They especially enjoy playing when their owners play the game with them.Just like a dog,a cat can be trained to perform tricks(诡计)or avoid unwanted behaviour.Cats do not have to be walked. They get plenty of exercise in the house as they play, and they do their business in their litter boxes. So their owners only need to spend time cleaning their litter boxes.Washing a cat is almost never necessary because cats usually clean themselves. In addition, cats can be left alone at home for a few hours without any worry.Unlike some pets, most cats willnot destroy the furniture when left alone. They just go about their usual activities until their owners return.Cats are polite members of a family.Unlike dogs, cats do not make lots of loud noise. They walk very quietly. Also, cats don't often have “accidents”.Mother cats train their babies to use the litter box,and most cats will use it from that time on.Cats keep their energy by sleeping more than most animals, especially as they grow older.(25)From the passage,we can learn that ______.A.cats would rather play with themselvesB.cats often play tricks on their ownersC.many people think dogs are man's best friendsD.cats sleep less than any other animal does(26)What can be concluded(推断) from the passage?A.Cats are very easy to be kept as house pets.B.Cats need more time to do exercise than dogs.C.Cats are afraid of being left alone at home.D.Cats don't like to clean themselves.(27)In the fourth paragraph,we can learn that cats are ______.A.playfulB.cuteC.politeD.noisy(28)Which of the following best describes the organization of the passage?A. D.3.(6分)Dolphins are not fish, but warmblooded animals. They live in groups, and speak to each other in their own language. In this way they are like other animals, such as bees and birds. But dolphins are very different from almost all land animals.Their brain is nearly the same size as our own,and they live a long time—at least twenty or thirty years.Like some other animals, dolphins use sound to help them find their way around. They also make these sounds to talk to each other and to help them find food.We now know they do not use their ears to receive these sounds, but the lower part of the mouth, called the jaw.Strangely, dolphins seem to like man,and for thousands of years there have been stories about the dolphin and its friendship with people. There is a story about sailors in the 19th century. In a dangerous part of the sea off the coast of New Zealand, they learnt to look for a dolphin called Jack. From 1871 to 1903 Jack met every boat in the area and showed it the way. Then in 1903 a passenger on a boat called the Penguin shot and wounded(伤害)Jack. He recovered and for nine years more continued to guide all ships through the area—except for the Penguin. Today, some people continue to kill dolphins, but many countries of the world now protect them and in these places it is against the law to kill them.(29)Dolphins are different from many other animals in that they ______.A.live in groupsB.have large brainsC.are warmbloodedD.have their own language(30)Why did the sailors off the coast of New Zealand look for Jack?A.He was lonely and liked to be with people.B.They enjoyed playing with him.C.He was seriously wounded.D.They wanted his help.(31)By telling the story of Jack the writer wanted to show that ______.A.dolphins are friendly and cleverB.people are cruel to animalsC.Jack is different from other dolphinsD.dolphins should be protected by law4.(8分)Without proper planning, tourism can cause problems. For example, too many tourists can crowd public places that are also enjoyed by the inhabitants of the country. If tourists create too much traffic, the inhabitants become annoyed and unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the country's economy. It is important to think about the people of a destination country and how tourism affects them.Tourism should help a country keep the customs and beauty that attract tourists.Tourism should also advance the wealth and happiness of local inhabitants.Too much tourism can be a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry. This means that other parts of the country's economy can suffer. On the other hand,if there is not enough tourism, people can losejobs.Businesses can also lose money. It costs a great deal of money to build large hotels, airports, firstclass roads, and other support facilities(配套设施)needed by tourist attractions. For example,a major international class tourism hotel can cost as much as 50 thousand dollars per room to build. If this room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel will lose money. Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many other support facilities as well, including roads to get to the hotel, electricity, sewers(下水道)to handle waste, and water. All of these support facilities cost money. If they are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost.(32)Which of the following do you think has been discussed in the part before this selection?A.It is extremely important to develop tourism.B.Building roads and hotels is important.C.Support facilities are highly necessary.D.Planning is of great importance to tourism.(33)The underlined word “inhabitants”(in Paragraph 1)probably means ______.A.citizensB.passengersC. populationD.tourists(34)Too much tourism can cause all these problems EXCEPT ______.A.a bad effect on other industriesB.a change of tourists' customsC.overcrowdedness of places of interestD.pressure on traffic(35)It can be inferred from the text that ______.A.the author doesn't like tourism developing so fastB.local people will benefit from tourist attractionC.other parts of a country's economy won't benefit from tourism muchD.we can't build too many support facilities三、阅读填空(共10分)5.(10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

