While social media platforms provide numerous benefits, they also have a significant impact on interpersonal communication. One major impact of social media on interpersonal communication is the ease and convenience of staying connected. Social media allows individuals to communicate with friends and family from anywhere, at any time. Whether through messages, video calls, or status updates, social media enables instant communication and the sharing of information. This has greatly improved the ability to stay in touch with loved ones, especially for those who are physically apart.Additionally, social media has expanded our social circles and facilitated the formation of new relationships. Through online communities and interest groups, individuals can connect with likeminded people from around the world. This has opened up opportunities for meaningful interactions and the exchange of ideas. People can now build friendships and professional connections beyond geographical boundaries. However, social media has also posed challenges to interpersonal communication. One particular challenge is the loss of nonverbal cues. Much of communication is nonverbal, including body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice. These nonverbal cues provide vital context and emotional depth to conversations. In online communication, these cues are often absent or misunderstood, leading to misinterpretation and misunderstandings. Moreover, social media has the potential to create a sense of isolation and superficiality in relationships. With the focus on curated online personas and the pressure to present a filtered version of oneself, genuine connections can be overshadowed. The constant comparison and fear of missing out can also lead to feelings of inadequacy and social anxiety. Facetoface interactions, on the other hand, allow for a deeper level of understanding and connection. In conclusion, social media has revolutionized interpersonal communication, providing new avenues for connection and information exchange. However, it is important to recognizethe challenges it presents, such as the loss of nonverbal cues and the potential for superficial relationships. Striking a balance between online and offline interactions is crucial for mntning meaningful connections in the digital age.Part II: Writing a LetterDear Professor Thompson,I am writing to express my appreciation for your passionate and engaging teaching style throughout the semester. 2015年6月12月英语六级阅读理解真题及答案(共六套)

2015年6月12月英语六级阅读理解真题及答案(共六套)

2015年6月大学英语六级考试真题(第一套)Passage OneWhen the right person is holding the right job at the right moment, that person's influence is greatly expanded. That is the position in which Janet Yellen, who is expected to be confirmed as the next chair of the Federal Reserve Bank (Fed) in January, now finds herself. If you believe, as many do, that unemployment is the major economic and social concern of our day, then it is no stretch to think Yellen is the most powerful person in the world right now.Throughout the 2008 financial crisis and the recession and recovery that followed, central banks have taken on the role of stimulators of last resort, holding up the global economy with vast amounts of money in the form of asset buying. Yellen, previously a Fed vice chair, was one of the principal architects of the Fed's $3.8 trillion money dump. A star economist known for her groundbreaking work on labor markets, Yellen was a kind of prophetess early on in the crisis for her warnings about the subprime(次级债)meltdown. Now it will be her job to get the Fed and the markets out of the biggest and most unconventional monetary program in history without derailing the fragile recovery. The good news is that Yellen, 67, is particularly well suited to meet these challenges. She has a keen understanding of financial markets, an appreciation for their imperfections and a strong belief that human suffering was more related to unemployment than anything else. Some experts worry that Yellen will be inclined to chase unemployment to the neglect of inflation. But with wages still relatively flat and the economy increasingly divided between the well-off and the long-term unemployed, more people worry about the opposite, deflation(通货紧缩)that would aggravate the economy's problems.Either way, the incoming Fed chief will have to walk a fine line in slowly ending the stimulus. It must be steady enough to deflate bubbles(去泡沫)and bring markets back down to earth but not so quick that it creates another credit crisis.Unlike many past Fed leaders, Yellen is not one to buy into the finance industry's argument that it should be left alone to regulate itself. She knows all along the Fed has been too slack on regulation of finance.Yellen is likely to address the issue right after she pushes unemployment below 6%, stabilizes markets and makes sure that the recovery is more inclusive and robust. As Princeton Professor Alan Blinder says, "She's smart as a whip, deeply logical, willing to argue but also a good listener. She can persuade without creating hostility."All those traits will be useful as the global economy's new power player takes on its most annoying problems.56. What do many people