Teaching aids:

Part 3. Students learning strategies:
Part 4. Teaching steps:
In order to achieve the teaching aims, to help Ss to comprehend the text, solve problems and complete different tasks, I have designed the following steps.
The entire steps: Greetings, Lead-in and preparation for reading, Fast reading(skimming), Listening, Careful reading (scanning), Reading for details, Consolidation, Discussion, Assessment and Homework.
Pre-reading:
Step 1. Greetings. I will greet the whole class as usual.
Step 2. Lead-in and preparation for reading.
First Introduce the topic of this lesson to the students. I will tell them:
There are different theories of the beginning of the world. And Show them some pictures of different concepts of the “beginning” on the screen. ( Show the Pan Gu and the Creation).
Now I point at the pictures and get the students to tell the general ideas of them.
Watch a video: Then I play a video about the topic for the students and ask them to bare these questions in mind.( questions are chosen according to the students’ level )
---Tell me what impressed you most after you have watched the video?
---What is the most important thing for all types of life on the earth?
---How many types of life on the earth have you seen in the video?
Students will tell everything they have seen in the video. (At this time it’s a good chance to present some new words on the blackboard and a general picture of the topic of this lesson.)
With the task, I make my students in a relaxed and happy atmosphere, arouse the students’ interest of study and warm up their thinking.
While-reading:
Step 1. Skimming (Ss: Individual work in this step)
Students are given 2 minutes to read the passage as quickly as they can. Tell students that the topic sentence often lies at the beginning of the paragraph or at the end of the paragraph. Sometimes lies in the middle.
Thinking of the students’ level, after the Ss’ discussion, I will show the main idea for each paragraph in a wrong order on the screen, then let the students to match them.
Purpose: This step is to direct students to use skills and strategies to get the general idea of the passage in the shortest time and cultivate students’ good reading habit and fast reading ability.
Step 2. Scanning (Ss: Pair work in this step)
Ss are encourage d to read the passage carefully again, exchange their understanding of the passage with their group members and work together to finish the task-try to get the Order of the development of the text.
The following sentences will be printed on small pieces of paper and given to the students. The students are required to put the pieces into the correct order according to the text. With the task Ss understand the text further to get the development of the text.
Step 3. Reading for details (class work)
I will encourage my Ss to answer some comprehension questions. The questions are not difficult, their answers can be found in text.
---Why was the earth different from the other planets?
---What made it possible for life to begin to develop?
---What are the differences between reptiles and mammals?
---How did dinosaurs disappear? Are there any widely accepted theories?
---Who are not taking care of the earth?
Purpose: Further understand the text to find out some different sentences and details of the text. post-reading:
Step 1. Listening(book closed)
Ss are required to close their books, listen to the tape carefully and pay attention to their intonation and pronunciation.
Purpose: Train the Ss’ listening ability.
Step 2. Consolidation (Group work and present dubbing)
I give the students a piece of paper with the snapshots of the video to help them organize their notes into a script for the video.
Students work in groups and prepare a script for the video. They may use the material they just used and are encouraged to add creative ideas.
I choose 2 groups to present their work with the video together. (If time permits, ask more groups to do it.)
With the task, I want to know if my students understand the whole text really and if they master what I mean to tell them in this class. I want to let them have the ability of introducing and analyzing expressions.
Step 3. Discussion(Ss read between the lines.)
In the end of the text, the writer has raised a question for us.
I write them on the blackboard:
1.Can this problem be solved?
2.What can we do to deal with this problem caused by human beings?
èStudents discuss this problem in groups and list the answers they think.
After 2 minutes’ discussion, students share their ideas with the whole class.
I gives the conclusion: (Present in noun clauses as a hint for the grammar of this unit)
Purpose: I mean to give them emotional education and develop Ss’ creative thinking and as well as their ability to manipulate and use the target language. Everyone should do something to create a better future for the earth and the mankind.
Step 4. Assessment
Get students to assess themselves and assess their group members.
Assessment is very helpful to improve their learning attitude. Little Success will bring Ss self-confidence and arouse their interest of learning English.
Step 5 Homework
Homework is the extending of the class, I design different tasks for different students to consolidate the teaching content, to meet for the need of different Ss’ level and interest.。
