英语第三单元作文范文初一下册
英语第三单元作文范文初一下册全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Unit 3 Sample EssayHi friends! Today I want to tell you all about what we learned in Unit 3 of our English class. It was super interesting and I learned a ton of new words and grammar points. Let me walk you through it!The unit was called "A Wider World" and it was all about exploring different cultures around the globe. We started by reading this really cool story called "Tomas's Journey." It was about a young boy named Tomas who lived in a small village in Mexico. One day, Tomas had to take a trip to the big city to run some errands for his family. He was nervous because he had never been to the city before. But his journey turned into an awesome adventure where he got to see and experience so many new things!Along the way, Tomas met people from all different backgrounds. There was a nice old man who sold delicious tamales on the street corner. Tomas learned that tamales are atraditional Mexican dish made of corn dough stuffed with meat and veggies. They looked weird at first, but Tomas tried one and it was delicioso! He also met a family who had just moved to Mexico from Japan. They taught Tomas about customs like removing your shoes indoors and bowing as a greeting. Such fascinating cultural traditions! My favorite part was when Tomas went to the huge mercado, or outdoor market, in the city center. It was bursting with bright colors, exotic smells, and interesting people selling all kinds of cool stuff. Tomas tried on a traditional sombrero hat, learned some new Spanish words from the vendors, and even got to watch an amazing mariachi band perform. By the end of his journey, Tomas realized that experiencing new cultures is so much fun. He couldn't wait to go home and tell his family all about it!That book really opened my eyes to how many diverse cultures exist, even within the same country like Mexico. Our teacher taught us the importance of being culturally aware and respectful of different traditions. She said learning about other cultures helps us become more understanding global citizens. It reminds me of that old saying, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do." Whenever you travel somewhere new, you shoulddo your research ahead of time and follow the local customs out of politeness. That's a great lesson for all of us!After reading Tomas's story, we spent a few weeks building our vocabulary around the theme of cultural diversity. We learned words like "tradition," "indigenous," "values," and "heritage." Did you know that heritage means the traditions and customs that get passed down from previous generations? My heritage comes from my grandparents who moved here from India when they were young. We still celebrate Indian holidays like Diwali and eat classic Indian food like curry and naan bread. Preserving your cultural heritage is really important. Then we moved on to learning some grammar for narrating sequences of events, since the book was all about Tomas's journey. We practiced using transition words like "first," "next," "then," and "finally" to clearly show the order of events. We also worked on using the past tense, like "Tomas went to the city" instead of "Tomas goes to the city." Getting the right verb tenses is super key for good storytelling! Knowing how to properly sequence events will help us write much better narratives going forward. My favorite part of the unit was when we all had to give presentations about a culture different from our own. I chose toresearch Brazilian culture since my best friend Lucas is from Brazil. I found out that Brazil is famous for its vibrant music called samba, as well as its delicious national dish feijoada. Brazilian Portuguese is a little different from the Spanish we're learning, but I included some fun Portuguese words in my presentation like obrigado, which means "thank you."I also discovered that one of Brazil's biggest celebrations is Carnaval! It's this wildly colorful festival every year with fantastic parades, costumes, dancing, and music. The climax is a huge samba parade and party in Rio de Janeiro that people from all over the world attend. How crazy is that? If I ever get to visit Brazil, I'll have to go during Carnaval for sure. Learning about another culture's holidays and traditions was awesome.Giving my presentation reminded me that celebrating our cultural differences is what makes the world such a special, interesting place. If we were all exactly the same, life would be so boring! We should appreciate the diversity of languages, foods, music, holidays, and customs out there. That's what gives every culture its own unique flare.Well, that's the scoop on Unit 3 - I could ramble on forever but I'll wrap it up now. Let me know if you have any other questions! I'm just an elementary kiddo, but I feel like I learnedso much about understanding and respecting cultural diversity. I hope I can keep traveling the world and experiencing different cultures firsthand. Until next time, adios amigos!篇2My Awesome Summer VacationSummer vacation is the best time of the year! No more waking up super early, no more homework, and no more boring classes. Just lots of fun, games, and adventures! This summer was totally awesome. Let me tell you all about it.It started on the last day of school. I was so excited when the final bell rang. School was finally over for a few months! My friends and I jumped up and down, cheering and giving each other high-fives. Freedom at last! The first week, I just relaxed at home and slept in late every day. My mom let me stay up past my bedtime to watch movies and shows. I played a ton of video games too. It was heaven! Then my cousins from another state came to visit for a few weeks. We always have such a blast when they come over. We spent lots of time outside playing games like tag, hide and seek, and pretending to be superheroes saving the world. My babycousin is really cute and funny. He's just learning to talk, so he says the funniest things! One day, we all went to the local water park which has awesome slides, a lazy river, and this humongous bucket that dumps hundreds of gallons of water on you! We went down the craziest slides over and over. I loved the adrenaline rush as I zoomed down at top speed. Wheeeee!Another time, we had a big family cookout and played backyard games like cornhole, ladder ball, and kan jam. The dads had a fierce competition going. They took it so seriously, arguing over the rules and scorekeeping. We kids just laughed at how riled up they got over a silly game. Obviously, us kids crushed the adults and reigned supreme as backyard champions! For the 4th of July, we watched the most spectacular fireworks show. The night sky exploded with brilliant colors and shapes – red chrysanthemums, green palms, golden willows, smiley faces, and more. Some of the shells were so loud they shook theground underneath us. The grand finale was breathtaking, like an artist splashing buckets of paint across a canvas. Dazzling! My favorite part was going to Summer Camp for two weeks. Camp is always a highlight of my summer. I got to try out allkinds of cool activities like archery, rock climbing, kayaking, making lanyards and friendship bracelets, campfire songs and s'mores, and more. I made lots of new friends from different schools and towns. We stayed up way past lights out, whispering and giggling together in our bunks. One night, we pulled an epic prank on the counselors. We snuck out and redecorated the cabins by switching all the nameplates and covering everything in silly string and shaving cream! The counselors found out it was us, but they thought it was so funny that we didn't get in too much trouble. We still laugh about pulling that one over on them.On the last night of camp, we had a massive dance party. Everyone went all out with crazy outfits, glow sticks, and showing off our best moves on the dance floor. I've never danced so hard in my life! We were all drenched in sweat but kept on grooving to the music until we collapsed from exhaustion. What a epic way to end camp!Too soon, it was time to start getting ready to go back to school. Summer feels like it just zooms by in a flash. My mom took me shopping for all my new school supplies and a few fresh outfits. I got this really cool light-up sneakers and a backpack with my favorite video game character on it.As much as I dreaded summer ending and school starting up again, I actually was a little excited too. I've missed my friends and teachers. School isn't all bad, I guess. There's always a lot to look forward to with a new school year - seeing who's in my classes, joining clubs and sports teams, going on fun field trips, and learning new things. This summer was one for the record books though - fun from start to finish with no doldrums in between. I made so many wonderful memories that I'll never forget. I can't wait to see what adventures and excitement next summer will bring. Maybe I'll finally get to go to sleepaway camp or take that cross-country road trip I've been begging my parents for! Only time will tell. But I know one thing for sure, it's going to be AWESOME!