think is the biggest problem facing Janet Yellen?A) Lack of money. B) Subprime crisis. C) Unemployment. D) Social instability.57. What did Yellen help the Fed do to tackle the 2008 financial crisis?A) Take effective measures to curb inflation. B) Deflate the bubbles in the American economy.C) Formulate policies to help financial institutions. D) Pour money into the market through asset buying.58. What is a greater concern of the general public?A) Recession. B) Deflation. C) Inequality. D) Income.59. What is Yellen likely to do in her position as the Fed chief?A) Develop a new monetary program. B) Restore public confidence.C) Tighten financial regulation. D) Reform the credit system.60. How does Alan Blinder portray Yellen?A) She possesses strong persuasive power. C) She is one of the world's greatest economists.B) She has confidence in what she is doing. D) She is the most powerful Fed chief in history.Passage TwoAir pollution is deteriorating in many places around the world. The fact that public parks in cities become crowded as soon as the sun shines proves that people long to breathe in green, open spaces. They do not all know what they are seeking but they flock there, nevertheless. And, in these surroundings, they are generally both peaceful and peaceable. It is rare to see people fighting in a garden. Perhaps struggle unfolds first, not at an economic or social level, but over the appropriation of air, essential to life itself. If human beings can breathe and share air, they don't need to struggle with one another.Unfortunately, in our western tradition, neither materialist nor idealist theoreticians give enough consideration to this basic condition for life. As for politicians, despite proposing curbs on environmental pollution, they have not yet called for it to be made a crime. Wealthy countries are even allowed to pollute if they pay for it.But is our life worth anything other than money? The plant world shows us in silence what faithfulness to life consists of. It also helps us to a new beginning, urging us to care for our breath, not only at a vital but also at a spiritual level. The interdependence to which we must pay the closest attention is that which exists between ourselves and the plant world. Often described as "the lungs of the planet", the woods that cover the earth offer us the gift of breathable air by releasing oxygen. But their capacity to renew the air polluted by industry has long reached its limit. If we lack the air necessary for a healthy life, it is because we have filled it with chemicals and undercut the ability of plants to regenerate it. As we know, rapid deforestation combined with the massive burning of fossil fuels is an explosive recipe for an irreversible disaster. The fight over the appropriation of resources will lead the entire planet to hell unless humans learn to share life, both with each other and with plants. This task is simultaneously ethical and political because it can be discharged only when each takes it upon herself or himself and only when it is accomplished together with others. The lesson taught by plants is that sharing life expands and enhances the sphere of the living, while dividing life into so-called natural or human resources diminishes it. We must come to view the air, the plants and ourselves as the contributors to the preservation of life and growth, rather than a web of quantifiable objects or productive potentialities at our disposal. Perhaps then we would finally begin to live, rather than being concerned with bare survival.61. What does the author assume might be the primary reason that people would struggle with each other?A) To get their share of clean air. B) To pursue a comfortable life.C) To gain a higher social status. D) To seek economic benefits.62. What does the author accuse western politicians of?A) Depriving common people of the right to clean air.B) Giving priority to theory rather than practical action.C) Offering preferential treatment to wealthy countries.D) Failing to pass laws to curb environmental pollution.63. What does the author try to draw our closest attention to?A) The massive burning of fossil fuels. B) Our relationship to the plant world.C) The capacity of plants to renew polluted air.D) Large-scale deforestation across the world.64. How can human beings accomplish the goal of protecting the planet according to the author?A) By showing respect for plants. B) By preserving all forms of life.C) By tapping all natural resources. D) By pooling their efforts together.65. What does the author suggest we do in order not just to survive?A) Expand the sphere of living. B) Develop nature's potentials.C) Share life with nature. 2023年12月大学英语四级真题和答案解析第二套

