Eachpassage is followed by several questions.Respond to the questions usinginformation from the passage.Remember to write the answers on the answer sheet.Section A (10 marks)Questions 56—60 are based on the following passage. The term culture shock was introduced for the first time in 1958 to describe the anxiety produced when a person moves to a completely new environment. This term expresses the feeling of not knowing what to do or how to do things in a new environment. This term expresses the feeling of not knowing what to do or how to do things in a new environment. We can describe culture shock as the physical and emotional discomfort a person suffers when coming to live in a place different from the place of origin. Often, the way that we live before is not accepted or considered as normal in the new place. Everything is different, for example, not speaking the language, not knowing how to use banking machines, not knowing how to use telephones, and so forth. The symptoms of culture shock can appear at different times. Although a person can experience real pain from culture shock, it is also an opportunity for growing and learning new perspectives. Culture shock can help people develop a better understanding of themselves and stimulate personal creativity.Culture shock has many stages. Each stage can be ongoing, or appear only at certain times. In the first stage, the new arrival may feel very happy about all of the new experience. This time is called the honeymoon stage. Afterward, the second stage presents itself. A person may encounter some difficulties in daily life. For example, communication difficulties may occur, such as not being understood. In this stage, there may be feelings of impatience, anger and sadness. Transition between the old methods and those of the new country is a difficult process and takes time to complete. The third stage is characterized by gaining some understanding of the new culture. A new feeling of pleasure and sense of humor may be experienced.A person may start to feel a psychological balance. The individual is more familiar with the environment and wants to belong. This starts an evaluation of the old ways versus those of the new. In the fourth stage, the person realizes that the new culture has good and bad things to offer. This stage can be one of double integration or triple integration, depending on the number of cultures that the person has to process. This integration is characterized by a more solid feeling of belonging. The person starts to define himself or herself and establish goals for living. The fifth stage is the stage that is called the reentry shock. This occurs when a person returns to the newly acquired customs are considered improper in the old culture. Questions 56—60Complete the summary with words from the passage, changing the form where necessary, with only one word for each blank.Introduced in 1958, culture shock is a term used to (56) __________ physical and emotional discomfort people experience when they come to or live in a new place. Although many people suffer a lot from culture shock, it is an (57) _________ for personal improvement. The five stages of culture shock may last for a long time or show up once in a while. In the first stage, the (58) __________ stage, the new arrival might be OK with everything. Afterward, (59) ________ from old methods to the new one calls for time and energy. During the third and fourth stage, people may gain more understanding of the new culture and possess objective views. The double or triple integration is (60) __________ by a feeling of belonging. The last stage, called reentry shock, refers to the feeling people have when returning to their home country.Section B (10 marks)Questions 61-65 are based on the following passage. For some people, it would be unthinkable. But Gabe Henderson is finding freedom in a recent decision; he canceled his MySpace account. The 26 years old graduate student stopped his account after realizing that a lot of his online friends were really just acquaintances. “The superficial emptiness clouded the excitement I had once felt,” Henderson wrote in an article. “It seems we have lost, to some degree, the special depth that true friendship is about.”Journalism professor Michael Bugeja, who is a strong supporter offace-to-face communication, read Henderson’s column and saw it was a sign of hope. Though he’s not anti-technology, Bugeja often lectures students about “interpersonal intelligence”—knowing when, where, and for what purpose technology is most appropriate. He points out the students he’s seen walking across campus, holding hands with each other while talking on cell phones to someone else He’s also seen them in coffee shops, surrounded by people, but staring instead at a computer screen. “True friends,” he says, “need to learn when to stop blogging and go across campus to help a friend.”These days, young people are more wired than ever—but they’re also getting more worried. Increasingly, they’ve had to deal with online bullies, who are posting anything from embarrassing photos to online threats. And increasingly, young people also are realizing that things they post on their profiles can come back to hurt them when applying for schools or jobs. Social networking can be an “extremely effective” way to publicize events to large groups. It can even help build a sense of community on campus. People joined Facebook as a way to meet others. However, it has limitations.A good Internet profile could make even the most boring person seem some what interesting. People are also not always happy with text messages on the cell phones. Cell phones can be a quick way to say “have a good day”. But friends can also cancel a night out with a text message to avoid having to explain. “Our generation needs to get over this fear of confrontation and rejection.” Henderson says. “The focus needs to be on quality communication, in all ways.” Back in his life, Henderson is enjoying spending more face-to-face time with his friends and less with his computer. He says his decision to quit his social-networking Internet accounts was a good one. “I’m not sacrificing friends,” he says, “because if a picture, some basic information about their life and a Web page is all my friendship has become, then there was nothing to sacrifice to begin with.”Questions 61—63Decide whether the following statements are true (T) or false (F) according to the passage.61. Although Henderson quit MySpace, most of his online friends are actually close friends.62. According to Bugeja, young people should know when to use technology and when to stop using it.63. Social networking helps build a senseof community but has a negative effecton young people’s life if it is usedinappropriately.Questions 64—65Answer the following questions brieflyaccording to the passage.64. What does Henderson lose by usingsocial networking websites like Myspace65. What do young people need toovercome in order to focus on qualitycommunicationSection C (10 marks)Questions 66—70 are based on the following passage.