The survey of 6,099 people commissioned by LV, a charity that educates children about safety, showed that nearly a quarter of children aged 15 or under were not allowed to sleep at a friend's house, 60 percent were forbidden to travel on public transport alone and 43 percent couldn't go to the park without a parent or guardian(监护人).
It said more than 60 percent of mums and dads think the world is more dangerous than when they were kids. "It's

On average, children today can look forward to walking to school on their own by the age of 11, use public transport on their own at 12,and babysit their brother or sister by the time they're 14.

Parents know they are being tougher on their children and over a third said they felt uneasy that their kids do not get the same opportunities as they did to experience freedom as a youngster.

work in Britain. Red Nose Day (RND) is a well-known event in the UK. The aim of the day is to raise money for a charity called Comic Relief which helps people in need in Africa and in the UK.
Comic Relief was started in 1985 by Richard Curtis. He wrote the series “Blackadder” as well as the famous films
“Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “Notting Hill’’. Richard’s idea to start Comic Relief was as a response to the severe lack of food in Ethiopia. It’s called Red Nose Day as on this day many people buy a plastic red nose to wear! The money made from selling red noses goes to the charity.
Red Nose Day takes place every two years in the spring and is now so well developed that many people consider it to be an unofficial national holiday. For example, many schools have non-uniform days.
The slogan for the last RND was “Do Something Funny for Money” and the money collected was used to help fund projects in the following areas: treating malaria, education, maternal health and mental health. The BBC Red Nose Day telethon raised £ 74.3 million! Money-raising events take place all over the country and many schools join in. 23.(8分)Tim Ma's parents came to the United States from Taiwan in the 1970s. They opened a restaurant. It
was not a success. They found success in America, however, in computers and engineering. In part because of their own experiences, Ma's parents hoped he would study to become an engineer or doctor. They wanted financial security for their child.
Growing up, Ma considered many professions – wri ter, fireman, even president. But he had a sense early on... ―I didn't want to be an engineer. However, Ma did well in math and science classes in high school and he ended up choosing to study electrical engineering in college.
Several engineering jobs later, though, Ma had a change of heart. He wanted to leave the engineering world behind and enter the restaurant business. It was in his blood. After all, his parents had owned a Chinese restaurant in Arkansas. His uncle also owned one in New York.
His parents, Ma says, could not understand why he would want to leave such a good job to open a restaurant. They had worked long hours but their own restaurant still failed. They kept asking, ―Why?
But Ma remained certain. He was going to do things differently than his parents. He was able to learn from their one major mistake as restaurant owners – they knew very little about the art of cooking. So, at age 30, Ma left engineering and returned to school – cooking school.
Ma soon learned that he enjoyed cooking. In 2009, Ma opened his first restaurant in Virginia. It is called Maple Avenue. At Maple Avenue, Ma cooked, cleaned the ovens, fixed equipment and paid bills. He worked long hours, seven days a week. His long hours paid off. Ma opened his fourth restaurant last year, Kyirisan in Washington, D.C.Kyirisan's success is due to the creative menu and food, Ma says. But mostly it just comes from completely hard work. ―I think in this country you can create your own success, just by working hard. Not because you're s marter than anybody, not because you're more creative than anybody, just by working hard. And I think that's why a lot of people end up coming to America.
1、Why did Ma’s parents want him to become an engineer or doctor?

C.They can choose jobs freely. D.They can succeed through hard work.
3、What can be the best title for the text?
A.A suitable job B.Follow your heart
C.A successful business D.Create your own business
24.(8分)We’ve heard of robots and AI(Artificial Intelligence)taking human jobs, but I bet mayors(市长)don’t really think their jobs can be threatened any time soon. They were wrong, and the AI running for the mayor of a Tokyo district was clear proof of that.
AI can’t legally run for high-ranking public management positions yet, but one mayoral candidate from Tama City, Tokyo, intended to maximize the use of artificial intelligence in running city affairs. He was running his campaign (竞选运动)as “AI Mayor”. Bas ically, he was suggesting replacing human public officials with AI and having them collect city data and create fair and balanced policies that will benefit everyone.
“For the first time in the world, AI will run in an election,” human candidate Michihito Matsuda announced on Twitter. “Artificial Intelligence will change Toma City. With the birth of an AI Mayor, we will conduct balanced politics.”
The AI Mayor was campaigning very much like its human competitors. Posters were shown all over Tama City and campaign trucks were blaring out(大声鸣响)promises of an AI utopia (乌托邦)and asking for support.
Some people called Michihito Matsuda’s campaign a stunt (噱头), as a human would still be the one legally in charge. However, others said that they were excited about the future of AI running things in the background, adding that it had to be a better choice.
1、What’s the advantage of the AI mayor according to Michihito Matsuda?
A.Maximizing the use of AI. B.Replacing human officials.
C.Creating balanced policies. D.Bringing him beneficial effects.

A.They believe AI will win. B.All consider it to be tricky.
C.It is supposed to be a failure definitely. D.Some think it’s worthy of expectation.

25.(10分)Barcelona's famous Segrada Familia is finally set to get a building licence, 137 years after work on
the still uncompleted church began.
Construction on the UNESCO World Heritage basilica(长方形基督教堂), which is Barcelona's most visited tourist attraction, began in 1882 based on a design by architect Francisco Lozano. However, when he stepped down, architect Antoni Gaudi took over the design in 1883. The building won't be finished until 2026-one hundred years after the architect was killed by a streetcar in the city. His body was buried in a room under the floor of the Sagrada Familia.
To get its paperwork rubber stamped, the church authorities have agreed to finally pay the government a∈36 million fee for a building permit. Gaudi was told to get the paperwork processed, but the architect failed to do so—proceeding with construction regardless. The money from the church's permit will be used to upgrade transport links and beautify the area. Gaudi and his works have become symbols of Barcelona, the capital city of Catalonia, northeast Spain.
Gaudi played an active role in directing the construction of the Sagrada Familia until his death in 1926. He would often request that work be modified and adjusted until it was exactly what he had in mind. However, interpretation of the designs by present day architects is particularly challenging because of the nature of the existing designs.
The unfinished building is called a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and it is perhaps the most unique and mysterious building in the style ever constructed. The popularity of the site with tourists has helped fund the push to complete the church and pay for the paperwork.
1、What do we know about the Segrada Familia?
A.It has been completely constructed.
B.It was first designed by Antoni Gaudi.
C.It will get a building permit in 2026.
D.It began to be built 137 years ago.
2、What can we infer about Antoni Gaudi?
A.He wished to be buried in the church
B.He is remembered as a great architect.
C.He didn't know a permit was necessary.
D.He is to blame for the unfinished church.
3、What makes the Segrada Familia so popular?
A.Its unusual design style
B.Its two famous architects.
C.Its special building materials.
D.Its illegal construction paperwork
4、The church managed to pay for the licence ________.
A.in the support of the government
B.by reducing construction costs
C.with the aid of tourist income
D.through donations from architects