On Sunday 29 April.C. On Tuesday 22 May.D. On Tuesday 29 May.BFor many years, school children in the US have been taken on “field trips” to cultural institutions such as museums of art. Educators arrange them in the belief that schools exist not only to teach economically useful skills, but also to produce civilized young people who appreciate the art and culture. While there are parents who will take their children to cultural places in their free time, there are plenty of other children who will never have this kind of opportunity unless schools offer it. So you could say that taking school students on field trips is a means of giving everyone equal access to their cultural heritage. However, the attitude towards field trips in recent years is changing, with the number of tours organized for school groups falling significantly in museums all around the country. The most obvious reason is the issue of finance. Because there are increasing demands on their funds, after all, computers and sports facilities aren’t cheap, schools are forced to make a difficult choice about how to spend the limited money they have. Faced with this dilemma, field trips are an obvious thing to cut since they are seen by many as too expensive.Additionally, the nature of these field days is also changing. Schools increasingly use trips to amusement parks or sporting events as a treat for students rather than an opportunity for cultural learning. This shift could have a basis in generational differences between teachers’ reasons for organizing days out of school. A recent survey conducted among 500 Arkansas teachers showed that older teachers were significantly more likely to take the primary purpose of a field trip as a learning experience than younger teachers, who view it as fun. Some evidence shows the trend of fewer trips may have a negative effect on children’s development. A research led by Jay Greene at Arkansas University found that students who received a tour of an art museum greatly improved their knowledge of and the ability to think critically about art. They also display stronger historical interest and were more likely to visit cultural places in the future. The researchers warm that if schools cut field trips or switch to lesseducational destinations, valuable opportunities to broaden and enrich children’s learning experiences are lost.4. What is the original purpose of field trips to cultural institutions?A. To teach students useful skills in economics.B. To encourage parents to take their children there.C To educate students to preserve cultural heritage.D. To make art culture accessible to every student.5. Which factor most probably leads to the trend of fewer field trips?A The decrease in school funds.B. The lack of school funds.C Students’ demand for fun.D. Teachers’ generational differences.6. What does the underlined phrase “This shift” in Paragraph 3 refer to?A. The switch from old generations to young generations.B. The switch from sporting events to cultural experiences.C. The change from an opportunity for learning to a treat for entertainment.D. The change from educational destinations to unique attractions.7. What can be inferred about field rips from the research by Jay Greene?A. Students are rewarded with more cultural awareness.B. Amusement parks enrich children’s learning experiences.C. Cutting field trips is critical to the future of the museum.D. Field trips ensure better future academic performance.CIf a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing poorly first. These are the words of Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm. Joel’s opinion is that we’ve all grown up with the expression “if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.” Personally, I grew up hearing it as “if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.” Yet, as Joel says, nobody does it right the first time. Joel explained that it’s this kind of thinking that prevents us from innovating(创新) in our own lives. We’re frightened to death to try new things, because we think we have to get it right the first time. This is an innovative farmer’s wisdom. It resonates(和……类似) well with what I’ve learned from master teachers as well as with research on perfectionism. Let me speak briefly of both of these.I have been fortunate to have a number of mentors(导师) in my development as a teacher. One of my favorites is a retired biology teacher from the University of British Columbia, Lee Gass. Lee explained to me that it’s not until we know that we don’t know, it’s not until we admit our ignorance, even celebrate our ignorance, that we can learn anything at all! When we learn to see that it is through admitting our ignorance and trying even though it won’t be perfect or even “right” the first time that we can learn anything, we really start living. Some of the research stresses the harm of not taking this attitude in our pursuit(追求). Perfectionism is often said to be the enemy of the good. It’s also the enemy of even trying.I for one take this farmer’s advice to heart. I do try my best to do things as well as I possibly can but I recognize that it’s the creative process where we learn, if we stay at it long enough. If a job is worth doing, it’ s worth doing poorly first.8. What is Joel’s opinion about a job that is worth doing?A. It is worth trying.B. It is worth doing well.C. It is worth doing right.D. It is worth completing.9. What do Joel and Lee have in common?A. Both of them are ignorant.B. Both of them do a poor job.C. Both of them love their jobs.D. Both of them value ignorance.10. What is the finding of some of the research according to the text?A. It’s impossible to be perfect.B. It’s harmful to change your goal.C. It’s dangerous to seek perfection.D. It’s easy to become the enemy of the good.11. What does the author stress in the last paragraph?A. The value of creation.B. The benefit of learning.C. The meaning of freedom.D. The importance of a process.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