“Five …Four …Three …Two …One …See ya! ” and Chance McGuire, twenty-five, is airborne off a 600 –foot concrete dam in Northern California. In one second he falls 15 feet, in two seconds 60 feet, and after three seconds and 130 feet, he is flying at 66 miles an hour.McGuire is a practitioner of what he calls the king of all extreme sports. BASE—an acronym for building, antenna, span (bridge) and earth (cliffs)—jumping has one of the sporting world’s highest fatality rates: in its18-year history, forty –six participants have been killed. Yet the sport has never been more popular, with more than a thousand jumpers in the United States, and more seeking to get into it every day. It is an activity without margin for error. If your chute malfunctions, don’t bother researching for a reserve—there isn’t time. There are no second chances.Still, the sport may be a perfect fit with the times. Americans may have more in common with McGuire than they know or care to admit. America has embarked on a national orgy of thrill seeking and risk taking. The rise of adventure and extreme sports such as BASE jumping, snowboarding, ice climbing, skateboarding, and paragliding is merely the most vivid manifestation of this new national behavior. The rising popularity of extreme sports speaks of an eagerness on the part of millions of Americans to participate in activities closer to the edge, where danger, skill, and fear combine to give weekend warriors and professional athletes alike a sense of pushing out personal boundaries. According to American Sports Data Inc., a consulting firm, participation in so-called extreme sports is way up. Snowboarding has grown 113 percent in five years and now boasts nearly 5.5 million participants. Mountain hiking, skateboarding, scuba diving—their growth curves reveal a nation that loves to play with danger. Contrast that with activities such as baseball, touch football, and aerobics, all of which were in steady decline throughout the 1990s.The pursuits that are becoming more popular have one thing in common: the perception that they are somehow more challenging than a game of touch football. “Every human being with two legs and two arms is going to wonder how fast, how strong, how enduring he or she is,” says Eric Perlman, a mountaineer and film maker specializing in extreme sports. “We are designed to experience or die.”Questions 66—68Complete the following sentences with information given in the passage ina maximum of 4 words for each blank.66. _______ rates doesn’t stop people from getting into BASE jumping every day.67. The rise of extreme sports manifests the national behavior of _______ and ________.68. The combination of fear, skill and danger gives both amateurs and professionals a sense of ______.Questions 69—70Choose the best answer according to the passage.69. Which of the following activities reveals a nation that loves to play activities closer to the edgeA. Touch football.B. Baseball.C. Scuba diving.D. Aerobics.70. What does Eric mean by saying “We are designed to experience or die”A. Life with great challenges is a meaningful one.B. Life without great experiences is very common.C. People may die while doing extreme sports.D. Extreme sports are essential parts of human life.Section D (10 marks)Questions 71—75 are based on the following passage.Albert Einstein was one of the greatest thinkers the world has ever known. He formulated theories of relativity, successfully described the nature of the universe and came up with the most famous equation in the world. David Beckham is the footballer whose skills and precision have made him one of the most gifted sportsmen of his generation. Who is more intelligent How Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences (MI) dares us to put these two men on neighboring pedestals. Instead of regarding intelligence as a single quantity measurable by pen-and-paper tests, Gardner, an education professor at Harvard University, divides human intelligence into no fewer than eight separate categories ranging from mathematical to musical competence. (74)His ideas have provoked vigorous debate about how one defines intelligence. Gardner’s point is that quantity measures only one capacity, the sort of mental agility that is valued in academic achievement, and that this single number does not do justice to human potential. So he has created his own spheres of achievement. Some categories are easily reconcilable with general perceptions about IQ. For example, “linguistic”intelligence confers a mastery of language, and is the preserve of such people as poets, writers and linguists. “Logical mathematical” intelligence marks out people who take a reasoning approach to physical things, and seek underlying principles. Einstein is the standard –bearer of this group, which also includes philosophers. These two categories are the main components of what we generally think of as “intelligence”.“Musical” intelligence characterizes musicians, composers and conductors. “Spatial” intelligence is about being able to picture perspective, to visualize a world in one’s head with great accuracy. Chess players, artists and architects would rate highly in this category. Dancers, athletes and actors are lumped under the “bodily-kinesthetic” heading; these individual, like Beckham, are able to control their bodies and movements very carefully. Then come two types of “personal” intelligence-intrapersonal, the ability to gauge one’s own mood, feelings and mental states, and interpersonal, being able to gauge it in others and use the information. These two categories could be interpreted as emotional intelligence. Psychiatrists are particularly adept at the former, while religious leaders and politicians are seen as people who can exploit the latter.Charles Darwin is perhaps the perfect embodiment of the eighth intelligence –“naturalist”. This label describes people with a deep understanding of the natural world and its objects. Zoologists and botanists can count themselves among this group.