Have you gotten vaccinated? This question has been a common way to greet others in China since the country produced a number of COVID-19 vaccines (疫苗) in December 2020.
China vaccinated 40 percent of its population by June, 2021. At the same time, China was also providing vaccines for other countries. It is exporting (出口) COVID-19 vaccines to 28 countries and giving help to 69 countries in need, Xinhua reported. Most of these countries were developing nations, such as Pakistan, Mongolia and Mexico. The leaders of these countries were taking the lead in receiving vaccine shots in January last year. They included Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Chilean President Sebastian Pinera.
According to the World Bank, to vaccinate (接种) their citizens, small and medium-sized developing nations could have ended up a year behind larger developing nations and developed countries. Some wealthier nations have already stored many vaccine doses (剂) for their own citizens. Some of them have ordered enough vaccines to vaccinate their people two or three times, The Washington Post reported.
For countries that have not yet developed or gotten a vaccine, China may be the only answer, AP noted China is one of the few nations that can produce vaccines on a large scale (大批量).

Have you ever imagined going inside of a video game? That dream may soon become real. It’s called the “metaverse”.
The metaverse is a shared virtual (虚拟的) 3D world, or worlds. The word is a combination of “meta”, which means beyond, and “verse”, which refers to “universe”. The word first appeared in a 1992 science fiction book called Snow Crash. In this story, people wear virtual reality (VR) headsets to see and join the metaverse.
Now, what happens in the book is becoming a reality. Wearing a VR headset, you can meet other people wherever they are. You can work and play with them. It will feel real because the technology can simulate our senses: vision, hearing, touch, and even smell.
“We’re talking about creating another reality, another world, that’s as rich as the real world,” said Rev Lebaredian, vice president of simulation technology at NVIDIA, a US tech
company.
So, what can you do inside of the metaverse? Your location will no longer matter, says VOA News. In the metaverse, “people ... would be connected at all times…” You can meet friends from other countries and go on a virtual beach vacation together. But forget Thailand—you can go to the beach on the moon, or anywhere else you can imagine. Can’t find a friend to play basketball with? Jump into the metaverse and find some friends to play with or go to a concert!
Cathy Hackl, an expert in metaverse technology, said her son’s first concert was inside of a video game. “Just because it happened in a video game, it didn’t make it less real for him,” she said.
Perhaps the metaverse will change our idea of what is real.

Teamwork is really important for any class or team to achieve its goals and purposes. Let me give you some reasons why teamwork is so advantageous.
As individuals (个体), we each have different talents, strengths, weaknesses and experiences. A team is like a tapestry that weaves (编织) what each of us owns, coming up with a final product with different colors or patterns, but fantastic. As team members exchange thoughts and experiences, there can be more efficiency (效率) at problem-solving. This sharing of talents can also lead to greater creation and success. Take Leicester City (菜斯特城足球俱乐部) for example. It won the Premier League in 2016 to the surprise of many soccer fans. Leicester City was often considered as the loser. But it showed perfect teamwork that led to its final victory in soccer history.
Next, teamwork helps to increase efficiency and productivity as members share the workload. When work is divided, each of us in a team shows his own advantages in specific tasks. Teamwork reduces the stress and makes it possible to complete tasks on time. So we can expect greater job satisfaction.
And finally, working in a team may help increase learning chances for the members
involved. Team members learn from more experienced members who can offer deeper views. And newer members may also provide the latest ideas. Besides encouraging the sharing of knowledge and experiences, teamwork also develops skills like communication and interpersonal skills. We learn to respect differences in working styles and opinions, and develop trust when working with others.
In spite of (尽管) some advantages in teamwork, some more talented people still think working alone means being the star of a project, and there’s no need to share the success or pride with others, even though with a little more time. But the loss of working together may also prevent the team from reaching its fullest end.
Answer the following questions. (No more than six words)
44.How many advantages does the writer talk about in the passage?
______________________
45.What helped Take Leicester City achieve its final victory in 2016?
______________________
46.Why does teamwork increase efficiency and productivity?
______________________
47.What can experienced members and new members learn from each other?
______________________
48.Would you like to work alone or work with others in the future?

The Island of Jura is one of Scotland’s best kept secrets—a beautiful but little known island with a population of some 200 people. The quiet life of Jura would be hard to find anywhere else, and people of Jura are proud of that. However, if you want an active holiday, there are many things for you to see and do.
If you enjoy walking and hill climbing, for example, then the hills of Jura, which rise to more than 800 metres, should be on your list. As these walks take about seven hours, strong walking boots are recommended.
Beautiful birds, seals, golden eagles… From the moment you get off the Jura ferry(轮渡), you will see deer happily feeding on sea plants along the shoreline. You will get those special once-in-a-lifetime photos of wild animals.
The Ardfin Gardens are open all year round. Entry is through the main gate, where you will find an information board and short guides to the two garden walks. The beginning of both walks will take you over a small stream. It is here that you turn left to do the longer of the two walks along the cliff tops. The views are amazing and on a clear day you will be able to see as far as Northern Ireland. Back at sea level, remember to visit the walled garden. Here you will see native plants mixed with plants from far-away countries.
The island has only one large hotel. The Jura Hotel offers visitors nice rooms and an excellent menu, and their prices are what you would expect to pay in other parts of Scotland. Just opposite the hotel is ‘Jura Stores’. From the outside, it looks like any other small village shop. However, once inside you will be surprised at the goods—from delicious cakes to waterproofs and sleeping bags.
