专题限时训练(二十) [社会生活型阅读理解(一)] (限时:25分钟)AI've spent over a year in India, and in those 365 plus days, I've learned a lot about getting around Indian cities. My biggest lessons have been learned through being cheated, particularly by taxi and rickshaw (人力车) drivers, but that doesn't mean those are bad ways to travel, as long as you know what you're doing. Below are the best ways to get around the city of Delhi, India, and tips for how to keep from being the victim of scams (欺诈).Taking taxis is a great way to get around the city of Delhi and chances are, if you arrive in Delhi by plane, as soon as you make it through customs, you'll be swarmed by Indian taxi drivers. At the Delhi airport, be sure to arrange for a taxi to your hotel at one of the two Delhi Traffic Police Taxi Booths. One is inside the airport, and the other is outside. The key is to make sure to go to a booth run by the police, rather than by independent taxi drivers.Rickshaws are one of my favourite ways to get around Indian cities, in part because it's how the locals often travel. Autorickshaws are more common, but bicycle rickshaws are still used in Old Delhi. If you do have a chance to take a bicycle rickshaw, you should do it at least once for a unique experience that should only set you back about 15 rupees. Autorickshaw rates around Delhi range between 30 and 80 rupees, depending on the distance. If you really want to travel around Delhi like the locals, take a public bus. Indian buses become very crowded and most do not have air conditioning. They are, however, very cheap. A bus trip won't set you back any more than 15 rupees, as long as you stay within the city limits. Since Indian buses get so crowded, try to board the bus at the start of the route so you can get a seat. The train is a great way to get around within the city of Delhi. Fares are reasonable, between 6 and 22 rupees. All departure announcements are in both Hindi and English, and tokens can be purchased for between 6 and 22 rupees.1. The author is trying to ________ in Delhi through this text.A.give some advice of travellingB.expect us to travel aroundC.show his/her experiencesD.explain the difficulties of travelling2. To avoid being cheated, you ought to ________ if you want to take a taxi at the Delhi airport.A.pay more to the drivers to keep safeB.show your ticket to the driverC.go to a policerun boothD.go out of the airport3. The author suggests taking a rickshaw in order to ________.A.save some moneyB.enjoy the comfortable tripC.gain a unique experienceD.help the local rickshaw drivers4. What can we infer from the passage?A.You won't have to pay much if you travel around by bus in India.B.It will be difficult for you to get a seat if you get on the bus halfway.C.A rickshaw driver only charges whatever amount you give him.D.You'll have to speak English if you travel around in India.5. Which may be the topic that follows?A.Hotel recommendations in DelhiB.Weather conditions in DelhiC.Food and drink in DelhiD.Car rentals in DelhiBLife is to be enjoyed. There's no point in giving up something you enjoy unless you get something back that's even better. When people eat more healthfully, exercise, quit smoking, and manage stress better, they find that they feel so much better that it reconstructs the reason for making these changes from fear of dying to joy of living. The latest studies show that when you exercise and eat right:YOUR BRAIN receives more blood flow and oxygen, so you become smarter, think more clearly, have more energy, and need less sleep. Two studies showed that just walking for three hours per week for only three months caused so many new neurons (神经细胞) to grow that it actually increased the size of people's brains!YOUR FACE receives more blood flow, so your_skin_glows more and wrinkles less. You look younger and more attractive. In contrast, an unhealthy diet, chronic emotional stress and smoking reduce blood flow to your face so you age more quickly. Smoking accelerates aging because nicotine causes your arteries (动脉) to narrow down, which decreases blood flow to your face and makes it wrinkle earlier. This is why smokers look years older than they really are.YOUR GENES change. In May, a study was published in the proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences showing that changing your lifestyle changes your genes.YOUR TELOMERES (染色体端粒) get longer. Telomeres are the ends of our chromosomes (染色体) that control how long we live. As telomeres become shorter, then cells age more quickly, thus shortening your life.Besides, one of the most interesting findings in the study was that the mothers' awareness of stress was more important than what was really occurring in their lives. The researchers gave the women a questionnaire and asked them to rate on a threepoint scale how stressed they felt each day, and how out of control their lives felt to them. The women who were aware that they were under heavy stress had significantly shortened and damaged telomeres compared with those who felt more relaxed. On the contrary, some of the women who felt relaxed despite raising a disabled child had more normalappearing telomeres. In other words, if you feel stressed, you are stressed; if you feel fine, youare fine.1. Which of the following are good for lengthening one's life, according to the passage?① eat healthy food ② drink plenty of water③ take exercise ④ get up early⑤ go to sleep early ⑥ release one's stressA.①③⑥ B.①②③C.①⑤⑥ D.