(75)These eight categories certainly reflect the fact that, in these areas, there is a spectrum of human ability ranging from the hopeless to the brilliant. But are these really intelligences, or could these competences be more accurately described as gifts or talentsQuestions 71—73Answer the following questions briefly according to the passage.71. What are the main components of “intelligence” we generally think of72. What kind of abilities does emotional intelligence involve73. Which intelligences are represented by Einstein and Beckham respectivelyQuestions 74—75Translate the underlined sentences in the passage into Chinese.74. His ideas have provoked vigorous debate about how one defines intelligence.75. These eight categories certainly reflect the fact that, in these areas, there is a spectrum of human ability ranging from the hopeless to the brilliant.Part V Translation (10 marks)Translate the following sentences into English, using the hints given in brackets. Some people say the Chinese were the first to start it, others believe it was the ancient Germans, and still others claim it was the Romans. We know that the Chinese have always had a great festival at the time of their New Year, which comes later than ours. The Chinese New Year festival lasts several days. The ancient Germans established a New Year festival because of the changing seasons. The German winter began in about the middle of November. It was the time when they gathered the harvest. Because everybody came together at this time for the happy occasion, and because it meant they would have a period of rest from work afterwards. They would make merry and have a great holiday. Even though it was November, they considered it the beginning of the New Year! When the Romans conquered Europe, they changed this time of celebration to the first of January. From then on the coming of the New Year was a symbol of a new life with new hope for the future. This custom and this meaning have lasted to this day. We celebrate the New Year hoping it will bring us a good life.Questions 21 to 23 are based on the passage you have just heard.21. This speed was imposed in 1973 when fuel shortages became crucial. Seventy-five percent of the persons surveyed think that the law is a good one. They point to the decrease in the highway death rate or to the saving of fuel as reasons for their opinion. Easterners and older people, rather than young adults, are more likely to argue for retention of the law.Likewise, only 23 percent of the people surveyed favor a higher speed limit for trucks. The trucking industry contends that truck engines work more efficiently at higher speeds and that trucks traveling at higher speeds reach markets more quickly, thereby saving consumers money. Some of the persons polled argue that trucks on certain highways are already involved in a disproportionate number of fatal highway accidents. Questions 24 to 26 are based on the passage you have just heard.24. What was the principle reason for the originalimposition of the 55-mile-per-hour speed limit?25. Which of the following are less likely to favor retaining the 55-mile-per-hour speed limit?26. Why do truckers want a higher speed limit for trucks? Passage ThreeNow, we’ll bring you a special news bulletin. The three astronauts have splashed down safely in the Pacific Ocean, a hundred and forty-five miles southwest of Hawaii, only six miles from the aircraft carrier that was dispatched for the recovery mission. The space module floated down on three parachutes and landed right-side-up in the water.Mission Control in Houston confirmed that Parachutes and landing systems had functioned properly. Mission Control has advised that the astronauts to remain inside the module until they are lifted aboard the aircraft carrier. An air force helicopter is already hovering above the module and seven divers are in the process of attaching lines to the spacecraft. The astronauts have returned after fifteen days in space. Possibly one of the most important accomplishments of this mission was the extensive photographing of the Sun’s surface. After two days of physical examinations and observation, the astronauts will fly to Houston to reunite with their families.Ladies and Gentlemen, we have confirmation that the astronauts are now aboard the aircraft carrier. points)Section A Multiple Choice(10 points)Directions:There is one reading passage in this part. The passage is followed by 5 questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A,B,C and D.You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre.Questions 71 to 75 are based on the following passage:Taking a peep at what's going on in your headCARL Filer,18,a star salesman at a B&Q hardware store in the UK,was called up for promotion within one week of starting work. But,instead of being made supervisor,he was sacked—after his employers saw the results of his psychometric test. You might think that anyone who answers that he“strongly disagrees he is an over-achiever is asking for trouble, but Mr Filer already thought he had proved himself more than capable. This year, nearly half of UK firms—46 percent—will use psychometric tests to select trainees, compared with just 17 percent in 2000,according to a report for GTI,a publisher of graduate career guides. These tests, which rate candidates’ability and gauge their personality, have been used in the UK since the 1980s.But assorted studies have shown most people—graduates in particular—are wholly cynical about the idea of their personality being“measured.“People tend to see them as either too silly or too clever, says Clive Fletcher, professor of occupational psychology at University of London.