But Australian researchers have found a way to make something like this possible!A team at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia, found a way to put special nanostructures (纳米结构) into clothing, which can then clean the clothes. When sunlight hits the nanostructures, they break down the dirt and stains (污渍) that don’t belong on your clothes. The nanostructures don’t break down the actual clothing because cotton and the other clothing materials are too strong to be broken down. According to CNN, the researchers cover the clothingin a solution made of silver and copper (铜) nanostructures. All it takes is 40 minutes of sunlight and your clothes will look as good as new.So if you spill on yourself during lunch, you can step outside for a walk, and it will be cleanby the time you go inside. It not only makes your life easier, but it can also be good for the environment.According to the US Department of Energy, the average load of laundry uses about 25 gallons (about 94 liters) of water. Water is a very important resource, so using less of it to wash clothesis better for the environment. But one of the scientists at RMIT University knows more needs to be done.“There’s more work to do before we can start throwing out our washing machines,” said Dr Rajesh Ramanathan, “but this is a strong foundation .”So what’s the next step? Ramanathan wants to either start selling the solution by itself or convincing clothing makers to treat the clothing with the solution while clothes are being made.1.What do Paragraphs 4-5 talk about?A.What advantages the self-cleaning clothes have.B.How the self-cleaning clothes work.C.How the self-cleaning clothes are made.D.What helps the self-cleaning clothes work.2.What does the underlined word “solution”in the last paragraph mean?A.Machines B.Clothes. Here are three proposals that were discussed during the sessions that might interest you.Smartphone ban According to a survey made last year, 68.1 percent of Chinese primary and junior high school students have their own smartphones.Lei Yanqin, a deputy, suggested that smartphones should be banned at schools nationwide. However, only three in ten students are satisfied with their uniforms. Some deputies suggested that the uniforms in schools could be redesigned. Brown clouds, polluted water, endangered wild animals.., these problems seem so huge.So my family does what we can. We take cloth bags to stores instead of using plastic bags. We walk where we don't have to drive...But does it do any good? When I am the only one in line at the market with cloth bags, am I doing any good? Does my walking to stores make any real difference to the world?I recently learned something about flamingos (火烈鸟) which like to get together in groups of a thousand or more. Every year, when the time comes for migration (迁徙), a few of them first takeoff from the lake. But none of the others seem to notice, so the small group returns. However, the next day they try again. This time few more fly along with them, but most of them still pay no attention, so they return again. They try for several times. Every time a few more birdsjoin in but, since the thousands of others still take no notice, the great migration plan is once more stopped. Then one day something changes. The same small group of birds once again starts flying and a small number more join in just as before, then more. Finally, they all take flight and the migration really begins. What a spectacular sight it must be—thousands of flamingos taking off into the sky at once!A few can make a difference. Even if you're the one to take the first step, and continue trying, others will someday take notice and together we will solve even our greatest problems.1.Where would you most probably read this passage?A.A guidebook. So the 6-year-old asked Alexa to get them. Alexa wasn’t her mom or babysitter. It was a voice-activated home assistant powered by AI (人工智能). And it made Brooke’s wishes come true. A few days later, much to her parents’ surprise, a $170 dollhouse and four pounds of cookies showed up. They ate the cookies and gave away the dollhouse to a local hospital. And that’s not the end of the story. When a news reporter told the story of what happened on TV, Alexa devices(设备) in many listeners’ homes woke up and tried to orde r dollhouses!Alexa isn’t the only AI willing to serve you. Apple Homepod has Siri, Google Home has its Assistant, and the upcoming Galaxy Home device will have Bixby. People who have these devices use them mainly for listening to music, checking the weather, and setting timers. According to a report from The Information, nowadays voice shopping is rare. But many scientists predict a boom(增长) in voice shopping in the near future. Is that a good thing?▲.You can shout out an order as soon as you think of it, even if you are cooking, cleaning, or driving. In addition, people with disabilities who are unable to use a keyboard or mouse can shop without any help. But voice shopping has its disadvantages. Unwanted dollhouses aren’t the biggest problem. It’s usually very easy to cancel an order or return products. The thing that worries some people is that these assistants are always listening. They have to be able to respond when you want them. So they listen for “Alexa” or “OK Google” or another order. When they hear it, they start recording the conversation. Some have worried about what happens to these recordings. Should companies be allowed to use them to learn about people’s shopping habits? And what if someone hacks(入侵) the device? The CIA found a way to hack smart TVs to turn them into spies that listen all the time. Others could do the same with any smart device. What do you think?
