Does he have any "secrets" to success? The answer to these questions can be found in his "back to school" speech. Drawing on his own experiences, Obama told students that it takes hard work in school to prepare for a rewarding(有意义的) career. Here is excerpt (摘录) from his speech:I know that sometimes, you get the sense that you can be rich and successful without any hard work –that your ticket to success is through rapping (饶舌音乐) or basketball or being a reality TV star. But the truth is, being successful is hard. You won't love every subject you study. Not every homework assignment (作业) will seem completely important to your life right this minute. And you may not succeed at everything the first time you try. That's OK. Some of the most successful people in the world are the ones who've had the most failures. JK Rowling's first Harry Potter book was rejected(拒绝)12 times before it was finally published. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, and he lost hundreds of games and missed thousands of shots during his career. But he once said: "I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."These people succeeded because they understand that you can't let your failures define (定义) you –you have to let them teach you. You have to let them show you what to do differently next time.No one's born being good at things, you become good at things through hard work.Don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness; it's a sign of strength(力量). It shows you have the courage to admit when you don't know something, and to learn something new.1. What should students do in school to prepare for a rewarding career ?They should work hard.2. Every homework assignment will seem completely important to your life right this minute, won't it? No, it won't.3. What happened before Harry Potter book was finally published? It was rejected 12 times.4. Did Michael Jordan always win his games? No, he didn‟t.5. Is "asking for help" a sign of strength or a sign of weakness? It‟s a sign of strength.6. What can you learn from this speech?Any reasonable answer is ok.Ask and it shall be givenTHE greatest saleswoman in the world today doesn't mind if you call her a girl. That's because Markita Andrews has made more than $80,000 selling Girl Scout (女童子军) cookies since she was 7 years old.Going door-to-door after school, the shy Markita changed herself into a cookie-selling genius (天才)when she discovered, at age 13, the secret of selling."I'll work hard to make enough money to send you to college," her mother said one day. "and when you graduate, you'll make enough money to take you and me around the world. OK?"So at age 13, when Markita read in her Girl Scout magazine that the scout who sold the most cookies would win a free trip for two around the world, she decided to do it. To make her dream come true, Markita knew she needed a plan. Many other scouts may have wanted that trip around the world. They may have had a plan. But only Markita went off in her uniform each day after school, ready to ask - and keep asking – folks(人们)to invest(投资)in her dream.Markita sold 3,526 boxes of Girl Scout cookies that year and won her trip around the world. She is no smarter and no more outgoing than thousands of other people, young and old, with dreams of their own. The difference is Markita had discovered the secret of selling: ask, ask, ask! Many people fail before they even begin because they do not ask for what they want."You're selling yourself every day - in school, to your boss, to new people you meet," said Markita at 14. It takes courage to ask for what you want. And, as Markita has found, the more you ask, the easier and more fun it gets.1.When did Markita change herself into a cookie-selling genius? At age 13.2.Who would win a free trip for two around the world according to Girl Scout magazine? The scout who sold the most cookies.3.Markita is smarter than thousands of other people, isn‟t she?No, she isn‟t.4.Why did thousands of other scouts fail to win the trip?Because they didn‟t ask for what they wanted.5.What was the secret of selling?Ask, ask, ask.6.What do you think of the girl? Why?Any reasonable answer is ok.。

There is plenty of water, such as rain, water from the rivers and wells. It seems as if water is always available around us and we never have to worry about water shortage. In fact water is rather limited on the earth. With the rapid increase of population and fast development of industries, water is more needed than before. At the same time, a large amount of water has been polluted and wasted every day. Some big cities in China are facing the problem of water shortage already. There, water supply is controlled and industry has been restrained. What should we do about the water shortage? I think, first, the people should be made aware of the real situation about the water. Everyone should consciously save water and certain law should be made so that no water will be polluted. We have to protect the existing water resources and develop new ones. In this way I believe that our cities will not be thirsty for water in the future.英语话剧-Cinderella(灰姑娘)灰姑娘台词:Cinderella第一场:旁白:Long, long ago, there was a cute girl, her name is Alice, her mother was dead, her father loved her very much. 英国童子军的英语
英国童子军的英语The History and Values of the British Boy Scouts。
The British Boy Scouts, also known as the Scout Association, is the largest Scouting organization in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1908 by Robert Baden-Powell, a British Army officer, as a way to provide young boys with a program that would teach them outdoor skills, self-reliance, and good citizenship. The organization has since grown to become one of the most respected and influential youth organizations in the world. The values of the British Boy Scouts are based on the Scout Law and Promise, which are a set of principles that all members are expected to uphold. The Scout Law includes such values as honesty, integrity, and respect for others, while the Scout Promise is a pledge to do one's best to do their duty to God and the Queen, to help other people at all times, and to obey the Scout Law.One of the key aspects of the British Boy Scouts is its focus on outdoor activities and adventure. The organization offers a wide range of activities, including camping, hiking, and water sports, all of which are designed to help young people develop self-confidence, leadership skills, and a love of the outdoors. In addition, the Scouts also participate in community service projects, such as helping with conservation efforts or assisting the elderly, which helps them develop a sense of responsibility and compassion for others.Another important aspect of the British Boy Scouts is its emphasis on personal development. The organization offers a comprehensive program of awards and badges that are designed to recognize and reward the achievements of its members. These awards cover a wide range of skills and activities, including first aid, cooking, and environmental conservation, and they are an important way for young people to develop new skills and build their self-esteem.The British Boy Scouts also places a strong emphasis on inclusivity and diversity. The organization is open to all young people, regardless of their background or abilities, and it actively works to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued. This commitment to diversity is reflected in the organization's leadership, with many of its top positions held by women and members of minority groups. In conclusion, the British Boy Scouts is an organization that is dedicated to helping young people develop into responsible, confident, and compassionate adults. Through its focus on outdoor activities, personal development, and inclusivity, the organization provides its members with the skills and values they need to succeed in life. As the world continues to change, the British Boy Scouts remains committed to its mission of preparing young people to make a positive difference in the world.。

