The professor talks about two adaptions animals living in the desert use to deal with shortage of food. First, some animals have a special skill which helps them reduce energy consumption. For example, the kangaroo can actually jump instead of running when it's in search of food. This skill enables the kangaroo to cover longer distances to look for food. Second, some animals have the ability to convert the food energy into body fat and then store it. For example, a type of lizard will eat as much as possible after it finds food. It then converts the energy it gets from the food and stores it in its tail. This way, it can make use of the energy stored in its tail during times when food is hard to find. Task 2:Do you agree or disagree that it is good for students’ learning if the teacher assign a lot of homework?2016年9月10日上午托福口语Task2 –Do you agree or disagree that students would learn more if the teachers assign them with more schoolwork?托福口语模板及参考答案:托福口语参考答案一:I don't think it is a good thing coz first students are not examination machines; they need to develop in an all-round way; if they are always bombarded with endless homework or examinations, they wouldn't have enough time to read widely and think freely; their creativity will be stifled, that will only backfire rather than contribute to their development; second, too much homework not only adds unnecessary burden to students academic life, their physical health will also be at stake. Numerous cases already show that quite a number of students fall victims to myopia, obesity and even diabetes due to overburdened homework assignments, who basically have no time at all to workout; some school even cancel PE classes to make students do more math drills, that is simply crazy.托福口语参考答案二:I disagree that students would learn more with a big load of schoolwork. I mean, a moderate amount is necessary for students to understand deeper of the class content and master difficult point, but too much work is hardly beneficial. I once had a very strict and experienced math teacher in junior high. Basically the classes were good, the only problem was what was left after - we just couldn’t handle the load of work he assigned.I had a friend back then who was talented in math, but because of the workload, he gradually lost interest in solving math problems. And because the homework was hard to finish, many of us didn’t improve as the teacher expected. Basically it was a frustrating experience.。

Well, I would like to go Las Vegas. The city is around 125 kilometres away from my town, Bullhead City in Arizona. So if I could go there, I think by car is a second-to-none choice. Las Vega is mostly famous for the colourful nightlife. This is a resort town located in the Mojave Desert in Nevada. The town has some specialties and during the night times, it looks best. The entire city is well decorated and illuminated. The most amazing feature of the city is the musical fountain. It is synchronised with music. Besides, the Strip is also another attractive issue at the town. The replicas like Eiffel Tower; Egyptian Pyramids etc. are also some adorable things here.I am a student at Everest College and having an undergrad course in economics.I have a group of six members in the college. We love to be together always like having a group study, moving for a theatre, joining at any ceremony and more. Sometimes we make some short trips in some less distant areas. Now we are planning to have a trip in Las Vegas. Though I went there for several times with my dad to meet my uncle who owns a small pub there, I did not have the chance to move on my own. Dad always was with me lest I get into any bar or pub and have a drink. In fact, my parents are conservative in some aspects.I would like to go there by car because it is a long journey. Las Vegas is around 125 kilometres away from my home. Moving such a distance alone is not preferable for me. Go there with your good friends will be much better. If I become a victim of an accident, there is none to look after me on the highway to Vegas. Even there are some risks to move alone in the city until you are matured enough to protect yourself from any sudden invasion. Considering all the issues, I have decided to make the trip with my friends. Moreover, it would be great fun for us. A wonderful sightseeing journey! All of us have visited the town but we lack the experience to stay at night there. So, I am going there on the car that will be driven by David.理想之家P2Describe a dream home you would like to haveYou should say:Where this place isWhat it is likeWhen you want to live in thereand explain why you want to live in such a placeP3Do most Chinese people live in an apartment or house?Do young people in your country like to live with their parents or by themselves?Do Chinese people like to rent a place to live?Would you live in a foreign country in the future? How is modem home design (both inside & outside appearance) in your country different to that of the past?ln your country, what type of home do most people live in?9月9日雅思听力真题回忆:Section 1场景对话标题一个女性在反馈酒店宣传册印制情况题型填空 10 内容概述:一个女性在反馈酒店宣传册印制情况。