篇3My Awesome Summer VacationHi there! My name is Timmy and I'm going to tell you all about my totally awesome summer vacation. It was the best summer ever! I had so much fun and did a bunch of really cool things. The first week of summer, my family went camping up in the mountains. We spent four nights sleeping in our big tent and cooking yummy food over the campfire. My favorite was thes'mores! We hiked up to this beautiful waterfall and I got to splash around in the cold, refreshing water. One night, we made popcorn and looked up at the bright stars. I saw a shooting star and made a wish! Then the next week, we went to visit my grandparents on their farm. I love going there because they have all kinds of animals. I got to feed the chickens and collect the eggs from the chicken coop. The funniest thing was when one of the baby goats started following me around everywhere! Grandpa let me drive the old tractor too, but just around the field. My grandma's chocolate chip cookies are the most delicious things ever. I probably ate like a hundred of them! For the third week, my cousin Billy came to stay with us. We had a mega slumber party and stayed up late watching movies and playing video games. We built an amazing fort out of blankets and sofa cushions in the living room. We had a huge nerf gun battle that lasted for hours! My dad got us these super cool water balloon launchers and we totally soaked each other in the backyard. It was an epic water fight. We also went to thearcade and played ski ball, air hockey, and won a bunch of tickets to get prizes. Finally, the last week before school started back up, my family took a road trip to the beach! We spent four days building awesome sand castles, boogie boarding in the waves, and just relaxing on the beach. We found so many cool seashells and I have a little collection going now. One afternoon we went on a dolphin watching cruise and I got to see dolphins swimming and jumping right next to the boat! We also went mini golfing one night and I got a hole-in-one which was super lucky. On the drive back home, we stopped at an amusement park and went on a ton of fun rides. The best was the giant roller coaster that went upside down! I loved the feeling of the wind blowing my hair as we zoomed along the tracks. We also went through this crazy haunted house which was kind of scary but I made it through. I'm proud of myself for being brave!Well, that's the highlights of my incredible summer break. I got to do so many fun things and make a bunch of amazing memories with my family and friends. I'll never forget this summer, that's for sure. Even though I'm happy to be back at school and seeing my friends again, I'm already counting down the days until next summer!篇4My Awesome Summer VacationSummer vacation is the best time of the year! No more school, no more homework, just lots of fun and freedom. This summer was extra special because my family went on an amazing trip to Hawaii. I'm going to tell you all about it!We flew on a huge airplane to get to Hawaii. I had never been on such a big plane before! The flight took several hours, but it didn't feel that long because I watched movies, played games, and ate yummy snacks. When we finally landed in Honolulu, I could hardly believe my eyes. The island was absolutely beautiful with tall palm trees, bright flowers everywhere, and the bluest ocean I had ever seen. Our hotel was right on the beach and it was incredible. We had our own little hut with a thatched roof and everything. From our porch, we could see the waves crashing on the sandy shore. I couldn't wait to go swimming! After unpacking, my brother and I raced down to the ocean. The water was so warm and clear. We splashed around for hours, swimming and boogie-boarding.Over the next few days, we did so many fun activities. We went on a boat tour and saw enormous humpback whalesbreaching out of the water. We hiked through a lush, green rainforest full of exotic plants and animals. One day, we even climbed up the side of a dormant volcano! The view from the top was breathtaking. We also visited historic sites like Pearl Harbor and learned about its importance in World War II.My favorite activity was surfing lessons. On our fourth day, a tanned, laid-back surf instructor taught us how to catch waves and stand up on the surfboards. It was really hard at first and I fell off over and over again. But after a while, I finally got the hang of it! Soon I was riding the waves just like a pro (well, almost!). Surfing was the coolest thing I've ever tried. We also did a lot of fun cultural activities during our stay. We attended a traditional luau feast where we learned hula dances and watched fire dances at night. The food was delicious - fresh seafood, pineapples, coconuts, and more. We also visited the Dole Pineapple Plantation and saw how the pineapples are grown and harvested. I had no idea they grew that way!On our last day, we spent the whole day relaxing on the beautiful Waikiki beach. We swam, built sandcastles, and played beach games. That night, we watched an incredible Hawaiian sunset over the Pacific Ocean. The sky turned brilliant shades of orange, pink, and purple. It was magical!Saying goodbye to Hawaii was really hard, but I have so many wonderful memories from our amazing family vacation. I will never forget learning to surf, seeing the humpback whales, and experiencing the Aloha spirit. Hawaii is a paradise and I cannot wait to go back someday. This was honestly the best summer ever!篇5My Summer VacationSummer vacation is the best time of the year! No more waking up early for school or doing tons of homework. Just sunshine, fun, and freedom! This summer, my family went on an awesome trip. We drove all the way from our home in Sydney to the Gold Coast in Queensland. It took us over 10 hours in the car, but it was worth it to get to such an amazing place. When we first got to our hotel, I was so excited I thought I might explode! The hotel was right on the beach and had four huge swimming pools, waterslides, a lazy river, and even a wave pool. My little brother and I spent almost the whole first day just playing in the pools. The wave pool was my favorite - we pretended we were surfing on the big waves. The next day, we went to the amazing theme parks the Gold Coast is famous for. First up was Dreamworld, which had tons of crazy roller coasters. My dad had to stay behind with my baby sister, but my mom took me and my brother on all the biggest, scariest rides. The Buzzsaw roller coaster went upside down seven times! I was afraid at first, but it ended up being a blast. After Dreamworld, we spent the next two days at Sea World.I loved getting to see all the sea animals up close, especially the dolphins, sharks, and polar bears. The dolphin show was my favorite part - those dolphins are so smart and were doing all kinds of flips and tricks. I also really liked the roller coasters at Sea World's theme park section too. My brother was too short to go on the big coasters, but we had a great time on the kid rides together. One of the highlights was getting to walk along Surfers Paradise beach. The sand was so soft and white, and the ocean was a beautiful shade of blue-green. My dad let me bury him all the way up to his neck in the sand! I also collected a bunch of cool seashells to bring back home as souvenirs. We saw tons of surfers riding the big waves, and I decided I definitely want to learn how to surf when I'm older. No vacation to the Gold Coast would be complete without a visit to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. This huge park is home to loads of amazing Australian animals like kangaroos, koalas, wombats, dingoes, and more. We got to go on a canoe ride through the park and saw kangaroos hopping right up to the water's edge to take a drink. A kangaroo even let me give it a little pet - their fur is so soft and fluffy! Some of the other fun things we did were going indoor skydiving at iFly, which let me experience what it feels like to freefall through the air, and visiting the Infinity Attraction with its dizzying maze of never-ending rooms and optical illusions. I also loved watching the street performers and buskers along the famous Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise.Of course, I had to get some souvenirs while I was there. I got a stuffed koala bear, a boomerang, and some Queensland Maroons rugby gear to support the local team. My brother got this crazy slingshot thing that can launch objects really far. We originally thought it was a toy, but my dad quickly stopped him from using it after realizing how dangerous it was!All those activities really worked up our appetites. Thankfully, the Gold Coast had tons of amazing places to eat. We had fresh seafood, juicy steaks, gourmet burgers, and even kangaroo meat(which tasted a lot like beef). My favorite was this place that made gigantic pizzas - I got to have a whole pizza all to myself! They had unique Australian toppings like emu, crocodile, and Vegemite. I passed on those wacky toppings and stuck to the classics like pepperoni and sausage. After a week of non-stop fun in the sun, it was time to make the long drive back home to Sydney. I was sad for our vacation to end, but so happy we got to experience the magic of the Gold Coast. My souvenirs and pictures will help me remember all the amazing adventures for a long time. It was truly an unforgettable family trip that I'll cherish forever. I can't wait to start planning our next big summer vacation!篇6Unit 3 Model EssayHi everyone! Book3 unit2作文资料healthy eating