③④⑥2. The underlined words “your skin glows” in Paragraph 3 are closest in meaning to “________”.A.your skin becomes white as there is plenty of sunshineB.your skin becomes smooth as there is much blood in itC.your skin looks pink as you are healthyD.your skin becomes soft as you exercise enough3. In the author's opinion, when you exercise and eat right, you will experience some changes EXCEPT ________.A.brains becoming clevererB.faces having fewer wrinklesC.arteries turning narrowerD.genes being changed4. From the last but one paragraph we learn that ________.A.mothers will have more damaged telomeres if they raise a disabled child B.mothers don't know how to handle stress effectivelyC.some women were asked to fill out a questionnaire about educating children D.mothers' positive attitudes are the key to managing their stress5. The best title for the passage would be “________”.A.Eat better, live betterB.Feel better, live longerC.Less stress, fewer diseasesD.Smoke more, age soonerCBig Brothers Big Sisters is based on the simplicity and power of friendship. 专题限时训练(二十一) [社会生活型阅读理解(二)] (限时:25分钟)AIncreased use of the Internet and mobile phones is undermining pupils' capacity for independent study and promoting poor grammar.Cranfield School of Management found almost 6 in 10 schoolchildren were copying information directly from websites for homework tasks without properly reading it.More than a quarter thought it was an acceptable practice, even though they know it was considered plagiarism (剽窃).The study, based on a sample of around 260 pupils aged from 11 to 18 at a secondary school in the Midlands, raised fresh concerns that modern technology was having a destructive effect on young people.Andrew Kakabadse, Professor of International Management Development at Cranfield, said, “Our research shows that tec hnology obsession prevents spelling skills, encourages plagiarism, and disturbs classroom learning.“Despite school policies restricting mobile phone usage, students use the phone frequently, with the majority making calls from the toilets. The mobile phone continues to be a main channel of social communication during the school day.〞The report revealed that socalled “textspeak〞 was increasingly finding it was into pupils' school work.3 in 10 students admit to using text mess age shortcuts, such as “r u ok〞 in essays and classroom tasks. It followed a study earlier this year that found almost half of teachers failed to understand some pupils' writing because it was so full of confusing language. Phrases such as “innit〞 and “Gr8〞 were regularly found in school work. The Cranfield study found that mobile use was so common that many pupils chose to ignore school rules on phones.More than a third said they would use their phones in class, while nearly three quarters said they would not even make an excuse to leave class to answer a phone call.1. The underlined word “undermining〞 in the first paragraph can best be replaced by “________〞.A.determiningB.keepingC.weakeningD.increasing2. It can be inferred from what Kakabadse said that ________.A.he is in favour of students' mobile phone usage at schoolB.he believes schools are responsible for technology obsessionC.the research finds a new way to improve school managementD.it is hard to limit students' mobile phone usage at school3. What can we learn from the passage?A.Most students' writing skills are becoming worse.B.Text message language may affect pupils' language skills.C.Students like to invent new words in their writing.D.30% of pupils often send text messages when studying.4. The passage is mainly about ________.A.the negative effect of technology on students' studyB.technology's positive influence on students' achievementC.the importance of online social communicationD.the rapidly growing role of communication technologies5. What's the attitude of the author to the problem?A.Optimistic.B.Approving.C.Anxious.D.Tolerant.BAn “apple polisher〞 is one who gives gifts to win friendship or special treatment. It is not exactly a bribe(贿赂), but is close to it.All sorts of people are “apple polishers〞, including politicians and people in high offices—just about everybody. Oliver Cromwell, the great English leader, offered many gifts to win the support of George Fox and his party, but failed. There are other phrases meaning the same thing as “applepolishing〞—“s oftsoaping〞or “butteringup〞. A gift is just one way to “softsoap〞somebody, or to “butter him up〞. Another that is just as effective is flattery, giving someone high praise—telling him how good he looks, or how well he speaks, or how talented and wise he is.Endless are the ways of flattery. Who does not love to hear it? Only an unusual man can resist the thrill of being told how wonderful he is. In truth, flattery is good medicine for most of us, who get so little of it.We need it to be more sure of ourselves. It cannot hurt unless we get carried away by it. But if we just lap it up for its good value and nourishment, as a cat laps up milk, then we can still remain true to ourselves.Sometimes, however, flattery will get you nothing from one who has had too much of it. A good example is the famous 12th century legend of King Canute of Denmark and England. The king got tired of listening to endless sickening flattery of his courtiers(朝臣). They overpraised him to the skies, as a man of limitless power. He decided to teach them a lesson. He took them to the seashore and sat down. Then he ordered the waves to stop coming in. The tide was too busy to listen to him. The king was satisfied. This might show his followers how weak his power was and how empty their flattery