Then mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet.此部分题答案用2B铅笔做在答题纸上Passage OneEvery one of us is a mother, father, son or daughter - and we all have dreams - big and small. Unfortunately, too many of us keep these dreams to ourselves because we fear what others might say. My point in writing this is to say it's OK to dream and dream big and talk about your dreams so thatothers are inspired to dream big too. What a world we would have if everyone did this!My dad was a dreamer. He told me that one day he was going to have a sailboat. We would go to the boat shows whenever they came to town and climb into them. My father would talk to thesales people and I would be busy pretending to sail the boat. It was fun. Then one day we went to the boat place and took out a sailboat on the ocean, what a thrill! Soon afterwards he bought his first boat and named it "LETSGO" and we sailed and sailed big bays and seas around New England. When I was older I got to be the skipper because he not only told me his dream he showed it to me and let me taste the idea on my own. Now I was inspired to dream big too.You see dreams can do wonders for you. When you believe in your dreams, they take on a life of their own. Now you start dreaming up things to do to make your inspiration a reality. More dreams, more inspiration, then more dreams and a few more. Then one morning you wake up and the dream has come true.My dreams have taken me to so many beautiful places; I've been below the surface of the ocean watching the beauty of coral and fish as I swim by. I've flown an airplane with pontoon floats from a lake in northern Maine and another different plane on a flight over the Grand Canyon. I've also ridden under my own wind blown sails. The pictures in my head are priceless and better than any I've taken. Some of the best times I've had were listening to older people talk about their dreams and what their dreams did for their lives. When I hear some of their dreams it inspires me to think and dream how I might do that too.I interviewed a man some years ago who was 80-something years young. He was a sturdy man with the hands to match the story he told me. Hands still strong enough to crack the shells of the walnuts he offered me and munched on. He had outlived his wife but still lived in their neat home with bookcases near the fi replace he no doubt built. I asked one question and I didn’tmove for hours. His story of leaving home to eGplore the world and learn a new trade was fascinating to my young mind. But it was after hearing his tale that I realized what he was really saying to me - not as an aspiring journalist but as a person. He told me he dreamed that he would have a great life and he had one, so, I could dream about having a great life and get one too.Just as my father had said to me earlier, here was another confirmation. I did just what they said to do, because I could do anything I wanted. Therefore, I say dream... dream big dreams about your great life to come. I抦heading out toward my neGt one, how about you?11. According to the author, people keep dreams to themselves because ________.A. they don’t think their dreams will come trueB. they don’t have time to realize their dreamsC. their parents don’t support themD. they fear what others might say12. In Paragraph 2, “We would go to the boat shows whenever they came to town”because________.A. I like to play in the boatB. father likes to talk to the sales peopleC. father hopes to buy a sailboat one dayD. I want to become a skipper in the future13. Which statement .can best describe the saying ”dream can wond ers for you” in Para 3?A. Our dream will come true one morning we wake up.B. Dreams can inspire us to make them a reality.C. We will live a better life once we have a dream.D. The more dreams you have, the greater you will be.14. The author has done the following eGplorations eGcept ________.A. swimmingB. flying a plane from a lakeC. flying over a canyonD. sailing across an ocean15. We can infer from Paragraph 6 that the old man ________.A. is rather pleased with his life nowB. was a writer when he was youngC. live a happy life with his wifeD. used to be businessman for some timePassage TwoDo other animals besides humans cry?The answer to the question is ‘Yes, and no’. All animals with mobile eyes have the ability to cry, just as we humans do. They have a tearing system that keeps their eyes wet so as to protect them from dry sand, dusts, and other elements. People often tell tales of animals such as elephants and dogs weeping when punished. However, even if such an animal does shed tears, there is no scientific evidence that the animal is eGpressing the tear-related emotions similar to those when humans cry.But what about when a baby chimp or ape whimpers and screams when it’s being separated from its mother, can we say with some certainty that the animal is crying? Taking away the babies does encourage care-giving such as feeding and protecting from the mother apes, but it is uncertain whether the baby apes feel the same way as baby humans do when they cry.In fact, it’s not clear that crying and other emotional displays mean eGactly the same thing to all humans. For instance, there is a wide range of emotions that prompt people to cry, andsome kinds of weeping, such as crying at a stranger’s wedding, seem to be cultural responses. In addition, some people are autistic. That means they prefer being alone than being with otherpeople, especially in large crowds. These people are said to have less ability in eGpressing their emotions, but research also has shown that it’s m ore that their eGpressions and their reactions to the emotional eGpressions of others are unusual. Different. But does that mean that their sadness is different somehow? So even if apes can be said with some certainty to be feeling emotions, then there is the problem of figuring out to what eGtent what they feel resembles what humans feel.16. What does the author mean by “Yes, and no” in line 