oakwood Elementary School. My teacher, Mrs. Robinson, assigned us to write an essay about the challenges of being a kid and growing up. At first, I didn't know what to write about since being a kid seems pretty easy and fun to me! But after thinking about it more, I realized there actually are quite a few troubles and difficulties that come along with getting older. One of the biggest issues I face is dealing with all the changes happening to my body and mind. It's kind of weird and uncomfortable at times! My body has started developing in some pretty awkward ways recently. I've gotten taller, hair is growing in new places, and things are shifting shapes that I'm not used to. My best friend Sophia and I sometimes look at each other and say "What is happening?!" It can be confusing and embarrassing, especially when boys start teasing about this stuff. My emotions and feelings have been all over the place too. Some days I'm really happy and energetic, while others I'm moody, irritable, and want to be alone. It's hard to predict how I'll feel from one moment to the next. My mom says it's due to"hormones" but I'm not totally sure what that means. Whatever it is, it can make me overreact to little things that shouldn't be a big deal. I've gotten in trouble at school a few times for outbursts that were just due to me being in a funk that day.Along with my changing body and emotions, my thoughts and mindset have been shifting too as I get older. I find myself questioning things a lot more instead of just accepting what I'm told. I'll ask my parents "Why?" about rules or disagree with things my teacher says. This sense of curiosity and independence is new for me. While it's good to develop critical thinking skills, it can also get me into hot water if I'm too argumentative or disrespectful when voicing my opinions.Another big issue I face is all the increasing responsibilities, expectations, and academic pressure. When I was little, playtime and fun was the top priority. Now schoolwork, chores, activities, and other obligations take up most of my time. My parents are always nagging me about finishing homework, studying for tests, cleaning my room, practicing my instrument, and all these other tasks. It's exhausting! Sometimes I just want to run away and go be a kid again with no strings attached.Speaking of strings attached, dealing with friends and social situations has also become more complicated and stressful. When we were young, we'd just run around laughing and playing together at recess with no drama. Now there are cliques, exclusion, rumors, bullying, hurt feelings, and expectations about how to dress or act a certain way to fit in. It's awful. I've had my heart broken a few times by former best friends turning on me or leaving me out. Betrayal by a good friend really stings.Lastly, a major issue I struggle with is figuring out who I am and want to become. I'm realizing there are so many possibilities and paths ahead of me. What skills do I want to develop? What values are most important? What career might I want later on? What type of person do I aspire to be? With so many choices and no roadmap, it's easy to feel lost or indecisive. I don't have my entire life figured out yet at age 10, but there's pressure to start planning my future at a young age these days.Even though being a kid definitely has its perks like fewer responsibilities and getting to play more, growing up also comes with a lot of troubles and challenges. Hormonal changes to my body and brain have been weird to adjust to. I have way more academic demands, chores, and activities now that take up my time and energy. Social dynamics like gossip, bullying, and feeling excluded can be really hurtful and isolating. And thenthere's the constant questioning of who I am and what I want out of life going forward.I guess what I've realized through this essay is that growing up is complicated and not always fun and games! There are lots of confusing feelings, pressures, and issues that come along with becoming an adult, even when you're still a kid yourself. Mrs. Robinson wanted us to write about the troubles of youth, and I've covered many of the big ones I'm facing right now. While getting older definitely has its difficulties, I know these are just phases and personal growth I need to work through. My parents keep telling me "This too shall pass!" and to try to embrace the journey of life, both the good and bad parts. I'm taking it one step at a time and doing my best to navigate these troubles as best I can. Hopefully, by riding out this bumpy transition period into my teenage years, I'll eventually gain the wisdom, maturity and resilience to take on any other challenges adulthood throws my way. For now though, being a kid is already tough enough! I better go do my chores and homework now before I get into more trouble...。

