My Big English Test Adventure!
Hi! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 6th grade student in Chengdu. This year I had to take a huge English test as part of the zhongkao (middle school entrance exam). It was really hard
but also kind of fun and exciting. Let me tell you all about my big English test adventure!
The first part was listening comprehension. We had to listen to recordings and answer multiple choice questions. One story was about a girl named Mary and her pet dog Rufus. Mary's mom didn't want her to keep Rufus at first because he was messy. But then Rufus saved Mary's little brother from getting hit by a car, so Mary's mom let her keep him as a reward. I got most of those questions right.
Another listening was about two friends arguing over what movie to watch. One wanted to see an action movie with his favorite actor Jackie Chan. But the other friend wanted to watch a comedy instead. In the end they compromised and watched a funny kung-fu movie! Speaking of movies, my favorite is The Lion King. What's your favorite movie?
Next up was the reading section. We had to read some passages and answer comprehension questions about them. One story was about a boy who went camping with his family in the mountains. He was scared of bears at first, but then he learned how to properly store food and make noise so bears stay away.
There was also a funny story about a girl who was really bad at cooking. She tried to make pancakes for breakfast, but they came out like rubber hockey pucks! Her dad joked that they could use them to play street hockey. Her mom insisted she take a cooking class. I felt bad for laughing at that one!
The writing part was hard. We had to write a short essay about our favorite teacher and what makes them a great teacher.
I wrote about my English teacher, Mrs. Wang. She is always so patient when we ask questions and never makes us feel silly. She also tells lots of jokes to make class fun. Plus she gives us creative projects instead of just bookwork.
What did you think was the hardest part of the test? For me it was probably the grammar section. We had to identify parts of speech, correct errors, and stuff like that. One question asked us to fix the sentence "I buyed two pencils at store yesterday." Ugh, that hurt my brain! The verb "buy" is so irregular.
But my favorite part was the vocabulary. We had to pick synonyms, antonyms, define words based on context, and even some word roots/prefixes/suffixes. There was one word I didn't know at all - "ephemeral". It means temporary or lasting a very short time. Like the ephemeral sugar rush you get from eating too much candy!
Well, that was my big English test tale. After it was over, my brain felt like a wet noodle! I really hope I did well enough to get into a good middle school. My parents would be so proud of me. Keeping my fingers crossed until scores come out!

Hi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 6th grader at an elementary school in Chengdu. This year, I had to take the big middle school entrance exam, and let me tell you, it was no walk in the park! Especially the English part – ohh boy, that was really hard! But I studied super hard, so I think I did pretty well. Let me walk you through some of the questions and how I answered them.
The first part was listening comprehension. They played some audio clips and asked us questions about what we heard. One of the clips was about a kid talking about his summer
vacation. The question was "What did the boy do during his summer vacation?" I remember the options were:
A) Go to the beach
B) Visit his grandparents
C) Stay at home and play video games
D) Go camping with his family
I picked D because in the audio the boy mentioned going hiking and setting up tents in the mountains with his parents and little brother. Camping outdoors with family – that sounds like so much fun!
Then there was a reading passage about a girl named Emma and her pet dog Buddy. Emma's dad was thinking of getting rid of Buddy because he was chewing up everything in the house. But Emma convinced him to keep Buddy by promising to be more responsible. One of the questions was "What did Emma promise her dad?" And the options were:
A) To buy Buddy a new chew toy
B) To take Buddy on more walks
C) To feed Buddy on time every day
D) To keep Buddy away from furniture
I picked B because the passage said Emma promised to take Buddy for longer walks and play with him more so he wouldn't be bored and chew things up. My dog Puppy used to do that too when we didn't play with her enough!
The writing section was challenging. We had to write a short essay describing our favorite teacher and why we liked them. I wrote about my English teacher Ms. Wang. She's really nice and patient, and always finds fun ways to teach us new words and grammar points through games and songs. I also like how she encourages us to not be afraid of making mistakes when practicing English. I wrote that having a teacher like her makes me excited to learn English.
For the grammar part, there were questions testing different types of tenses, prepositions, articles, and more. One question was:

I picked D because it's using the simple past tense, which is correct since the homework was completed before the action of "going out to play."

I chose D because the phrase "like taking candy from a baby" means something that's extremely easy to do. So "effortless" was the right descriptor.
Whew, that test really gave my brain a workout! I'm just glad it's over now. Although English can be frustrating with all its weird rules and exceptions, I actually really enjoy learning it. Being able to understand and speak multiple languages opens up amazing opportunities. Who knows, maybe I'll grow up to be an English teacher too and pass on the joy of language learning!

My 2022 Chengdu Middle School Entrance English Exam Experience
Hi everyone! My name is Lily and I'm a sixth-grade student at Chengdu Elementary School. This year I took the super important English exam as part of the entrance exams to get into a great middle school here in Chengdu. I've been studying English since I was very little and I really love the language, so I was pretty excited and a little bit nervous to take this big test. Let me tell you all about my experience!
The exam was held over two days at my school. On the first day, we had the listening and reading comprehension sections. I've gotten pretty good at listening to English through watching movies and shows, but the listening part was still pretty tough. There were conversations between people talking about
everyday things like shopping, travel plans, schedules and so on.
I had to listen really carefully and fill in the blanks on the answer sheet. Phew, it made my brain tired just focusing that hard!
The reading part had passages about different topics like science, culture, sports and more. We had to read carefully and answer multiple choice questions showing we understood the main ideas, details and vocabulary from the passages. I tried circling key words and phrases as I read to help me find the answers. Yay, I knew a lot of the words which helped a ton!
Then the next day, we had to write two compositions for the writing section - one was writing advice for a situation, and the other was an imaginative story. I'll share my excellent model compositions with you!

great benefits. Let me give you some friendly advice as you begin your Tai Chi journey.
First of all, find a qualified teacher or class. Having an experienced instructor is so important, especially when you're first starting out. They can ensure you learn the proper stances, movements and breathing techniques the right way from the beginning. Don't try to learn just from videosalone!
Next, be prepared to start slow. Tai Chi focuses on smoothflow and control more than speed or power. The movements look deceptively simple, but take tons of body awareness and control. Master the basics before trying to rush ahead. Have patience with yourself as you're learning.
Another key is to wear comfortable, lightweight clothing that doesn't restrict your movement. Tai Chi involves slow, flowing motions with your arms and legs, so you'll need room to stretch and bend. Leave the jeans at home and opt for loose pants or shorts instead.

My Experience with the 2022 Chengdu Zhongkao English Test
Hi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 6th grader who just took the big English test for the 2022 Chengdu middle school entrance exam. It was pretty tough, but I tried my best. Let me tell you all about it!
The test had four parts - listening, reading, writing, and speaking. I was a little nervous at first, but my teacher said as long as I focused and didn't rush, I'd do great. First up was the listening part.
For listening, they played recordings and asked multiple choice questions about what we heard. Some of the recordings were conversations between people, while others were lectures or announcements. I had to listen really carefully to get the details right.
Here's an example listening question:

My Amazing Adventure
Hi everyone! My name is Lily, and I want to share with you my amazing adventure during the 2022 Chengdu Middle School Entrance Exam. It was a day full of surprises and challenges, but I did my best and had a lot of fun along the way.
The exam day started with me feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. I woke up early, had a good breakfast, and put on my lucky socks. My mom and dad wished me good luck and told me to believe in myself. With their words of encouragement, I felt ready to face whatever came my way.
The first part of the exam was English. I love English, so I was really eager to show off my skills. The reading comprehension part had a story about a brave little mouse named Max.
