Teaching objectives:

1. Knowledge objectives:

By the end of the class, students will be able to

① get familiar with the new words and expressions about festivals;

New words: Halloween, Christmas, Dragon Boat Festival,

Mid-Autumn Festival, Thanksgiving Day, Chinese New Year……

Useful phrases and expressions: celebrate, ghost, festival, interesting, Monkey King, guess, dress up as, How about…? at Christmas, on that day……

What is your favourite festival?

Why do you like it?......

②express some Chinese and Western famous festivals in English and know about the ways of celebrating them.

2. Ability objectives:

By the end of the class, students will be able to

① put those new-learned vocabulary and expressions into practical use and make up their own dialogues about festivals;

②make their own posters about their favourite festivals.

3. Moral education:

① To enable students to find interest in talking about festivals;

②To arouse students’ consciousness of cultural differences.

三、学习者分析

学生对本课有关节日及其庆祝活动的话题很感兴趣,充满求知热情,但是本课大量的词汇及句型无疑给学生的学习增添了不小的困难。尤其是最后一个环节难度最大,要求学生能把新学会的词汇句型连成文章并汇报出来,这一点极具挑战性。