青少年遇到困难解决困难英语作文

青少年遇到困难解决困难英语作文

青少年遇到困难解决困难英语作文Dealing With Hard Times As A KidLife can be really tough sometimes, even for kids like me. We might face problems with our family, have issues with friends at school, struggle with classes and homework, or just feel sad or anxious for whatever reason. When big challenges come up, it can be overwhelming and make us want to give up. But I've learned that it's important to keep going and not let the hard times beat you down. Here are some tips for dealing with difficulties that have helped me get through rough patches. One of the biggest things is to talk to people you trust about what you're going through. Whether it's your parents, a teacher, a counselor, or a good friend, sharing your troubles with others makes them feel less heavy. The adults and friends who really care about you can offer advice, a different perspective, or just a supportive ear to listen. Sometimes just getting those feelings out in the open makes you feel a little better. It also helps to know you aren't alone and that many people experience tough situations too. It's also really important to take care of yourself physically and mentally. When I'm stressed out, I try to eat healthy foods, get enough sleep, exercise, and do relaxing activities I enjoy like reading, playing outside, or listening to music. Taking breaks from worrying gives my mind a rest. And doing simple things that make me feel good boosts my mood and energy to keep pushing through. Self-care reminds me that I matter.Another big one for me is breaking problems down into smaller, manageable pieces. Big issues can seem impossible to tackle when you look at them all at once. But if I break it down into baby steps, it feels a lot more doable. If I'm struggling with a class, I make a plan to re-read certain chapters, do extra practice problems, meet with the teacher for help, and eventually master that subject bit-by-bit. If there's an argument with a friend, we can start mending things by each apologizing for our part, then making an effort to treat each other better. Taking itstep-by-step makes forward progress.I've found that a positive attitude goes a very long way too. It's easy to get stuck in a cycle of negative self-talk where you beat yourself up and expect the worst. But I try to shut down those pessimistic voices in my head and be an optimist instead. I tell myself "I can get through this" and picture myself overcoming the challenge. Believing in myself and maintaininghope for better days gives me strength. Having role models who persevered inspires me as well.Sometimes the hardest part is simply being patient and not giving up. There have been times I worked really hard but didn't see results right away. That's when I have to remind myself that most things worth achieving take time and effort. I can't get demoralized or quit too soon. I picture it like running a long race - if I stick it out and keep putting one foot in front of the other, I'll eventually cross that finish line. Taking each day one step at a time keeps me going. Most importantly, I try to have faith that brighter days are ahead. The hard times won't last forever. If I remain hopeful, lean on my support systems, take care of myself, and just keep working at it, there's always a light at the end of the tunnel. I picture these challenges as temporary storms that I'll get through and come out stronger on the other side. No matter how dark or bleak things feel right now, the storm clouds will eventually part.Dealing with difficulties is never easy, but I've realized that it's a huge part of growing up. Everyone goes through rough patches and faces problems. By using the right mindset and strategies, I've found that I can overcome a lot more than Ithought possible when I was feeling stuck. So if you're struggling with something hard too, don't get discouraged. Use your COPES: Communicate, Organize, Positivity, Endurance, and Support. Those tools have really helped me hang tough and push forward. I believe in you - you've got this! Just take it one step at a time, and you'll make it through.。

Problem of youth
第一段
People are always talking about”the prolem of youth”.(人们经常讨论“年轻人的问题”)
If there is one-which I take leave to doubt-then it is older people who create it,not the young themselves.(假如确实有这个问题的话-我冒昧对此表示怀疑-那也是老年人而非年轻人导致的)
Let us get down to fundamentals and agree that the young are after all human beings-people just like their elders.(让我们认真研究一些基本事实—应当承认,年轻人终究也只是普通人,和他们的长辈别无二致)
There is only one difference between an old man and a young one:(老年人和青年人唯一的区别在于:)
The young man has a glorious future before him (年轻人有着光辉灿烂的前景)And the old one has a splendid future behind him:(而老年人的辉煌已是明日黄花)And maybe that is where the rub is.(或许这就是症结所在)
第二段
When I was a teenager,I felt that I was just young and uncertain-that I was a new boy in a huge school,(当我还是个十几岁的孩子时,我感到自己很年轻,充满了不确定性—学校很大)
And I would have been very pleased to be regarded as something so interesting as a problem.(而我只是个初来乍到的男孩子,我很乐意被看成是个有趣的难题)
For one thing, being a problem gives you a certain identity, and that is one of the things the young are busily engaged in seeking.(一方面,难题本身也是一种身份标识,而这正是年轻人所热衷追求的)
第三段
I find young people exciting.(我觉得年轻人令人振奋)
They have an air of freedom, and they not a dreary commitment to mean ambitions or love of comfort.(他们有一种无拘无束的风度,既不热衷于卑劣的野心,也不贪图安逸)
They are not anxious social climbers, and they have no devotion to material things.(他们不会痴迷于挤进上流社会,也不会贪恋荣华富贵)
All this seems to me to link them with life, and the origins of things.(在我看来,这一切都与生命和万物之源息息相关)
It’s as if they were,in some sense, cosmic beings in violent and lovely contrast with us suburban creatures.(从某种意义上说,他们仿佛是宇宙生命,同我们这些庸碌之辈形成了强烈而鲜明的对比)
All that is in my mind when I meet a young person.(当我遇到一位年轻人,我就会产生这种想法)
He may be conceited,ill-mannered,presumptuous or fatuous,(他或许自以为是、举止失礼、傲慢放肆或蒙昧无知)
but I do not turn for protection to dreary cliche about respect of elders-as if mere age were a reason for respect.(但我不会摆出尊重老年人的陈词滥调以自保,好像年老就理所应当受到尊重)
I accept that we are equals, and I will argue with him ,as an equal,if I think he is wrong.(我认为我们是平等的,如果我不赞同他的观点,那么我将以平等的身份与他辨明是非)。