Making your diet work for youDOES your mom always nag (唠叨) you about how you should eat more vegetables and less meat?It might seem annoying (恼人的) that you can‘t eat whatever you want, but you‘d probably agree with her if you knew how many problems e ating unhealthy food can cause.According to China News, in 2010, more than 30 percent of Chinese people older than 18 were overweight. Meanwhile, about 260 million people were suffering from diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes (糖尿病).―These majo r public health risk factors (因素) are closely associated (关联) with food consumption,‖ said Yang Yuexin, a researcher at the National Institute for Nutrition and Food Safety. This is why the Chinese government released a set of guidelines on Feb 10 to promote a healthy diet, reported Xinhua News Agency. The guidelines set goals for how much of each kind of food we should be eating by 2020. For example, you should be eating only 29 kilograms of meat every year, while eggs should account for 16 kilograms and dairy products (奶制品) 36 kilograms.―The guidelines aim to help guarantee (保证) the supply of quality food and improve people‘s nutrition (营养),‖ said Wang Dongyang, de puty director of the institute. So what exactly should your daily diet be like in 2020? Generally, you should have two and a half bowls of rice, an egg, a glass of milk, meat that is roughly the weight of one-and-a-half eggs and a piece of fruit.Longer lifetimesSTAYING young forever might only be possible in fiction. Still, we all want to live long, healthy lives. Have you ever wondered how long the average person lives? According to a report released by the World Health Organization on May 15, the global average life expectancy (预期寿命) reached 70 years in 2011. Japan ranked the top in terms of average life expectancy for both sexes, tying People in theυwith Switzerland and San Marino, a republic surrounded by Italy. three countries lived to an average age of 83.The report says that the average Chinese life expectancy reached 76, ranking the 59th, thanks to economic growth and improved medical services in the country. So are there any secrets to the long life spans (寿命) of the top three countries? Maybe the health care systems, low levels of inequality (不平等) and generally better diets offer some explanations, The Huffington Post commented.Take Japan for example. The world‘s third biggest economy is wealthy enough to provide a good health care system. It offers free screening examinations (筛查) for certain diseases, infectious (传染的) disease control and prenatal (产前的) care. Payments (付款) for personal medical services are offered by a universal health insurance (保险) system, with equal access for all.High life expectancy in Japan is also the result of healthier diets. Fat accounts for less than 20 percent of the calories in the Japanese diet, while it accounts for nearly 40 percent of the The Japanese have also traditionally eaten lots of oily fish,ϖAmerican diet. which reduces their chance of suffering strokes (中风) and developing breast cancer.Besides, Shokuiku – teaching the importance of healthy eating – is stressed in primary and middle school classrooms. It recommends 30 different types of food, with an emphasis on eating fruits and vegetables each day.San Marino‘s long life expectancy is due to its people‘s Mediterranean diet, which is also listed as a UNESCO cultural heritage. This diet is based on freshfruits and vegetables, fish and other white meat, olive oil and whole grains. It is full of rich flavors (味道) but also low in fat. The diet can reduce people‘s risk of heart disease and high blood pressure.Alongside a healthy diet, being active is another important factor (因素) in living a longer life, as we can see from the example of Switzerland. The country‘s Federal Statistics Office said the explanation for its people‘s high life expectancy is simple: ―There have been improvements in [disease] prevention (预防) efforts. Practicing sport has also become widespread, so the population has been very active for a long time.‖Lose bad habits, gain timeFOUR common bad habits all together – smoking, drinking too much, not enough exercise and poor diet – can age you by 12 years, new research suggests. The findings are from a study that followed nearly 5,000 British adults for 20 years. They provide an even better reason for living a healthy lifestyle. Overall, the 314 people studied had all four unhealthy behaviors. Among them, 91, or 29 percent, died during the study. Among the 387 healthiest people with none of the four habits, only 32, or about 8 percent, died. The risky (有风险的) behaviors were: smoking; taking more than three alcoholic (酒精的) drinks a day for men and more than two daily for women; getting less than two hours of exercise a week; and eating fruits and vegetables fewer than three times daily. These habits put together increased the risk of death and made people seem 12 years older than people in the healthiest group, said lead researcher Elisabeth Kvaavik of the University of Oslo, Norway. The healthiest group included never-smokers and those who had quit; teetotalers, women who had fewer than two drinks daily and men who hadfewer than three; those who got at least two hours of exercise weekly; and those who ate fruits and vegetables at least three times daily.―You don‘t need to be extreme (极端的)‖ to be in the healthy group, Kvaavik said. ―These behaviors add up, so together it‘s quite good. It should be possible for most peop le to manage to do it.‖For example, one carrot, one apple and a glass of orange juice would be enough for the fruit and vegetable requirement (要求) in the study, Kvaavik said. He pointed out that the amounts are pretty modest and less strict than many guidelines. The US government recommends (建议) at least four cups of fruits or vegetables daily for adults, and about two and a half hours of exercise weekly.Study participants were 4,886 British adults aged 18 and older, or 44 years old on average. They were asked about various lifestyle habits. The researchers followed their health situations for the next 20 years. They found the most common causes of death included heart disease and cancer, both related to unhealthy lifestyles.June Stevens, a University of North Carolina public health researcher, said the results are in line with previous studies that examined the effects ofhealth-related habits on longevity (寿命).The findings don‘t mean that everyone with a healthy lifestyle will live longer than those who don‘t, but it will increase the odds (几率), Stevens said. The difference between 'thin' and 'sick'要美丽,更要健康!时尚界拒绝"排骨"美女。

While it offers numerous benefits, the pervasive negative impacts on individuals and society as a whole cannot be overlooked. In this essay, I shall argue that the detrimental consequences of social media far outweigh its perceived advantages. One of the primary drawbacks of social media is its potential to foster addiction and disrupt well-being. The constant notifications, likes, and messages act as a potent stimulus, leading to compulsive usage and reduced attention spans. Studies have shown that excessive social media use can contribute to anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbances. Moreover, the endless stream of carefully curated content can create a distorted sense of reality and body image, particularly among young users.Furthermore, social media has been implicated in thespread of misinformation and the perpetuation of echo chambers. The algorithms that govern our feeds tend to amplify content that confirms our existing beliefs, leading to a narrowing of perspectives and a polarization of opinions. This can stifle critical thinking and make it difficult for individuals to engage in meaningful dialogue. Moreover, the anonymity afforded by online platforms can embolden individuals to engage in cyberbullying and other forms of harmful behavior without consequence.Social media can also negatively impact relationships and social interactions. While it may facilitate connections with distant friends and family, it can also lead to reduced face-to-face communication and a decline in real-world relationships. The constant need to project a curated image online can also create a false sense of intimacy, leading to superficial and transactional interactions. Additionally, the fear of missing out (FOMO) can create a sense of anxiety and social pressure, driving individuals to engage in activities that may not align with their true values. In contrast to these negative effects, proponents of social media often tout its benefits for communication, education, and social activism. While it is true that these platforms can provide opportunities for staying connected, accessing information, and organizing social movements, these advantages must be weighed against the significant drawbacks mentioned above. Furthermore, many of these benefits can be achieved through alternative channels that do not carry the same risks and detriments. In conclusion, while social media offers certain benefits, its negative effects on individuals and society are undeniably significant and far-reaching. From addiction and mental health issues to misinformation and social division, the pervasive influence of social media comes at a great cost. It is imperative that we critically examine our relationship with these platforms and prioritize the well-being of our communities and ourselves.中文回答:你的任务:写一篇文章,论述以下说法:社交媒体的负面影响大于正面影响。