T1You will need to accomplish an assignment to do a presentation. Which will you choose?1. Act out a scene from a play(with a partner)2. Explain your review of a novel you recently you read3. Read a selection of poem范文Among the three presentation choices, I would choose to act out a play with my partner. As a literature major, I have been deeply entranced by dramas, accordingly, I'd rather consider acting as a form of amusement than regarding it as a job. To illustrate, I remember the first year in college, I made a rather unusual decision to deliver a performance on Shakespeare's Drama-Hamlet at New Year’s party instead of participating in student’s choir in singing. As a result, the decision paid off since I was granted an acting position at city's drama club, as a reward for my authentic and impressive performance. Ever since then, acting has become part of my daily ritual for my passion and adoration for it never dies out.T2Someone choose to work in a small company or organization with a few workers. Others prefer to work in a large company or organization with thousands of employees. Which do you think is better?范I am in favor of working in a large corporation rather thana small firm because large corporations often are ruled and governed by stable regulations whereas small firm often undergoes management transformations in which causing employees time to adjust and adapt to the new leaderships. Take my brother Jim as an illustration, he used to work as a high-tech personal in a petite firm which was specializing in virtual reality technology. Initially he was so passionate about the job that he barely took any weekends off for his own pleasure, he was so determined that he'd be promoted with such exceptional skills and professionalism. But he was wrong, after a few years, he was spiritually and psychically worn out because the management seats were constantly going through changes and his promotions were never brought up on the agenda because the new supervisors always bring their own personals to take charge in company affairs. Consequently, Jim had no choice but to quit the old firm and join an elite corporation that has business dealings nationwide, his excellent work has soon to be spotted by the management and he was granted promotion in a short term. Therefore, I'm inclined to listen to my brother Jim and work in a large company with stable leadership2017年托福阅读真题词汇in retrospect=reconsiderintensive=extremecollapsed=fall inwardadverse=unfavorablediminish=decreaseaccerlerate=fastergross=overallscenario=version of eventsunprecedented=never before2017年托福托福写作真题范文综合写作题目:Whether the three methods to stop snakeheads fromspreading is feasible.阅读:The reading raises three methods to stop the spread of snakehead fish because it threatens the ecosystem.1. Making laws to prevent people from transporting snakehead fish. Some people in the fish market will illegally transport or release unsold snakehead fish.2. Educating fishers to catch snakehead. If they recognize that people actually can eat snakehead as a food source, they will catch many to eat and to sell.3. Researching some poison to kill the snakehead. Though poison will also kill native fishes in the river, people can restock native fishes.听力:The listening contradicts all methods proposed by the author of the passage and points out their potential problems.1. Even if people do not transport the snakehead, the spread will still continue. The reason is that there are already many snakeheads, and these snakeheads will move to other rivers even without human's efforts, because they can live and move on land as long as they are moist.2. Educating fishers to catch snakehead will not help stop the spread of snakehead. Conversely, it may lead to the increase of snakehead. Because when fishers realize they can make profit by catching snakehead, they will introduce snakehead to other water bodies and raise snakehead in order to catch more snakehead, even this is illegal.3. It is true that native fishes can be restocked; however, poison will also kill some insects and micro organisms, which cannot be restocked. So,native fishes that feed on these insects and micro organisms cannot grow to their original size. This is irreversible.。

For one thing, this kind of activity will improve their cooperation skills. To be more specific, a theater performance includes the whole process of organizing, participating, and promoting an event. Whether the student director or the actor take the responsibility toachieve his/her duty, so this is a great opportunity for them to learn how to deal with other people。

Moreover, a performance could greatly inspire them to be more creative.I mean, in order to make a good show, students may have lots of difficulties to cope with, so they have to be flexible to face any emergency. As a result, they may come up with lots of new ideas to make it。

