Unit 5 Why do you like pandas?
Period 1 Section A 1a-1c
I. Teaching aims and demands:
1. Aims of knowledge
Key vocabulary: tiger, elephant, koalas, dolphin, smart, cute, clever Target language: Why do you want to see the lions?
Why do you like lions?
Be cause they’re cute/interesting…
2.Aims of abilities
To train students’ listening and speaking skills.
3 Aims of emotion and evaluation
To raise interest of knowing about different kinds of animals and love and protect them.
II. Teaching key points:
Learn how to say which animals we like and tell why we like them. III. Teaching difficult points:
Learn how to describe our favorite animals using correct description words.
IV. Teaching methods:
Audio-lingual methods
V. Teaching aids:
A tape recorder; a computer for multimedia use
VI. Teaching steps:
Step 1. Leading in
Play a song. Ask Ss to name as many animals as they can in English. (Revise the words about animals)
Step 2 Presentation
1. Teach new words using some pictures.
2. Play a game.( Practice the key words.)
3. Ask Ss to match each word with one of the pictures. (1a)
(This activity consolidates the key vocabulary.)
Step 3 Listening (1b)
Play recordings of three conversations. Ask Ss to listen carefully as they look at the words in 1a. Put a checkmark in front of the name of each animal they hear. Then check the answers.
(This activity gives Ss practice in understanding the target language in spoken conversation.)
Step 4 Pair work (1c)
1.Call attention to the example conversation on the blackboard.
2.Ask two Ss to read it to the class.
3.Ask Ss to make conversations about animals with their partner
according to the pictures. Have them take turns saying both parts. (This activity provides guided oral practice using the target language.)
Step 5 Group work
1.Play a video about animals from the most popular TV show ” Dad,
where are we going?”
2.Ask them to discuss in groups to answer the questions.
Step 6 Emotion and evaluation
Show some pictures, then ask Ss to think about them. Let them know: Animals are our friends. We live in the same small world. To Love animals is to love ourselves.
(Teach the students to love and protect animals.)
Step 7 Summary
Why do you want to see the pandas/tigers/elephants/koalas/giraffes? Because they are cute/lazy/smart/beautiful/fun/interesting. (Summarize what they learn in this period; help them to remember the knowledge well.)
Step 8 Homework
1. Remember the new words.
2.Practice the conversations with your classmates.