得夺市安庆阳光实验学校高二上学期英语月考测试10月满分(150)第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AI was in a shopping mall recently, and I decided to go and get a cup of tea. As I was making my way to the coffee shop, I noticed an old gentleman rather poorly dressed sitting on a bench nearby. I knew from the first sight that he was in need of some kind of help. He had a little lunch in front of him and was wholeheartedly enjoying it.There was a young man in front of me in the line also waiting to be served. The young man handed the servant a twenty-dollar bill and asked for an orange juice as well as a favor. The servant looked at the young man with a little surprise, not fully understanding him. The young man asked her to give the juice to the old gentleman eating his lunch outside on the bench. The young man also told her that he would be watching every second so that she would be completely safe at all times. Later, there was a wonderful exchange (交换) between the waitress and the old man.I only wished I had taken a photo of the smiles on both of their faces. As I was thinking about this event later on, I wondered why the young man didn’t just perform this act of kindness himself. I thought he was hoping that this act of kindness might inspire others to do something for the old man as well. Thinking of the happy smiles on the old man’s face, I felt how worthwhile it is to help others.21. The underlined word “favor” in Para. 2 refers to .A. passing the young man a cup of orange juiceB. buying lunch for the old manC. giving the juice to the old manD. exchanging meals with the old man22. Which of the following can be used to describe the young man?A. Humorous and helpful.B. Generous and proud.C. Rich and friendly.D. Kind and considerate.23. In the author’s opinion, the young man asked the serva nt to take the juice to the old man so that .A. more people would be inspired to do good deedsB. he would become famous for his good deedC. the old man could probably accept itD. he would become a friend of the servantBThe Horn of Plenty is one of the largest natural health food stores within the Greater Hamilton area. We are big supporters of buying locally and we are here to tell you why it is so important for your family, the community and the environment. The concept (概念) of buying locally is simple: buy food produced, grown, or raised as close to your home as possible. Not only will your food be fresher and tastier, but you are helping protect the environment and are supporting businesses within your community and reducing pollution.Better for the environmentSustainability (持续性) and global warming are such hot topics at the moment, and many people want to do their bit to help support a healthier environment. Small action carried out by many people can make a big difference. Most materials in an average North American meal have traveled about 1,500 miles to get from farm to plate. To cut out a big part of this travel would greatly reduce not only pollution from transportation and refrigeration but also customers’ expenses as well.Taste and nutritional contentLocally-grown fruits and vegetables are usually sold within 24 hours of being harvested. Because they are picked at the height of ripeness (成熟) and travel only a short distance to the market, their freshness, nutrition, and flavor are kept. Produce trucked in from far away may lose both taste and nutritional content.Community and home valuesWhen you buy direct from a farmer or buy locally-grown foods, you are engaging in a time-honored tradition between a grower and an eater. You also help keep dollars within your community.24. It can be inferred from the third paragraph that .A. global warming is the most serious problem nowB. the increased cost of transporting food is passed on to the customersC. North American food is rich in various kinds of materialsD. most people support buying locally25. Locally-grown fruits and vegetables taste good mostlybecause .A. they are sent to the market at a high speedB. they are not polluted by chemical fertilizerC. they can be harvested at any timeD. they are picked when they are fully grown26. According to the author, when you buy locally-grown foods .A. you can see how fruits and vegetables growB. you will become much healthier and prettierC. you will contribute to protecting the environmentD. you are making money from your community27. What does the passage mainly talk about?A. The benefits of buying locally.B. The popularity of the Horn of Plenty.C. The importance of protecting the environment.D. The way to keep your food tasty and healthy.CPeople often say that money talks. They mean that a person with a lot of money can say how he or she wants things done. But it is not easy to earn enough money to gain this kind of power.Sometimes people in business feel businesses are as dangerous as wild animals in a jungle. They have to be careful if they are to survive the jungle out there. They must not be led into making bogus investments (). Bogus means something that is not real. It was said that the word came from a criminal (罪犯) whose name was Borghese. Borghese wrote checks