Has it ever occurred to you that your professors and other school personnel have certain goals for your growth and maturity during your college years? 2.During this time, students are going through an identity crisis and are endeavoring to find out who they are and what their strengths and weaknesses are. They have, of course, plenty of both. It is important to know how people perceive themselves as well as how other people perceive them. According to Piers and Landau, in an article discussing the theories of Erik H. Erickson in International Encyclopedia of Social Sciences (1979), identity is determined by genetic endowment (what is inherited from parents), shaped by environment, and influenced by chance events. People are influenced by their environment and, in turn, influence their environment. How people see themselves in both roles is unquestionably a part of their identity.2在这段时期,学生们正经受自我认同危机,他们努力要了解自己的身份,掌握自身的优缺点。

英语书第三单元的3a作文仿写
英语书第三单元的3a作文仿写In the tapestry of life, experiences weave intricate threads, shaping our perspectives and enriching our understanding of the world. Every encounter, every interaction, and every challenge we face leaves anindelible mark on our character, molding us into the individuals we are today. Among the myriad experiences that have left a profound impact on my life, one particular moment stands out as a transformative turning point. It was during an ordinary afternoon in the bustlingcity that I stumbled upon a scene that would forever alter the course of my life. As I navigated the crowded streets, my attention was drawn to a group of people gathered around a young woman. She was huddled in a corner, her frail body covered in rags, her eyes downcast in shame. Passersby hurried past, their faces etched with indifference as if she were merely an invisible speck in the urban landscape.A surge of compassion washed over me as I realized thedepth of her plight. Society had cast her aside, labeling her as an outcast, unworthy of their attention or assistance. The realization that such suffering could exist in the midst of such abundance filled me with a mix of sadness and indignation.Mustering all my courage, I approached the young woman and gently inquired if she needed help. Her eyes flickered up to meet mine, and for a brief moment, I saw a glimmer of hope amidst the despair. With trembling hands, I helped her gather her meager belongings and offered to buy her a meal.As we sat together at a sma ll café, I listenedintently to her story. Her name was Sarah, and she had fallen on hard times after losing her job and being evicted from her home. Desperation had led her to the streets, where she had been living for several months.Sarah's story was a stark reminder of the harshrealities that countless individuals face. It revealed the fragility of our existence and the ease with which ourlives could be shattered by unexpected circumstances. Irealized that the barriers separating the fortunate from the unfortunate were often paper-thin, and that a little compassion and assistance could make all the difference. From that day forward, I made a conscious decision to dedicate my life to helping others in need. I volunteered at a local soup kitchen, where I witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by the homeless and the hungry. I became an advocate for social justice, speaking out againstinequality and oppression. And I never forgot Sarah, whose story served as a constant reminder of the power of human connection and the importance of making a difference. The experience of meeting Sarah transformed my life in countless ways. It taught me the true meaning of empathy, the importance of standing up for what is right, and the profound impact that even the smallest acts of kindness can have. It ignited a passion within me that has never waned, and it continues to inspire me to strive for a more just and compassionate world. As I reflect on the path that life has taken me, I ameternally grateful for the encounter with Sarah. It was a moment that shattered my complacency, opened my eyes to the suffering of others, and set me on a lifelong journey of service. The threads of that experience have been woveninto the fabric of my being, shaping me into the person I am today.。

读了三本书后写一篇英语作文(范文)
读了三本书后写一篇英语作文(范文)全文共3篇示例,供读者参考篇1Three Books That Changed My PerspectiveAs a high school student, I've read a lot of books for my English classes over the years. Most of them were just homework assignments that I diligently completed and then promptly forgot about. However, there are a few books that really stuck with me and changed how I view the world. These three novels expanded my understanding of different cultures, challenged my assumptions, and helped shape who I am today. The first book that made a lasting impact on me was Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. I read this novel in my sophomore year as part of a unit on African literature. At first, I'll admit I wasn't too thrilled about reading a book set in a small Nigerian village before the colonization era. It seemed like it would be boring and hard to relate to. Boy, was I wrong! From the very first chapter, I was immediately drawn into the fascinating world of the Ibo people and their rich cultural traditions. Achebe's vivid descriptions helped me vividly imaginelife in the village of Umuofia—everything from the intricate masks worn during ceremonies to the high-stakes agricultural cycle. I felt like I knew the protagonist Okonkwo and understood his single-minded drive to be seen as a powerful and respected man.But more than just being a glimpse into an unfamiliar culture, Things Fall Apart served as a devastating critique of European colonialism and how it ripped apart the social fabric of the Ibo people. I realized how deeply my own perspectives were shaped by a Westernized, Eurocentric view of history and humanity. This novel forced me to recognize my own unconscious biases and cultural blind spots. It was a startling wake-up call about the dangers of seeing one's own traditions and values as inherently superior to others'.The broader themes of imperialism, identity, and cultural conflict gave me a lot to ponder. After finishing the book, I found myself feeling both outraged at the injustices inflicted on the Ibo people, but also somewhat complicit in perpetuating those attitudes through my lack of awareness. It was an uncomfortable realization, but one that motivated me to be more conscious about seeking out narratives from other cultures and questioning my assumptions.Another book that significantly broadened my worldview was The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. This haunting tale of an ethnic Pashtun boy named Amir and his closest friend Hassan, who is a member of the marginalized Hazara minority, is set against the backdrop of the tumultuous recent history of Afghanistan. Like with Things Fall Apart, I knew very little about this part of the world before reading The Kite Runner, beyond some vague awareness of the Soviet invasion and Taliban control.Through Hosseini's immersive storytelling, the citizens of Kabul and their daily lives came alive for me in a way news reports and textbooks never could. I felt Amir's guilt and shame over the way he betrayed Hassan's loyalty. I raged at the injustice of Hassan being persecuted simply for his ethnicity and denied basic human rights. And I marveled at the resilience and hope embodied by characters like Amir's father, who refused to flee Afghanistan despite the dangers.More than just educating me about the history and diversity of Afghan cultures, The Kite Runner