1, paragraph 1?A. Other animals besides humans cry.B. No other animals besides humans cry.C. Animals cry but do not cry like humans.D. Animals cry but humans do not cry.17. Which of the following statement is true?A. All animals have mobile eyes.B. All animals have a tearing system.C. Tearing system keeps animals’ eyes wet.D. Animals cry when being punished.18. Baby chimps or apes cry because__________.A. they are being separated from their mothersB. the reason is not clearC. they feel the same way as baby humans doD. they need to be fed and protected19. Why human beings cry?A. There a wide range of reasons.B. People cry because they attend a stranger’s wedding.C. Crying means eGactly the same thing to all humans.D. Because of cultural responses.20. It can be inferred from the passage that __________.A. it is uncertain to say to what eGtent apes feel the same emotions as humansB. it is sure that apes can feel emotionsC. some people prefer being alone because they’re not good at communicationD. people’s emotions are differentPassage ThreeEve n though she’s quite young, Drew Barrymore can already be called a Hollywood legend. If someone receives a call during sleeping hours, he assumes it's a matter of life or death. The time chosen for the call communicates its importance. In social life, time plays a very important part. In the U.S.A. guests tend to feel they are not highly regarded if the invitation to a dinner party is extended only three or four days before the party date. But it is not true in all countries. In other areas of the world, it may be considered foolish to make an appointment too far in advance because plans which are made for a date more than a week away tend to be forgotten. The meaning of time differs in different parts of the world. Thus, misunderstandings arise between people from different cultures that treat time differently. Promptness is valued highly in American life, for example. If people are not prompt, they may be regarded as impolite or not fully responsible. In the U.S. no one would think of keeping a business associate waiting for an hour, it would be too impolite. A person, who is 5 minutes late, will say a few words of explanation, though perhaps he will not complete the sentence.16.(单选题) What is the main idea of this passage? ________A:It is not customary to telephone someone in the morning and in sleeping hours in the U.S.B:The role of time in social life over the world.C:If people are late, they may be regarded as impolite or not fully responsible in the U.S.D:Not every country treats the concept of time as the same.答题: A. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choice.Passage 1◎题型:材料题When people have more money than they need for ordinary (平常的) things, they sometimes spend their spare money in travelling and seeing other parts of the world. European (欧洲的) people go to the East and people from the East go to the West. Long before people traveled for pleasure, ships went abroad to trade with one another. The men that sailed in those old ships often used stars and planets (行星) to help them find their way. Each time they saw an island (岛), they brought out their maps to see whether the island was marked on them. If it was not marked there, they knew that they had discovered a new island. If we compare the maps of today with those used by the early sailors we'll notice many differences. These days the quickest and the most convenient way to travel is by air. Some people who don't like cold weather fly to a warmer place when the cold season comes. Some people like to travel by sea better because it gives them a chance to make new friends. The most natural way to travel is by land. If we have enough time to compare one place with another, we will come to a conclusion (结论) that every two places are rather different from each other. If we master languages, we can have a better knowledge of the differences between the two countries.题型:单选题1. This passage is written about .A. languageB. islandsC. weatherD. journey2. It is hard for those who have little to enjoy other parts of the world.A. knowledge of languagesB. moneyC. shipD. map3. Generally speaking, maps are necessary for .A. studentsB. businessmenC. travelersD. teachers4. Traveling in a plane is than traveling by sea or by land.A. more naturalB. more convenientC. quickerD. both B and C5. To make life more comfortable, some people travel to different places with changes inthe .A. friendsB. moneyC. weatherD. languagePassage 2◎题型:材料题Our environment is getting worse and worse with the increase of the world population, which affects the environment in two ways. Firstly, the limited energy resources will be used up much faster. Secondly, the increasing population creates more pollution, another severe problem that needs to be solved. Both problems are long-term ones because actions taken now show their results slowly over many years. They are also urgent because delays in action can lead to great suffering and social problems. The question seems to be difficult to handle for most people. However, a person can be a protector of environment in everyday life if he takes actions to save the environment right now. With the development of technology, cars make transportation easier and quicker than before, but we can't ignore the disadvantages brought to us by more and more cars in use. For example, we are consuming gasoline (汽油), which is a non-renewable (无法更新的) resource, and will soon be gone. Moreover, the exhausted gas from cars pollutes our air, and our health is therefore threatened by air pollution, which has a big potential effect on our daily life. So we can consider walking, taking buses, carpooling (合用汽车), instead of driving cars alone. This seems to be a very slow process that can't be so effective if it's taken by a single person. But when more and more people become aware of the importance and positively take it as their personal responsibilities, the condition of the air will be improved to a great extent.