“But all the evidence indicates the tests do have some value. The first personality test as we know it,was developed by the American army in 1917 to filter out weak recruits. But it was not until the 1980s that the tests became popular in Britain. With a rising number of graduates going for a decreasing number of jobs, organizations began to see psychometric testing asa cheap, reliable alternative to the expensive,time-consuming interview. But today the tests are becoming alarmingly sophisticated and are edging towards probing the“dark side:pathology and personality disorders.Increasingly, tests are being used to try to detect promising young graduates who may, later in life, fly off the rails(go crazy);or to stop psychopaths(having mental disorder)getting recruited. In the future, interviewees could even be given a mouth swab to reveal the genetic and biological markers of personality.“We are heading for the era of genetic screening,”warns Carolyn Jones,of the Institute for Employment Rights.“I think these tests are very flawed. And there are other problems with the tests. For starters,it is possible to fake it—even the test producers agree on this. But they have made it as hard as possible. For example, look at whether you agree or disagree with the following two statements:“New ideas come easily to me and“I find generating new concepts difficult. How long did it take you to realize they both could mean the same thing? The main argument, however,is that the tests are invalid and cannot quantify(put a numerical value on)something as changeable as personality. The golden rule is then, that a psychometric test should never be used as the sole basis of selection, but should always be followed by interviews.71.Most people's attitude towards the psychometric test is ______.A.contemptuous B.favorable C.tolerant D.confounded72.Which of the following is one of the reasons why psychometric testing wins an advantage over interviews?A.It doesn't cost any money.B.It requires no equipment.C.It is time-saving.D.It can be done within seconds.73.Which of the following statements is the author's idea?A.Psychometric tests are defective.B.Psychometric tests should not be the only way to recruit promising young graduates.C.Psychometric tests are invalid and cannot quantify something changeable as personality.D.Psychometric tests are golden rules.74.The test producers make the tests very complicated to ______.A.avoid cheating B.improve genetic screeningC.find out the best ideas D.generate new concepts75.Which of the following is not true according to the passage?A.The American army developed the first personality test to screen out weak recruits.B.In the future, interviewers could give a mouth swab to reveal interviewees’symptoms.C.There are possibilities for starters to cheat in the psychometric tests.D.Interviews still play an important role in evaluating interviewees.Section B Short Answer Questions(30 points)Directions:In this part there are 3 passages with 15 questions or incomplete statements.Read the passages carefully. Then answer the questions in the fewest possible words(not exceeding 10 words).Remember to rewrite the answers on the Answer Sheet.Questions 76 to 80 are based on the following passage:The 8 Steps of Social Invention1.Get ready to play.Like other types of creativity, social inventiveness flourishes when you begin thinking outsideconventional boundaries.Charlie Girsch,a St.Paul,Minnesota-based creativity consultant, suggests that you start by playing with obviously absurd explanations for everyday events.“If traffic is slow, you'll be tem pted to say,‘Hmm.Must be an accident up ahead.’Instead, try saying,‘Must be a family of turtles crossing the highway’or‘I expect there's some kind of alien abduction going on.’You'll be amazed how soon you will be looking at familiar problems in new ways.”Girsch's book,Fanning the Creative Spirit(Creativity Central,1999)has scores of other exercises for limbering up the inventive part of your brain.2.Generate a zillion far-fetched ideas.Concerned about the homeless in your neighborhood?Imagine a Homeless Parliament,a Homeless Circus, homeless families forming an orchestra,a homeless museum ...and on and on.Generate like mad with no regard for feasibility in order,as social invention pioneer Nicholas Albery advises,to“overcome e worthy-but-dull ideas.”Eventually the two or three best ideas will begin to stand out.3.Take your wildest idea and bring it down to earth. How about that Homeless Circus?Could it turn into a forum for homeless people to display their creative talents?A performance series about homelessness?A neighborhood carnival with the homeless as guests of honor?Your flakiest idea may have a germ of brilliance that actually makes it more attractive, and thus more feasible(and fundable),than its worthy-but-dull cousins.4.Look for in venations that solve more than one problem. The Slow Food Movement, born in Italy, boosts local farmers and regional cuisine traditions and restaurateurs and the same time that it“feeds”our hunger for authentic tastes, healthy eating, and a more leisurely, saner style of life.5.Accentuate the positive.“A very common question that I get when I work with people in communities is‘Why doesn't anybody care about our problems?’”notes M chael Patterson,a social inventor and activist in Massachusetts.“What a worthless question.‘Why’?questions are for philosophers.Ask‘How’?and‘What’?questions—they are a lot more practical.”For instance,Patterson asks,“What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?”6.Give it a rest.Walk away from your favorite idea for a while, forget about it,let it sleep. With your conscious mind out of the way, your subconscious gets to fiddle with the concept for a while, and you just might have an unexpected insight or breakthrough.7.Practice“yes and”in stead of“yes but”.No matter how tempted you are to say“Yes,but this will be hard because,”or“Yes,but a million other people are doing this,”shift the conjunction to“and”and see what sort of positive refinement or change emerges.“Yes,and we could concentrate on immigrants.”