prompted me to think deeply about fundamental moral issues like sin, redemption, loyalty, and what it means to "be good." Amir's feelings of remorse and his desperate quest to atone for his pasttransgressions raised thorny questions about whether being a "good person" is even possible when we inevitably all make mistakes and ethical lapses at some point. The book left me with no easy answers, but it did leave me wanting to always strive to cultivate virtues like compassion, integrity, and moral courage. The final book that made a huge impact was Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. As a memoir by the popular comedian recounting his upbringing as a mixed-race child in apartheid-era South Africa, I expected some humorous anecdotes and illuminating stories about a dark period of history. What I didn't anticipate was just how profoundly thought-provoking and emotionally resonant this book would be.Noah's ability to interweave lightness and laughter withgut-wrenching reflections on oppression and injustice was masterful. His accounts of being forced to understand and navigate the byzantine racist laws and social codes from a shockingly young age were both enraging and deeply saddening. Yet he still managed to inject humor and warmth into the narrative and bring vibrancy to the everyday details of township life.Beyond being an eye-opening window into apartheid South Africa, what struck me most was Noah's nuanced perspectiveand compassion towards all people, regardless of race, class, or belief system. He avoided flattening anyone into a stereotype or caricature, instead using his observations of individual behavior to poignantly comment on the universal struggles and shared hopes that bind humanity together. His stories made me see the immense harm of stereotyping and dehumanizing "the other," which tragically tore so many communities and relationships apart under apartheid.Noah's memoir has inspired me to be more accepting and make more of an effort to find common ground across differences. It also motivated me to dig deeper into learning about the African writers, thinkers, and activists who fought for equality and human rights during that period. I want to elevate more of those courageous voices that have historically been marginalized or silenced.Ultimately, these three novels irrevocably changed how I see myself, others, and my role as a global citizen. They cracked open my sheltered perspective and exposed me to the diversity of human experiences far beyond my own limited worldview. More than just education in a traditional sense, these books fueled introspection, cultivated empathy, and underscored the immense value in seeking out stories unlike my own.No longer can I be a passive recipient of theculturally-ingrained narratives I was raised with. I feel I have an ethical obligation to critically examine the lenses through which I perceive reality and to ensure I'm seeing the full picture by amplifying silenced or neglected voices. Doing so is the only way to expand my circle of understanding and compassion to encompass all of humanity. After being so profoundly impacted by these works of literature, I know I can never go back to my old way of seeing and thinking.篇2Reading Into New WorldsAs a student, I'm always looking for ways to expand my mind and gain new perspectives. This past summer, I dove into three incredible books that not only entertained me but also challenged my thinking in powerful ways. The first book I read was "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini. This emotionally gripping novel follows the story of Amir, a young boy in Afghanistan, and his journey of guilt, redemption, and the unbreakable bond between him and his childhood friend Hassan. Hosseini paints a vivid picture of life in Kabul before the Soviet invasion and the rise of the Talibanregime. His poetic descriptions transport you to the dusty streets, lush pomegranate trees, and kite fighting tournaments that were a way of life. But beneath the vibrant imagery lies a heart-wrenching tale of betrayal, cowardice, and the devastating consequences of standing by silently. Amir's guilt over his inaction to protect Hassan from a horrific attack haunts him for decades and drives him to eventually return to Taliban-controlled Kabul to make amends. Through his powerful storytelling, Hosseini shed light on the plight of the Hazara minority in Afghanistan and the complexities of friendship, social class, and the unbreakable bond between a father and son.The depths of human resilience in the face of adversity captivated me. Amir's arc from a flawed, cowardly youth to a selfless, morally redeemed man was both inspiring and thought-provoking. It made me reflect on the choices we make, the people we hurt even unknowingly, and the enduring power of atonement. This book was a poignant exploration of the human spirit that will stay with me forever.Next, I picked up "Educated" by Tara Westover, a breathtaking memoir that chronicles her journey from being raised by survivalist parents who rejected formal education, toeventually earning a PhD from Cambridge University. Westover's ability to vividly reconstruct her childhood surrounded by a radical separatist family dynamic in rural Idaho is astounding. The brutal reality of growing up in a world filled with psychological abuse, religious fanaticism, and constant fear is revealed in raw, honest prose.Yet what struck me most was Westover's unwavering thirst for knowledge and her courageous quest to liberate herself from the mental chains imposed by her upbringing. Her tireless pursuit of education in the face of immense opposition, from teaching herself algebra from an old textbook to ultimately gaining admission to Harvard and Cambridge, was an incredible testament to the transformative power of learning.Westover's story forced me to confront my own beliefs about family loyalty, the depths of human resilience, and the liberating potential of education. Her journey from living in a world governed by fear and oppression to one of intellectual freedom and self-discovery was both harrowing and uplifting. This book challenged me to never take my educational opportunities for granted and instilled in me a deep appreciation for the doors that learning can open. The final book I read was "Born a Crime" by Trevor Noah, the wildly popular comedian and host of "The Daily Show." Noah's memoir offers a hilarious, yet insightful look into his childhood growing up as the son of a white Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother in apartheid South Africa, where their very existence as a family was considered a criminal act.Through his sharp wit and keen observational humor, Noah deftly navigates the complexities of race relations, identity politics, and the absurdities of institutionalized segregation laws that impacted every aspect of life. From being thrown out of churches and restaurants for the "crime" of existing, to having to disguise his identity when venturing out with his mother, Noah's stories shine a light on the illogical cruelty of apartheid in a way that is both humorous and heartbreaking. But what resonated with me most was Noah's ability to find humor, joy, and valuable life lessons amidst immense hardship and discrimination. His unconditional love for his fiercely determined mother, who defied unjust laws to provide for her son, was both inspiring and touching. Noah's resilience in the face of adversity and his unique outsider perspective as a perpetual "crime" taught me the importance of finding humoreven in the darkest of situations and embracing one's identity, no matter how marginalized society may deem it.These three books, while vastly different in their subject matter, all shared a common thread of exploring the depths of human strength, resilience, and the power of hope in the face of overwhelming adversity. They challenged my perspectives, expanded my worldview, and instilled in me a deeper appreciation for the complexities of the human experience."The Kite Runner" taught me about the enduring power of redemption and the consequences of our choices. "Educated" opened my eyes to the liberating force of knowledge and the harrowing realities of oppressive belief systems. And "Born a Crime" highlighted the absurdities of racism and the ability to find humor and joy even in the darkest of moments. As a student, these books have not only entertained and moved me, but they have also profoundly shaped my thinking and outlook on the world. They have inspired me to be more courageous, compassionate, and intellectually curious. And above all, they have reinforced the transformative magic of storytelling – how books can transport us into new realms, broaden our horizons, and remind us of our shared humanity. So I encourage all my fellow students to embrace thelife-changing power of reading. To step outside your comfort zones and immerse yourselves in stories that challenge your assumptions and push the boundaries of your understanding. For it is through these literary journeys that we can continue to grow, learn, and ultimately become more empathetic and enlightened global citizens.