模块综合测评(时间:100分钟;满分:120分)Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AWow,ladies! That is all I can say, I write this article withmixed emotions. Having Aiko the female robot aroundthe house to help out could be either a blessing or a nightmare. If you are a working mother like me, then the idea of having ahelping hand around would be a good thing. We workingmothers dream about going home to find dinner on the table, aclean house and everything ready for the next day, that wouldbe the perfect world.Yet as always we women worry about being replaced,me included. Aiko has been created with special sensors (感应器) underneath her immediate“skin”cover. I believe her creator, Le Trung, has other motives(动机). Of course, he says it's not true. She doesn't complain, argue or talk back. She can carry on a conversation and help you with your math homework. She can tell you the weather outside and can speak in English and Japanese. She doesn't require any sleep nor does she complain about a headache or being tired. She can serve tea and give back massages. I'm sure some men out there would view her as the perfect woman or even“superwoman”. So with good reason I say having Aiko around could prove to be bad. As a woman and a wife,I worry about being replaced or even being compared to Aiko. How can you compete with someone or something so perfect like that?Scientists have been trying to invent robots for a long time. There are many movies and books out there about robots. It looks like those crazy scientists are closer than we thought. Ladies, I think we are fighting a losing battle. So instead of trying to fight it,I guess we have no choice but to join them. Now where is my male robot? Hmm...I want him to look exactly like my Ken Barbie doll. Okay?1.Le Trung created Aiko mainly to ________.A.keep people companyB.teach people foreign languagesC.help children with their homeworkD.help working mothers do housework2.What can we learn about Aiko from the second paragraph?A.She is poorly designed.B.She is perfectly made.C.She works better than expectations.D.She is especially made for housewives.3.Why does the author think having Aiko around could prove to be bad?A.The robot could replace her.B.The robot can do more than she does.C.The robot makes a mess in the house.D.The robot can speak human language.4. What could be the author's purpose in writing the text?A.To introduce a robot.B.To argue against robot-making.C.To show her fights with robots.D.To describe the daily life of a working mother.BIf you are hungry, what will you do? Grab a piece of your favorite meal and stay quiet after that? Just like stomach, even your mind will be hungry. But it never lets you know, because you keep it busy thinking about your dream lover, favorite star and many such absurd things. So it silently begins to hide your needs and never lets itself grow. When mind loses its freedom to grow, creativity gets its full stop. This might be the reason why we all sometimes think “What happens next?”,“Why can't I think?”,“Why am I always given the difficult problems?” Well, this is the after-effect of using our brain for thinking of not-so-worthy things.Hunger of the mind can be actually satisfied through extensive reading. But why is it reading but not watching TV? Because reading has been the most educational tool used by us right from the childhood. Just like that to develop other aspects of our life, we have to turn to reading for help. You have a number of books in the world which will answer all your “how-to” questions. Once you read a book, you just don't runyour eyes through the lines, but your mind decodes (译解) it and explains it to you. The interesting part of the book is stored in your mind as a seed. Now this seed is unknowingly used by you in your future to develop new ideas. The same seed, if used many times, can help you link and relate a lot of things, which you would never think of in your wildest dreams! This is nothing but creativity. The more books you read, the wider your mind will become. Also this improves your oratorical (speech-making) skills to a large extent and also makes a significant contribution to your vocabulary. When you start speaking English or any other language fluently with your friends or other people, you never seem to run out of the right words at the right time.Actually, I had a problem in speaking English fluently, but as I read, I could improve significantly. So guys, do join me and give food for your thoughts by reading, reading and more reading. Now what are you waiting for? Go, grab a book and let me know!5.What's the best title of the passage?A.Hunger of the mindB.Stomach and MindC.Feed your Mind by readingD.Reading or Watching TV6.You don't know your mind is in hunger because ________.A.you are not hungryB.you keep it thinking of silly thingsC.your creativity gets a full stopD.you always meet with difficult problems7.