第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

21.(6分)“Anything you want, anytime you need it.”
The message appeared on computer screens across the country at the same time, on the same day: December 12th, at 12 p.m.. Simultaneously, important looking envelopes containing cards with the same message were hand-delivered to the offices of all the major news companies.
One found its way to the desk of Chris Lin, a business reporter at The Post. The card was beautifully designed – a black background with the words printed out in crisp white letters. There was no explanation on the back, just a website address.Chris went to the website. Its style was identical to the card’s and said: “Anytime: Starting Tomorrow.”
The next day websites and blogs were filled with articles theorising about Anytime. Was it a shopping website like Tao Bao or Amazon? A joke? Something illegal? Anytime’s marketing had worked –it was a household name before it’d even made a single sale.
When the opening came, that day at noon, the Anytime website suddenly had a single field that read, “What do you want?” All you had to do was type the words into that box, and then specify how quickly you wanted your item delivered: within one, ten, or twenty-four hours.
Bloggers were the first to test the service. And their reviews were glowing. Within weeks, Anytime had become a part of daily life. Nobody used other delivery sites or the post anymore as Anytime was much cheaper and faster.
Chris still wondered what exactly Anytime was. He tried to find out who owned the company, but it was registered in a small country that did not require such information to be made public. He did find some interesting facts, though. Anyone who challenged
the company, it seemed, met with serious trouble. A government official critical of Anytime for avoiding tax was forced to leave his position after news stories suddenly appeared claiming he was dishonest. The head of another company taking Anytime to court died in a car accident just days before the case was to begin.
Chris began making a list of all the people who had something terrible happen to them after opposing or criticising Anytime. By lunch, he had more than one hundred examples. Something was definitely wrong. Chris worked on his list the rest of the day, emailing people who could provide more information and looking through newspaper records. After working through the night, an exhausted Chris finally fell asleep at his desk at 4 a.m..
When he woke a few hours later, there was a message flashing on his computer screen: “Stop making trouble.” Chris smiled. He had no inte ntion of stopping now that he knew he was on the right track.
1、What was on the front of the card sent to Chris Lin?
A.An invitation to a company opening.
B.The website address of a new company.
C.The words “Anytime:Starting tomorrow”.
D.The words “Anything you want, anytime you need it”.
2、Why did the company choose to send the cards to many news reporters? A.Because it didn’t have enough money for traditional advertising.
B.Because it wanted to attract the reporters as customers.
C.So the reporters would write stories about the new company.
D.So people would find the new company interesting.
3、What did Chris’ s research suggest about Anytime?
A.It may be very dangerous.
B.Its popularity would soon decrease.
C.It was doing business all over the world.
D.It was being widely criticised by journalists.
4、How did Chris feel at the end of the story?
A.Scared that he would get into trouble.
B.Confident that he would find the truth.
C.Nervous about what the company would do.
D.Satisfied that he had discovered the company’s secret.
22.(8分)The beloved and longtime host of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Fred Rogers was born on march20, 1928, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.
After graduating from Latrobe High school, Rogers was admitted to Dartmouth College, where he studied for a year before transferring(转学) to Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Rogers, who’d begun playing the piano at a young age, graduated with high honour in 1951 with a degree in music composition.
During his senior year of college he visited his parents and was amazed by the family’s newest household addition: a television set. He could see a bright future for the medium and, as he’d later remembered, Rogers immediately decided he wanted to be a part of it.
Rogers’ first job in television came in 1953 when he was employed to work in programming by WQED in Pittsburgh, a recently launched community TV station that was the first of its kind in the country.
In the following year, he was co-producing a new program, The Children’s Corner. This allowed Rogers, who’d fallen in love with puppetry(木偶戏) as a child, to introduce some of his favourite puppets from his home to his young audience.