to people although he didn’t have money. After he wrote the checks, he would disappear. So, people who were paid with his checks received nothing.People trying to earn money also must be aware of being ripped off.A person who is ripped off has had something stolen, or at least has been treated unfairly. To keep from getting ripped off in business, people had better try to earn money step by step instead of getting rich quickly. To be successful, a person in business works hard and tries to get down to brass tacks. For example, a salesman may talk about his product without saying the price. You get down to brass tacks when you say, “It sounds good, but how mu ch does it cost?” Word experts thought the expression came from sailors on ships. They cleaned the bottom of a boat. After they finished, they were down to the brass tacks, the copper pieces that held the boat together. So, if we get down to brass tacks, we can avoid rip-offs and bogus ways of earning money.28. What would happen to those people who make bogus investments?A. They would lose a lot of money.B. They would disappear after that.C. They would receive nothing but checks.D. They were more likely to be punished by law.29. The best way to avoid being ripped off in business is to .A. work as hard as possibleB. ask for checks in advanceC. avoid becoming wealthy eagerlyD. earn as more money as you can30. When doing business, people prefer to get down to brass tacksto .A. keep themselves from being fooledB. develop more ways of earning moneyC. reduce their production costsD. get in touch with more partners31. In which part of a newspaper can we find this passage?A. News and business.B. The history of language.C. Words and their stories.D. Funny new expressions. DMore often than not, people will look at the phone screen to check for new messages or have a quick look at Facebook. Researchers have now found why we often feel such a strong need to look at our phones. Using the mobile phone, they say, is contagious (蔓延的).A team says people are twice as likely to pull out their phones to check their text messages or e-mails if they’re with someone that has just done the same. They also found that women were more likely to use their mobile phones than men. The team watched students in dining halls and coffee shops around the college, observing pairs of college students sitting at tables for as long as 20 minutes and recording their cellphone use. “What we found most interesting was just how often people were using their mobile phones,” Dr. Daniel Kruger, the study’s co-author, said. “Every person we studied used his or her phone at least once while one woman was on hers about half of the time. People saw others checking their incoming messages and began to check their own.”“Cellphones create another choice for one’s attention and may both support and disagre e with live social activities,” the researchers wrote. Kruger believed this could be explained by the effects of social inclusion (包含) and exclusion (排除). If one person in a pair starts a conversation through his phone, the other one may feel excluded and then feel the need to get in touch with others so as not to feel left out.The researchers note that they might not get the same result in a study of different people—for example, older adults, who may not havea habit of using cellphones so often.32. From the study we can learn that .A. people can affect each other in using mobile phonesB. using mobile phones has nothing to do with social activitiesC. men are more likely to be affected by others’ using mobile phonesD. the sound of mobile phones makes using mobile phones contagious33. If old adults are studied, the researchers .A. will find that old adults don’t like to use mobile phonesB. will find that mobile phones are harmful to healthC. will no longer like using mobile phonesD. may reach a different result34. Which can best describe the author’s attitude towards using mobile phones?A. Supportive.B. Objective.C. Indifferent.D. Opposed.35. Which can be the best title for the passage?A. How to use mobile phones correctlyB. Why college students like mobile phonesC. Relation between mobile phones and people’s hobbiesD. It is the first US city to take such a strong step to keep this technology under control. When a computer system identifies a person from their face in a picture, it’s called “facial recognition” (面部识别). Many police departments use facial recognition. It can be helpful when the police just have a picture of a suspect (嫌疑犯),but no other information. Normally, even with facial recognition the police must have other proof showing that a person is guilty. But many people say facial recognition programs aren’t good enough yet. The programs can usually recognize white men. But they’re not so good at identifying women and people with darker skin. They worry that “false matches” --- when the computer thinks it has identified a person, but it’s wrong --- will make innocent (无罪的) people look like criminals. For companies like Amazon and Microsoft, facial recognition is a big business. Amazon has worked hard to sell their facial recognition to police departments around the US. Microsoft sells tools that allow prisons to watch people inside. To work well, facial recognition programs must have a great number of pictures of people. But most people whose pictures are in the systems never gave permission (许可) for their pictures to be used. Many people worry that using computers to identify or track people will decrease freedom. Now, in many places, facial recognition is used to keep people under control and much of public life is watched on security cameras. Similarly, many