“Yes,and we can make it open to all ages.”8.Get your idea into the world. This is the tough part. You might seek out the help of activists who will take a shine to your ideas.Or become an organizer yourself.Paul Glove,a New York social inventor,coun-sels:“If you have an idea you believe in,write a pamphlet with your phone number on it and post it in Laundromats and bookstores. If three people call you, have lunch with them and call yourselves an organization. If five people call, meet with them and issue a press release.”Presto, you're launched.76.To generate far-fetched ideas helps to ______.77.Michael Patterson wants us to come up with“How”?and“What”?instead of“Why”?questionsbecause he considers they are more practical than ______.78.The purpose to practice“yes and”instead of“yes but”is to make yourself more ______.79.According to the article, when one has difficulty developing his favorite idea,he should ______.80.One should not only generate far-fetched ideas but also ______ because the latter step is the nearest to reality.Questions 81 to 85 are based on the following passage:Thin Slice of TV Has Big MarketIt is too early to write an obituary for bulky picture tubes, which will remain the most affordable TV sets for years to come. But,analysts and industry executives insist that thin screens already have started to become the dominant format for TV sets in the digital era.Sharp price cuts have brought plasma sets and other thin, flat televisions out of high-end electronic boutiques and into thousands of mass-market outlets such as Cosco,a wholesale buying club in the US,best known for offering members bulk items and big discounts. The least expensive plasma sets still cost a hefty US $3,000or more ,yet sales are growing so rapidly that many manufacturers are racing to boost production. That increase, combined with expanding production capacity and improved technology, could push the price of plasma sets down by one-third next year, according to analyst Richard Doherty of Envisioneering Group,a US research firm. But manufacturers are not just competing with each other;they are also trying to fend off challenges from competing thin-screen technologies, such as liquid crystal displays(LCD).The demand for thin screens is fuelled in part by the advent of DVDs and digital TV broadcasts, which offer more detailed pictures and more lifelike colors than conventional analog TV signals. To see the difference, consumers need a set that can pack more information onto the screen than their current TVs can. This sharpness is most vivid on screens that are 40inches diagonal or larger. At that size, however, traditional direct view and projection TVs are so bulky that many consumers have trouble finding a place for them at home.Hence the interest in thin screens—models slender and light enough to hang on a wall. The glass panels at the heart of plasma and LCD sets come mainly from about a dozen companies with factories in Japan,South Korea and, increasingly,China.About 800,000 plasma panels will be shipped this year around the world, analysts say. That is a tiny amount compared with the overall market for TVs,which was about 140 million sets last year. But,industry experts said 2003would be a“breakout year”or plasma because shipments should double.Helping drive the growth are new or expanded manufacturing facilities. For example,Japanese electronics giant NEC last year doubled the capacity of its Japanese factory—reaching 300,000to 400,000 plasma panels. And it plans to double it 2006年全国ⅱ卷高考英语作文
2006年全国ⅱ卷高考英语作文全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Hi! My name is Tommy and I'm 10 years old. My teacher asked me to write about the English test thingy for the big kids who wanna go to university. I don't really know much about it, but I'll try my best!Last year, my big sister Sarah took this test. She's really smart and always gets good grades. But before the test, she was super stressed out! She studied like crazy for months. Every night, I could hear her muttering English words and sentences under her breath as she pored over her books. Sometimes, she'd ask me to quiz her on vocabulary or grammar rules. I didn't understand most of it, but I tried my best to help. The day of the test, Sarah woke up super early. Like, the sun wasn't even up yet! She got dressed in her fancy school uniform and scarfed down a quick breakfast. My parents kept telling her "You've got this!" and "Just do your best!" But Sarah looked really nervous. Her hands were shaking a little as she packed her pencil case. After what felt like forever, Sarah came home. She looked exhausted, like she'd just run a marathon! I asked her how it went, and she said it was really tough. Apparently, there were listening sections where you had to answer questions about audio recordings. Sarah's pretty good at listening, but she said some of the accents were really hard to understand. There was also a section on reading comprehension, where you had to read long passages and answer questions about them. Sarah said some of the vocabulary was super advanced and confusing. But the part Sarah dreaded most was the writing section. She had to write a whole essay, all in English! Can you imagine? I can barely write a short story in my own language, let alone an entire essay in English. Sarah said the essay prompts were all about really serious topics, like environmental issues or social problems. She had to come up with a clear thesis, provide evidence and examples, and write in a formal, academic style. No slang or casual language allowed! After Sarah finished, she looked like she wanted to cry. But our parents hugged her tight and told her they were proud of her no matter what. A few weeks later, Sarah's results came in the mail. She passed! We all cheered and had a little celebration. Sarah felt so relieved.Even though I'm just a kid, I have a lot of respect for students like my sister who work so hard for the college entrance exam. The English test seems incredibly difficult, with all those listening, reading, and writing sections. I don't know if I could handle that kind of pressure when I'm older. But I'm glad there are smart, determined students out there who take it on. Maybe Sarah will become an English teacher someday and make the tests a little easier for future students. A kid can dream, right?Anyway, that's my extremely unprofessional take on the whole college entrance English exam thing. I probably got a bunch of stuff wrong, but hey, I tried! Let me know if you need me to write about anything else. I'll use my best 10-year-old vocabulary!