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as the advantage of reading?A.Reading can make your dream come true.B.Reading can contribute to your vocabulary.C.Reading can improve your spoken ability.D.Reading can make people creative.8.The purpose of the author in writing this passage is to ________.A.comment and blameB.introduce and describeC.explain and persuadeD.advise and informCHere's a new warning from health experts:sitting is deadly. Scientists are increasingly warning that sitting for long periods, even if you exercise regularly, could be bad for your health. And it doesn't matter where the sitting takes place—in the office, at school, in the car or before a computer or TV. Just the overall number of hours it takes counts. Several studies suggest people who spend most of their days sitting are more likely to be fat, have a heart attack or even die. While health officials have issued (发布) guidelines advising on the least amounts of physical activity, they haven't suggested people try to limit how much time they spend in a seated position.“After four hours of sitting, the body starts to send harmful signals,”said Ekblom-Bak of the Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences. She explained that genes controlling the amount of glucose (葡萄糖) and fat in the body start to shut down.Even for people who exercise, spending long periods of time sitting at a desk is still harmful. Tim Armstrong, a physical activity expert at the World Health Organization, said people who exercise every day but still spend a lot of time sitting might get more benefits if that exercise were spread across the day, rather than in a single hour.Still in a study that tracked more than 17,000 Canadians for about a dozen years, researchers found people who sat more had a higher death risk, whether they exercised or not.Experts said more research is needed to figure out just how much sitting is dangerous, and what might be possible to offset those effects.“People should keep exercising because that has a lot of benefits,”EkblomBak said. “And when they're in the office, they should try to interrupt sitting as often as possible. ”9.The underlined word “offset” in Paragraph 6 most probably means “________”.A.turn to B.work outC.get rid of D.make use of10.Sitting too much is dangerous because it can ______.A.make a person unable to exercise enough in a dayB.destroy the balance of glucose and fat the bodyC.increase glucose and fat in the bodyD.make a person become lazy11. In the opinion of Ekblom-Bak, when at work, you'd better have a rest by ________.A.sending your friends e-mailsB.taking a walk around your officeC.chatting online or playing computer gamesD.listening to music while sitting12.Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?A.Side Effects of Sitting Too MuchB.Don't Sit Too Much While WorkingC.More and More People Sit Too MuchD.Sitting Too Much Could Be DangerousDYou may ride on your bicycle in a rush to get to school every morning. You may fight to get a bit of space on a bus or in the subway. You may also watch taxis crawl their way through traffic jams.No matter where you are, all big cities around the world have traffic jams these days. But although they all have their problems, many cities also have a type of transport that has become a cultural icon (文化标识).In London to avoid the traffic above ground, people use the “underground”,also called the “tube”. The city has the oldest and most complicated underground railway system in the world and is the pride of many Londoners. With 12 lines and 275 stations across the city, the tube, is normally the quickest and easiest way of getting around London. In London, you are never far from a tube station.New York is famous for its yellow cabs. They serve as a quick and easy way of getting across Manhattan, where the subway doesn't take you everywhere. Stopping acab is easy; just stick out your arm like you do in any city. But,with over 12,000 yellow cabs in the Big Apple, they also cause traffic jams.Since 1873 when the first cable car started public service, the slow and noisy vehicle has been a symbol of San Francisco. Although once damaged by a serious earthquake and challenged (挑战) by cars, it is never caught in traffic jams and provides better views than the subway. But there are no such symbols in Los Angeles. If you visit you'd better rent a car. The city's public transportation is terrible. It can take hours to get across town by bus. The subway covers just a small part of the city center. The light rail line only runs between the Long Beach hotel area and the city center. That's why Angelenos love their private cars more than any other people in the world.13.If you have a chance to London and want to avoid the traffic jams, you'd better ________.A.ride vehicle B.take a taxiC.use underground D.rent a car14.People in Los Angeles like their private cars because of the following EXCEPT that ________.A.the public transportation is terribleB.it is not expensive to take a private carC.the underground railway covers a small part of the city centerD.people have to spend hours getting across the Los Angeles by bus15.The passage mainly tells us ________.A.how big cities in the foreign countries keep on movingB.how people in the city avoid the traffic jamsC.why London has the oldest and complicated subwayD.why people call New York the Big AppleⅡ.