Coding and categorization of recurring themes, patterns, and insights will be performed toidentify common motivational elements, challenges, and best practices. The findings from both quantitative and qualitative analyses will be triangulated and synthesized to provide a comprehensive understanding of the motivations and driving forces behind English language learning among elementary school students.Expected Outcomes and Implications:This research endeavor holds the potential to contribute valuable insights to the field of English language education, particularly in the context of elementary school students. By identifying the motivational factors that fuel young learners' enthusiasm for English language acquisition, educators and policymakers can develop targeted strategies and initiatives to nurture and sustain their learning motivation. The findings may inform the design of engaging and student-centered curricula, the implementation of effective teaching methodologies, and the creation of supportive learning environments that cater to the unique needs and motivations of elementary school students. Additionally, this research can shed light on the role of parental and cultural influences, enabling the development of collaborative approaches that involve families and communities in the English language learning process.Ultimately, by understanding and addressing the motivations and driving forces behind English language learning among elementary school students, this research aims to contribute to the overall improvement of English language education, fostering a generation of young learners who are not only proficient in English but also passionate about lifelong learning and personal growth.篇2Title: Exploring the Motivational Factors Driving English Language Learning Among Elementary School StudentsAbstract:Motivation plays a pivotal role in the language learning process, especially for young learners. This research proposal aims to investigate the intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors that influence English language learning among elementary school students. By understanding these factors, educators and policymakers can develop effective strategies to foster a positive learning environment and enhance students' engagement in acquiring a second language.Introduction:In today's globalized world, proficiency in English has become increasingly important for personal and professional growth. Elementary school is a critical stage where students begin their journey of learning a new language, and their motivation during this period can shape their attitudes and performance in the long run. This study seeks to explore the motivational factors that drive elementary school students to learn English, including both intrinsic and extrinsic factors.Literature Review:The literature review will provide a comprehensive overview of existing research on motivation in language learning, with a specific focus on studies conducted in the context of elementary education. Key theories and models, such as theSelf-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan, 1985) and theSocio-Educational Model (Gardner, 1985), will be examined to understand the interplay between intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors in language learning.Research Questions:What are the intrinsic motivational factors that influence elementary school students' English language learning? What are the extrinsic motivational factors that influence elementary school students' English language learning? How do these motivational factors interact and influence students' overall engagement and performance in English language learning?Methodology:This study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. The quantitative component will involve administering a validated questionnaire to a representative sample of elementary school students, assessing their motivational orientations, attitudes, and perceptions towards English language learning. The qualitative component will consist of focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews with students, teachers, and parents, allowing for a deeper exploration of the motivational factors and their impact on the learning experience.Data Analysis:Quantitative data will be analyzed using appropriate statistical methods, such as descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression models. Qualitative data will be codedand analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to identify emerging themes and patterns related to motivational factors.Ethical Considerations:Ethical considerations will be given utmost priority throughout the research process. Informed consent will be obtained from participants, and confidentiality and anonymity will be ensured. The research will be conducted in compliance with the ethical guidelines and protocols established by the relevant institutional review boards.Expected Outcomes:The findings of this study are expected to contribute to a better understanding of the motivational factors that influence elementary school students' English language learning. By identifying the intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors, educators and policymakers can develop targeted interventions and strategies to enhance students' motivation and create a supportive learning environment. Additionally, the study may provide insights into the interplay between different motivational factors and their impact on overall engagement and performance in language learning.