篇2My Big Summer Adventure!Hi there! My name is Timmy and I'm 10 years old. I just had the most exciting summer ever and I can't wait to tell you all about it! Buckle up because this is gonna be one wild ride.It all started on the last day of school. I was sooo happy that summer vacation was finally here! No more homework, no more waking up early, and no more cafeteria mystery meat (yuck!). Myparents surprised me and said we were going on a big road trip to visit my aunt and uncle who live on the other side of the country. I'd never been that far away from home before so I was really nervous but also super pumped! We packed up the car with all our stuff - my soccer ball, comic books, snacks for the road, you name it. Then we hit the road bright and early the next morning. My little sister Susie wouldn't stop singing "100 Bottles of Milk on the Wall" which drove me crazy at first. But after a while, I started joining in because it was kinda fun! After what felt like forever, we finally stopped for the night at this really cool motel with a giant pool shaped like a lake. My dad did a cannonball into the deep end and made the biggest splash ever! We had a blast swimming and goofing around. I didn't want the night to end.The next few days were awesome too. We saw so many cool roadside attractions like the World's Largest Jackalope, a house made completely out of bottles, and these crazy cool rock formations that looked like dinosaurs. We took about a million pictures of everything. Whenever we'd get back in the car, Susie and I would rate which stop was the coolest so far. It was tough because they were all so awesome in their own ways! Then we hit some bad weather - thunderstorms, hail, you name it. It was a little scary to be driving in that crazy mess. We had to pull over for a bit and grab some food at this dinky little diner. But it ended up being way better than any fancy restaurant because the pie was hands down the most delicious thing I've ever tasted. We all dug in and had a grand old time swapping funny road trip stories while we waited out the storm. When we finally made it to my aunt and uncle's place, I was exhausted from the drive but sooo happy to see them. They live on this huge ranch with horses, cows, chickens, and even a couple llamas! Over the next few weeks, my cousins showed me how to ride a horse (I was a natural, obviously), milk the cows, and collect eggs from the chicken coop. We went on tons of adventures exploring the ranch, splashing around in the creek, and just running around being crazy kids. We even managed to give the llamas some silly hairdos one day when my aunt wasn't looking. Whoops! One of the coolest things was stargazing at night. You could see about a billion more stars out there compared to back home. My uncle taught me how to find all the constellations and I even spotted a shooting star! We made s'mores around the campfireand told spooky stories that kept us up half the night. Best. Sleepover. Ever.Too soon, it was time to head back home. I was really sad to leave the ranch but sooo happy I got to have such an awesome adventure with my family. The drive home flew by as we looked back at all of our pics and videos from the trip. We stopped at some silly roadside shops to stock up on souvenirs and snacks for the road. I may or may not have convinced my parents to get me a lasso after watching me attempt to wrangle up those llamas...When we finally made it back to our house, I ran up to my room and tossed my dirty clothes everywhere as I unpacked (sorry Mom!). I couldn't wait to show my friends all the cool stuff I brought back and tell them stories about riding horses, eating world-famous pie, and exploring off-the-beaten-path gems along the way. This was a summer I'll never forget!Well, there you have it - the tale of my big summer road trip adventure! We made so many incredible memories as a family. And I learned that the journey really can be just as much fun as the destination, as long as you keep an open mind and bottle that spirit of exploration. Maybe next year we'll go on across-country train篇3My Awesome School LifeHi there! My name is Lily and I'm a 5th grader at Sunshine Elementary School. I just love being a student here - school is so much fun! Let me tell you all about my awesome school life.First up, my favorite subject is science class. We get to do the coolest experiments! Last week, we made little erupting volcanoes with baking soda, vinegar, dish soap and food coloring. It was so awesome watching them bubble up and spew out the red "lava"! I think I might want to be a scientist when I grow up so I can keep experimenting and figuring out how the world works.Recess time is the best part of the day though. I love running around on the playground with my friends. We play tag, jump rope, tetherball, you name it! Sometimes we even bring sidewalk chalk to draw enormous candy landscapes and pretend we've shrunk down tiny. My bestie Emma and I will spend the whole recess playing make-believe and being silly. We crack each other up so much!I'm also really into art class. Getting messy with paints, clay and glue is just the greatest! A few weeks ago, we learned aboutsculpting with Model Magic. I made this goofy looking dragon that now lives on my bedside table at home. It's not the best sculpture ever, but I'm proud of my crazy creation. Art lets me use my imagination and get creative in a different way than writing stories.Speaking of writing, English is probably my favorite academic subject. I just love reading the cool books we get to explore, like Where the Wild Things Are and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Books open up entire new worlds to discover! For our latest writing assignment, I got to pen a magical fantasy tale about a young girl who finds a secret doorway to a candy kingdom. My teacher Ms. Martin said she really enjoyed how descriptive and imaginative my story was. I glowed with pride after that! Then there's gym class...ugh, my least favorite! I'm just not very athletic or coordinated. Whether it's dodgeball, basketball, soccer or whatever, I'm always the last one picked for team sports. I get all sweaty having to run around and I'm honestly kind of clumsy. Coach Thompson is always yelling at me "Keep your eye on the ball, Lily!" But hey, at least gym gives me a chance to blow off some energy and stay active.Another thing I really dislike about school? The icky cafeteria