2023年12月大学英语四级真题和答案解析第二套第一部分:阅读理解Passage 1题目:Directions: There are 4 passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet 2 with a single line through the center.Passage OneQuestions 1 to 5 are based on the following passage.Throughout history societies have struggled with a basic problem: how to ensure that enough people work when the forces against working are so strong. There are two kinds of forces against working—an individual’s desire to enjoy leisure, and the population’s ability to enjoy the fruits of other people’s labor because of the human ability to produce far more than we need to survive. Therefore, work has not always been necessary for survival.Until about 10,000 years ago most living was done by hunting and gathering. Individuals spent, on average, only about 20 hours a week collecting food. Hunting and gathering societies enjoyed an abundance of leisure time. But thesesocieties also had very limited resources to support population growth. Over time, the combination of population growth and low individual productivity created a powerful need for more efficient forms of labor. In the last 500 years this need was met by the Industrial Revolution. Society began investing more heavily in science, technology, and especially machinery, which increased productivity and made work more valuable.Question 1:1.According to the passage, why do societies needpeople to work?A)To ensure survival.B)To increase population growth.C)To invest in machinery.D)To enjoy the fruits of other people’s labor.Question 2:2.Why did hunting and gathering societies haveleisure time?A)They worked very efficiently.B)They could survive without working all the time.C)They had plenty of resources to support populationgrowth.D)They had plenty of leisure facilities.Question 3:3.What does the passage imply about the Industrial Revolution?A)It satisfied the society’s desire for leisure time.B)It provided efficient methods for hunting and gathering.C)It helped the society invest more in science and technology.D)It increased the resources to support population growth.Question 4:4.What can we infer from the passage about the history of human labor?A)It started 10,000 years ago with the Industrial Revolution.B)It emerged as a need when resources were limited.C)It has always been necessary for survival.D)It brought about a scarcity of resources. Question 5:5.What was a significant effect of the IndustrialRevolution?A)Increased individual productivity.B)Reduced the desire for leisure time.C)Decreased the population growth.D)Limited the resources for hunting and gathering.Passage 2题目:Questions 6 to 10 are based on the following passage.Passage TwoThe middle class is the cornerstone of a strong, stable society. The absence of a substantial middle class is a recipe for social and economic instability.Middle class families do not depend on government assistance to enjoy a decent life, and they do not rely on welfare programs. Members of the middle class are independent and self-sufficient. They contribute to the economy by working hard and owning businesses, and they also pay taxes that fund the government.Unfortunately, the middle class is shrinking in many countries around the world. This is a serious problem for society because it leads to an unfair distribution of wealth. Insocieties with a small middle class and a large lower class, the rich become richer while the poor become poorer. This creates a sense of unfairness and a lack of social cohesion. In order to strengthen the middle class, governments must implement policies that promote job creation and education. By creating more job opportunities, governments can help lift people out of poverty and into the middle class. Additionally, investing in education can also contribute to the growth of the middle class as it provides individuals with the skills they need to thrive in the economy.Question 6:6.What does the passage say about the middle class?A)It depends on government assistance.B)It leads to social and economic instability.C)It relies on welfare programs for survival.D)It is self-sufficient and independent.Question 7:7.Why is the shrinking middle class a problem forsociety?A)It leads to an unfair distribution of wealth.B)It creates a stable and strong society.C)It eliminates social cohesion.D)It benefits the rich while harming the poor. Question 8:8.What is one solution proposed in the passage to strengthen the middle class?A)Investing in education.B)Reducing taxes for the rich.C)Implementing welfare programs.D)Decreasing job opportunities.Question 9:9.How can job creation help strengthen the middle class?A)It provides individuals with necessary skills.B)It increases the number of wealthy individuals.C)It reduces the burden on welfare programs.D)It contributes to social cohesion.Question 10:10.What benefit does investing in education bring to the middle class?A)It promotes job creation.B)It leads to an unfair distribution of wealth.C)It helps individuals become self-sufficient.D)It eliminates the lower class in society.第二部分:听力理解Section A题目:A) A magazine article.B) A news report.C) A radio drama.D) A TV program.A)How to solve a technical problem.B)How to look for a job.C)How to buy a car.D)How to prepare for an interview.A)The man should apply for the position.B)The man has no chance of getting the job.C)The woman is not qualified for the job.D)The woman wants the man to work with her.A)Accountant. 