篇3Title: A Study of Learning Motivation and Driving Forces in English Learning for Elementary School StudentsIntroductionAs an elementary school student, learning English can be both exciting and challenging. It's a new language with different sounds, words, and grammar rules that we have to learn from scratch. Some students seem to pick it up easily and have a strong drive to learn, while others struggle to stay motivated. I've noticed this difference in my own classroom, and it has made me curious about what factors influence a student's motivation and driving forces when it comes to learning English. The ability to communicate in English opens up a world of opportunities, from understanding movies and songs to being able to travel and connect with people from different cultures. However, the process of learning a new language can be daunting, especially for young learners. Understanding what motivates students and what drives them to persist in their English studies could help teachers and parents provide better support and create more effective learning environments. In this research proposal, I aim to explore the various motivational factors that influence elementary school students' engagement and success in learning English. By examining thesefactors, we may gain valuable insights into how to cultivate and sustain a strong learning drive among young English learners.Literature ReviewPrevious research has identified several key factors that can influence language learning motivation, including:Intrinsic motivation: This refers to the internal drive and personal enjoyment derived from learning the language itself (Dörnyei, 2001). Students who are intrinsically motivated tend to find the learning process rewarding and engaging.Extrinsic motivation: This involves external factors such as rewards, praise, grades, or parental expectations that motivate students to learn English (Ryan & Deci, 2000). While extrinsic motivators can be effective, they may not foster long-term engagement.Self-efficacy: Students' beliefs in their ability to learn and succeed in English can significantly impact their motivation and persistence (Bandura, 1997). Those with higher self-efficacy are more likely to approach challenges with confidence and perseverance.Attitude towards the target language and culture: Positive attitudes towards the English language and the culturesassociated with it can enhance motivation and interest in learning (Masgoret & Gardner, 2003).Learning environment: The classroom atmosphere, teaching methods, and support from teachers and peers can either facilitate or hinder motivation (Dörnyei & Csizér, 1998).While these factors have been explored in various contexts, there is a need for more research specifically focusing on the motivational dynamics of elementary school students learning English, as their developmental stage and learning experiences may differ from older learners.Research QuestionsTo address the gap in the literature, this study will investigate the following research questions:What are the primary motivational factors that influence elementary school students' engagement and persistence in learning English? How do intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors interact and influence students' overall motivation? What role do self-efficacy beliefs play in shaping students' motivation and driving forces in English learning? How do attitudes towards the English language and associated cultures impact students' motivation and learning outcomes? In what ways does the learning environment (classroom atmosphere, teaching methods, peer support) affect students' motivation and driving forces?MethodologyThis study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection methods to gain a comprehensive understanding of the research questions.Quantitative Data Collection:A survey questionnaire will be developed to assess students' motivation levels, self-efficacy beliefs, attitudes towards English and associated cultures, and perceptions of their learning environment. The questionnaire will include Likert-scale items and open-ended questions. The survey will be administered to a sample of elementary school students (grades 3-5) enrolled in English language classes in multiple schools.Qualitative Data Collection:Focus group discussions will be conducted with smaller groups of students to gain deeper insights into their motivational experiences, challenges, and driving forces.Classroom observations will be carried out to examine the learning environment, teaching practices, and student interactions that may influence motivation.Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with a subset of students, teachers, and parents to gather additional perspectives on motivational factors and strategies for enhancing learning motivation.Data AnalysisQuantitative data from the survey will be analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, such as correlations and regression analyses, to identify relationships between motivational factors and learning outcomes.Qualitative data from focus groups, observations, and interviews will be analyzed using thematic coding and content analysis to identify recurring themes, patterns, and insights related to the research questions. The quantitative and qualitative findings will be integrated to provide a comprehensive understanding of the motivationalfactors and driving forces influencing elementary school students' English learning.Ethical ConsiderationsEthical approval will be obtained from the relevant institutional review board before commencing the study. Informed consent will be obtained from parents/guardians and assent from student participants. Confidentiality and anonymity of participants will be maintained throughout the research process.Significance and ImplicationsThis study has the potential to contribute to the understanding of motivational factors in English language learning for elementary school students. The findings may inform teaching practices, curriculum design, and support strategies aimed at