白雪公主的故事写一篇简短的作文用英语写全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Here's a short story about Snow White in English, written in a child's voice with around 2000 words:Snow WhiteHi there! My name is Emma, and I'm going to tell you the story of Snow White. It's one of my favorite fairy tales ever!Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful princess named Snow White. She had skin as white as snow, lips as red as roses, and hair as black as ebony. Her mother died when she was very young, and her father married another woman who became her stepmother. The new queen was very beautiful, but she was also very vain and jealous. She had a magic mirror that could talk, and every day she would ask it, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" The mirror would always reply, "You are, my queen, the fairest in the land."But as Snow White grew older, she became even more beautiful than her stepmother. One day, when the queen asked her mirror the usual question, it replied, "My queen, you are fair, it's true, but Snow White is a thousand times fairer than you!"The wicked queen was furious! She became consumed with jealousy and ordered her huntsman to take Snow White into the forest and kill her. The poor man took Snow White deep into the woods, but when he raised his knife to kill her, she begged for her life. He just couldn't do it. Instead, he told her to run away and never return to the castle.Lost and alone in the forest, Snow White wandered until she came upon a tiny cottage. She went inside and found seven little chairs, seven little plates, and seven little beds. Everything was so small! She was tired, so she curled up in one of the beds and fell asleep. The cottage belonged to seven dwarfs who worked in a diamond mine all day. When they came home that night, they found Snow White sleeping. At first, they were surprised, but soon they realized she meant no harm. They let her stay with them in exchange for keeping the cottage clean and cooking their meals.Meanwhile, the wicked queen asked her mirror again, "Who's the fairest of them all?" And the mirror replied, "You are the fairest here, my queen, but over the seven hills, where the seven dwarfs dwell, Snow White is still alive and well."The queen was furious that the huntsman had disobeyed her. She decided to get rid of Snow White herself. She disguised herself as an old peddler woman and went to the cottage, carrying a poisoned apple. When Snow White answered the door, the queen offered her the beautiful apple as a gift. Not suspecting any danger, Snow White took a big bite.As soon as the poison touched her lips, she fell to the ground unconscious. The dwarfs rushed home and tried everything to revive her, but it was no use. They couldn't bear to bury her, so they made a glass coffin and kept watch over her day and night. One day, a handsome prince was riding through the forest and came upon the glass coffin. He was so struck by Snow White's beauty that he begged the dwarfs to let him take her away. As his servants lifted the coffin to put it on their shoulders, they stumbled and jolted the coffin, dislodging the poisoned apple from Snow White's throat. She opened her eyes, alive and well! The prince was overjoyed and asked Snow White to marry him. They had a wonderful wedding, and Snow White's stepmother was never heard from again. The prince and Snow White lived happily ever after in his castle. And that's the story of Snow White! I love happy endings, don't you? It's such a classic fairy tale with a kind-hearted princess, dwarfs, a wicked witch, and true love conquering all. I hope you enjoyed my retelling of this beloved story!篇2Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there lived a beautiful princess named Snow White. She had skin as white as snow, lips as red as roses, and hair as black as ebony. Snow White's mother, the queen, had died when she was just a baby, and her father, the king, had remarried a very vain and wicked woman. The new queen was terribly jealous of Snow White's beauty. Every day, she would look into her magic mirror and ask, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" And the mirror would always reply, "You are the fairest, my queen." But one day, when Snow White turned seven years old, the mirror said, "Snow White is the fairest of them all."The wicked queen was furious! She ordered her huntsman to take Snow White into the forest and kill her. But when the huntsman raised his knife to strike, Snow White begged for her life, and he couldn't bring himself to harm her. Instead, he told her to run away and never return to the castle.Poor Snow White was all alone in the dark, scary forest. She wandered for hours until she stumbled upon a tiny cottage. She went inside and found seven little beds, seven little chairs, and seven little plates on the table. Everything was so small! Snow White was exhausted, so she curled up in one of the little beds and fell fast asleep. When the seven dwarfs, who lived in the cottage, came home from working in the diamond mines, they were surprised to find a little girl asleep in one of their beds. "Who are you, and what are you doing here?" they asked when Snow White woke up. She explained her story, and the kind-hearted dwarfs agreed to let her stay with them.Life with the seven dwarfs was wonderful! Snow White cooked and cleaned for them, and they protected her from the wicked queen. But the queen soon discovered that Snow White was still alive. She disguised herself as an old peddler womanand visited the dwarfs' cottage, offering Snow White a poisoned apple.Poor, trusting Snow White took a bite of the apple and immediately fell into a deep, deathlike sleep. The dwarfs were heartbroken and placed her in a glass coffin in the forest. One day, a handsome prince was riding through the woods and saw the beautiful Snow White. He begged the dwarfs to let him take her away, and as the prince's servants lifted the coffin, the poisoned apple fell from Snow White's lips, and she woke up!The prince was overjoyed and asked Snow White to marry him. They had a grand wedding, and Snow White invited all the dwarfs to live with them in