英语四六级阅读理解答案文档编制序号:[KK8UY-LL9IO69-TTO6M3-MTOL89-FTT688]四级第二套Section CPassage OneQuestions 57 to 61 are based on the following passage.Across the rich world, well-educated people increasingly work longer than the less-skilled. Some 65% of American men aged 62-74 with a professional degree are in the workforce, compared with 32% of men with only a high-school certificate. This gapis part of a deepening divide between the well-educatedwell-off and the unskilled poor. Rapid technological advance has raised the incomes of the highly skilled while squeezing those of the unskilled. The consequences, for individuals and society, are profound. The world is facing an astonishing rise in the of old people, and they will live longer than ever before. Over the next 20 years the global population of those aged 65 or more will almost double, from 600 million to 1.1 billion. The experience of the 20th century, when greater longevity(长寿)translatedinto more years in retirement rather than more years at work, has persuaded many observers that this shift will lead toslower economic growth, while the swelling ranks of pensioners will create government budget problems. But the notion of a sharp division between the working young and the idle old misses a new trend, the growing gap betweenthe skilled and the unskilled. Employment rates are failing among younger unskilled people, whereas older skilled folk are working longer. The divide is most extreme in America, wherewell-educated baby-boomers(二战后生育高峰期出生的美国人)areputting off retirement while many less-skilled younger people have abandoned policies that used Xto retire early.Rising life expectancy(预期生命),combined with the replace- Xpension plans with less generous defined-contribution ones, means that even the better-off must work longer to have a comfortable retirement. But the changing nature of work also plays a big role. Pay has risen sharply for the highly educated, and those people continue to reap rich rewards into old age because these days the educated elderly are more productivethat the preceding generation. Technological charge may well reinforce that shift; the skills that complement computers, from management knowhow to creativity, do not necessarilydecline with age.57.What is happening in the workforce in rich countriesA.Younger people are replacing the elderly.B.Well-educated people tend to work longer.C.Unemployment rates are rising year after year.D.People with no collage degree do not easily find work.【答案】B58.What has helped deepen the divide between the well-off and the poorA.Longer life expectancies.B.A rapid technological advance.C.Profound changes in the workforce.D.A growing number of the well-educated.【答案】B59.What do many observers predict in view of the experience of the experience of the 20th centuryA.Economic growth will slow down.ernment budgets will increase.C.More people will try to pursue higher education.D.There will be more competition in the job market.【答案】A60.What is the result of policy changes in European countriesA.Unskilled workers may choose to retire early.B.Morepeople have to receive in-service training.C.Even wealthy people must work longer to live comfortably in retirement.D.Peoplemay be able to enjoy generous defined-benefits from pension plans.【答案】C61.What is characteristic of work in the 21st centuryputers will do more complicated work.B.More will be the educated young.C.Most jobs to be done will be creative ones.D.Skills are highly valued regardless of age.【答案】DPassage TwoQuestions 62 to 65 are based on the following passage. Some of the world's most sign significant problems hit headlines. One example comes from agriculture. Food riots and hunger make news. But the trend lying behind these matters is rarely talked about. This is the decline in the growth inyields of some of the world's major crops. A new study by the University of Minnesota and McGill University in Montreal looks at where, and how far, this decline is occurring. The authors take a vast number of data points for the four most important crops: rice, wheat, corn and soyabeans(大豆). They find that on between 24% and 39% of all harvested areas, the improvement in yields that took place before the 1980s slowed down in the 1990s and 2000s.There are two worrying features of the slowdown. One is that it has been particularly sharp in the world's most populous(人口多的)countries, India and China. Their ability to feed themselves has been an important source of relative stability both within the countries and on world food markets. That self-sufficiency cannot be taken for granted if yields continue to slow down or reverse.Second, yield growth has been lower in wheat and rice than in corn and soyabeans. This is problematic because wheat and rice are more important as foods, accounting for around half of all calories consumed. Corn and soyabeans are more important as feed grains. The authors note that "we have preferentially focused our crop improvement efforts on feeding animals and cars rather than on crops that feed people and are the basis of food security in much of the world."The report qualifies the more optimistic findings of another new paper which suggests that the world will not have to dig upa lot more land for farming in order to feed 9 billion peoplein 2050, as the Food and Agriculture Organisation has argued. Instead, it says, thanks to slowing population growth, land currently ploughed up for crops might be able to revert(回返)to forest or wilderness. This could happen. The trouble is that the forecast assumes continued improvements in yields, which may not actually happen.62.What does the author try to draw attention toA.Food riots and hunger in the world.B.The decline of the grain yield growth.C.News headlines in the leading media.D.The food supply in populous countries.