第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
21.(6分)Crossing your legs is an extremely common habit; most people don’t even notice that they’re doing it when they sit down. While you may find it comfortable to sit with one knee crossed over the other, it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of.
A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. Actually, the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart. Crossing one leg
over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. This causes your body to increase your blood pressure to push the blood back to the heart.
Crossing your legs can also lead to neck and back pain. When you sit with your legs crossed your hips are in a twisted position, which can cause one of your pelvic bones to turn a bit. Since your pelvic bone supports your neck and spine, this can cause pressure on your lower and middle back and neck.
You also might notice that when you sit with your legs crossed for long periods of time your feet and legs have the feeling of being asleep. This is because when one leg sits on top of the other the veins and nerves in them are pressed, thus bringing about temporary paralysis in the legs, ankles, or feet. While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage.
So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet planted flat, hip width apart, on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.
1、Crossing your legs when you sit can lead to _________________.
A.permanent paralysis B.high blood pressure
C.leg numbness D.bone damage

22.(8分)If you make a list of the world’s top ten most challenging jobs, chances are that being a teacher will not make the cut. But think about the discouraging task millions of educators face each day as they try to shape a group of often bad-tempered, wild kids into intelligent, well-rounded individuals. That surely has to be the toughest job in the world, especially given that there is no promotion or bonus awaiting them even if they are wildly successful!
What if these all-important individuals that we often take for granted disappear from our lives? That was what Project Ed and Participant Media’s Teach campaign asked filmmakers of all ages to imagine in their recently-held competition. Entitled “A World Without Teachers”, its purpose was to inspire more young people to become teachers. However, the 62 amazing video submissions also serve as a reminder of how horrible things would be if we didn’t have these selfless individuals guiding us through life. What was interesting is that even the youngest participants did not appear to be happy at the idea of not having anybody telling them what to do.
High-school student Savannah Wakefield reflected if art as we know it today would have been different without
teachers. Would Monet have discovered his talent for impressionism? Los Angeles-based Miles Horst, who won the 1000 USD prize for the best adult submission imagines a world where teachers are replaced by a “brain box” in his fun lively entry.
Youth category winner Marina Barham’s video represents a fact we all know but often forget. Teachers don’t just teach, they inspire—something that no electronic device, no matter how smart, can do! So the next time you think your teacher is being “mean” for trying to channel you in the right direction, imagine a life without him/her. We have a feeling it will not appear as rosy!

23.(8分)What would it take to get you to put down your phone during a meal? Sarah’s Corner Cafe in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, is offering a deal for people who want to enjoy a meal, and each ot her, unplugged. They’ve set up so-called “family recharging stations” at tables where you drop your phone into a basket.
“They let the server know and the server will bring over a basket with old fashioned Hangman and Tic Tac Toe and
pencils because those games are interactive instead of coloring, which is solitary (孤单的),” owner Barry Lynch told ABC News. Once a family joins in the challenge, staff bring games to the table to encourage the family to interact and communicate with one another.
If families mak e it through the meal without looking at their phones, they’re rewarded 10 percent off their bill. “A lot of people are starting to do it and it’s taken on a life of its own,” said Lynch.
The idea for the “family recharging time” came to Lynch after observing many of his customers. “There’s one particular family I knew used to come in on Sunday for breakfast after church,” he recalled. “Every time I went over, one or two of the kids and sometimes the parents would be on the phone. I also knew the dad would go to New York for work every day, which takes a lot of time. I asked him about that and he said, ‘Yeah, I still do it. It’s so nice to be together and these breakfasts are rare.’ And when he said that, I thought, ‘Something is going on here. I need to do something.’”

After graduating from Latrobe High school, Rogers was admitted to Dartmouth College, where he studied for a year before transferring(转学) to Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Rogers, who’d beg un playing the piano at a
young age, graduated with high honour in 1951 with a degree in music composition.
During his senior year of college he visited his parents and was amazed by the family’s newest household addition: a television set. He could see a bright future for the medium and, as he’d later remembered, Rogers immediately decided he wanted to be a part of it.
Rogers’ first job in television came in 1953 when he was employed to work in programming by WQED in Pittsburgh, a recently launched community TV station that was the first of its kind in the country.
In the following year, he was co-producing a new program, The Children’s Corner. This allowed Rogers, who’d fallen in love with puppetry(木偶戏) as a child, to introduce some of his favourite puppets from his home to his young audience.
As his experience grew, so did his aspirations(抱负). He earned his divinity(神学) degree in 1962. After that Presbyterian Church asked him to serve children and families through television. Rogers made his first appearance the following year as Mister Rogers on a Canadian Broadcast System show called Misterogers. The program helped lay the foundation in its look and approach for Rogers’ later show.
Canada, however, was not where Rogers or his wife, Joanne, whom he’d met a t Rollins, wanted to raise their two young sons. Soon, the Rogers family was back in Pittsburgh, where Rogers launched Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood in 1996.

25.(10分)From Madrid to Buenos Aires to Panama City to Lisbon, President Xi Jinping has tirelessly promoted the building of a community of shared future for mankind, and the Belt and Road Initiative (倡议) as a means to achieve that.
But all don’t see it that way. While som e are quick to see its positive potentials, other countries insist on viewing it skeptically. There have been the usual doubts about the intention behind, although the mysterious threat they speak of is one they seem unable to explain clearly.
To some of t hem, it is a vague assumption that investments from China are potential “debt traps”that call for extreme caution or “threats to national security”. That is why the business combinations involving Chinese companies which would be mutually (相互地) beneficial have hit the rocks. The Chinese telecommunications technology giant Huawei, for instance, has found the doors to the 5G telecommunications markets of advanced countries closed to it on “national security” grounds. Likewise, the European Union has agreed on a framework regulating foreign investment (投资), particularly those from China. on the same account.
Even as Chinese and Portuguese leaders discuss bilateral (双边的) cooperation under the Belt and Road, there is no lack of concern about “China’s influence”, But existing EU rules do not forbid Lisbon from seeking such a partnership. If Lisbon sees no harm from foreign investment, no outsider is in a position to prevent it from making a choice in its own best interests.
Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa has reminded EU decision-makers of his country’s desire for foreign investment, and advised the latter to avoid taking “the path of protectionism”. It was a timely reminder.
Faring the challenges in today’s world, China and the countries that have embraced the Belt and Road are convinced it is the way to common development and the world’s lasting peace and stability.
1、Some countries that hold a negative attitude towards the Initiative mainly doubt its .
A.power B.mystery C.intention D.potential
2、What does the underlined part “hit the rocks” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.failed to work out B.become a hit
C.made a difference D.fallen into a trap
3、It can be learned from the passage that .
A.Huawei has caused serious security problems abroad
B.the EU will take relatively strict measures on Chinese investment
C.the Road and Belt Initiative has gained much popularity for “China’s influence”
D.China’s investment in Portugal has been extremely smooth
4、What is the author’s attitude towards Portuguese Prime Minister’s advice?
A.Negative. B.Positive. C.Doubtful. D.Unclear.
