Recently we talked with Diane Lucas of Scrapsfore v about scrapbooking (剪贴薄制作).
What is scrapbooking exactly?
When I make a scrapbook page, I take a few of my family photos and put them into a page that uses beautiful paper, stickers, drawings, and words to show the theme. For example, this page about my son is called “First Day at School”. Here's a photo of him and one of his drawings, and I decorated it with stickers. When you make a scrapbook, you can put words and pictures together to show the important times in your life. It's like a personal history.
How did you get started?
When I was a child, I always saved bits of paper, things like movie tickets and vacation postcards. I made my first scrapbook ten years ago, when my father died. When I looked through his desk, I found the most wonderful things — like my parents' anniversary (周年纪念) cards, and photos from his army days. I couldn't throw away anything, so I made two scrapbooks with my collections, for my brother and me.
Do you know other people who make scrapbooks?
Oh, yes! We call ourselves “scrappers”,and we often have “crops”,big parties where we all work on our scrapbooks. We bring our scissors and papers and our boxes of photos, and we talk while making new pages. It's a time for enjoyment, when friends show pictures and tell stories about our families, and our lives. At the same time, we create a book to keep those memories.
Why is scrapbooking so popular these days?
I think people want to record their family history, and show it to other people. When you make a scrapbook, you can pass the stories on to your children, and your grandchildren. So many people today want to do that! We all have boxes of pictures, and we all want to keep those memories. That's the real meaning of scrapbooking.

He lived his whole life as a poor man. His art and talent were recognized by almost no one.He suffered from a mental illness that led him to cut off part of his left ear in 1888 and to shoot himself two years later. But after his death, he achieved world fame. Today, Dutch artist Van Gogh is recognized as one of the leading artists of all time.

The museum draws around 1.3 million visitors every year. Some people enjoy the art and then learn about his life. Others are interested in his life, which then helps them understand his art.
Van Gogh was the son of a pastor. He left school when he was just 15.By the age of 27, he had already tried many jobs including an art gallery salesman and a French teacher. Finally in 1880, he decided to begin his studies in art.
Van Gogh is famed for his ability to put his own emotions (情感) into his paintings and show his feelings about a scene. His style is marked by short, broad brush strokes (绘画笔法).“Instead of trying to reproduce exactly what I have before my eyes, I use color more freely, in order to express myself more forcibly,” he wrote in a letter to his brother in 1888.
Van Gogh sold only one painting during his short life. He relied heavily on support from his brother, an art dealer who lived in Paris. But now his works are sold for millions of dollars. His portrait of Dr.Gacher sold for $ 89.5 million in 1990. It is the highest price ever paid for a painting. “I think his paintings are powerful and the brilliant color in them are attractive to people,” said a V an Gogh's fan.

Ⅴ.任务型阅读
Many people think that they have to accept whatever life throws at them. They'll say, “This is my fate. I cannot change it.”
1.You don't have to suffer needlessly. Your fate depends on you, not on any other outside factors.
We want to be happy and live our life to the fullest, but we have to do our share of making the effort to live the life of our dreams.
2.You just don't sit around and wait for a million dollars to fall from the sky. You have to get off the couch, get your eyes off the TV screen, get your hands off the phone (unless it contributes to your success), and get your mind and body to work. If your life is not meant the way you want it to be, don't just say “Our time will come.” or “3. ” Don't expect your luck to change, unless you do something about it. If something goes wrong, don' t just regard it as a temporary setback; but use it as feedback. Learn your lesson, make the most of the situation, and do something to solve the problem. It's not enough to think positive; you also have to act positive.
If someone's life is in trouble, do you just hope and pray that things will turn out fine? Of course not! 4.
So it is with your own life. It is not enough to hope for the best, but you have to do your best. In other words, don't just stand (or sit) there. 5.
A.I think so.
B.Of course not.
C.You'd better let it be.
D.Things will get better someday.
E.Do something to improve your life.
F.Remember that you harvest what you sow.