题型:单选题6. According to the writer, the main problem to our environment today is ____.A. the increase of populationB. the limited energy resourcesC. the more serious air pollutionD. the development of technology7. From the passage, we can know that ____.A. effective measures can be taken mainly by the governmentB. taking measures now can soon improve the environmentC. immediate measures can cause great suffering and social problemsD. every single person's action has some effect on environment protection8. The author's main purpose in writing this passage is most probably to ____.A. complain about people's slow actions to protect the environmentB. advise people to take actions to protect the environmentC. show himself to be an active environment protectorD. point out the bad effects of technologies in protecting environment9. The author believes that carpooling can ____.A. give help to those without carsB. save people money and timeC. save energy resources and reduce air pollutionD. promote friendship among drivers10. The passage is mainly about ____.A. energy resources savingB. environment protectionC. population controlD. air pollutionPassage 3◎题型:材料题What should you think about in trying to find your career? You are probably better at some school subjects than others. These may show strengths that you can use in your work. A boy who is good at mathematics can use that in an engineering career. So it is important to know the subjects you do well in at school. On the other hand, you may not have any specially strong or weak subjects but your records show a general satisfactory standard. Although not all subjects can be used directly in a job, they may have indirect value. A knowledge of history is not required for most jobs but if history is one of your good subjects you will have learned to remember facts and details. This is an ability that can be useful in many jobs.If you have had a part-time job on Saturdays or in the summer, think what you gained from it. If nothing else, you may have learned how to get to work on time, to follow instructions and to get on with older workers. You may have learned to give correct change in a shop, for example. Just as important, you may become interested in a particular industry or career you see from the inside in a part-time job.Facing your weak points is also part of knowing yourself. You may be all thumbs when you handle tools; perhaps you are a poor speller or cannot add up a column of figures. It is bitter to face any weaknesses than to pretend they do not exist. Your school record, for instance, may not be too good, yet it is an important part of your background. You should not be apologetic about it but instead recognize that you will have a chance of a fresh start at work.题型:单选题11. Which of the following best sums up the first paragraph?A. The importance of doing well at school.B. Using school performance to help to choose a career.C. The importance of being good at all subjects.D. The indirect value of schoolwork.12. The writer thinks that for a student to have a part-time job is probably ______.A. a waste of time that could have been spent on studyB. useful for his future workC. a good way to earn extra moneyD. a good way to find out his weak points13. According to the passage, if a student's school record is not good, he ______.A. will be a complete failure in his future workB. will not be able to find a suitable jobC. will regret not having worked harder at schoolD. may do well in his future work14. Which subject is supposed to have no direct value for job hunting?A. Mathematics.B. English.C. Technical Drawing.D. History.15. The whole passage centers on ______.A. choosing a career according to what one is skilled inB. acquiring knowledge by working hard at schoolC. finding one's strong and weak pointsD. developing one's abilities useful in school workPassage 4◎题型:材料题The U.S. birthrate began to decline in the middle of the 1950s, resulting in a smaller college age population starting in the middle of the 1970s. Something else happened in the 1970s: the price of oil increased tremendously, driving up the price of almost everything and making Americans aware that their large automobiles used a lot of gasoline. At the same time, foreign car manufacturers had begun to produce small fuel efficient cars in large quantities for the export market.Suddenly, the large, gas guzzling American cars were no longer attractive to American buyers, who began buying foreign cars by the thousands. The American automobile industry went into a recession. Thousands of automotive workers were laid off, as were thousands of people in industries indirectly connected with the auto industry. People who are laid off tend to keep what money they have for necessities, like food and housing. They do not have the extra money needed to send their children to college. Their children cannot pay their own college costs, because during a recession they cannot find jobs. High unemployment means that more state funds must be used for social service—unemployment benefits and to aid dependent children, for example—than during more prosperous times. It also means that the states have fewer funds than usual, because people are paying fewer taxes.Institutions of higher education depend on two major sources of income to keep them functioning: tuition from students and funds from the states. At the present time, there are fewer students than in the past and fewer state funds available for higher education. The colleges and universities are in trouble.16. What is the main idea of this passage?A. The rising of oil price drove up the price of everything.B. There were many reasons why higher education was in trouble in the 1970s.C. Birthrate began to decline in the U.S. in the 1950s.D. High unemployment caused a lot of social problems.17 The phrase "laid off" can best be replaced by which of the following?A. Poor.B. Got rid of.C. Removed.D. Unemployed.18. American cars were not popular in their domestic markets because they were ____.A. smallB. gas-consumingC. fuel-efficientD. not attractive19. The colleges and universities were in trouble because of the following reasons except that____.A. they couldn't get enough income to keep them runningB. young people couldn't afford the tuition feesC. keeping them running at the same level would cost much moreD. social services need more state funds because of the recession20. All of the following statements are true EXCEPT ____.A. Young people couldn't afford their own tuition in the 1970sB. It was difficult for graduates from colleges to find a job in the 1970sC. Fewer parents could afford to send their children to college because of the recession inthe 1970sD. Birthrate dropped in the 1970s because of the recessionPart IV. Each passage is followed by 5 questions. For each question there are 4 choices marked A, B, C, and D. Please choose the best answer to the question. My point in writing this is to say it's OK to dream and dream big and talk about your dreams so that others are inspired to dream big too. What a world we would have if everyone did this!My dad was a dreamer. He told me that one day he was going to have a sailboat. We would go to the boat shows whenever they came to town and climb into them. My father would talk to the sales people and I would be busy pretending to sail the boat. He had outlived his wife but still lived in their neat home with bookcases near the fireplace he no doubt built. I asked one question and I didn’t move for hours. His story of leaving home to explore the world and learn a new trade was fascinating to my young mind. Therefore, I say dream... dream big dreams about your greatlife to come. I抦heading out toward my next one, how about you?11. Which statement .can best describe the saying ”dream can wonders for you” in Para 3?A. Our dream will come true one morning we wake up.B. Dreams can inspire us to make them a reality.C. We will live a better life once we have a dream.D. The more dreams you have, the greater you will be.14. The author has done the following explorations except ________.A. swimmingB. flying a plane from a lakeC. flying over a canyonD. sailing across an ocean15. However, even if such an animal does shed tears, there is no scientificevidence that the animal is expressing the tear-related emotions similar to those when humans cry.But what about when a baby chimp or ape whimpers and screams when it’s being separated from its mother, can we say with some certainty that the animal is crying? Taking away the babies does encourage care-giving such as feeding and protecting from the mother apes, but it is uncertain whether the baby apes feel the same way as baby humans do when they cry.In fact, it’s not clear that crying and other emotional displays mean exactly the same thing to all humans. For instance, there is a wide range of emotions that prompt people to cry, and some kinds of weeping, such as crying at a stranger’s wedding, seem to be cultural responses. In addition, some people are autistic. That means they prefer being alone than being with other people, especially in large crowds. These people are said to have less ability in expressing their emotions, but research also has shown that it’s more that their expressions and their reactions to the emotional expressions of others are unusual. Different. But does that mean that their sadness is different somehow? So even if apes can be said with some certainty to be feeling emotions, then there is the problem of figuring out to what extent what they feel resembles what humans feel.16. Crying means exactly the same thing to all humans.D. Because of cultural responses.20. It can be inferred from the passage that __________.A. it is uncertain to say to what extent apes feel the same emotions as humansB. it is sure that apes can feel emotionsC. some people prefer being alone because they’re not good at communicationD. people’s emotions are differentPassage ThreeEven though she’s quite young, Drew Barrymore can already be called a Hollywood legend. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't oldenough and we'll be more content when they are. After that we'refrustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We always tell ourselvesthat our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her acttogether. when we get a nice car, and are able to go on a nicevocation when we retire. The truth is, there's no better time than rightnow. If not now, when? Yur life will always be filled with challenges. It'sbest to admit this to ourselves and decide to be happy anyway. One ofmy favorite quotes comes from Alfred Souza. He said. "for a long time ithad seemed to me that life was about to begin-real life. But there wasalways some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Thenlife would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were mylife." This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way tohappiness. Happiness is the way. So treasure every moment that youhave and treasure it more because you share it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with ⋯ ans remember that time waits for no man. So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back toschool; until you lose ten pounds ,until you have husband and kids; untilyour kids leave the house; until you get a new car, until you retire.Happiness is a journey, not a destination. So, work like you don't needmoney, love like you've never been hurt before; Dance like no one'swatching.11. 