CCTV cameras watch action ( 英国 CCTV 监控 )
In UK , Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras are everywhere.
They help the police solve crimes and keep the streets safe. But that’s not all
they do . They also catch people doing very stupid or smart things. One of the videos is of a British woman Mary Bale. She clearly
doesn’t like cats. In 2010 she was caught on CCTV throwing one into a
dustbin. The video shows Mary walking down a quiet street. All of sudden ,
she notices Lola the cat jump onto a fence. Mary stops to pick up Lola and
drops her into a large dustbin . Lola was saved fifteen hours later. And Mary
was arrested for causing unnecessary suffering to an animal . She was fined ( 罚款)£250 and was not allowed to own pets for five years.
Another video shows “ Britain’s drunkest man” . He’s been at a party at London’s Savoy Hotel. And he’d obviously had a few too many glasses of beer. At about 2 a. m. , he was kicked out for bei ng too drunk . So, he decided to walk home. On the way , CCTV cameras filmed him falling down stairs and crossing the roads madly… A Savoy Hotel waiter said, “ It’s amazing he didn’t hurt himself badly.”
Sometimes they also record smart events. Once a Brit ish band The Get Out Clause didn’t have any
money to make a music video. So , they came up with an unbelievable idea. They set up their instruments ( 乐器) and played a song in front of eight CCTV cameras. And then, according to the English Freedom of Information Act , they asked for a copy of all the footages ( 视频) , which they edited. The result is that a
totally new music video was made, and it didn’t cost them a penny. They pla

A
Do you know why different animals or pests (昆虫) have their special colors? Colors in them seem to be used mainly to protect themselves.
Some birds like eating locusts (蝗虫), but birds cannot easily catch them. Why? It is because locusts change their colors together with the change of the colors of crops
(庄稼).
When crops are green, locusts look green. But as the harvest time comes,
locusts change to the same brown color as crops have. Some other pests with
different colors from plants are easily found and eaten by others. So they
have to hide themselves for lives and appear only at night. If you stu dy
the animal life, you’ll find the main use of coloring is to protect themselves. Bears, lions and other animals move quietly through forests. They cannot be easily seen by hunters (猎人). This is because they have the colors much like the trees.
Have you ever noticed an even stranger act? A kind of fish in the sea can send out a kind of very black liquid (液体)when it faces danger. While the liquid spreads over (散开),
its enemies (敌人)cannot find it. And it immediately swims away. So it has lived up to now

Everybody can suffer from stress. No matter what your age is, you can feel stressed out by things that are happening in your life. Teenagers, however, have many more opportunities to get stressed than people in any other age group. Being a teenager is hard. You are not a child any more, but you are not an adult, even though you have to deal with some very grown-up problems and decisions. Families can be one of the biggest causes of stress, such as problems with parents arguing at home. or problems with brothers and sisters. Teenagers also have a lot of stress from school, either from their teachers or from their friends. Some teenagers also feel stressed about choosing their education after high school. Getting a place at university can be very difficult and some cannot afford to go to university. The stress about getting a job when finishing school is hard for some teenagers. There are so many young people finishing school and not enough jobs for them. Sadly, there is nothing we can do to remove these causes of stress from the 1ives of teenagers, but you can learn the best way to deal with it. Talking to people is one of the best ways to deal with stress. It may sound simple, but it is true. A problem shared is a problem halved.

The Spring Festival together with the winter holidays often means sharing delicious food with friends and families. Most people will eat more than they usually do. But doctors find out that what you eat may affect how well you remember things. This is bad news for people who eat too much.
Forgetfulness seems to many people an inevitable(不可避免的) part of ageing. As our bodies gr ow older, most of us find that many things we should remember are slipping out of minds. But new facts show that it’s possible to slow time’s effects on our minds. Once people thought that the brain(大脑) could not make new cells(细胞), but now studies show that learning new things can help brain grow and keep the
illness away from the brain. Professor Eric Kandel, a Nobel Prize winner for his study of the human memory, says the best way to save our memories is to keep our brains in good shape. Through mental(脑力的) exercise, he says, people can keep their memories whole into their 80s and 90s. And Mark Mattson, a professor at the National Institute on ageing, says that reducing the amount of calories fed to older rats and mice by thirty percent can be a good help to le arning and memory. While it’s hard for many people to go on their diet(节食) like that, doctors tell us that even small steps can make big difference.
