第三部分:阅读理解(共20小题,每小题2分,满分40分)
A
Is there really a short cut to a good master of a foreign language? Hard to say , but the best way of learning a language is using it. The best way of learning English is talking in English as much as possible. Sometimes you'll get your words mixed up (混合) and people will not understand you. Sometimes people will say things too quickly and you can't understand them. But if you keep your sense of humor, you can always have a good laugh at the mistakes you make. Don't be unhappy if people seem to be laughing at your mistakes. It's better for people to laugh at your mistakes than to be angry with you, because they don't understand what you are saying. The most
important thing for learning English is: "Don't be afraid of making mistakes because everyone makes mistakes."
56. The writer thinks that the most important thing for you to learn a language is___________.

Here is a chance to know America better. There are more than 250,000 rivers in the United States. Added up together, they flow for more than 5,500,000 kilometers.
The largest and most famous river in the United States is the Mississippi. It starts near the northern border of the United States and flows through the center of the country for more than 3,700 kilometers. About 250 smaller rivers flow into the Mississippi. The mouth of the Mississippi empties into the Gulf of Mexico.
However, the Missouri River is the longest river in the United States. It flows for about 4,000 kilometers. It begins in the Rocky Mountains of North America. It flows along the borders of seven states before it empties into the Mississippi River near the city of Saint Louis, Missouri.
Three rivers that join together in the north central state of Montana form the Missouri River. The water is clear there. But, as it moves east and south, the Missouri River turns brown as it collects huge amounts of dirt from the land. That is why many people call the Missouri River the “Big Muddy”.
Some people say the Columbia River in the northwest is the most beautiful river in America. It flows from the Canadian province of British Columbia into the United States through the state of Washington. The Columbia River is the largest river that empties into the Pacific Ocean.
Another famous river is the Rio Grande. It is the longest
river in the state of Texas. It forms the border between Texas and Mexico.
The oldest river in the United States is the New River. It begins in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina and flows north through parts of Virginia and West Virginia. The New River may be also the second oldest in the world. It is funny how something so old can be called new.
59. From Paragraph 4 we know that the water in the upper reaches of the Missouri River is ________.

D. brown

Do you care about your surroundings? 1970 was “World Conservation Year”. The United Nations wanted everyone to know that the world was in danger. They hoped that the governments would act quickly in order to conserve nature. Here is one example of the problem. At one time there were 1300 different plants, trees and flowers in Holland, but now only 860 remain. The others have been destroyed by modern man and his technology. We are changing the earth, the air and the water, and everything that grows and lives. We can’t live without these things. If we continue like this, we shall destroy ourselves.
What will happen in the future? Perhaps it is more important to ask “What must we do now?” The people who will be living in the world of tomorrow are the young of today. A lot of them know that conservation is necessary. Many are hoping to save our world. They plant trees, build bridges across rivers in forests and so on. In a small town in the United States a large group of girls cleaned the banks of eleven kilometers of their river. Young people may hear about conservation through a record called “No, One’s Going to Change our World.” It was made by Scatles, Cliff Richard and other singers. The money
from it will help to conserve wild animals.

In the 1960s, medical researchers Thomas Holmes and Richard Rahe developed a checklist of stressful events. They appreciated the tricky point that any major change can be stressful. Bad events like "serious illness of a family member" were high on the list, but so were some helpful life-changing events like marriage.
When you take the Holmes-Rahe test you must remember that the score does not show how you deal with stress ---it only shows how much you have to deal with. And we now know that the way you deal with these events dramatically (戏剧性的) affects your chances of staying healthy. By the early 1970s, hundreds of similar studies had followed Holmes and Rahe. And millions of Americans who work and live under stress worried over the reports. Somehow the research got boiled down to a memorable message. Women's magazines ran titles like "Stress causes illness".
If you want to stay physically and mentally healthy the articles said avoid stressful events. But such simplistic advice is impossible to follow. Even if stressful events are dangerous, many —like the death of a loved one —are impossible to avoid. Moreover, any warning to avoid all stressful events is a prescription (处方) for staying away from chances as well as trouble. Since any change can be stressful, a person who wanted to be completely free of stress would never marry, have a child, take a new job or move. The idea that all stress makes you sick also takes no notice of a lot of what we know about people. It supposes we’re not active in the face of the difficult situation. But what about human ability and creativity? Many come through periods of stress with more physical and mental strength than they had before. We also know that a long time without change or challenge can lead to boredom and physical and mental pressure.
67. The result of Holmes-Rahe’s medical research tells us _________________.

69. The score of the Holmes-Rahe test shows ________________.
A. how you can deal with life-changing events
B. how helpful events can change your life
C. how stressful a major event can be
D. how much pressure you are unde
70. Why is “such simplistic advice” impossible to follow according to the author?
A. No one can stay on the same job for long.
B. No prescription is effective in reducing stress.

71. According to the passage people who have experienced ups and downs may become _______.

People say that a mother’s love knows no boundaries. This is true when it comes to my mother. She has given up many things so that my sisters and I could live a better life.
My mother comes from a large family and her parents died when she was quite young. She dropped out of school when she was fifteen because no one could afford to pay her studies. At the age of 19, she married my father and when they had my sisters and I, they moved to the United States so that we could have a better life. My parents did not know English but somehow they communicated with other people. My mother stayed at home and raised us while my father was working. There were so many dangerous incidents that happened where we lived that my mother finally decided that we all moved to Texas when I was seven. My mother has worked so hard to give us everything. She always tells us that all she wants is for us to be happy. As the saying goes, “You don’t appreciate something until it’s gone.” Well, I finally had a chance to experience it. My mother went to Mexico this winter because she needed to have an operation. For the first time in my life, my mother was not there to hold and comfort me. Those two weeks when she was away made me realize how much I love her. All she has done for me
is incredible. When I suffer she suffers with me. I have to show her how much I care about her. She means the world to me.

第四部分:写作(共两节,满分35分)
第一节阅读表达 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) When it comes to food, there is no shortage of questions about how to get the most nutrients of the food we eat. Nowadays, many questions arise as we consider the effect of new technology on the quality of our food. Read on to find out how technology is affecting what you eat.
Is microwaving food a good way to heat up food? Studies say—NO! Some important nutrients in vegetables can be destroyed when we microwave food.
Broccoli, when micro-waved, loses 97 percent of its cancer-protecting antioxidants, compared to steamed broccoli, which loses 11 percent. Freezing is a way of maintaining water levels and temporarily stopping the growth of micro-organisms and bacteria.
In general, freezing food doesn’t lose nutrients if you freeze the food when it is at peak quality. It is only when food is stored and sits for a long period of time that it starts to lose nutrients, especially vitamin C. In general, when you dry a food, you take the water out. You don’t necessarily destroy the nutrients, although in fruits, certain vitamins can be easily destroyed. That is why fruits are generally better fresh. Dried foods nearly contain the same amount of nutrients as that in fresh foods, though you end up eating a lot of dried foods rather than fresh foods.
One of the biggest complaints about organic foods is that they are more expensive than commercially grown produce. So why spend more? When you are saving in money now on commercial produce, you will surely lose in health later. Many scientific studies have shown the negative effects of pesticides used on commercial crops. The primary reason for buying organic foods is that you can get healthy foods that aren’t covered in dangerous chemicals. Here I just want to say technology should help people eat more healthy food rather than offer more junk food.