fostering and sustaining motivation among young English learners.By identifying the key motivational drivers and challenges faced by students, educators and policymakers can develop more effective interventions and create learning environments that nurture students' intrinsic motivation, self-efficacy, and positive attitudes towards English language learning.Ultimately, this research can help ensure that elementary school students develop a strong foundation and lasting motivation for acquiring English language proficiency, which can open doors to future academic, professional, and personal opportunities in an increasingly globalized world.ConclusionLearning a new language like English can be a daunting task for elementary school students, and maintaining motivation is crucial for their success. This research proposal aims to explore the various motivational factors and driving forces that influence students' engagement and persistence in English learning.By employing a mixed-methods approach and gathering data from multiple sources, this study will provide valuable insights into the interplay of intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors, the role of self-efficacy beliefs, the impact of attitudes towards English and associated cultures, and the influence of the learning environment. The findings from this research have the potential to inform teaching practices, curriculum design, and support strategies aimed at fostering and sustaining motivation among young English learners. Ultimately, this study can contribute to creating more effective and engaging learning experiences that nurturestudents' love for language learning and set them on a path towards proficiency and future opportunities.。

I. Reading Comprehension(本题共 20 小题,每题 2 分共 40 分)Directions: There are 4 reading passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four suggested answers marked A.B.C and D. Choose the best answer to each question.Passage OneIf one is asked about the best way to improve one's reading ability, it is of course, to read. As a student, you must make a real effort to improve both your reading speed and your comprehension. Too many students read passively and without judgment; they simply start at the first word and read through to the end. You should read a passage actively, selectively and purposefully. You must believe that you indeed have the ability to read faster and understand more, and that you will.Reading, like everything else in life, is best done when you are relaxed. The key to improve it is concentration. You must be willing to break some old habits and form new ones. Extra body movement, such as turning the head from side to side, pointing at the line with a finger or a pencil, or moving the lips, should be stopped immediately. Reading is mostly a mental process and body movement helps neither speed nor comprehension. Then you shouldsee words as part of a whole sentence or paragraph, not just in isolation. This is why a slow, word-by-word student often understands far less, missing much of the joy and excitement of reading. The student must learn to improve reading skills on their own, and not just when a teacher is looking over his shoulder. Reading improvement takes discipline and effort. Don't give up.1.If you want to improve your reading ability, you should .A. read each word in the passage carefullyB. read with choice, purpose and confidenceC. start at the first wordD. read a passage completely from the beginning to the end2.The best title of the passage might be “”.A. How to Improve Your Reading AbilityB. How to Cultivate Good Habits in ReadingC. Developing Reading MethodsD. Getting Rid of Your Bad Habits While Reading3.Best reading efficiency can be achieved if one .A. reads paragraph by paragraphB. reads in great detailC. reads with focusD. reads as fast as possible4.According to the author, all the following are the bad habits in reading EXCEPT.A. moving the lipsB. pointing at words with somethingC. holding a book in handsD. turning the head from side to side5.The phrase "looking over his shoulder" in Paragraph 3 may best be replaced by “”.A. watching himB. examining his shoulderC. encouraging himD. looking at someone behind himPassage TwoOur memories can be both sweet and bitter. Many people spend all their lives to forget those bitter ones. Violence and traffic accidents, esp. can leave people with terrible physicaland emotional scars. Often they relive these experiences in nightmares. Now American researchers are developing a pill which will help people forget bad memories. The pill is designed to be taken immediately after a frightening experience. They hope it might reduce, or possibly erase, the effect of painful memories. In November, experts tested a drug on people in the US and France. The drug stops the body from releasing chemicals that fix memories in the brain. So far the research has suggested that only the emotional effects of memories may be reduced, not that the memories are erased. The research has caused a great deal of argument. Some think it is a bad idea, while others support it.Supporters say it could lead to pills that prevent or treat soldiers' troubling memories after war. They say that there are many people who suffer from terrible memories."Some memories can ruin people's lives. They come back to you when you don't want to have them in a daydream or nightmare. They usually come with very painful emotions." said Roger Pit man, a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. "This could relieve a lot of that suffering."But those who are against the research say that changing memories is very dangerous because memories give us our identity(特质). They also help us all avoid the mistakes of the past."All of us can think of bad events in our lives that were horrible