As his experience grew, so did his aspirations(抱负). He earned his divinity(神学) degree in 1962. After that Presbyterian Church asked him to serve children and families through television. Rogers made his first appearance the following year as Mister Rogers on a Canadian Broadcast System show called Misterogers. The program helped lay the foundation in its look and approach for Rogers’ later show.
Canada, however, was not where Rogers or his wife, Joanne, whom he’d met at Rollins, wanted to raise their two young sons. Soon, the Rogers family was back in Pittsburgh, where Rogers launched Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood in 1996.
1、What inspired Fred Rogers’ decision to enter a career in television?

A.Misterogers in Canada. B.The Children’s Corner
C.Rogers’ divinity degree. D.Rogers’ first job.
3、Why did the couple move back to Pittsburgh?

B.They thought Canada was unfit for bringing up their children.
C.They wanted to look after their parents back in America.
D.Presbyterian Church invited them back in America.
4、What does the whole text mainly talk about?
A.Rogers’ interests in music and puppets.
B.Early education Fred Rogers received.
C.Fred Roger s’ family and his experiences.
D.Fred Rogers’ early life and early career.
23.(8分)My college experience included this life-skill lesson: Drink alcohol on a full stomach. Or you will get inebriated too quickly. Of course, most college students shouldn’t be drinking at all, but we know from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism that close to 60 percent of college students aged 18 to 22 do consume alcohol, which makes harm-reducing approaches important.
Unfortunately, campus authorities and researchers are reporting a practice that turns the full-stomach drinking strategy on its head: rather than filling up before a night of partying, significant numbers of students refuse to eat all day before consuming alcohol.
This is a high-risk behavio r called “drunkorexia,” which is one part eating disorder, one part alcoholism—a very dangerous combination for college-age students. The term drunkorexia, which can also include excessive exercise or purging before consuming alcohol, was coined about 10 years ago, and it started showing up in medical research around 2012. Drunkorexia addresses the need to be the life of the party while staying extremely thin, pointing to a flawed mind-set about body image and alcoholism among college students, mostly women.
Imagine this scenario: A female college freshman doesn’t eat anything all day, exercises on an empty stomach, then downs five shots of tequila in less than two hours. Because there’s no food in her system to help slow the absorption of alcohol, those sho ts affect her rapidly, leading to inebriation and possibly passing out, vomiting or suffering alcohol poisoning. That’s drunkorexia.
Tavis Glassman, professor of health education and public health at the University
of Toledo in Ohio, researches drunkorexia and worries about scenarios such as the one
described above: “With nothing in her system, alcohol hits quickly, and that brings up the same issues as with any high-risk drinking: getting home safely, sexual assault, unintentional injury, fights, hangovers that affect class attendance and grades, and possibly ending up in emergency because the alcohol hits so hard,” he says.
“Alcohol can negatively affect the liver or gastrointestinal system, it can interfere with sleep, lower the immune system and is linke d to several types of cancers,” Hultin says.
1、What does the underlined word “inebriated” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.excited B.overwhelmed C.addicted D.drunk
2、We can infer from the passage that ____________.
A.a large number of college students spend most of their nights partying
B.some college students refuse to eat before drinking alcohol to keep slim
C.There is a direct link between body image and consuming alcohol
D.female college student is more likely to be hurt if she drinks alcohol
3、Which of the following may Tavis Glassman agree with?
A.With more food in one’s system, he may suffer from the effects of alcohol slowly. B.Drinking five shots of tequila in less than two hours is the performance of drunkorexia.
C.Those who don’t attend classes and have low er grades tend to be addicted to alcohol. D.Alcohol has negative effects on the immune system and may lead to several cancers.
24.(8分)I look around and can’t recognize where I am. It seems familiar but distant. I see my friends gather by a stage where music is playing and I run over. As I begin running towards them, they become further and further away. I keep calling them, but no one hears me. I start hearing a distant alarm-like sound and I am transported away. I woke up in a daze sitting in my bed.