【答案】B63.Why does the author mention India and China inparticularA.Their self-sufficiency is vital to the stability of world food markets.B.Their food yields have begun to decrease sharply in recent years.C.Their big populations are causing worldwide concerns.D.Their food self-sufficiency has been taken for granted.【答案】A64.What does the new study by the two universities say about recent crop improvement effortsA.They fail to produce the same remarkable results as before the 1980s.B.They contribute a lot to the improvement of human food production.C.They play a major role in guaranteeing the food security of the world.D.they focus more on the increase of animal feed than human food grains.【答案】D65.What does the Food and Agriculture Organisation say about world food production in the coming decadesA.The growing population will greatly increase the pressure on world food supplies.B.The optimistic prediction about food production should be viewed with caution.C.The slowdown of the growth in yields of major food crops will be reversed.D.The world will be able to feed its population without increasing farmland.【答案】D66.How does the author view the argument of the Food and Agriculture OrganisationA.It is built on the findings of a new study.B.It is based on a doubtful assumption.C.It is backed by strong evidence.D.It is open to further discussion.【答案】B四级第一套Section CPassage OneQuestion 57 to 61 are based on the following passage. If you think a high-factor sunscreen(防晒霜)keeps you safe from harmful rays, you may be wrong. Research in this week's Nature shows that while factor 50 reduces the number of melanomas(黑瘤)and delays their occurrence, it can't prevent them. Melanomas are the most aggressive skin cancers. You have a higher risk if you have red or blond hair, fair skin, blue or green eyes, or sunburn easily, or if a close relative has had one. Melanomas are more common if you have periodic intense exposure to the sun. Other skin cancers are increasingly likely with long-term exposure. There is continuing debate as to how effective sunscreen isin reducing melanomas—the evidence is weaker than it is for preventing other types of skin cancer. A 2011 Australian study of 1,621 people found that people randomly selected to apply sunscreen daily had half the rate of melanomas of people who used cream as needed. A second study, comparing 1,167 people with melanomas to 1,101 who didn't have the cancer, found that using sunscreen routinely, alongside other protection such as hats, long sleeves or staying in the shade, did give some protection. This study said other forms of sun protection—not sunscreen—seemed most beneficial. The study relied on people remembering what they had done over each decade of their lives, so it's not entirely reliable. But it seems reasonable to think sunscreen gives people a false sense of security in the sun. Many people also don't use sunscreen properly-applying insufficient amounts, failing to reapply after a couple of hours and staying in the sun too long. It is sunburn that is most worrying-recent shows five episodes of sunburn in the teenage years increases the risk of all skin cancers. The good news is that a combination of sunscreen and covering up can reduce melanoma rates, as shown by Australian figures from their slip-slop-slap campaign. So if there is a heat wave this summer, it would be best for us, too, to slip ona shirt, slop on(抹上)sunscreen and slap on a hat.57.【题干】What is people's common expectation of a high-factor sunscreenA.It will delay the occurrence of skin cancer.B.It will protect them from sunburn.C.It will keep their skin smooth and fair.D.It will work for people of any skin color.【答案】B58.【题干】What does the research in Nature say about a high-factor sunscreenA.It is ineffective in preventing melanomas.B.It is ineffective in case of intense sunlight.C.It is ineffective with long-term exposure.D.It is ineffective for people with fair skin.【答案】C59.【题干】What do we learn from the 2011Australian study of 1,621 peopleA.Sunscreen should be applied alongside other protection measures.B.High-risk people benefit the most from the application of sunscreen.C.Irregular application of sunscreen does women more harmthan good.D.Daily application of sunscreen helps reduce the incidence of melanomas.【答案】D60.【题干】What does the author say about the second Australian studyA.It misleads people to rely on sunscreen for protection.B.It helps people to select the most effective sunscreen.C.It is not based on direct observation of the subjects.D.It confirms the results of the first Australian study.【答案】D61.【题干】What does the author suggest to reduce melanoma ratesing both covering up and sunscreen.B.Staying in the shade whenever possible.ing covering up instead of sunscreen.D.Applying the right amount of sunscreen.【答案】APassage TwoQuestions 62 to 65are based on the following passage.Across the rich world, well-educated people increasingly work longer than the less-skilled.

