17. In the 60s, people asked about your astrological (about star) sign. In the 90s, they want to know your website. 36 Your website is an electronic meeting place for your family, friends and potentially, millions of people around the world. Best of all, you may not have to spend a cent. The Web is filled with all kinds of free services and all it takes is some time and creativity.
37 Like the table of contents of a book or magazine, the home page is the front door. Your site can have one or more pages, depending on how you design it.
While web pages vary greatly in their design and content, most use a traditional magazine layout(版面设计). At the top of the page is a banner(横幅)GRAPHIC. Next comes a greeting and short description of the site. Pictures, text, and links to other websites follow.
38 Think about whom the site is for and what you want to say. Next, gather up the material that you want to put on the site.
While there are no rules you have to follow, there are a few things to keep in mind: 39 If you want too much at the beginning, you may never get the site off the ground. You can always add to your site.
Less is better. Most people don’t like to read a lot of long texts online. 40
Smaller is better. Since it can take a long time to download large files, keep the file sizes small.
Have the rights. Don’t put any material on your site unless you are sure you can do it legally. Always remember to get the permission from the writer first.
Now it’s time to roll up your sleeves and start building.
A. Start simply.
B. Break it into small pieces.
C. Draw a rough layout on a sheet of paper.
D. Many websites are considered very interesting.
E. Before you start building your site, do some planning.
F. Think of your home page as the starting point of your website.
G. These days, having a web address is almost as important as a street address.

37.F根据后文的the home page is the front door.可知选F。

38.E根据gather up the material that you want to put on the site. 可知选E。

39. A根据If you want too much at the beginning中的beginning可知选A。

40. B根据Less is better. Most people don’t like to read a lot of long texts online可知:越少越好,人们不喜欢读长篇文章,所以应该把长篇文章分成小短篇。

18. AI that Sees like Humans
For most of the past 30 years computer-vision technologies have struggled to perform well, even in tasks as boring as accurately recognizing faces in photographs. ____47____. Companies are already selling products that exploit the technology, which is likely to take over or assist in a wide range of jobs that people now perform.
Recent progress in a deep- learning approach known as a convolutional neural network(CNN) is key to the latest progress. ____48____ While human can easily distinguish between a cat and a dog CNNS allow machines to categorize specific breeds more successfully than people can.
CNNS do not need to be programmed to recognized specific features in images--- for example, the shape and size of an animal’s ears. _____49_____ To train a CNN to separate an English springer spaniel (斯柏林格斯班尼犬) from a Welsh one, for instance , you start with thousands of images of animals, including examples of both breeds. Like most deep-learning networks, CNNS are organized in layers. In the lower layers, they learn simple shapes and edges from the images. In the higher layers, they learn complex and abstract concepts--- in this case, the more detailed aspects of ears, tails, tongues, fur textures, and so on.
CNNS were made possible by the tremendous progress in graphic processing units and parallel processing in the past decade. But the Internet has made a big difference as well by
feeding CNNs’ appetite for digitized images. _____50_____ The technology is making self-driving cars safer by enhancing the ability to recognize pedestrians. Insurers are starting to apply these tools to assess damage to cars. In the security camera industry, CNNS are making it possible to understanding crowd behavior, which will make public places and airport safer.
A. Once trained, a CNN can easily decide whether a new image of an animal shows a breed of interest.
B. Instead, they are taught to spot features such as these on their own.
C. Recently, though, breakthroughs in deep learning have finally enabled computers to interpret many kinds of images as successfully as , or better than , people do.
D. To give a simple example of its power, consider image of animals.
E. Computers-vision systems powered by deep learning are being developed for range of applications.
F. It excels because it is better able to learn, and draw inferences from telling patterns in the images

根据上文…have struggled to perform well 和下文Companies are already selling products that exploit the technology,可知计算机视觉技术做得很好,并且还有所突破,故C选项最合适。

【48题详解】
根据下文While human can easily distinguish between a cat and a dog, CNNS allow machines to categorize specific breeds more successfully than people can. 虽然人类能轻易地区分猫和狗,但CNNS允许机器比人类更成功地对特定的品种进行分类。

可知,D选项关键词image of animals动物图像来举例子验证其能力合适,由此可知,选D切题。

三、阅读理解
19. Even though it’s the 18th movie from the Marvel Universe, Black Panther is the first one to feature a black superhero with a primarily black cast(演员阵容).
The film tells the story of the Black Panther, a superhero who takes his father’s place as king of the fictional African country Wakanda. The film came out in Chinese mainland cinemas on March 9, passing the $1 billion (about 6 billion yuan) mark at the global box office and becoming the No. 2 superhero release of all time on March 10.
However, Black Panther means more than just the money it’s making. As the Guardian noted, the film is already being regarded as “a positive force for social change”.
The wild success of Black Panther lies in the fact that it gives voices to minorities who are rarely given room in popular culture. “It carries a weight that neither Thor nor Captain America could lift: serving a black audience that has long gone under-represented,” Time noted.
“It makes me feel proud and confident that we made it on screen in that way,” Rasheed Butler, 14, from a black community in California, US, told the Marin Independent Journal.
The superhero Black Panther is inspiring, but the movie also highlights brilliant black women. For example, Black Panther’s teenage sister is a tech genius. She designs gadgets for her brother and develops resources that make the isolated Wakanda wealthy scientifically and technologically advanced.
“What I love about the way this film represents women is that each and every one of us is an individual, unique,” Kenyan-Mexican actress Lupita Nyong’o, who plays a spy in the movie, told the Los Angeles Times. “I think that’s a very powerful message to send to children – both male and female.”
Powerful characters aside, the movie has social implications. While the Black Panther tries to keep his country and people away from the outside world, others want to make use of Wakanda’s advanced technology to fight injustice . “But neither option is truly tenable,” The Verge noted. “It suggests that these destructive cycles may only be broken through guidance,
education, and global leadership.”
Instead of hiding away from current issues of race and economic differences, the movie explores what it means to be black in the US, in Africa and in the world. It deals “head-on with the issues affecting modern-day black life”, Time concluded.
41. What is the article mainly about?
A. The success and main plot of Black Panther.
B. The charm of the main characters in Black Panther.

C. it is the first movie to feature black women.
D. it explores the issues of race and economic differences.
43. According to Lupita Nyong’o, women in the mov ie are shown as _______.
A. isolated and uneducated.

C. having a gift for film.
D. having a unique personality.
44. The underlined word “tenable” in the second-to-last paragraph probably means _____.
A. wrong
B. easy