篇3A Journey Through BooksWhen I was younger, reading always felt like a chore. I'd sit at my desk, squinting at the small text on the pages, my mind constantly wandering elsewhere. Books were just something I had to get through for school assignments. But over the past few months, I've discovered the transformative power of diving into a great book. Through the stories contained within their pages, I've traveled to different worlds, experienced lives utterly unlike my own, and gained profound insights into the human condition. The three books that left the deepest impression were "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini, "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak, and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky.Hosseini's heartbreaking tale of friendship, betrayal, guilt, and redemption in Afghanistan is a literary masterpiece that shattered my naïve beliefs about the world. The vivid depictions of the ravages of war, the harsh realities of life under an oppressive regime, and the unbreakable bonds of family moved me to tears on numerous occasions. Yet what struck me most was the protagonist Amir's lifelong journey to atone for his unforgivable childhood sin against his best friend Hassan. His struggle to find redemption parallels humanity's endless quest for salvation and second chances. I found myself drawn into Amir's world, putting myself in his shoes and wondering how I would navigate such nightmarish moral dilemmas. This book opened my eyes to the complexities of the human experience far beyond my sheltered existence. In sharp contrast, "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak is narrated by Death itself amidst the horrors of World War II Germany. At first, this unique narrative voice unsettled me. How could something as impassive and inevitable as Death have such vibrant thoughts and personalities? But as the story unfolded, I realized Death was the perfect narrator to convey the resilience of the human spirit even in the darkest of times. The casual cruelty, the mindless hatred, the violence that surrounds young Liesel and her family is juxtaposed with small acts of kindness, love, and humanity's perseverance to create beauty regardless of circumstances. Liesel's obsession with words and books as a means of escape became a fascinating metaphor for the enduring power of storytelling to inspire hope. This book filled me with equal parts sorrow and inspiration. Finally, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" felt almost like reading my own teenage diaries and innermost thoughts at times. Charlie's honest, awkward, and heartfelt letters to an unnamed "friend" capture all the confusion, pain, and ultimately the triumphs of adolescence in a stunningly authentic way. From his struggles with mental health, sexuality, drugs, and trauma, to his first experiences with love, friendship, and finding oneself - I saw glimpses of my own life reflected in his words. Chbosky avoids passing judgment and allows Charlie's story to unfold organically, making even his darkest moments feel understandable and relatable from a teenager's perspective. I found myself reacting so viscerally to this book because in reading it, I was forced to confront many of my own unresolved issues and memories from that tumultuous time of self-discovery. Weaving popular music and literature references throughout anchored this classic in its distinctive time period yet made its themes timelessly universal. In reading these three novels, I've been an Afghan boy confronting the consequences of mental and physical scars, a young German girl seeking solace in the power of words, and an introspective American teenager stumbling towards finding my identity. Their stories may be different, but at their core they share a fundamental humanity that transcends cultures, eras, and individual experiences. Perhaps that's the magic and enduring relevance of great literature - the ability to hold a mirror up to our souls and find pieces of ourselves reflected back in the most unexpected places.I now realize that books aren't just words printed on pages - they're portals into other lives, other realities. They cultivate empathy by allowing us to step outside our own limited perspectives and see the world through someone else's eyes. Books challenge us, unsettle us, and ultimately expand our capacity for understanding one another across all boundaries. With every book I've read, I've emerged slightly changed, my outlook reframed through a fresh lens. I've laughed, cried, raged, and questioned things I once took for granted. Reading has become far more than recreational entertainment - it's sustenance, a pathway towards greater wisdom andself-awareness.So while I may have started this reading journey grudgingly, I now embark on each new book with a sense of excitement and hopeful anticipation. Who knows what profound truths and unforgettable characters await me within those pages? Perhaps the next novel will be a travelogue to a destination I've never fathomed, or a instruction manual for navigating life's most perplexing dilemmas. One thing is certain - I'll never take the gift of being able to lose and find myself in books for granted again. For that is the greatest reward reading has to offer - the opportunity to become someone else, if only for a brief moment, so that you can forever be changed.。
English Answer:In today's rapidly evolving world, the role of education is undergoing a profound transformation. No longer confined to the traditional classroom setting, education has expanded into a lifelong endeavor facilitated by the advent of technology and the increasingaccessibility of information. This shift has given rise to various educational philosophies and approaches, each with its own merits and drawbacks. In this essay, we will explore the concept of lifelong learning, examining its key principles, benefits, and challenges, and discussing its implications for the future of education and the workforce.Lifelong learning is a philosophy that emphasizes the continuous acquisition of knowledge and skills throughout one's life, irrespective of age or formal educational attainment. It recognizes that learning is not limited to the confines of a classroom or the pursuit of academiccredentials but is an ongoing process that spans a lifetime. This approach challenges the traditional view of education as a one-time event that concludes with the completion of formal schooling and encourages individuals to embrace a mindset of continuous learning. The benefits of lifelong learning are multifaceted and can positively impact both individuals and society as a whole. Firstly, it empowers individuals with the knowledge, skills, and adaptability necessary to navigate the ever-changing demands of the workforce. In today's dynamic job market, where technological advancements and globalization are constantly reshaping industries, the ability to continuously learn and adapt is crucial for career success and economic security. Secondly, lifelong learning fosters personal growth and intellectual curiosity. By continually engaging in learning activities, individuals can expandtheir knowledge base, develop new interests, and cultivatea deeper understanding of the world around them.Despite the numerous benefits, lifelong learning also presents certain challenges that need to be addressed. Onechallenge lies in the time and effort required for continuous learning. With busy schedules and competing priorities, it can be difficult for individuals to find the time and motivation to engage in ongoing learning activities. Additionally, access to high-quality and affordable learning resources can be a barrier for some, particularly in underserved communities. To address these challenges, it is imperative for policymakers and educational institutions to promote and support lifelong learning initiatives. Governments can provide funding for adult education programs, create flexible learning pathways, and recognize non-traditional forms of learning. Educational institutions can develop and offer accessible and engaging learning opportunities tailored to the needs of working adults and lifelong learners. The future of education and the workforce is inextricably linked to the concept of lifelong learning. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected and knowledge-based, the ability to continuously learn andadapt will be essential for both individuals and organizations. Lifelong learning empowers individuals to thrive in a rapidly changing world, promotes personalgrowth and intellectual curiosity, and contributes to amore knowledgeable and adaptable workforce. By investing in lifelong learning, we invest in the future of our economies and societies.中文回答:终身学习是一种强调在个人一生中持续获得知识和技能的理念,无论年龄或正式的教育程度如何。