Answer the questions by marking the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet 2.Finding the Right Home—and Contentment,T oo[A] When your elderly relative needs to enter some sort of long-term care facility—a moment few parents or children approach without fear—what you would like is to have everything made clear.[B] Does assisted living really mark a great improvement over a nursing home, or has the industry simply hired better interior designers? Are nursing homes as bad as people fear, or is that an out-moded stereotype (固定看法)? Can doing one's homework really steer families to the best places? It is genuinely hard toknow.[C] I am about to make things more complicated by suggesting that what kind of facility an older person lives in may matter less than we have assumed. And that the characteristics adult children look for when they begin the search are not necessarily the things that make a difference to the people who are going to move in. I am not talking about the quality of care, let me hastily add. Nobody flourishes in a gloomy environment with irresponsible staff and a poor safety record. But an accumulating body of research indicates that some distinctions between one type of elder care and another have little real bearing on how well residents do.[D] The most recent of these studies, published in The Journal of Applied Gerontology, surveyed150 Connecticut residents of assisted living, nursing homes and smaller residential care homes(known in some states as board and care homes or adult care homes). Researchers from the University of Connecticut Health Center asked the residents a large number of questions about their quality of life, emotional well-being and social interaction, as well as about the quality of the facilities.[E] "We thought we would see differences based on the housing types," said the lead author of the study, Julie Robison, an associate professor of medicine at the university. A reasonable assumption— don't families struggle to avoid nursing homes and suffer real guilt if they can't?[F] In the initial results, assisted living residents did paint the most positive picture. They were less likely to report symptoms of depression than those in the other facilities, for instance, and less likely to be bored or lonely. They scored higher on social interaction.[G] But when the researchers plugged in a number of other variables, such differences disappeared. It is not the housing type, they found, that creates differences in residents' responses. "It is the characteristics of the specific environment they are in, combined with their own personal characteristics—how healthy they feel they are, their age and marital status," Dr. Robison explained. Whether residents felt involved in the decision to move and how long they had lived there also proved significant.[H] An elderly person who describes herself as in poor health, therefore, might be no less depressed in assisted living (even if her children preferred it) than in a nursing home. A person who had input into where he would move and has had time to adapt to it might do as well in a nursing home as in a small residential care home, other factors being equal. It is an interaction between the person and the place, not the sort of place in itself, that leads to better or worse experiences. "You can't just say, 'Let's put this person in a residential care home instead of a nursing home—she will be much better off,'" Dr. Robison said. What matters, sheadded, "is a combination of what people bring in with them, and what they find there."[I] Such findings, which run counter to common sense, have surfaced before. In a multi-state study of assisted living, for instance, University of North Carolina researchers found that a host of variables—the facility's type, size or age; whether a chain owned it; how attractive the neighborhood was—had no significant relationship to how the residents fared in terms of illness, mental decline, hospitalizations or mortality. What mattered most was the residents, physical health and mental status. What people were like when they came in had greater consequence than what happened once they were there.[J] As I was considering all this, a press release from a respected research firm crossed my desk, announcing that the five-star rating system that Medicare developed in 2008 to help families compare nursing home quality also has little relationship to how satisfied its residents or their family members are. As a matter of fact, consumers expressed higher satisfaction with the one-star facilities, the lowest rated, than with the five-star ones. (More on this study and the star ratings will appear in a subsequent post.)[K] Before we collectively tear our hair out—how are we supposed to find our way in a landscape this confusing?—here is a thought from Dr. Philip Sloane, a geriatrician (老年病学专家) at the University of North Carolina:"In a way, that could be liberating for families."[L] Of course, sons and daughters want to visit the facilities, talk to the administrators and residents and other families, and do everything possible to fulfill their duties. But perhaps they don't have to turn themselves into private investigators or Congressional subcommittees. "Families can look a bit more for where the residents are going to be happy," Dr. Sloane said. And involving the future resident in the process can be very important.[M] We all have our own ideas about what would bring our parents happiness. They have their ideas, too. A friend recently took her mother to visit an expensive assisted living/nursing home near my town. I have seen this place—it is elegant, inside and out. But nobody greeted the daughter and mother when they arrived, though the visit had been planned; nobody introduced them to the other residents. When they had lunch in the dining room, they sat alone at a table.