E.g. What is your major? Why did you choose this major? Do you like it and why? 1. Interest (internal factor)2. Expectation from others (external factor)Being encouraged/motivated by (eg. Parents)3. Besides, in addition, to begin with, anyway, last but not the least, etc.

Part 1 General Questions1 Accommodation1.Can you describe the place where you live?Well, the room I live in is really nice, it’s bright and spacious. What really satisfies me is that it’s really near where I work. And one more thing which I’d have to mention about is it cost much less than I thought.2.What do you usually do in your house/flat/room?I watch TV and do some house chores like scrubbing toilets.3.Are the transport facilities to your home very good? No, they are not so good. The nearest bus station is half a mile away and there’s only one bus passing every twenty minutes. You’ll get frustrated if you miss a bus.4.Please describe the room you live in.I recently put in new hardwood floors and a new fence in the backyard so it doesn't need any improvements. My next home will be a 3 story home, have a huge fenced in backyard for my 3 dogs, all hardwood floors, granite(花岗岩) countertops(厨房的工作台面))_, and 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths.5.Is there anything you don't like about the place where you live? It is the color of the wall in my bedroom. It's in light blue color at the moment and the blue is so light that it gets dirty easily. And I'm not into house chores. Plus, the blue color always reminds me of the walls in hospital...so it makes feel I'm living in a hospital sometimes and I definitely don't enjoy feeling like that.6.What kind of decorations does it have?My door is completely covered in concert posters and tickets. Also, I have an oil painting of an island with a small yellow house with a tin (锡)roof on it and a little boat docked靠码头 out in the water.7.How do you think this room could be improved?Right now I already have glow in the dark stars all over my walls. Although it makes it look pretty cool at night it’s dark during the day and makes me feel depressed. So I want to change the color in to blue and add some posters on it.8.What can you see when you look out the window of your room? When I look out the window I can see the flowers are in bloom and children are playing in the yard.9.How well do you know your neighbors? Not much. Most of my neighbors are about 70 years old and have a puppy. I stay at college most of the time. We don’t have an ything in common and just say "hi" when we meet.10.What kind of people are your neighbors?I love all my neighbors except one. My downstairs neighbor frequently plays his music excessively loud. It rattles(发出咯咯声) the change off my coffee table. I spoke to him repeatedly and he always turns it down to merely loud. But then turns it back up within the hour.11.Do you spend much time socializing with your neighbors in yourneighbors’ home? Not much. Most of my neighbors are about 70 years old and have a puppy. I stay at college most of the time. We don’t have anything in common and just say "hi" when we meet.12.Do you like the environment where you live?I live in a suburban environment and I love it. I don’t mind driving 20 minutes to go to the grocery store. When I go to big cities it is fun for about a week but I soon miss flowers and having a backyard and trees and the simplest things like cute birds.13.Would you say the place where you live is good for families withchildren? It doesn’t matter for adults b ut where I live right now is not good for children.I live in the center of big city. Crappy apartments smell like cigarettes with a lot of divorced parents. Also I think a supportive and friendly suburban environment is good for children.14.In the future, what type of place would you like to live in?It’s a house. I would like to live in a bigger space. Preferably a two-floor detached house can give me more spaces to move around, especial in the garden. I always fancyhaving some BBQ parties with my friends in my own garden.15.What kind of neighborhood/environment/surroundings would you like tolive in?I grew up in a suburban environment and I love it to an extent. I don’t mind driving20 minutes to go to the grocery store. When I go to big cities it is fun for abouta week but I soon miss flowers and having a backyard and trees and the simplest things like cute birds.2 Birds1.How do you feel about birds?I think birds are great to have around, especially in the mornings when the birds are chirping(叽喳而鸣), I think it really makes the world feel alive and full of vivaciousness(活泼,快活).2.How do Chinese people feel about birds?Watching birds flying always make Chinese feel a sense of freedom and their chirps sounds very cheerful. We still feel that a bird should not be trapped in a cage and it should have open space like us.3.Have you seen many different kinds of birds?Yes. I see a lot of magpie(喜鹊) chirpings around my window and I like them because in Chinese culture, magpie stands for good luck. I can see swallow in a lake near my flat, there are some gorgeous swans. They make the lake fantastic.4.Do any birds have any particular significance in China? For example, does China have a national bird?Actually in my country, people really have superstitions(迷信) regarding birds, for example, magpies are a sign of good luck and swallows signal new life while crows symbol misfortune.5.Do you think birds should be protected?I think everything deserves a chance at life, humans are constant exploiting (利用) birds for medicinal purposes and its very common for people to eat wild birds in China, I really think wild birds should be protected because they are an important part of the ecosystem.6.Do Chinese people like raising pet birds?Yes they do. In China, there are streets just for birds and bird cages. People make parakeets(鹦鹉), cockatiels(小公鸡), and parrot as their pets. They are great companions for the elderly.7.Have you ever raised a pet bird?Yes, I do. I used to live in an apartment that was just too small to house a dog, so I keep a Cockatiel as a pet bird. It gave me great companions.8.What did you feed it?Well, Cockatiel required a nutritionally balanced diet for a long and healthy life. Cockatiel consumed a variety of people foods such as leafy greens, spaghetti, yogurt, lean cooked meats such as chicken, small amounts of cheese and boiled eggs. If the food is not healthy for humans, it will not be healthy for my Cockatiel.9.What kinds of birds are there where you live?I'm not a big fan of birds so I don't really know the name, but the birds I see around my area are mostly black birds that have a yellow beak(鸟嘴), oh, and I can also see some swallows during the spring.10.Are there any birds that have disappeared?Well I recall that when I was young there were a lot of wild blue jays(松鸟)in my neighborhood, but now due to all the construction that's going on in my hometown. We don't see a lot of them anymore.11.Do you think birds are important?Yes, birds are important to human beings, because they are essential links in maintaining ecological(生态的)balance. It would be hard to imagine a world without birds, the sky would become dead calm and forests would be silenced too. I believe that we can't live without them.3 Birthdays1.Do people in China celebrate birthdays? It depends. Throw a party, have birthday gatherings, most people will acknowledge their birthday, but they don't actually celebrate it.2.Which birthdays are especially important in China?Traditionally, Chinese people don't attach much attention to their birthdays until they reach a certain age. However, they do celebrate birthdays for newborns and elderly people by inviting relatives and close friends to banquets(宴会) that feature various activities.3.Do people in China have birthday parties? In China, for the generation who was born in 70's, they hardly celebrate their birthdays in the parties.