阅读填句(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)When was the last time you had great fun with your family? __16__ So stand up and plan to have fun with your family.Going to the zoo is definitely a number-one pick for family activities. That is all I can say, I write this article withmixed emotions. Having Aiko the female robot aroundthe house to help out could be either a blessing or anightmare. If you are a working mother like me, then the ideaof having a helping hand around would be a good thing. Weworking mothers dream about going home to find dinner onthe table, a clean house and everything ready for the nextday, that would be the perfect world.Yet as always we women worry about being replaced,me included. Okay?36.Le Trung created Aiko mainly to ________.A.keep people companyB.teach people foreign languagesC.help children with their homeworkD.help working mothers do housework37.What can we learn about Aiko from the second paragraph?A.She is poorly designed.B.She is perfectly made.C.She works better than expectations.D.She is especially made for housewives.38.Why does the author think having Aiko around could prove to be bad?A.The robot could replace her.B.The robot can do more than she does.C.The robot makes a mess in the house.D.The robot can speak human language.39. Once you read a book, you just don't run your eyes through the lines, but your mind decodes (译解) it and explains it to you.The interesting part of the book is stored in your mind as a seed. Go, grab a book and let me know!40.What's the best title of the passage?A.Hunger of the mindB.Stomach and MindC.Feed your Mind by readingD.Reading or Watching TV41.You don't know your mind is in hunger because ________.A.you are not hungryB.you keep it thinking of silly thingsC.your creativity gets a full stopD.you always meet with difficult problems42.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as the advantage of reading?A.Reading can make your dream come true.B.Reading can contribute to your vocabulary.C.Reading can improve your spoken ability.D.Reading can make people creative.43.The purpose of the author in writing this passage is to ________.A.comment and blame B.introduce and describeC.explain and persuade D.advise and informCHere's a new warning from health experts:sitting is deadly. ”44.The underlined word “offset” in Paragraph 6 most probably means “________”.A.turn to B.work outC.get rid of D.make use of45.Sitting too much is dangerous because it can ______.A.make a person unable to exercise enough in a dayB.destroy the balance of glucose and fat the bodyC.increase glucose and fat in the bodyD.make a person become lazy46. In the opinion of Ekblom-Bak, when at work, you'd better have a rest by ________.A.sending your friends e-mailsB.taking a walk around your officeC.chatting online or playing computer gamesD.listening to music while sitting47.Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?A.Side Effects of Sitting Too MuchB.Don't Sit Too Much While WorkingC.More and More People Sit Too MuchD.Sitting Too Much Could Be DangerousDYou may ride on your bicycle in a rush to get to school every morning. The city has the olde st and most complicated underground railway system in the world and is the pride of many Londoners. Stopping a cab is easy; just stick out your arm like you do in any city. But,with over 12,000 yellow cabs in the Big Apple, they also cause traffic jams.Since 1873 when the first cable car started public service, the slow and noisy vehicle has been a symbol of San Francisco. Although once damaged by a seriousearthquake and challenged (挑战) by cars, it is never caught in traffic jams and provides better views than the subway. But there are no such symbols in Los Angeles. If you visit you'd better rent a car. The city's public transportation is terrible. It can take hours to get across town by bus. The subway covers just a small part of the city center. The light rail line only runs between the Long Beach hotel area and the city center. That's why Angelenos love their private cars more than any other people in the world.48.If you have a chance to London and want to avoid the traffic jams, you'd better ________.A.ride vehicle B.take a taxiC.use underground D.rent a car49.People in Los Angeles like their private cars because of the following EXCEPT that ________.A.the public transportation is terribleB.it is not expensive to take a private carC.the underground railway covers a small part of the city centerD.people have to spend hours getting across the Los Angeles by bus50.The passage mainly tells us ________.A.how big cities in the foreign countries keep on movingB.how people in the city avoid the traffic jamsC.why London has the oldest and complicated subwayD.why people call New York the Big AppleⅣ.