Back about 20 months ago I started college and just struggled with everything, such as classes and friends. I quickly became depressed and angry at myself for not being about to do better in school, in addition to lack of friends due to poor social and communication skills.
This went on for months until my 19th birthday. My parents sent me a cake, which was a great cake. But I remember having this large cake and ly no one to share it with. I ended throwing out the cake after having one piece, with about 90 % of it leftover. That night I was depressed that I decided to go outside to the freezing temperature of the winter and run. I put my earphones in, went outside and ran about 2 miles at 11 p.m. on my birthday.
When I got back inside I was content. I was proud of what I was able to do. The next night I did the same. I wasn’t quick or fit but you know that I went outside and did something. This continued for about 2 months until I finally worked up the courage to go to the gym, where I started swimming again as I used to in high school. A month went by and I started lifting weights and continually running.
Looking back I can see that exercise helped cure my depression but it didn’t only do that. At the gym I met new friends and back at my dorm I grew confidence to go to the end of the hall seeing people playing Super Smash Brothers and ask if I could join.
So go forward to present now. I exercise every day and look forward to that hour and a half I get daily to do what I love with people who love it as well. I hope this helps someone who may be or have been in a similar
situation.

Before moving to Stokholm, I did my research on Sweden and was confident about my move. However, I quickly realized on my first day that so much of what I learnedwas so very wrong. There are many things that a Google search cannot show about Sweden.
The first is fika. A fika is taking a break from whatever you are doing to enjoy a coffee with friends. Swedes value community highly so it makes sense that they would like to set aside time each day to reconnect with others. Fika is a great time to meet new people as well as catch up with friends.
I grew up in the American South where everyone is very friendly. I found that little things like not being asked my life story at the coffee shop by the waiter upset me. However, Swedish people are not rude. Instead, they practice being logom, which means “just enough”.
The winters can be very dark and cold, so the Swedish people do not take any sunny day for granted. Since the weather has been fine, I have found myself walking a lot around Stockholm. Often it is easiest to get from place to place by walking, which allows you to see so much of the city and enjoy the fresh air. Though it has been very tiring to get used to, it also has made me feel better about all of the kardemummabullar that I have been eating!
I think it is important for students who want to study abroad to know that it is hard to move to countries no matter how “similar” you may think they may be. You have to jump in with both feet and be patient with yourself as well as others. As long as you keep an open mind and are willing to learn, you will have a great experience.
8. What do we know about fika?
A. It is a waste of time.
B. It is a way to balance life and work.
C. It is all about drinking coffee.
D. It is a Swedish social tradition.
9. What does the author think of Swedish people?
A. They are friendly.
B. They seem a bit cold.
C. They appear really rude.
D. They are interested in other's life.
10. Why does the author like walking?
A. It is fun and not very tiring.
B. It is good exercise on cold days.
C It allows her to enjoy sunny days. D. It gives her the chance to eat the local food.
11. What's the author's advice for students going abroad?
A. Be confident.
B. Be careful.
C. Be open- minded.
D. Be hard- working.
D
In recent years, with the development of technology, it is common to see robots into our homes in the form of toys and vacuums (吸尘器) without question. Children’s toys that rely on robotics for both entertainment and education are becoming more popular and more easily accessible. Robot vacuums, too, are so popular that the Roomba has even earned itself a name in popular television.
A selection of other household wares can be purchased and owned for a reasonable cost, but they all look and perform like vacuums. Our domestic helpers are currently designed to vacuuming, mopping, sweeping and mowing.
Of course the best known of these is the Roomba, but there is actually some competition amongst the autonomous vacuum manufacturers. Roomba, made by iRobot, now comes in several designs and has been through many versions of improvements. The basic model is just about $400, but there’s a more attractive version, complete with a wireless command center to control the robot from anywhere in the home. Samsung also has a vacuum, called the Smart Tango, which makes increased improvements on the Roomba by including brushes for cleaning corners. It’s possible that some of the less well-known vacuums might be even more exciting, like the Neato Robotics XV that takes on a square shape to better clean corners. Incremental (增值的) improvements are
what drive the home robot industry.
Now that domestic robots are becoming more popular, the near future should be exciting. If we are going to welcome robots into our lives and our homes, we should expect them to work for it, and work hard. It’s the dawn of the robot revolution, whether we like it or not, and it would be great to see that technology put to use in more innovative(创新的) ways.
12. What does Roomba in the passage mean?
A. A man’s name who has bought a domestic robot.
B. A name of a big company who makes robots.
C. A type of vacuum whose name is Roomba.
D. A place where people can buy proper robots.
13. The Smart Tango is different from other types in that ________.
A. it has a wireless command center
B. it has brushes for cleaning corners
C. it is more famous and exciting
D. it is driven without electricity
14. What can we infer according to the last paragraph?
A. Domestic robots will free us from housework.
B. Domestic robots will become cheaper and cheaper.
C. Domestic robots have brought environmental revolution.
D. Domestic robots takes the lead in science and technology.
15. What does the author intend to tell in the passage?
A. Domestic robots are closely related to our daily life.
B. It is interesting to see domestic robots at home.
C. Domestic robots are too expensive for most people.
D. It is convenient to buy a domestic robot.

51.Dear Jack,
I’m pleasing to hear from you and know that you had a greatly time working part-time in a fast-food restaurant. Now I would like to share your working experiences with you during the past summer.
In the beginning of the summer vacation, I was hired as shopping guide in a big supermarket. I stood for ten hours a day and smiled to everyone I have met. Sometimes I was laughed at, and most of the time, I was praised for my wonderful works by many people.
Half a month passed quickly after I knew it, and I learned how to deal with different people.
Above all, I have learned that smile is the key to solve any problem.
Best wishes.