was.1. Which of the following activities has nothing to do with “applepolishing〞?A.A boy tells his girlfriend how pretty she looks.B.An employee tells her boss how good he is at management.C.A knight is said to be of limitless power by his followers.D.A teacher praises her students for their talent and wisdom.2. What does the writer want to prove with Cromwell's example?A.Everybody can be an “applepolisher〞.B.Cromwell was not a good “applepolisher〞.C.George Fox and his party were not “applepolishers〞.D.There are people who don't like being “applepolished〞.3. Which of the following statements about flattery is TRUE according to the author?A.Too much flattery can carry us away.B.Flattery is too empty to do people any good.C.Flattery can get you nothing but excessive(过度的) pride.D.Flattery is one of the ways to applepolish people.4. Why did King Canute of Denmark and England take his followers to the seashore?A.Because he was sick of his normal life.B.Because he disliked being overpraised any more.C.Because he wanted them to realize how wise he was.D.Because he wanted them to see how weak he was as a king.5. Who does the author think that flattery can do good to?A.Those who are politicians or in high offices.B.Those who lack confidence.C.Those who are really excellent.D.Those who think highly of themselves.COver 70 per cent of the “dou ble singlechild couples〞 in China need help from their parents in taking care of their own kids, according to a recent survey.WomenofChina magazine and a consulting company carried out a survey recently on young couples of the “singlechild〞 generation, the MorningPost reports. Also, 30 per cent of the couples were schoolmates, while 43.8 per cent were introduced by someone.Since their marriage is based on enduring relationships, 65.2 per cent of the husbands and 62.9 per cent of the wives think that compromise(妥协)and tolerance(宽容) are necessary in their marriage. 安徽省高考英语二轮小专题复习 落实应用之阅读与理解12
安徽省2015年高考英语二轮小专题复习落实应用之阅读与理解12 Active listening is the art of listening to feelings, then reflecting them back.Active listening does not require that you agree with your child's feelings, but it allows your child to feel connected and understood and provides an opportunity to explore those mysterious impulses(冲动)known as emotions.Fouryearold Chrissy ran through the front door, slamming(砰地关上)it so forcefully that the pictures fell off the wall.“I hate Tammy!”she cried. Then Chrissy threw herself onto the sofa in a storm of sobs. Her mom,Diane, looked up from the bills she was going to pay.Resisting the impulse to scold(责骂)Chrissy for slamming the door, she asked quietly,“What's the matter with you,Chrissy?”Chrissy said sadly,“Tammy took my ball! Tammy is bi gger than me.It isn't fair for her to take away my ball.”“It must be pretty frustrating to be picked on by a big girl,”Diane said.“Yeah.I'm mad,”the little girl said firmly.“I don't want to play with her anymore.”She sat quietly for a moment, watching as Diane put stamps on envelopes. After a while,Chrissy said,“Mom,can I go to play out in the backyard?”Diane gave her daughter a hug.Chrissy left, seeming to forget her anger.By simply reflecting back her daughter's underlying feelings,Diane allowed Chrissy the opportunity to explore what was going on for her,and in the process,Chrissy discovered a solution to her own problem. Some other time,Diane might be able to talk with Chrissy about avoiding future problems and perhaps ask her what she could do to express her anger instead of slamming the door.Like most adults, sometimes what children really need is for someone to listen and understand.Active listening opens the door for real connection and problem solving and works toward building a lifelong relationship of love and trust.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?A.Active Listening Does Count!B.Children Need to Be Understood!C.It Is Wrong for Children to Express AngerD.Listening Helps Understand What Children Think答案 A [标题概括题。

In the book, Ronson takes readers into the fascinating world of psychopaths by speaking to the experts and having amusing conversations with the psychopaths themselves.2.This book is about a deeply funny story, as well as a deeply sad story—the great Nineties moment when a bunch of punk rock bands from Seattle accidentally blew up into the world's biggest noise. The author gives the unique chronicle (编年史) of how it all happened, and how it ended too soon. The book also makes readers appreciate how strange it was.3.This is just one of the terrifying everyday tales of the body trade documented. It started out extremely well, with some fascinating stories about the trade in human body parts. It covers many different aspects of the “red market”, ranging from skeletons to blood, and even the giant business of collecting and selling human hair.4.It's been reported that the author has often attracted as much attention as his cars. The book is partly a biography covering a very short portion of the author's own life—his second stint (任期) at General Motor(GM)—which recently ended after about a decade. However, it's more than a biography. It is also a view on what went wrong with the US car industry and US industry in general.5.This is a great book for anyone who has an interest in science, or wants to see advances in medicine at greater rates that we've seen them so far. If a reader has teenagers with interests in science, he should have them read this book. It will inspire them to broaden their horizons beyond the typical research lab.B阅读下列应用文及相关信息,并按照要求匹配信息。
