Be 动词的缩写
be动词(is, am, are) 在口语中常和前面的代词或名词构成缩写,否定词not 也常和前面的动词构成缩写形式。
例如:
I am = I’m you are = you’re they are = they’re we are = we’re
she is = she’s he is = he’s it is = it’s what is = what’s my name is = my name’s
It is not my book. = It isn’t my book. 这不是我的书。
There are not five books on the desk. = There aren’t five books on the desk. 书桌上没有5本书。
但有三种情况不能缩写:
1. am和not不能缩写。
如不能说No, I amn’t. 而应说成No, I’m not.
2. This is 不能缩写。
因为this’s的读音与this的读音易混,为了区别它们,所以不用缩写形式。
3. 一般疑问句的肯定答语不用缩写形式。
因为句末的be动词要重读,缩写之后就不能重读了。
例如:
—Are you Li Ming?
—Yes, I am. (不能用Yes, I’m.)