[N] The daughter feared her mother would be ignored there, and so she decided to move her into a more welcoming facility. Based on what is emerging from some of this research, that might have been as rational a way as any to reach a decision.36. Many people feel guilty when they cannot find a place other than a nursing home for their parents.37. Though it helps for children to investigate care facilities, involving their parents in the decision-making process may prove very important.38. It is really difficult to tell if assisted living is better than a nursing home.39. How a resident feels depends on an interaction between themselves and the care facility they live in.40. The author thinks her friend made a rational decision in choosing a more hospitable place over an apparently elegant assisted living home.41. The system Medicare developed to rate nursing home quality is of little help to finding a satisfactory place.42. At first the researchers of the most recent study found residents in assisted living facilities gave higher scores on social interaction.43. What kind of care facility old people live in may be less important than we think.44. The findings of the latest research were similar to an earlier multi-state study of assisted living.45. A resident's satisfaction with a care facility has much to do with whether they had participated in the decision to move in and how long they had stayed there.Section CDirections: In this section, you will hear a passage three times. 用时________分钟错误题数_____ 个阅读理解第二套(A)It was a sunny winter day. I had gone down the tower when a blind man came toward me. He kept close to the wall, touching it lightly with his arm. I stood still and looked at him walking toward the tower.“What does a blind man want to climb up the tower for?” I wondered, “Not the view (景色) certainly, perhaps he wants to jump.” Thinking of this terrible reason, I thought I should follow him.He went up slowly and stopped from time to time. I followed him a few steps behind. When he got to the first corner of the bell tower, I came close to him. “Excuse me,” I said as politely as I could, “but I wonder why you came up.”“You’d never guess.” he sai d.“Not the view or the fresh air on this winter day?”“No.” he said.“Tell me, then.”He smiled, “Perhaps climbing up the tower. You have noticed —and yet, not being blind, perhaps you won’t — how the sun shines into the tower through the windows here and there, so that one can feel the cool steps suddenly become quite warm, even in winter. But behind the wall there is shade(阴影). There is no place so good as this for feeling the difference between light and darkness. Reading encourages you to think and imagine, think out of the box and imagine the impossible. In the past, people just read books, only books. Today, we have books online, which makes reading easy. The web, our new storehouse of information is just a click away. But this in no way has stolen the magic of reading books, the sound of their pages’ flutter (翻页) and their smell…You can lie in bed with a book, but with a computer you possibly can’t. No matter how you read, reading is important.Remember those bedtime stories? We read fun facts about animals, plants and the universe. We ask “whys” and “hows”. In books, we find their answers. Children who are introduced to reading at an early age are seen to have a better understanding of phonics (语音学). They master language skills easily, have a richer vocabulary and have greater reading abilities. Children, who grow up reading good books, mostly stand out. The way they think and act is very different from those who have never been introduced to reading. Reading not only adds to their knowledge but also shapes their personalities. Reading has a great influence on one’s life. Teenagers are easily influenced by whatever they read. If inspirational stories and life experiences are r ead in one’s teens, they can change a person for the better. They stay with him and keep encouraging him to achieve his goals and choose the right against the wrong. The more you read, the more creative and imaginative you will become. Reading develops vocabulary, improves language skills and sharpens your problem-solving abilities. It leads to a better understanding of self. What’s the best title for the passage?A. Why Is Reading Important?B. What Should Teenagers Read?C. How Is Reading Ability Improved?D. When Should Children Start Reading?(D)The Chinese are very generous when it comes to educating their children. Not caring about the money, parents often send their children to the best schools or even abroad to England, the United States, or Australia. They also want their children to take extra course activities when they will either learn a musical instruments, ballet, or other classes which will give them a head start in life. The Chinese believe that the more expensive an education is, the better it is. So parents will spend unreasonable amount of money on education. Even poor couples will buy a computer for their son or daughter. However, what most parents fail to see is that the best early education they can give their children is usually very cheap.Parents can see that children’s skills vary, skilled in some area, while poor in others. What most parents fail to realize though, is that today’s children lack sel f-respect and self-confidence.The problem is that parents are only educating their children on how to take tests and how to study well, but parents are not teaching them the most important skills they need to be confident, happy and clever.Parents can achieve this by teaching practical skills like cooking, sewing and doing other housework. Teaching a child to cook will improve many of the skills that he will need later in life. Cooking demands patience and time. It is an enjoyable but difficult experience. A good cook always tries to improve his cooking, so he will learn to work hard and gradually finish his job successfully. His result, a well-cooked dinner, will give him much satisfaction and a lot of self-confidence.Some old machines, such as a broken radio or a TV set that you give your child to play with will make him curious and arouse(激起)his interest. He will spend hours looking at them, trying toteaching a child to read a book , but rather to think, to use his mind. And that is more important.1.Parents in China, according to this passage,_______.A. are too strict with their childrenB. are too rich to educate their childrenC. have some problems in educating their children correctlyD. are too poor to educate their children2.Generally speaking, children’s skills____________.A. come from the parents B .have nothing to do with their educationC. may be differentD. have something to do with marks in the exams3.