cities in America and Europe are also almost completely covered by security cameras. Police officers now often wear cameras on their bodies, recording all the time. It’s usually not clear when governments are using facial recognition and how they are using it.Facial recognition is already being used at airports throughout Europe and in the US. The Department of Homeland Security expects to have picture of 97% of the people flying out of the country in the next four years. As these powerful computer programs become more common, San Francisco’s move to control facial recognition is an unusual and strong move to limit the way governments use computers to watch and control people.28.Why do people worry about facial recognition programs?A.They cannot multiply people’s responsibility.B.They cannot help the police identify good people.C.They will mistake innocent people for bad people.D.They will identify black people instead of white people.29.How can facial recognition programs function effectively?panies should work with each other.B.People should have more pictures taken.C.They should include as many pictures as possible.D.Police departments and prisons should be under control.30.What make people feel their freedom is on the decrease?A.There are the police everywhere.B. A.Strong B.Lovely C.Smart D.Active三、阅读七选五(本题共计1小题,总分10分)6.(10分)How to manage your email inbox36 .We love it and we hate it. We need it and want it, but too often the price we pay is that. ABrian Greene, a professor of physics and mathematics at Columbia University, has created an online science education platform. He tries to “build a bridge” with things you know about, and then “bring you across that bridge to the strange place of modern physics”.Recently I had a chance to ask Greene about wormholes (a hole which some scientists think might exist, connecting parts of space and time that are not usually connected), time travel and other mysteries of the universe. I asked him a milliondollar question: What if I went through a wormhole and prevented my parents from meeting? “Most of us bel ieve that the universe makes sense,” Greene said. Although there are several interesting theories about time travel, he added, the laws of physics would probably prevent something so illogical from taking place. The good news is that the time paradox (悖论) is open for future physicists to solve. When asked how physics could become more exciting for kids, Greene said that books by Stephen Weinberg, Leonard Susskind, and other physicists, “make it a great time for people who want to learn about big ideas but aren’t yet ready, perhaps, to learn math.”When I pointed out that some students still might find physics boring, Greene said that the key is to teach them about things that are strange. “The basic stuff is important,” Greene said. “But I think it’s really important to also describe the more modern ideas, things like black holes and the Big Bang. If kids have those ideas in mind, then at least some of them will be excited to learn all the details.”Greene has followed Albert Einstein’s lead in trying to solve the mysteries of the universe. Now he wants kids to do the same. As Greene said, physics is “not just a matter of solving problems in an exam”. It’s about experimenting, showing an interest in strange phenomena (现象) — and having fun!21.A milliondollar question is probably very ________.A.direct B.longC.personal D.difficult22.The books by Weinberg and Susskind ________.A.are popular science booksB.are mainly about mathC.are boring to readD.are only popular among kids23.According to Paragraph 4, which of the following does Greene agree with?A.Modern physics is a boring subject.B.It is not necessary to learn all about physics.C.Interest plays an important role in studying.D.It is easy to describe black holes and the Big Bang.24.In the last paragraph, Greene hopes that ________.A.kids can find more strange things in lifeB.kids can do well in physics examsC.kids can have fun with experimentsD.kids can love science and physicsBPeter Huszcz once taught in an agricultural college. In the 1990s, he moved to Canada. Peter started out washing dishes in a restaurant in downtown Ottawa. When the manager asked him to help out rolling meatballs in the kitchen, he soon learned how to do the job very well. But it was boring and Peter suggest ed that the manager should buy a meatballmaking machine. When the manager told him there was no such thing as a meatball maker, Peter was quick to notice that something was missing in the market. Putting his engineering knowledge to good use, he quickly came up with a simple method — the Magic Meatball Maker. He was sure there was a market for his machine, but it took him ten years of hard work to find it. He had to take risks, but he believed in his idea, and he managed to persuade other people to believe in him too. A local manufacturer (制造商) offered to produce the first 1,000 units in return for a share in the profits (收益), local shops offered to keep his meatball makers and a friend’s daughter helped him out with his first sales. But his lucky break came when he managed to persuade a TV shopping channel (频道) to help sell the Magic Meatball Maker. The channel broadcast a program about how the invention worked in the studio kitchen. Within minutes, they had sold more than 4,000 units. This was just the start. Peter had been right. He had said his meatball maker would bring him great wealth, and it has: more than two million dollars so far and it’s till selling to thousands of American housewives all across the USA.25.Working in the restaurant, Peter ________.A.was chosen to be the managerB.broke a meatballmaking machineC.found a chance to make moneyD.was poor at making meatballs by hand26.Which of the following helped Peter’s business take off?A.A local shop.B.A friend’s daughter.C.A TV shopping channel.D.A local manufacturer.27.What’s the right order to describe Peter’s life?A.Dish washer→teacher→inventor→businessmanB..Teacher→dish washer→inventor→businessman.C.Businessman→dish washer→inventor→teacher.D.Inventor→businessman→dish washer→teacher.28.What can we learn from the story?A.Where there is a will, there is a way.B.A friend in need is a friend indeed.C.Better late than never.D.In time of danger, one’s mind works fast.COil and gas have made Qatar (卡塔尔) the richest country in the world — rich enough to be ready to spend D|S200 billion for the 2022 World Cup.But has limitless wealth brought the country happiness?