The straight lines and the central shape with straight line are “Nazca Lines”The term “Nazca Lines” refer to a series of images created in the desert of Peru about 2,000 years ago. These images, manydepicting geometric shapes, are extremely large with some covering several kilometers. Although researchers know how the Nazca Lines were created--the top layer of dark rocks were removed from the desert floor, exposing the lighter soil underneath--they remain uncertain why they were created. Several theories have been suggested to account for the presence of these lines. One theory is that the Nazca Lines were used as an astronomical calendar for tracking events such as the winter solstice (the day with shortest number of daylight hours) that were important to agricultural peoples. This theory was supported by the discovery of an astronomical link between some of the images and various planets and stars. It was pointed out, for example, that on the day of the winter solstice, the Sun sets almost directly over a single long line drawn in the desert.Another theory is that the Nazca images were created as a monumental ar t form expressing the Nazca people’s cultural and social importance in the region. Many ancient peoples built large monuments and artworks to demonstrate their power and celebrate their achievements. The Egyptians built massive pyramids, for example, and Easter Islanders curved massive human heads out of stone. It seems reasonable, therefore, to think that the Nazca images were built for similar reasons--to impress others.A third theory focuses on the fact that there is evidence that people traveled by foot along the line. This has led to the speculation that the Nazca Lines represented sites of footraces in which individuals or groups of individuals competed for athletic victory. In this view, the Nazca images are ancient racetracks.ListeningThe three theories that you read give some very creative explanations for the Nazca Lines. But none holds up well unto the examination.First, about the Nazca Lines as indicators of astronomic events. What the reading didn’t mention is that the vast majority of Nazca images don’t match up with anything observable in the sky. And for the few images they do, well, you know, there are hundreds of Nazca images and countless objects in the sky. Given these numbers, of course, a few line up. That would happen just by chance.Second, the Nazca images as art. Well, it is certainly true that Nazca images are large, but they are impressive really only when seen from overhead, like in an airplane. When you’re simply standing on the ground next to one of these images, it is not impressive at all. The landscape is too flat and the images are too large to allow people on the ground to recognize them. This is very different from the pyramids and the Easter Island stones. They are not just large, they are tall. It is their great height them makes them visible and impressive.Third, the idea that people were using the lines as racing tracks. Some of the images are in the shape of animals. There is a monkey, a hummingbird, a spider and so on. And these images are too complex to make good locations for foot race. Ok, so what could count for the evidence that foot traveled along the line? We can’t be sure of course, but we know that other prehistoric peoples in the region had religious rituals that involved walking along especially created pathways. It could be that Nazca line played a role in religious rituals or ceremonies that involved walking along the line.Writing 22017年9月17日独立作文:A lot of high school students now cheat in homework assignments, by asking other students for answers. 2017年托福复习资料模拟试题及答案(七)

2017年托福复习资料模拟试题及答案(七)