“Oh, it was only a dream,” I said to myself. I have always had vivid and intense dreams. It feels like I haven't even slept because I have been living out my dreams during my sleep.
Today, dreaming is being studied even more than ever. Some say that dreams are how your receptors make sense of random thoughts while you sleep. Some say that you can’t dream of a face you have never seen before, so everyone you see in your dreams you have at least laid eyes on at one time or another.
Other people think dreams are ways of expressing stress or internal feelings you may be experiencing. A lot of people say that they have dreams about being chased.
A common interpretation of the “being chased” dream is that you are feeling threatened. Some dream interpretation websites say you should try to reflect on what or who is chasing you to get a better idea of what is making you feel this way.
Another dream that is often experienced is flying. This dream has a much more positive interpretation, which is that you are feeling free or have broken out of a bad situation such as a relationship turned sour or a job you hate.
Unfortunately, you may forget half of your dream within five minutes of waking up and within 10 minutes, you usually forget 90 percent of it.
Dreamologists, people who devote time to the study and interpretation of dreams, suggest if you want to try to remember and study your dreams you should keep a journal beside your bed and write down what you dreamt as soon as you wake up so you can reflect on it later.
1、What does the author think of his dreams?
A.They have influenced his sleep. B.They reproduce his real life scene. C.They are just his random thoughts. D.They are unbelievable and ridiculous.
2、In which situation do dreams of “being chased” probably occur?
A.You are feeling free. B.Y ou just quit a job you hate.
C.You lack the sense of security. D.Your friends keep you at a distance.
3、Why should we keep a journal beside our bed?
A.To reflect on our dreams.
B.To avoid forgetting our dreams.
C.To help us sleep well without dreams.
D.To help us get out of the tense dreams.
4、Where is the passage probably taken from?
A.A news report. B.A fiction book.
C.An ad website. D.A science newspaper.
25.(10分)In the far,far future, bicycles and perhaps skates may be run by jet power, and a new thing to ride may be a small flying saucer(飞碟).Imagine a race between them!
There may be telepathy helmets(心灵感应帽)that send thought waves from your
brain to that of your friend miles away. You just think a thought and your friend knows it!You can have secrets with each other that nobody else can turn in on!
What about the food of the future?Scientists think.that much of it will be artificial—made in factories from such surprising things as coal, limestone, air, and water. The artificial food will be healthful because all the things that you need to live a long and healthy life will be put into it.
The future hospitals will probably have "body banks" that can give you almost any new part you need to keep on living.People of the future may live to be a lot older than 100 years.
What about highways of the future?Well,a very small child probably will be able to drive a car.Nobody will need to steer(驾驶).Electric signals will hold each car on the right road to get wherever the "driver" wants to go. And it probably will be impossible for cars to smash together.Controls that won't even have to be touched will make all speeding cars miss each other or will put on the brakes.Driving cars will be as safe as being at home.
But maybe the most wonderful surprise in the future will be weather control.Cities may have giant plastic domes(圆顶罩)over them to keep out snow, rain,or storms. When you plan a picnic in a park, you won't have to worry about rain.It will rain only when the "weatherman" thinks it is necessary to fresh the air inside the city. All other days will be fair and warm.
The future should be a wonderful time in which to live and the time we are living in now is also a wonderful future to the people who lived 100 years ago.
1、What can we learn from the passage?
A.With telepathy helmets,we can share our thoughts without any word.
B.The artificial food made from coal and limestone tastes the most delicious in the future.
C.There will be “body banks” instead of hospitals in the future.
D.Plastic domes themselves can automatically control the weather.
2、With the future highways,_______.
A.small children have to learn to drive
B.car accidents still couldn't be avoided
C.we can be taken to the destination without steering
D.cars will be no longer equipped with brakes
3、The author's attitude towards the future life is_______.
A.optimistic B.pessimistic
C.satisfied D.doubtful

We all have 50 resources in time and money, so don’t blow them all on one