food! It looks so gross and unappetizing most days. Just thinking about those gloopy, grayish mashed potatoes andbrownish-green mystery vegetables makes my stomach churn. I usually just pick at a fruit cup and package of saltine crackers then wait until I get home to eat a real snack. My lunch box with fun snacks from home is way better!Overall though, I absolutely love being a student at Sunshine Elementary. I have great buddies to goof around with, awesome teachers who keep things interesting, and I'm learning so much every single day! From science experiments to art projects to reading cool books, my days are filled with engagement and joy. Even with a couple downsides like gym class and yucky lunches, school life is pretty awesome when you're a kid. These are supposed to be the best days of our lives, so I'm just trying to soak up every second! I know I'll look back so fondly on all these amazing elementary school memories. Excuse me now while I go build another exploding Model Magic volcano...safe volcanic eruptions for the win!篇4My Day at SchoolHi there! My name is Tommy and I'm a fourth-grader at Sunny Elementary School. Today was a really fun day at school, and I want to tell you all about it!The day started like usual. Mom woke me up at 7 o'clock, and I had my favorite breakfast – pancakes with lots of syrup and a big glass of orange juice. After getting dressed in my school uniform, I grabbed my backpack and headed out the door. The school bus picked me up at 8 o'clock sharp. When I got to school, the first thing I did was hang up my backpack in my locker and meet up with my best friend, Sammy. We always spend a few minutes before class starts playing on the playground. Today, we played a quick game of tag. I'm faster than Sammy, so I won!The bell rang at 8:30, which meant it was time for our first class of the day – math. I really like math because I'm good at adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing numbers. Our teacher, Mrs. Johnson, is really nice too. She always makes math fun by giving us little puzzles and games to play. After math, we had reading class. We're currently reading a book called "Charlotte's Web" about a pig named Wilbur and his friend, a spider named Charlotte. It's a really cute story, but some parts are kind of sad. I don't want to spoil it for you, though!Next up was science class with Mr. Parker. He's my favorite teacher because he always does the coolest experiments. Today, we learned about volcanos by making our own mini volcano models out of baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring. It was so awesome watching the "lava" ooze out of the top! Science is definitely my favorite subject. We had a short recess after science class. Sammy and I played on the swings and the monkey bars. I can swing really high and do cool tricks. Sammy is too scared to swing that high, but that's okay. We still had lots of fun together. When the recess bell rang, it was time for art class with Mrs. Garcia. We learned about different painting techniques and got to make our own paintings using Q-tips and tempera paints. I made a really pretty picture of a sunset over the ocean. Art class is always so relaxing. Finally, the last class of the day was music with Mrs. Miller. She taught us a new song called "The Green Grass Grew All Around" and we got to play along on our xylophones and tambourines. Music is another one of my favorite classes because I love singing and playing instruments. Mrs. Miller even lets us make up silly dance moves to go along with the songs! At 3 o'clock, it was time to go home. I met up with Sammy again and we walked to the bus loop together. We talked about our favorite parts of the day and made plans to have a sleepover this weekend. Once I got home, I had a snack, did my homework, played outside for a little bit, had dinner with my family, took a bath, and then got ready for bed. What a fun and busy day at school!Even though I'm just a kid, I really love learning new things every single day. School can be challenging sometimes, but my teachers and friends make it so enjoyable. I feel very lucky to be a student at Sunny Elementary. I can't wait to see what adventures tomorrow will bring!篇5My Day at the Exam HallWow, the big day finally came! Yesterday was the English exam for the national college entrance test. I'm just a little kid in elementary school, but my big brother was taking the exam, so I got to tag along and see what it was like. It was super exciting! We had to wake up really early, like when it was still dark outside. My brother was pretty nervous, but Mom made hisfavorite dumplings for breakfast to cheer him up. Once we were all ready, we piled into Dad's car and headed to the exam hall. There were so many people there! Hundreds of students dressed in their school uniforms, along with their families. The exam hall was this huge building that kind of looked like a castle. We had to go through a security check before going inside. The nice security guards asked us to open our bags and checked with a metal detector wand thingy to make sure nobody brought anything they shouldn't have.Once we were allowed in, we followed the signs to the giant auditorium where the English exam would be held. It was even bigger than the auditorium at my school! There were so many desks and chairs all perfectly lined up. An authoritative-looking lady with a microphone told everyone where to sit according to their exam numbers that were printed on these hard cardboard name tents on each desk.My brother got seated somewhere in the middle, so Mom, Dad and I found some empty seats along the side to watch. We had to be really quiet so we didn't disturb the exam takers. The auditorium slowly filled up until there wasn't an empty seat left. I've never seen so many people in one room before! Finally, the strict-looking teachers who would be proctoring the exam came in carrying big boxes of test papers and No. 2 pencils. They passed them out very carefully, making sure each student got the right test booklet. You could hear a pin drop, it was so quiet as everyone waited for instructions. Then the head proctor, this older man with a booming voice, welcomed everyone and went over all the rules. He reminded the students not to cheat or make any noise, keep their eyes on their