“We have become urban,”says Dr Kaltham Al Ghanim, a professor at Qatar University. “Our social and economic life has changed — families have become separated; consumption culture has taken over.”From desperate poverty less than a century ago, this, after all, has become the richest nation in the world. What’s less well understood is the influence of such rapid change on Qatari society itself. You can feel the pressure in Doha, the capital city of Qatar. The city is a building site, with whole districts either under construction or being destroyed for redevelopment. The local media report that 40% of Qatari marriages now end in divorce. More than twothirds of Qataris, adults and children, are overweight.Qataris benefit from free education, free healthcare, job guarantees, even free water and electricity, but abundance has created its own problems. “It’s confusing for graduates to be faced with 20 job offers,” one academic at an American university campus in Qatarsays. “People feel huge pressure to make the right decision.”In a society where Qataris are outnumbered roughly seventoone by foreigners, longterm residents (居民) speak of a growing frustration among graduates that the most satisfying jobs go to foreigners. The sense is deepening that, in the rush for development, something important has been lost. Qatari family life is atomising. With children almost universally being raised by nannies (保姆) from the Philippines, Nepal or Indonesia, differences in culture and opinions are widening between the generations. The 2022 football World Cup will be held in Qatar. Mariam Dahrouj, a journalism graduate, speaks of a sense of threat. “People in Qatar are afraid,” she says. “Suddenly all the world wants to see us. We are a closed community, and they want to come and bring their differences. How can we express our values?”29.What can we learn about Qatar?A.Its capital is neat and modern.B.Great wealth brings Qataris great happiness.C.Most Qataris are rich and healthy.D.It’s experiencing great changes.30.What’s young graduates’ problem in Qatar?A.They have difficulty in making a choice.B.They can hardly find an interesting job.C.They have to work with foreigners.D.They have become lazy because of abundance.31.The underlined word “atomising” in Paragraph 6 probably means ________.A.losing meaning B.becoming dividedC.being improved D.gaining support32.Facing the outside world, Qataris ________.A.ignore the differences B.express no interestC.feel frightened D.want to adjust their valuesDSir John Gurdon, a British scientist, who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicinesaid he had predicted at the time of his frog experiments in 2012, successful cloning of a mammal would happen within 50 years, that the “maybe the same answer is appropriate” for the step to and that cloning. Parents who lose children in accidents may be able humanto clone “copies” to replace them then.Although any attempt to clone an entire human would raise complex moral issues, the biologist claimed people would soon overcome their concerns if the technique became medically useful. Cloning was regarded with extreme doubts when it was first developed but became widely accepted after the birth of Louise Brown, the first “testtube baby”. He said, “When my first frog experiments were done, an American reporter asked how long it would be before these things could be done in mammals or humans. I said, ’Well, it could be anytime between 10 years and 100 years — how about 50 years?’ It turned out that it wasn’t far off the mark as far as Dolly was concerned. Maybe the same answer is appropriate.” Sir John added that cloning a human being effectively means making antwin, and doctors wouldidenticaltherefore simply be “copying what nature has already produced”.The average vote on allowing parents of deceased children, who are no longer fertile (能生育的), to create another by using the mother’s eggs and skin cells from the first child, thinking the technique was safe and effective, is 60 percent in favor. The reasons for “no” are usually that the new children would feel they are some sort of replacements for something.33.Sir John predicted the human cloning would be a reality in ________ at most.B.about 50 yearsA.about 100 yearsD.about 10 yearsC.about 60 years34.According to the text, which statement is NOT true?A.Human cloning is creating something that didn’t exist before.B.Human cloning is still a controversial topic.C.Sir John is positive about the future of human cloning.D.Louise Brown is the first “testtube baby”.35.It can be inferred from the passage that ________.A.most people cast doubt on John’s experimentsB.human cloning is and will be only a dreamC.human cloning may be realized somedayD.few children love to be cloned in the future第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