高中英语 The Little Girl Scout阅读素材
The Little Girl ScoutI admit it. I'm not cut out to be a soccer Mom. I'm not class Mom material, either.I don't bake homemade chocolate chips. In fact, when my daughter, Alexa, was in kindergarten, as part of a "Why I Love My Mommy" Mother's Day project, her teacher asked her to name her "favorite dish" that Mom cooks."I don't have one," she said."Oh sweetheart, there must be something your mother cooks that you love. A special dinner? Your favorite dessert?""My Mommy doesn't cook.""She must make something," her increasingly desperate teacher insisted. "Jell-O?"After lengthy consideration, my daughter listed "cereal."So it was with much trepidation that I recently learned Alexa wanted to be a Brownie.I am a Mom who is great at making up stories, singing off-key songs at bedtime and remembering the names of every Pokemon. But with three kids, a dog, a rabbit, a parrot, and a veritable aviary of finches, life in our household is disorganized at best. Dinner is a haphazard affair. I flunked Home Economics in high school. Clearly, I did not have the makings of aBrownie-badge-earning mom."Are you sure?" I asked, trying to mask my dread. Her delighted "yes" sealed my fate.I made it through the camping trip, even through crafts. Then came the year's highlight: the sale. Mentally, I counted my immediate family. I figured they were good for about ten boxes. I'd buy a few as well. That brought Alexa to a total of fifteen boxes or so - not too shabby. Her dad picked her up after the sale meeting. Horrified, I watched as they struggled through the door with six CASES of s. Cases! After coming to, I managed to sputter, "What's all this?""Her s," my husband answered."Each girl is assigned six cases to sell.""But what if we can't sell all these?""We bring them back," he said."No big deal.""Oh no, Mommy!" Alexa cried out. "We have to sell them all. We just have to! I'll be the laughingstock of the troop if I don't. One of the other Brownies told me that last year, not one girl brought back any s."Apparently, we were going to be hitting up Grandma for a lot more than the four boxes I had mentally sold to her. After ten days of ferocious selling, we had managed to sell a case and a half. s were stacked in my home office from floor to ceiling - or at least that's how I remember it.I dreamed at night of Thin Mints chasing me down dark alleys. After four more days of selling, we still had four cases of s. Then came one of those days that happen to Moms like me.On that particular day, the dog jumped in the lake after a duck. The duck escaped, but my dog resembled the Creature from the Black Lagoon. One dog bath, one muddy Mom, and thirteen towels later, the dog was clean. But my two-year-old son had been suspiciously quiet during the whole ordeal. In fact, all the hairs on the back of my neck were standing on end. Even more than kitchen pot-banging, TV blaring, and loud bickering, all Moms dread "the silence." You know . . . that silence."Alexa," I said, emerging from the bathroom, mud clinging to my hair, "where's your brother?" "I dunno." I went tearing through the house. Was he coloring on my bedroom walls again? No. I raced to the kitchen. Spilling cereal on the floor? No. He must be in his room. Was he climbing on top of his dresser pretending to be Superman again? Not there. "Nicholas!" I called out. Then, fearing my computer keyboard was being covered in apple juice, I ran to my office. There sat Nicholas. Surrounded by sixty-one opened boxes of Girl Scout s. In fact, he had the cellophane for the next pack in his teeth, attempting to bust open another box. Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Buddies, Shortbread Dreams orwhatever-the-heck-they're called were splayed from one end of the room to the other. s were crushed beneath his chubby little feet and crumbs covered his rosy cheeks."s!" he squealed. As I wrote out a check for over $250 dollars worth of Girl Scouts, I came to the realization that I am most definitely NOT a Brownie Mom. But my son? He's the hero of Troop 408..。

美语情景对话第168期:女童子军 Girl Scouts
When I was eight years old I went to Girl Scout camp with my best friend Lauren. It was for two weeks and it was in the middle of July so it was really hot. We had no air conditioning. We actually slept in tee-pees like the native Americans. It was a great time. Everyday we took swimming lessons. We went to arts and crafts. We had to help cook the meals. We made breakfast, lunch and dinner. We learned how to canoe, ride in a canoe, and we also, what did we do? We rode horses, too. We got to ride horses. At first, maybe the first three days, I was really homesick, and I cried and I wanted
to go home but after one week I loved it and I didn't want to leave.
