And the water-beetles always swam behind him. He was very happy there. One day, while he was catching flies, a pretty dragon-fly passed by. ‗You are a very fine frog,‘ she sang, ‗but why don‘t you live in a bigger pond? Come to my pond. You‘ll find a lot of frogs there. You‘ll meet some fine fish, and you‘ll see the dangerous ducks. And you must see our lovely water-lilies. They know that the best way to read a text book is to look at the questions at the end of the chapter and then skim the text for the answers.Teaching to the test is a curious phenomenon. Instead of deciding what skills students ought to learn, helping students learn them, and then using some sensible methods of assessment to discover whether students have mastered the skills, teachers are encouraged to reverse the process. First one looks at a test. Then one chooses the skills needed not to master reading, but to do well in the test. Finally, the test skills are taught. The ability to read or write or calculate might imply the ability to do reasonably well on standardized tests. However, neither reading nor writing develops simply through being taught to take tests. We must be careful to avoid mistaking preparation for a test of a skill with the acquisition of that skill. Too many discussions of basic skills make this misunderstanding because people are only interested in the test rather than concerned with the nature and quality of what is taught.13. Which of the following is true according to the passage? (D)14. What is the direct result of so many tests filli ng children‘s school work?(B)15. What is the danger of attaching unnecessary importance to testing? (B)高考英语听力模拟练习:Section ADirections: In Section A, you will hear ten short conversations between two speakers. The passages will be read twice, but the questions will be spoken only once. When you hear a question, read the four possible answers on your paper and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard.Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passage.Pace refers to how fast or how slow you speak. If you speak too fast, you may be difficult to follow. If you speak too slowly, you risk losing the attention of your audience. If audience attention seems to be drifting away, try picking up your pace. Usually you don‘tknow that you have been going too fast until someone tells you so after your speech is over. If you are told this, guard against this mistake in the future. In your next speech write reminders on your note cards to slow down.Ideally the speaker varies his or her pace. Speaking fast and then slowing down helps keep the attention of the audience. Also, don‘t forget the benefits of pausing. A pause before or after a dramatic moment is a highly effective technique. The next time you are watching a comedian on television, watch how he or she uses pauses.11.What should you do if audience attention seems to be drifting away?(A)12.How do you avoid speaking too fast during a speech?(C)13.What‘s the benefit of pausing?(D)Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage.Teaching is supposed to be a professional activity requiring long and complicated training. However, teaching needs not be the province of a special group, nor forcing information into a supposedly empty head but guiding and assisting. If you have a certain skill you should be able to share it with someone. All of us, from the youngest child to the oldest member of our society, should come to realize our own potential as teachers. We can share what we know, however little it might be, with someone who has need of that knowledge or skill.14.What is teaching?(B)15.Which statement is right?(C)16.What is the purpose of writing this passage?(D)Section CDirections: In Section C, you will hear two longer conversations. The conversations will be read twice. After you hear each conversation, you are required to fill in the numbered blanks with the information you have heard. Write your answers on your answer sheet.Blanks 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation.M: Why did your parents make you stay at home yesterday evening, Mary?W: They wanted to go out, and so they made me look after my baby sister.M: Didn‘t you mind doing it?W: No, I didn‘t. The passages will be read twice, but the questions will be spoken only once. When you hear a question, read the four possible answers on your paper and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard.Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passageMan is slowly changing all the time. What will man be like in the future——in 5000 or even 50,000 years from now?Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches taller. Five hundred years is relatively short period of time, so we may assume that man will continue to grow taller. Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so, we still make use of only about 20% of the brain’s capacity. As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more, and eventually we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change to the head, and the forehead in particular, will grow larger.Nowadays our eyes are in constant use. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over very long period of time it is likely that man’s eyes will grow stronger. On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life. But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a usefulpurpose any longer. In the future, then, both sexes are likely to be bald.In spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with us. He will still be a human being, with thoughts and emotions similar to our own.Questions:11. Why will there be the change of future man’s forehead size?12. Which of the following is true about a human being in the future?13. What is the main idea of the passage?Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passageBurn rate is the speed at which a startup business consumes money. I started my firm with $80,000 amonth. Four months after my home-design company was set up, I had only a quarter of the starting capital left in the bank. Later on, I realized that times of great change always bring out the risk takers.People spend a lot more time online looking for information. So my traditional way to offer solution in an office is out of fashion. I didn’t turn away from my specialized field entirely, but instead linked it to the Internet. My new plan was to offer consumers descriptions of home-design products by using a special software and let them modify the designs. Then we can enable them to get online professional and constructional help to have their houses built, decorated and furnished according to their own choice. To realize my plan I needed investors, so 1 continued to meet regularly with venture capitalists. But they constantly turned down my request. However, I was working nonstop—struggling to turn the key in the lock, to find the right way ahead. The pressure was terrible. It was just at this time that my parents and sisters stepped up. Two hundred thousand dollars. A lot of money to them, invested in this crazy son and brother without a moment's hesitation. Dad and Mom had driven out from Chicago and seen the passion in my little office and the trouble at home. With their help my company survived and has been prospering ever since. Questions:14. How much money was left four months after the foundation of the company?15. Which of the following was not the solution after the speaker figured out the cause of the failure?16. Who finally gave the speaker fund to help his company survive?Section CDirections: In Section C, you will hear two longer conversations. The conversations will be read twice. After you hear each conversation, you are required to fill in the numbered blanks with the information you have heard. Write your answers on your answer sheet. Blanks 17 through 20 are based on the following conversation.W: Good morning, sir.M: Good morning. What can I do for you?W: I’ve lost my handbag.M: Do you remember where you lost it?W: I remember my friend picked me up at about 10:00 inthe morning at the hotel to go to the shopping centre. We spent two hours there.M: Then you may have lost it there?W: No, because at noon we went to a nearby restaurant, and I paid the bill.M: What color is your handbag?W: Black, but the zipper is golden.M: What’s inside it?W: A red purse and a letter from my parents. My passport is also in it. What Shall I do? M: Don’t worry. We’ll do our best to help you. Here’s a form—write down your name, address and telephone number on it. We’ll call you if we get any information.Blanks 21 through 24 are based on the following conversation.W: Hello, Tony. Do you have time to look at my business plan?M: Of course! So what do you have here?W: I’ve been trying to come up with some new production methods and advertisements. If we want to stay competitive, we need to modernize our factory.M: How much will that cost?W: Anywhere from three hundred thousand dollars up to half a million.M: OK. We’ll have to discuss these costs with the finance department. What about advertising?W: Marketing department has some interesting ideas for television commercials.M: TV? Isn’t that a bit too expensive for us? What’s wrong with advertising in the papers, as usual?W: Quite frankly, it’s just not enough anymore. We need to be more aggressive in order to keep ahead of our competitors.M: Will we be able to afford all this?W: I’ll look into it, but I think the higher costs will prove worthwhile. These investments will result in higher profits for our company.M: OK, but we’ll have to look at the figures more closely.B3-4 语法模拟练习(一)(A) 1. everything 2. less often 3. stamped 4. when 5. was reading 6. whose7. is filled/has been filled 8. will not lose(B) 9. coming 10. explore 11. whether 12. was founded 13. to create14. an 15. The passages will be read twice, but the questions will be spoken only once. When you hear a question, read the four possible answers on your paper and decide which one would be the best answer to the question you have heard.Questions 11 through 13 are based on the following passage. When young women who smoke start to think about having children, they also need to think about quitting smoking. This will be better for her own health and for that of her baby.If a woman smokes during pregnancy she takes a big chance with her baby's health. There is a greater possibility that she will lose the baby during pregnancy. The baby could also be born too early, before the lungs are ready, so he or she will suffer breathing problems and lung disease later in life.Researches shows that babies often weigh less when the mother smokes. And a baby that weighs too little is often sick with lots of health problems. Smaller babies are more likely to need special care and stay longer in the hospital. Some may die either at birth or within the first year.Another recent study finds that children are more likely to develop lung cancer if their mothers smoke. The study also shows that the danger of lung cancer increase only for sons and not for daughters, and that the father's smoking does not affect a child's chance of developing lung cancer.Questions:11. What’s the main purpose of the passage?12. What's the bad effect of smoking for women in pregnancy?13. Who is most likely to develop lung cancer?Questions 14 through 16 are based on the following passage. This is the VOA Special English Education Report.A few weeks ago, we talked about the Test of English as a Foreign Language, or TOEFL. A listener asks if American colleges and universities