at the time but make us who we are. I'm not sure we want to wipe those memories out." said Rebecca Dresser, a medical ethicist.6.The passage is mainly about .A. a new medical inventionB. an argument about the research on the pillC. a way of erasing painful memoriesD. a new research on the pill7.American researchers are developing a pill to .A. comfort those people who are in a frightening experienceB. help those people to forget their frightening experienceC. persuade those people to forget their frightening experienceD. test those people's degree of fright in a frightening experience8.The drug tested on people can .A. prevent the body from producing certain chemicalsB. relieve people of the mental tensionC. cause the brain to fix memoriesD. wipe out the memories of bad experiences9.We can infer from the passage that .A. people supporting the research believe that the pill will stop people's bad experiencesB. people supporting the research believe the pill will help people to reduce the harm caused by bad experiencesC. people against the research believe that the effect of the pills may not bed desirableD. people against the research believe that the pill will cause them to make mistakes10. Which of the following does Rebecca Dresser agree with?A. Some memories can ruin people's lives.B. People want to get rid of bad memories.C. The pill will reduce people's suffering from bad memories.D. Experiencing bad events makes us different from others.Passage ThreeLarge modern cities are too big to control. They impose their own living conditions on the people who live in them. Persons living in cities are obliged by their environment to take a wholly unnatural way of life. They lose touch with the land and the rhythm of the nature. It is possible to live such an air-conditioned existence that you are barely conscious of the seasons. A few flowers in a public park (if you have time to visit it) may remind you that it is spring or summer. A few leaves clinging to the pavement may remind you that it is autumn. Beyond that, what is going on in nature seems totally irrelevant. All the simple, good things of life like sunshine and fresh air are difficult to obtain. and therefore are highly valued. Traffic fumes pollute the atmosphere. Tall building hide the sun completely. Even the distinction between day and night is lost.rge modem cities impose their living condition on people in thatA. sunshine and fresh air are availableB. living conditions are improvedC. beautiful landscape can be foundD. air-conditioned houses are provided12.Which is NOT one of the reasons why city life is not more desirable?A. Tall buildings hide the sun completely.B. Modern cities are too big to control.C. Modern cities offer better schools and more chances of employment.D. People are barely conscious of the seasons.13.According to the passage, the following can be the reasons for the loss of distinction between day and night except thatA. persons living in cities live in air-conditioned housesB. people lose touch with the natureC. people are traveling through different time zonesD. the sun was hidden from view by tall buildings14.If you want to know what season it is,A. it is advisable for you to live in an air-conditioned houseB. you'd better visit a public parkC. you should go out to see the sunshine and breathe the fresh airD. you should walk on the pavement15.Which statement is NOT true according to the passage?A. Large modern cities are too big to controlB. Sunshine and fresh air are rare in large modern cities.C. There are many disadvantages of living in large modern cities.D. All the simple, good things of life are imposed on the people who live in large cities.Passage FourRobots in use now are taking over the blue-collar jobs of less educated Americans, but artificial intelligence (AI) is probably ready to shake up college-educated employees in higher-paying jobs. This will leave no worker unaffected by the influence of technology on the American workforce.AI is generally regarded as programming computers to do things that normally require human intelligence-tasks such as planning, learning, reasoning and problem-solving. Muro, asenior fellow at the Brookings Institute, and his colleagues analyzed which jobs would be the most highly affected by artificial intelligence. What they learned is that almost every profession will feel Al's effects. But it’s hard to predict whether AI will take the place of more highly skilled workers in the same way robots have done to lower-skilled workers. AI might create entirely new jobs for humans. "We can't really say whether AI will lead to the support of work or its opposite. Both things could happen." says Muro.Jobs performed by people with a four-year college degree could be the hardest hit. These include market research analysts, sales managers, programmers, management analysts and engineers. Positions that are heavily involved in pattern-oriented or “predictive work” are more likely to be affected, according to the analysis.Of course, this is not the first time American workers have been influenced or potentially influenced by technology. The challenge, as Muro sees, it is to determine how humans can add value. He believes that human beings are durable in the face of new technologies. The question is how to help people accept training again, seek new work, and how they can adjust to it, or if their careers break down from this, how to provide a better social safety net.16.Who can AI affect most in the American workforce?A. Senior workers.B. Blue-collar workers.C. More-educated employees.D. Inexperienced employees.17.What did Muro and his colleagues find out?A. AI is considered as programming computers to complete tasks.B. AI can deal with tasks such as planning and reasoning.C. AI is better at problem-solving than humans.D. AI can affect almost every field.18.What can we infer from what Muto says?A. AI will replace some skilled workers.B. AI will play as a double-edged sword.C. AI will develop in the same way as robots.D. AI will create entirely new jobs for humans.19.Which of the following positions are NOT likely to be replaced by AI?A. Management analysts.B. Sales managers.C. Programmers.D. Fashion designers.20.What should human beings do in face of the challenges posed by AI?A. Use their potential to adjust to it.B. Work harder than before.C. Wait for another opportunity.D. Learn to be durable.II. Vocabulary and Structure ( 本题共 15 小题,每题 1 分,共 15 分 )Directions: For each of the following sentences there are four choices marked A.B.C and D. The key factors influencing public speech