own papers, and that they had exactly three hours to complete the English exam. Three whole hours?! That's like an entire morning of endless spelling tests at my school. When he yelled "Begin!" everyone frantically started flipping through the test booklets and scribbling with their pencils. I couldn't actually see the test questions, but some of the students' facial expressions looked really confused and worried.A few kids raised their hands to ask the proctors walking around for help or clarification on a question.Three hours felt like forever! Some students finished way earlier than others and just had to wait silently at their desks with their heads down. My brother was one of the last ones to turn in his booklet, like five minutes before time was finally up. Whenthe head proctor shouted "Stop writing!" he jumped in his seat a little. After that, the proctors collected all the test papers and pencils while everyone stayed seated. They made a big deal about counting and securely boxing up the tests before any students could leave. Finally, we were allowed to exit in an orderly line. My brother looked super relieved to be done, but also really tired like he had just run a marathon! We gave him big hugs and high fives for working so hard.On the car ride home, Mom and Dad took my brother out for a celebratory lunch at his favorite pizza place. He got to order anything he wanted off the menu as a reward. While we were eating, he told us how the reading comprehension passages were really difficult, but he felt okay about the other sections like grammar and vocabulary. He said he wished there was more time for the essay writing part at the end.Overall, it was such a cool experience getting to see the big English exam in person! The whole thing was very serious and intense, but I got a glimpse of what I'll have to look forward to when I'm older. I just need to keep studying hard in school. Although watching for three hours straight gave me a new appreciation for how patient篇6My Summer VacationHi there! My name is Li Ming and I'm 10 years old. I just finished the 4th grade and I had the best summer vacation ever this year! I want to tell you all about it.It started out kind of boring at first. My parents both work a lot, so for the first few weeks I was just hanging around the house a lot playing video games and watching TV. That was fun for a little while, but after a couple weeks I got really bored of doing the same old thing every day. Then my mom said we were going to go visit my grandparents in the countryside for a few weeks. I wasn't too excited about that at first because their house is pretty old and there's not much to do there besides help out on their little farm. But it turned out to be way more fun than I thought it would be!When we first got there, my grandpa put me to work right away feeding the chickens and pigs and helping him out in the veggie garden. I kind of groaned about having to do chores at first, but then I realized how cool it was to see where our food actually comes from. We collected eggs from the chickens, picked ripe tomatoes and cucumbers, and I even got to milk the cow!My grandma taught me how to cook some really yummy dishes with the fresh veggies and eggs we gathered. We made dumplings, fried rice, and even a delicious egg foo young dish. Grandma said I was a natural in the kitchen! The best part was that we got to eat the food we prepared with ingredients straight from their little farm.Aside from the farm work, my grandparents also taught me lots of other cool stuff on their vacation. Grandpa showed me how to fish in the little stream behind their house. We would wake up early before sunrise, trudge down to the stream through the tall grass, and wait patiently for the fish to start biting. It took a lot of practice but eventually I got good at it and even caught a couple big ones!My grandma was really good at traditional Chinese arts and crafts. She taught me how to do calligraphy using a bamboo brush and ink stone. It was so hard to get the brush strokes just right, but she was a great teacher and I didn't get too frustrated. By the end of our stay, I had made my own handwritten scrolls with cool sayings and poems on them.Grandma also showed me the traditional embroidery skills her mother had taught her. We spent several days working together on an embroidered wall-hanging with beautiful flowers and birds stitched into the fabric. It took a lot of concentration and patience, but I was really proud of how my section of the wall-hanging turned out in the end. When we weren't busy with farm chores, fishing, calligraphy or embroidery, there was still plenty to keep me entertained on my grandparent's vacation. I spent hours exploring the open fields, forests and streams around their little village. I went on long walks with my grandpa and he taught me all about the different plants, trees and animals we saw. I caught cool bugs like praying mantis and watched baby bunnies hopping around. Some days we would go on mini hiking adventures up into the mountains near their village. The scenery was just breathtaking up there! We packed simple lunches of rice balls and veggies and ate them while enjoying the incredible views from the mountain tops. I had never seen views like that living in the crowded city.On a couple of the nights during our stay, my grandparents' village hosted outdoor activities that were a blast. One night there was a traditional Chinese opera performed in the townsquare that was really interesting and colorful, with such ornate costumes and music. Another night they had folk dancing where all the villagers participated, with a live band playing. I even got out there and tried a couple of the simpler dances which was so much fun.Towards the end of our visit, there was a village festival that celebrated the summer harvest season. My grandparents' village went all-out for this thing! There were booths set up selling tasty snacks and playing games to win prizes. There was also live entertainment like acrobats and a Chinese yo-yo performer who could do amazing tricks. The best part was the Dragon Dance performed by dozens of villagers carrying this huge, elaborate dragon costume while music played. It was so cool to watch! On our final night in the village, the entire community gathered for。
