另外,在2002年,Fiehn等提出代谢组学“metabolomics”是指对代谢组的全面分析,“metabonomics”应该属于代谢指纹分析更合适。2003年Sumner 等提出采用“metabolomics”一词描述对代谢物组的全面分析更为合适,并同时建议凡是利用计算机软件对结果进行模型识别而不是单个代谢产物进行区别的技术都应该称作代谢指纹分析,丽不是代谢组学或代谢物组学分析。