The key factors influencing public speech

The key factors influencing public speech “The King's Speech” is a movie about how King George VI, overcame his stuttering problem. The King relies on the help of a little-known Australian speech therapist named Lionel Logue to find his voice and courageously lead his people into the most devastating war humanity has ever faced. In my own perspective, there is three factors influencing public speech. First of all, it’s confidence. Polls show that it is generally believed that unnerve moment in the whole life is to deliver a speech in public. On this point, we don't feel surprised, because for most of us, such experience is not strange. But speech itself is not a terrible thing, but the combination of one's knowledge and insight. If you have enough confidence, public speech is just as like talking to others in your leisure time.Next is to impress your audience. Practice tells us that the successful speech should guide or help the audience to think, not the pursuit of a kind of applause. The most expressive and impressive words are also lively ones, because it can catch the audiences’ attention and excitement with the freshness.Last but not the least, more exercises are the crucial factor in public speech. In the movie, before King George VI addressed the speech, he has taken exercises with his doctor and they found the weakness then changed the words. It means that although you cannot read your draft, you recite it and use your own language during your speech. This needs a plenty of preparation and exercises. In general, it is not a difficulty in addressing public speech. As long as you are of enough confidence, impressing your audience deeply and taking more exercises, the public speech won’t be a barrier in your life any longer.。

Links among factors influencing speaking
来源:苏州环球雅思学校作者:张绢花
A majority of students are confused about speaking to different extent. Specifically, some with a tense nerve dare not open their mouth to speak with a worry that they may lose face in front of his teacher and classmates; some could not combine the words in his mind into sentences due to his poor grammar, which influences his fluency greatly; some could not express themselves with a limited vocabulary though they are extremely talkative in Chinese; however, in the meantime, it is another group of students who are facing an embarrassing problem that he cannot make a logical speech within a short time fluently though he has mastered enough vocabulary and grammars. To help them tackle those problems, here, I would like to put forward corresponding solutions and expect that all of students can endeavor to speak more fluent English with more practice, since it is known that practice makes perfect, on condition that an appropriate method is ensured.
1)Timidness
The teacher plays the most important role in dispelling the students’timidness about speaking in front of a stranger, especially in an exam. In classes, the teacher should never criticize them immediately when the students make some mistakes. Instead some praise about his speaking should be
raised to encourage them. On the other hand, teachers should keep a watchful eye on this type of students and never neglect their existence, with only focus on those active students in class.
More care and encouragement may help them remove timidness.
2)Grammar
To improve grammars, the only method is to read more and master the basic sentence structures. Students can make a reading plan and the teacher can show examples to help students to gain the skill of making up sentences. An interesting method is put forward here, that a student can write down several words on a card and try to make up sentences, or even to tell a story.
3)Vocabulary, as another important part of speaking, is
accumulated through insistent study. To extend the vocabulary in
a short time, probably the only method is to recite words
repetitively, in most people’ mind. However, speaking for myself, first of all, collect words in demand and sort them into different groups(definitely, in Global Education, this is done by the teacher); then, to read them once and once again, for about at least 10 times, which is might boring, or to try to make up sentences or stories to remember those words.
4)Logic
Logic is something forgotten by most of students when they are practicing speaking. However, logic is an important factor deciding whether the students can gain a good score in the exam.
To gain good logic, a student can choose a topic to think out any relevant information about that topic; then, arrange them into a group of lines with the order of general, detailed and importance;
when everything is done, try to describe the topic in Chinese logically; finally try to describe it once again in English. More practice, more improvement.
To sum up, in fact, innate quality, grammar, vocabulary, logic as well as pronunciation which can be improved by imitation in a long term determine the students’ success in speaking.。
