Napoga is a 12-year old girl in Ghana, Africa. It is hard for her family to get clean water. Every morning, she leaves home at half past five to get clean water for her family in a village far away. It takes her six hours to get enough clean water for daily cooking and drinking. She has no time to go to school or to play with her friends. Millions of people in the world are like Napoga. They can’t get enough clean water to keep healthy.
Earth Day is April 22. But on all other days, we must also remember it. The water we use is the most important natural resource(自然资源)on the earth.
Water covers 70 percent of the earth’s surface(表面). But most of that is sea water. We can’t use it for many things. Freshwater covers only one percent of the earth’s surface.
You probably feel lucky that your life isn’t as hard as Napoga’s. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have to worry about water. We all face serious water problems. One of them is water pollution. All kinds of things from cars, factories, farms and homes make our rivers,
lakes, and oceans dirty. Polluted water is very bad for people to drink. And dirty water is bad for fish, too. Now, thirty-four percent of all kinds of fish are dying out.
How do cars and factories make our water dirty? First, they pollute the air. Then, when it rains, the rainwater comes down and makes our drinking water dirty. Dirty rain, called acid rain(酸雨), is also bad for plants, animals and buildings.
Scientists say that in 30 years, more than half of the people in the world won’t have enough clean water. We have to learn how to save more water for ourselves and our children.

Libraries give kids a quiet and safe place to read and learn. For over 100 years, libraries have played an important role in Americans’ education(教育). But how are these book-filled buildings changing with the times? You may be surprised to find out.

十一、阅读回答问题
请认真阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
I am a Canadian. I started learning French when I was 10 years old. But my whole experience(经历)with the language was in the classroom. All of that changed, however, during my last summer of high school. As a 17-year-old girl, I flew across the country by myself for the first time! I headed for Quebec to live in the province with a French-speaking host family, who didn’t speak any English. And I would learn French at a local school.
On the first day of school the local school gave us students a test to determine(测定)our language level. We were required to speak only French all summer.
I made every effort to communicate(交流)in a second language by making new friends, seeing movies and even ordering food from restaurants in French. Though I couldn’t understand most of it at the very beginning, the whole experience was exciting and refreshing.
On weekends, my classmates and I took trips to different places around the province. On one trip, we went whale watching on the St. Lawrence River. Even though it was raining, we could see huge whales swimming around our boat. The most forgettable(令人难忘的)part of our trip was a visit to historic Quebec City. I walked along the stone street, took pictures of the European-style(欧式的)buildings, and learned some stories there.
Finally my efforts paid off! At the end of the summer, I was able to communicate pretty well. I couldn’t wait to go back to school and talk with my French teacher. Being lost in a French-speaking environment was a valuable learning experience. And it could be the main reason for my improvement(提高)in French.
91.When did the writer fly alone for the first time?
92.How did the local school determine the students’ language level?
