It alsomeant that the factory was much less efficient than it could have been. All the same, we should not be pessimistic (悲观的). More and more then modern world depends on having people who are in the job because they are good enough, not just because their faces fit. There is a story of a factory owner who sent for an engineer to see to a machine which would not go. He examined it, then took out a hammer and tapped, once. The machine started up immediately. Girls are thus seen as less valuable than boys and are kept at home to do housework while their brothers are sent to school, which results in trapping women in a vicious circle(恶性循环) of neglect(忽略).An educated mother, on the other hand, has greater earning abilities outside the home and faces a completely different set of choices. There were a lot of people traveling with her, so she felt much safer.A man sitting opposite her, reading a newspaper, glanced at her. She thought nothing of it until she saw him staring at her. For example, the leaves of the holly plant have sharp spines (刺) that discourage grasseating animals. Holly leaves on lower branches have more spines than leaves on upper branches. This is because the lower leaves are easier for most animals to reach. Some plants, such as the oak tree, have thick and hard leaves that are difficult for animals to eat. Some grasses may contain a sandy material; eating such grasses wears down the animal's teeth. Many plants also have chemical defenses. Some plants produce chemicals that taste bitter or cause an unpleasant reaction. Some plants may fight against an attack by increasing the production of these chemicals. 高中英语 Unit3 The secret of success How to achieve Su
How to achieve SuccessSuccess is something that everyone wants to achieve, but not everyone can make it even though he has tried his best. Why? I think the reason is that they haven't found the right way to success, so they don't know how to achieve success. In my opinion, there are three steps to success. The first one is to decide what you want and set a deadline. Knowing what you want is very important. Then try to decide exactly what it's the real thing you want in each part of your life and bee a "meaningful specific". After that, you should set a deadline for your goal. A deadline acts as a forcing system in your mind. It motivates you to do the things necessary to make your goal e true. If it's a big enough goal, set sub-deadlines as well. Don't leave this to chance.Making a list and organizing your list is the next step. As we know, making a list of everything that you can think of that you are going to have to do to achieve your goal can help you see the distance to success. Then organize your list into a plan. Decide what you will have to do first and what you will have to do second. Decide what is more important and what is less important. The last step is to take action. Remember: Practice makes perfect. Only thinking without action has no use for you to achieve success. When your preparation is all ready, you must take action to get your goal. In some cases, action means more than your thoughts. So do something every single day that moves you in the direction of your most important goals at the moment. These are three powerful steps that you can use to set and achieve your goals for the rest of your life. If you stick to them, I'm sure you'll be a success.。