任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)(2016·扬州中学高二检测)Because six out of every 10 accidental deaths happen to Chinese children who are playing, Shanghai Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical (SJJP), a US-based pharmaceutical giant, is working on a Safe Kids Program to prevent injuries and deaths.Since the Safe Kids Worldwide was set up in 1987 by Johnson & Johnson in the US, it has contributed to a nearly 40 percent decline in the child death rate from accidental injuries there.Learning from the successful experience, SJJP began the Safe Kids Program in China in 1999.A recent survey conducted by SJJP and Safe Kids Worldwide China indicatesthat more than half of the responding parents didn't know how to help their children keep safe and that half of the parents didn't know about their children's motor skill development at different ages. The survey covered 3,359 Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou's parents with children between infancy (幼年) and 14.Additionally, more than 40 percent of the parents didn't know how to help their children to prepare well for sports activities. For instance, they don't know how to have their children warm up or realize the importance of a playground-check before sports activities. To help correct the problems, SJJP and Safe Kids Worldwide China have been translating and editing safety education materials, sending them to parents free of charge, and delivering free lectures in kindergartens, schools and residential communities for the last 10 years.Currently, a special team has been set up and traveling around 12 key cities of China to popularize child sports safety knowledge and offer free training for young parents.Though SJJP refuses to say how much it has spent on the program, it says the number in terms of money, staff and technology, is large.SJJP was founded by Johnson & Johnson in 1995 and specializes in manufacturing and development of non-prescription medicines (非处方药) and health care foods and products. So far,its investment has exceeded $41 million.Title: Safe Kids Program阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

Our class has held a discussion on whether the massive running should take the place of the traditional morning exercises. Opinions are divided as follows:Some students say that they like the massive running. Morning exercises, which they have been used to doing for many years, are boring. It seems as if they have to do morning exercises only in the presence of their teachers. It’s running that provides a real chance for the arms, legs and the whole body to exercise to the full extent. Through running, they can recover from tiredness, and get refreshed, which is a great help to their studies in the following classes of the day. Also, the teacher s’ participation will promote the relationship between teachers and students. Therefore, they would like the morning exercises to be replaced. However, others prefer the traditional morning exercises. They argue that the twenty-minute massive running will tire them out. You can imagine what effect the overtime running has on the studies in the following classes. Besides, students read books before running to value every bit of time ,but it is not efficient for some students; and sometimes some students trip over because they are too close to each other when running . What’s more, after the bell announcing the end of the 2nd period rings, all the students have to rush downstairs. Later, they’ll gather on the main roads, so the campus is obviously overcrowded. As far as I’m concerned, running is my favorite in winter in particular. It not only warms us but also builds up our strength. Morning exercises, however, seem appropriate for girl students.。

Old houses and empty places in cities and towns around the United States are finding new life as urban farms.
Eco City Farm in Edmonston, Maryland, is located near shopping centers, car repair shops and homes. The neighborhood is a working-class community.People do not have very much money, and they have limited access to fresh food in the markets.
Over the past two years, the farm has attracted volunteers from the community like Marcy Clark. She teaches her four children at home.On a recent day she brought them to Eco City Farm for a lesson. Her children harvested rows of spinach, mustard greens, lettuce, Swiss chard and carrots. What did Hannah, Caleb, John and Alston think of the experience?
Hannah: “You know, it's good for the earth and it's good for us.”
Caleb: “It may not be like fun, but it's fun, because you're learning and not like writing something out on a piece of paper.”
John:“ Basically instead of feeling down when I have to eat vegetables, I feel happy.”
Alston: “I like coming out here. You know, you connect with the earth, where your food comes from. You appreciate the food a little bit more.”
Margaret started Eco City Farm. She wanted to build a place where
people can learn to live healthier lives. She said,“Our view is that what happens in a community influences the culture of that community. So our idea is growing food in a community and showing that you can have farms even in urban areas and bringing people together. What we do here is a demonstration to show people everything about how to have a sustainable community.” That means not only farming food and raising chickens and bees, but improving the soil with compost made from food waste.