作文1.Protecting the environment is everyone's responsibility! Protect the environment, start from me! This is a phrase we often hang in the mouth, but all talk, do not pretend. Some people often say that throwing a scrap of paper won't do much harm. But have they ever thought that if everyone had their ideas, then the nation of a billion people would lose a billion pieces of garbage? This will seriously damage the environment and affect human life. On the contrary, a person picked up a garbage can also get a small amount of spiritual comfort, to get the appreciation of others, then the garbage people will be difficult to have a clear conscience? It is our duty as citizens of the earth to pick up a piece of garbage, plant a small tree and protect a small grass. We live on the earth, we should contribute our share to the earth, at the same time, also for their own sake! Throw rubbish into the river, be equal to endanger the life of fish insect, can oneself conscience be safe? To cut down a small tree is to endanger the life of birds. Green, environmental protection and life is interest linked, do not wait until the earth has no birds and flowers, his life also dying - when only regret, because regret is too late!Green environmental protection, start from me! (已提交)参考答案:C问题解析:Every one of us is a mother, father, son or daughter - and we all have dreams - big and small. Unfortunately, too many of us keep these dreams to ourselves because we fear what others might say. My point in writing this is to say it's OK to dream and dream big and talk about your dreams so that others are inspired to dream big too. What a world we would have if everyone did this! My dad was a dreamer. He told me that one day he was going to have a sailboat. We would go to the boat shows whenever they came to town and climb into them. My father would talk to the sales people and I would be busy pretending to sail the boat. It was fun. Then one day we went to the boat place and took out a sailboat on the ocean, what a thrill! Soon afterwards hebought his first boat and named it "LETSGO" and we sailed and sailed big bays and seas around New England. When I was older I got to be the skipper because he not only told me his dream he showed it to me and let me taste the idea on my own. Now I was inspired to dream big too. You see dreams can do wonders for you. When you believe in your dreams, they take on a life of their own. Now you start dreaming up things to do to make your inspiration a reality. More dreams, more inspiration, then more dreams and a few more. Then one morning you wake up and the dream has come true. My dreams have taken me to so many beautiful places; I've been below the surface of the ocean watching the beauty of coral and fish as I swim by. When I hear some of their dreams it inspires me to think and dream how I might do that too. I interviewed a man some years ago who was 80-something years young. He was a sturdy man with the hands to match the story he told me. Hands still strong enough to crack the shells of the walnuts he offered me and munched on. He had outlived his wife but still lived in their neat home with bookcases near the fireplace he no doubt built. I asked one question and I didn’t move for hours. His story of leaving home to explore the world and learn a new trade was fascinating to my young mind. But it was after hearing his tale that I realized what he was really saying to me - not as an aspiring journalist but as a person. He told me he dreamed that he would have a great life and he had one, so, I could dream about having a great life and get one too. Just as my father had said to me earlier, here was another confirmation. I did just what they said to do, because I could do anything I wanted. Therefore, I say dream... dream big dreams about your great life to come. I?heading out toward my next one, how about you?11.(单选题) According to the author, people keep dreams to themselves because ________.A. they don’t think their dreams will come trueB. they don’t have time to realize their dreamsC. their parents don’t support themD. they fear what others might say答题: A. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We always tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together. when we get a nice car, and are able to go on a nice vocation when we retire. The truth is, there's no better time than right now. If not now, when? Yur life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to ourselves and decide to be happy anyway. One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred Souza. He said. "for a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin-real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life." This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you share it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with…ans remember that time waits for no man. So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school; until you lose ten pounds ,until you have husband and kids; until your kids leave the house; until you get a new car, until you retire. Happiness is a journey, not a destination. So, work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt before; Dance like no one's watching.11.(单选题) According to the passage, ________ make us feel frustrated.A. getting marriedB. having a babyC. taking care of kidsD. having one thing after another答题: A. All animals with mobile eyes have the ability to cry, just as we humans do. They have a tearing system that keeps their eyes wet so as to protect them from dry sand, dusts, and other elements. People often tell tales of animals such as elephants and dogs weeping when punished. However, even if such an animal does shed tears, there is no scientific evidence that the animal is expressing the tear-related emotions similar to those when humans cry. But what about when a baby chimp or ape whimpers and screams when it’s being separated from its mother, can we say with somecertainty that the animal is crying? Taking away the babies does encourage care-giving such as feeding and protecting from the mother apes, but it is uncertain whether the baby apes feel the same way as baby humans do when they cry. In fact, it’s not clear that crying and other emotional displays mean exactly the same thing to all humans. So even if apes can be said with some certainty to be feeling emotions, then there is the problem of figuring out to what extent what they feel resembles what humans feel.10.(单选题) What does the author mean by “Yes, and no”in line 1, paragraph 1?A.