Biological diversity has become widely recognized as a critical conservation issue only in the past two decades. The rapid destruction of the tropical rain forests, which are the ecosystems with the highest known species diversity on Earth, has awakened people to the importance and fragility of biological diversity. The high rate of species extinctions in these environments is jolting, but it is important to recognize the significance of biological diversity in all ecosystems. As the human population continues to expand, it will negatively affect one after another of Earth's ecosystems. In terrestrial ecosystems and in fringe marine ecosystems (such as wetlands), the most common problem is habitat destruction. In most situations, the result is irreversible. Now humans are beginning to destroy marine ecosystems through other types of activities, such as disposal and run off of poisonous waste; in less than two centuries, by significantly reducing the variety of species on Earth, they have unraveled cons of evolution and irrevocably redirected its course. Certainly, there have been periods in Earth's history when mass extinctions have occurred. The extinction of the dinosaurs was caused by some physical event, either climatic or cosmic. There have also been less dramatic extinctions, as when natural competition between species reached an extreme conclusion. Only .01 percent of the species that have lived on Earth have survived to the present, and it was largely chance that determined which species survived and which died out. However, nothing has ever equaled the magnitude and speed with which the human species is altering the physical and chemical world and demolishing the environment. In fact, there is wide agreement that it is the rate of change humans are inflicting, even more than the changes themselves, that will lead to biological devastation. Life on Earth has continually been in flux as slow physical and chemical changes have occurred on Earth, but life needs time to adapt — time for migration and genetic adaptation within existing species and time for the proliferation of new genetic material and new species that may be able to survive in new environments. 1. What does the passage mainly discuss? (A) The causes of the extinction of the dinosaur (B) The variety of species found in tropical rain forests. (C) The impact of human activities on Earth's ecosystems (D) The time required for species to adapt to new environments 2. The word "critical⾄关重要的" in line 1 is closest in meaning to (A) negative (B) essential (C) interesting (D) complicated 3. The word "jolting使震惊" in line 5 is closest in meaning to (A) predicted (B) shocking (C) unknown (D) illuminating 4. The author mentions the reduction of the variety of species on Earth in line 12 to suggest that (A) new habitats can be created for species (B) humans are often made ill by polluted water (C) some species have been made extinct by human activity (D) an understanding of evolution can prevent certain species from disappearing 5. The author mentions all of the following as examples of the effect of humans oil the world's ecosystems EXCEPT (A) destruction of the tropical rain forests (B) habitat destruction in wetlands (C) damage to marine ecosystems (D) the introduction of new varieties of plant species 6. The author mentions the extinction of the dinosaurs in the second paragraph to emphasize that (A) the cause of the dinosaurs extinction is unknown (B) Earth's climate has changed significantly since the dinosaurs' extinction, (C) not all mass extinctions have been caused by human activity (D) actions by humans could not stop the irreversible process of a species' extinction 7. The word "magnitude" in line 20 is closest in meaning to (A) concern (B) determination (C) carelessness (D) extent 8. According to the passage , natural evolutionary change is different from changes caused by humans in that changes caused by humans (A) are occurring ata much faster rate (B) are less devastating to most species (C) affect fewer ecosystems (D) are reversible 9. With which of the following statements would the author be most likely to agree? (A) Human influence on ecosystems should not be a factor in determining public policy. (B) The extinction of a few species is an acceptable consequence of human progress. (C) Technology will provide solutions to problems caused by the destruction of ecosystems. (D) Humans should be more conscious of the influence they have on ecosystems 答案: CBBCD CDAD。

2017年托福考试阅读理解模拟试题及答案

2017年托福考试阅读理解模拟试题及答案A number of factors related to the voice reveal the personality of the speaker. The first is the broad area of communication, which includes imparting information by use of language, communicating with a group or an individual, and specialized communication through performance. A person conveys thoughts and ideas through choice of words, by a tone of voice that is pleasant or unpleasant, gentle or harsh, by the rhythm that is inherent within the language itself, and by speech rhythms that are flowing and regular or uneven and hesitant, and finally, by the pitch and melody of the utterance. When speaking before a group, a person's tone may indicate unsureness or fright, confidence or calm. At interpersonal levels, the tone may reflect ideas and feelings over and above the words chosen, or may belie them. Here theconversant's tone can consciously or unconsciously reflect intuitive sympathy or antipathy, lack of concern or interest, fatigue, anxiety, enthusiasm or excitement, all of which are usually discernible by the acute listener. Public performance is a manner of communication that is highly specialized with its own techniques for obtaining effects by voice and /or gesture. The motivation derived from the text, and in the case of singing, the music, in combination with the performer's skills, personality, and ability to create empathy will determine the success of artistic, political, or pedagogic communication.Second, the voice gives psychological clues to a person's self-image, perception of others, and emotional health. Self-image can be indicated by a tone of voice that is confident, pretentious, shy, aggressive, outgoing, or exuberant, to name only a few personality traits. Also the sound may give a clue to the facade or mask of that person, for example, a shy person hiding behind an overconfident front. How a speaker perceives the listener's receptiveness, interest, or sympathy in any given conversation can drastically alter the tone of presentation, by encouraging or discouraging the speaker. Emotional health is evidenced in the voice by free and melodic sounds of the happy, by constricted and harsh sound of theangry, and by dull and lethargic qualities of the depressed.1. What does the passage mainly discuss?(A) The function of the voice in performance(B) The connection between voice and personality(C) Communication styles(D) The production of speech2.