also accept the IELTS exam. IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. The test measures true-to-life ability to communicate in English for education, immigration or employment. The IELTS tests listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. The test is used by government agencies, schools and professional organizations in one hundred and twenty countries. And, yes, that includes the United States. The many American schools that accept the IELTS can be found on the Web at .Some schools accept both the TOEFL and the IELTS. But the graduate school at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, for example, says it prefers the IELTS.The listening and speaking parts are the same for everyone who takes the IELTS. But people have a choice of reading and writing tests -- either academic or general training. The listening test takes thirty minutes. There are forty questions based on a recording. The reading test takes sixty minutes. Students answer forty questions based on three written passages. The writing test also takes sixty minutes. Students have to write two essays. The shorter one is a description of something; the longer one has to support an argument. The speaking test takes less than fifteen minutes. The score is based on a recorded talk between the student and a test examiner. And that's the VOA Special English Education Report.Questions:14. Which of the following items is not included in the IELTS?15. What does the longer essay require the students to do?16. What is the report news mainly about?Section CDirections: In Section C, you will hear two longer conversations. The conversations will be read twice. After you hear each conversation, you are required to fill in the numbered blanks with the information you have heard. Write your answers on your answer sheet. While social media can have some positive effects, such as connecting with friends and sharing information, it also has negative impacts on teenagers' mental health andwell-being.One of the main negative effects of social media is increased feelings of loneliness and isolation. But in a modern society, people are more interested in its quality and varieties. Many people like vegetables most because they are rich in nutrients, without which humans can’t live. Outside the greenhouse, the temperature is below zero, but inside it, you can smell the fragrance of various vegetables.Computers play an important role in this greenhouse. It adjusts the nutrients to their best levels to allow lettuces to grow healthily. In recent years, astronauts have taken with them some plant seeds to space. When the seeds return to earth, they are not the same ones as before. They have become space seeds because the special conditions of space have changed them. The gourds grown from space seeds have different shapes: some are long and some round, and they are larger than native ones. The space eggplants have the size of a football, much larger than ordinary eggplants. The space grapes are larger and taste sweeter than ordinary ones.11. Why have many vegetable farms sprung up?12. 上海中学生英文报(ssp)高考版寒假特刊1月答案(除听力
部分,有作文范文)
As vividly shown in the picture, we can clearly find that the boy is so absorbed in chatting on the Internet while his mother was standing behind. Obviously, his mother wanted to talk to his son but unexpectedly, what she got as a response from her son was “ can’t talk now. I am chatting.” In fact, what the picture conveys here is far from what a web user is doing in his virtual world. Instead, it reveals thought-provoking phenomenon.
However, we have to admit such a phenomenon is quite familiar to us. It can be understandable that online chatting, as a new communicative way, has become more and more popular, especially with us youngsters. Taking me as an example, I used to be sitting in front of the computer day and night, typing, playing games or chatting. You know what happened ? It was not only a waste of time but also caused me to pay less and less attention to people and things around. As a result, I neglected my study and gave up much social communication which is essential for mental health.
Of course now I realized we should take a positive attitude towards the Internet so as not to be addicted to it. We should try to reduce the negative effect to the minimum and make online chatting our valuable assistant. We should interact with our parents frequently to narrow the generation gap. Just imagine if we become too dependent on chatting on the Internet, it may, in the long run, give rise to more serious social problems.
As we all know, Shanghai World Expo is bring great benefits to China. Millions of guests from home and abroad visited Shanghai. We showed the significant development in science and
technology of Shanghai and many beautiful tourist attractions to the whole world.
However, some phenomenons are arousing our attention at the same time. Some people who are not disabled are sitting in wheel-chairs. Baby strollers for babies were filled with young kids. We have also found that several people followed the same old man going through the Green entry and some others didn’t follow the right way of U-tern aisles and they jumped the queue instead, just for their convenience and benefits.
It is widely accepted that these behaviors are not right. On the surface of these phenomena, they left a bad impression on the visitors, but at the second thought, they provided a valuable opportunity for us Chinese to find out the bad habits of ourselves. Still more importantly, we also learnt that civilization is the key to making a harmonious city rather than science and technology.
All in all, we should lay emphasis on our behaviors and perfect our personality. Then we will show a harmonious society to the whole world.。