英语写作范文BooksandMe
英语写作范⽂Books and MeIt's hard to imagine what our lives would be like if there were no books. Books are of benefit to us. Mother often tells me [remembers] (1) that I loved books very much when I was a child. And now, I think nothing can let me love them any less, for they have become an important part of my life. When I could know [read] ( 2 ) some words and know how to look up a word in a dictionary, I began to read Aesop's Fables, and The Arabian Nights . They taught me a lot of things, such as “Treat your friends as they deserve to be treated,” “Judge things by their true value,” and so on. I'll never forget them. One day, when my mother came back from work she found me crying. She was surprised at first, for I was usually so “headstrong” that as if nothing could make me weep even after a punishment from my parents [that nothing seemed to be able to make me weep even after being punished by my parents ] ( 3 ) . “Why are you crying? Did your teacher punish you at school? ”she asked. “No, Mum.” At last I was able to look up with tearful eyes and said:“Jiang Jie (江姐) was killed by the enemy. ” Then Mother noticed that there was a book in my hands. As time goes on, books have accompanied me for sixteen years. I have lived very happy [happily] (4) with them. Now when I am free, I often go to bookstores to buy some new books that I want very much. I have learned a lot of things from them. Books have become good friends of mine and I will never part with them. 江西省安福浒矿中学⾼三张伟 评语 ⽂章⽤举例法介绍了⾃⼰如何与书成了亲密的朋友。

Unit 7 The Joy of T ravelTraveling Is WonderfulIn school we always study hard and rarely have time for play and relaxation. During our vacation, we can do what we like. Some students go swimming, watch TV, go to the cinema, etc. But all I want to do is to travel.Traveling is interesting. Y ou can see a lot of fascinating things and you can learn about history. Three years ago, I went to Beijing. When I was in the Summer Palace, I walked through the famous Long Corridor, admiring the beautiful pictures drawn on it. In the Imperial Palace, I saw a lot of rare treasures I had never seen before. I went to the Great Wall as well as the Ming Tombs. After visiting these famous places, I can’t help feeling proud of my great motherland.I think it is important to travel to different countries, if possible, so that you can learn about different cultures and customs. It can widen your knowledge of the world. In addition to learning new things, you can also discover the beauty of nature by yourself. When you are on the top of a mountain, you can breathe fresh air, you can see green scenery below and you can hear the sounds of nature. It is a very wonderful feeling. Now I’d like to invite you to go on a trip with me. Can you refuse?I Enjoy TravelingI enjoy traveling. I even consider it as a part of my life. When winter vacation approaches, the question for me to ask is not whether I should travel but where I should travel.I find traveling can do me a lot of good when I look back on my trips. Traveling brings me knowledge and pleasure. It puts me in a good mood. When I go back to my studies, I work more happily. As for knowledge, traveling helps me learn a lot about local customs and it broadens my views. Three years ago, I went to the “European City”in Wuxi, where there are many models of European architecture. During that trip I learned something about Europe. Sometimes, traveling can bring me unexpected pleasure, too. Last year, two friends and I went to a small town near the Tai Mountain. The fact that the town had beautiful scenery and low expenses made us overjoyed. Traveling is uplifting because it is relaxing and we can get rid of our anxiety and stress during the trip. If we travel together with our friends, we can improve our friendship through the shared experience. We can also meet new people and make new friends. In the future, I plan to do more traveling.Unit 6 AnimalsAnimals Should Be T rainedThere are a wide variety of animals in the world. And many of them are highly intelligent. So if we train some animals to work for human beings, we can save a lot of money and manpower.First, some kinds of animals can be trained based on their capacity to do certain types of jobs better than humans. For example, since dogs have a superior ability to track down odors, we can train them to find illegal drugs, earthquake victims, or even ancient tombs.Second, some animals can even lend us their hands. The monkey is a good example. Monkeys can be trained to learn to open doors, fetch tools, bring books, etc. So they can help those who cannot move about freely because of some physical problems. Monkeys make the lives of these people happier and more comfortable. Finally, in some cases, using animals not only saves money but also trouble. Using dolphins as underwater guards can be better and cheaper than any man-made tracking devices. In a word, animals should be trained to help humans. If we train animals in the proper way, both humans and animals can get along very well.Give Animals Their FreedomHumans and animals are both creatures of nature, so we are equal. We have no right to take advantage of them. However, many animals are now being trained to work for us. Monkeys are trained as servants, dogs as hunters and sniffers, and dolphins as soldiers.Beasts should be allowed to run freely over great distances and birds, fly freely in the blue sky. When they are in nature, they are active and able to live a normal life. But when they are kept in captivity, they are bored and frustrated. If we have the right to choose our fate, so do animals. So when we force them to serve us, they have no freedom and are like slaves. What’s more, a lot of animals lose their lives when they help humans. But most humans don't care about their lives at all. As we know, life belongs to us only once and therefore is priceless, and it is also true with animals. But we show no mercy to animals when they have done so much for us. We are cold-blooded creatures and we should criticize ourselves. In brief, we should treat animals in the same way we treat other people. Give animals their freedom.Unit 5 LanguageShould Learners Aim to Speak English with a Native-Speaker Pronunciation?Sample OneIn my opinion, there is no point in aiming to speak English with a native-speaker pronunciation. For most people, it is a waste of time.First, language is a tool for communication among human beings. If people we meet understand what we are saying, that isall that is necessary. We do not need to imitate native speaker's pronunciation. In any case, there are many types of accents, so which one should we choose to imitate?Second, the most important thing is how well we organize what we want to express. Our ideas should be clear and easy to understand. To do so, we should be able to use right words and correct grammar.Third, given the fact that we live in China, it seems a little bit pointless for us to try desperately hard to get rid of our national accent in order to speak BBC English. Finally, each of us has our own style when we speak. If we can give free rein to personal style, the English-speaking world will become more colorful and more interesting. In a word, I prefer to speak with my characteristic and recognizable pronunciation, so long as listeners can understand me. Sample T woY es, I think it is important to aim for native-speaker pronunciation. First of all, I think perfection is always a good goal in any aspect of language-learning. We aim for perfect grammar, so why not perfect pronunciation?Second, the purpose of learning a language is to communicate with native-speakers or people from other parts of the world. The better my pronunciation is, the more easily they will be able to understand me. And I want people to unders tand me without any difficulty.Third, English is now an international language and I would like to be part of that community. If my pronunciation is like a native-speaker's, I will blend into the community more naturally. I'll feel pleased if I am taken for a native-speaker. Even if I can't speak so well, I don't like to spoil the language by terrible pronunciation. So learners should aim to speak English with a native-speaker pronunciation.Unit 4 Career PlanningApplication LetterSample OneMay 5, _____Apartment 2E3465 Boulevard EastDallas, TX 75221Fidelity National BankP.O. Write a composition and describe what you saw and said to the police, as well as what the police did while on the spot.SampleLast night at about 11 o'clock, my brother and I came home from a movie. As I was opening the door to our apartment, I heard cries of babies from next door. A couple with three kids lived there. The couple didn't seem to have any job and they spent most of their time at home. The kids ranged in age from one year to five years old. They were one girl and two boys and they were pretty. I knocked at their door but nobody answered. The cries went even louder. I figured there was something wrong. My brother reminded me of the Crimestoppers number and I called. Within ten minutes, the police came. There were three of them. They knocked at the door but still no one came to it. They called the superintendent and he opened the door with the master key. Inside we could see three kids crying over the couple who were lying on the floor, unconscious. There were about a dozen used syringes beside them. The room smelled terrible. Ambulances came after fifteen minutes, taking the couple to the hospital. The police took the kids under care immediately. It has been said that they will be staying at the Interval House for women and children for a while.Unit 2 Myths and legendsDirections:Y ou have talked much about myths, legends and stories in this unit. Now write a composition, which can be a myth, a legend, o r a story. Remember to use connectors wherever possible and give a vivid narration.Sample 1:Jack and His GirlfriendsJack was young, rich and fond of girls. He hardly ever did any work, and spent most of his time enjoying himself. One summer he bought a big motor-boat. As soon as it was ready to go to sea, he telephoned one of the girls he had met somewhere, and invited her for a trip in his new motor-boat. It was the first of many successful invitations of this kind. The way Jack used to invite a girl for a trip in his boat was like this: he would begin by saying, "Hello, Laura (or whatever the girl's name was). I have just bought a beautiful new motor-boat, and I would like to take you out for a trip in it."The girl's answer was usually cautious, because everybody in that part of the country knew Jack's reputation with girls. She would say something like this, "Oh, really? That's nice. What name have you given to that boat?"Jack would then answer, "Well, Laura, I have named it after you."Of course, the girl would feel very proud that Jack had chosen her name for the boat out of the names of all his many girlfriends, and she would think that Jack must really love her. She would therefore be quite willing to accept his invitation to go for a trip in his motor-boat.It would not be until she got down to the harbor and actually saw the boat that she would understand how cleverly Jack had tricked her. Because there in neat gold letters on the boat she would see its name—"After Y ou". (From Selections of Stories for Reproduction)Sample 2:Stop or Slow?As one approaches some crossroads, one comes to a sign which says that drivers have to stop when they come to the main road ahead. At other crossroads, drivers have to go slowly, but they do not actually have to stop (unless, of course, there is something coming along the main road); and at still others, they do not have either to stop or to go slowly, because they are themselves on the main road.Mr Williams, who was always a very careful driver, was driving home from work one evening when he came to a crossroads. It had a "slow" sign, so he slowed down when he came to the main road, looked both ways to see that nothing was coming, and then drove across without stopping completely. At once he heard a police whistle, so he pulled in to the side of the road and stopped. A policeman walked over to him with a notebook and pencil in his hand and said, "Y ou didn't stop at that crossing.""But the sign there doesn't say 'stop' ", answered Mr Williams. "It just says 'slow', and I did go slowly."The policeman looked around him, and a look of surprise came over his face. Then he put his notebook and pencil away, scratched his head and said, "Well, I'll be blowed (该死)! I am in the wrong street!"(From Selections of Stories for Reproduction)Sample 3:The Ungrateful TigerA long time ago, high in the mountains, a tiger came to a small village. It wandered around and ate one of the legs of a man in the village. The people in the village gathered together and decided the best thing to do was to dig deep holes to trap the tiger. Everyone helped, including the bigger children and the man whose leg was not there. They dug deep holes near all the tracks leading to the village.A few days later a young man came to visit his uncle and heard loud howling sounds as he walked along a track to the village. He saw a deep hole with a tiger in it. The tiger pleaded with the young man to help him, saying his wife and children would be worried. The young man was a very kind person. He helped the tiger get out of the hole by pushing a large tree branc h into the deep hole. Then he felt suddenly very nervous, standing next to the large tiger, and decided to leave. "Not so fast," said the tiger. "I'm going to eat you. It was humans who dug that hole to trap me and since you're a human I am going to eat you." The young man said it was not fair and he suggested they should ask someone else to judge. They found an ox and told him the story. "I think it's fair for the tiger to eat you," said the ox. "Humans treat us oxen very badly. We're made to work all day and when you want to, you kill us and eat us." Then they went to ask the biggest tree in the forest. "I think it's fair for the tiger to eat you. Y ou humans chop us down whenever you want to and set fire to the forest and burn us." The tiger looked pleased and showed his big teeth as he smiled at the young man. The young man was so frightened that his legs began to shake. He saw a hare hopping along. "Please, Mr. Hare, help judge if Mr. Tiger should eat me."The hare listened to their story, then asked to see exactly what happened. They all went to the deep hole where the young man had rescued the tiger. "Now show me exactly where you were," the hare said to the tiger. Anxious to hurry up and eat the young man, the tiger jumped down into the hole. "Was this branch in the hole?" asked the hare. "No, it wasn't," answered the tiger. The young man and the hare pulled the branch out. "My judgment is that it's not fair for you to eat the young man," said the hare. "Just because it was humans who dug the hole doesn't make it fair for you to eat him. Y ou should have been grateful for his help."The hare hopped away and the young man hurried off to the village, leaving the ungrateful tiger howling in the deep hole.Unit 1 PersonalityDirections:Write an article entitled “My Advice to Pessimists”. Your writing must cover the following two points: 1)disadvantages of pessimism2)way(s) of overcoming pessimismSample OneIt is believed that pessimism often leads to hopelessness, sickness and failure, while optimism us ually brings happiness, good health and success. Pessimists also make those around them very miserable. Therefore, pessimists should change their way of thinking and overcome the negative aspects of their personalities. Here are a few tips for them:1. Try to smile more often. A smile has great power. It can chase sadness away. It will make you and other people feel happy. And it may even make things easier and better. Smiling in the morning makes a good beginning for the day. A smile is the most important sign of optimism.2. Build up your self-confidence. Try to discover as many of your personal strengths as you can. Then write them all down. Read them several times when you are getting ready to do something or when you are facing difficulties. Y our list will help you see your abilities.3. Change your way of thinking.Don't always think that things will go wrong or that if they do there will be terrible results. Instead, convince yourself that things will improve and that you can work hard to help improve them. If you fail, think about what you have learned from the failure. If you succeed, praise yourself. Don't be too modest! There is nothing more encouraging than self-praise.Try your best to become an optimist.Sample T woAre you an optimist or a pessimist? If you're a pessimist, here is some advice for you.As everyone knows, pessimism is harmful to people. It makes you unhappy and unhealthy, and even brings depression, loneliness and failure. Pessimists tend to suffer more failures and setbacks because they don't believe they can succeed and thus don't struggle for it. Optimism, by contrast, can make you happy, healthy and successful. So it is good for you to change yourself from a pessimist to an optimist. Here are some suggestions for you to become an optimist:1. Remember that everyone experiences failures and disappointments. So when you fail, don't blame yourself too much. It may not be your fault.2. When you fail in something, profit from the failure as a learning experience instead of getting depressed. And next time, you can make your plans to be more successful.3. When you fail, don't be discouraged. Try again. Don't let negative thoughts hold you back. Just give yourself another chance. So never give up just because you failed.Pessimism is harmful, but it can be changed. Trust yourself and try to adopt an optimistic attitude, and then you will be a winner in life more often.。