the palace. As for the wicked queen, she was forced to dance in red-hot iron shoes until she dropped dead. From that day on, Snow White and the prince lived happily ever after.Wasn't that a wonderful story? I love fairy tales, don't you? They always have such exciting adventures, brave heroes and heroines, and happy endings. Snow White is one of my favorites because she's so kind and good, even when she goes through such hardships. And the seven dwarfs are just so cute and funny!I wish I could live in a cottage in the forest with friendly little dwarfs to keep me company. We could sing and dance andwhistle while we work, just like they do in the story. Of course, I wouldn't want to run into any wicked queens or poisoned apples! That part was pretty scary. But it all turned out okay in the end, thanks to the handsome prince. I'd love to meet a real-life prince and have him sweep me off my feet! We could get married and live in a huge castle with towers and turrets and ride around on beautiful white horses. Wouldn't that be amazing?Maybe someday my prince will come, just like in the fairy tales. Until then, I'll just have to keep dreaming and reading my favorite stories over and over again. Who knows, maybe the next book I open will be filled with magic and adventure, just waiting for me!篇3Snow White's StoryOnce upon a time, there was a beautiful princess named Snow White. She had skin as white as snow, lips as red as a rose, and hair as black as ebony wood. Her mother died when she was very young, and her father married another woman who became her stepmother.Snow White's stepmother was very vain and she always wanted to be the most beautiful lady in the land. She had a magic mirror that could talk. Every morning she would ask it "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" And the mirror would always reply "You are the fairest of them all, my queen."As Snow White grew into a young woman, her beauty began to surpass her stepmother's. One day, when the evil queen asked the mirror who was the fairest, it replied "Snow White is the fairest of them all!" The wicked stepmother became furiously jealous and ordered a huntsman to take Snow White into the forest and kill her. But the kind huntsman couldn't bring himself to harm the sweet princess. He told her about the stepmother's evil plan and warned her to run away and hide in the forest.Poor Snow White was scared and ran away as fast as she could go. She wandered through the dark, scary woods for many hours until she came across a tiny little cottage. Snow White was very tired, so she went inside and fell into a deep sleep across seven small beds. When she awoke, seven funny little men came home. They had beards and wore little hats and were very surprised to find Snow White sleeping in their beds! "Who are you?" they asked.Snow White explained what had happened with her evil stepmother. The seven dwarfs felt sorry for her and said she could stay and live with them if she kept their little home clean and cooked their meals. Their names were Grumpy, Sleepy, Dopey, Sneezy, Bashful, Happy, and Doc.Every morning, the dwarfs would go off to work in the diamond mines while Snow White stayed and tended to their home. They warned her "Don't let any strangers in while we are gone!" Snow White agreed, but one day an ugly old woman came knocking at the door. It was the wicked stepmother in disguise! She had made a poisoned apple and used her dark magic to make it look delicious and tempting."Pretty girl, let me in! I have nothing to sell but this delicious apple to quench your hunger," the woman cackled. Snow White didn't want to disobey her dwarf friends but the apple did look tasty. So she let the woman in and took a bite of the apple. But it was poisoned! As soon as the apple touched her lips, Snow White fell into a deep, deep sleep like death. When the seven dwarfs came home, they found Snow White lifeless on the floor. They cried and tried everything to wake her up, but nothing worked. Sadly, they made her a glass coffin sothey could keep her preserved and beautiful forever. They set the coffin outside in a peaceful clearing in the forest. One day, a handsome prince was riding through the forest and saw the coffin with Snow White inside. He was amazed at her beauty and kissed her to say goodbye. Miraculously, the kiss broke the spell and Snow White opened her eyes! The prince was overjoyed and took her away to his kingdom on his horse to make her his bride. As for the evil stepmother, the magic mirror told her the truth - that Snow White was still alive and more beautiful than ever as a princess. The vain queen was so angry that she danced in fury until she fell from a cliff to her death. Snow White and the prince lived happily ever after in his castle, surrounded by their loving dwarf friends. The end!篇4Snow White: A Fairy TaleOnce upon a time, in a small kingdom surrounded by tall mountains, there lived a beautiful princess named Snow White. She had skin as white as snow, lips as red as roses, and hair as black as ebony wood. Snow White's mother, the Queen, had diedwhen she was just a baby. Her father, the King, eventually remarried a vain and wicked woman. The new Queen was very beautiful, but she was also jealous and cruel. She had a magic mirror, and every morning she would ask it, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" The mirror would always reply, "You are the fairest of them all, my Queen." This made the Queen very happy because she was obsessed with being the most beautiful woman in the land.As the years went by, Snow White grew into a lovely young princess. One day, when the Queen asked her mirror the same question, the mirror responded, "My Queen, you are beautiful indeed, but Snow White is fairer than thee." The wicked Queen flew into a rage! She became consumed with hatred for Snow White because of her beauty. The jealous Queen ordered her huntsman to take Snow White into the forest and kill her. She demanded he bring back the princess's heart as proof. The kind huntsman took pity on beautiful Snow White and let her go, telling her to run away into the forest and never return to the castle.Poor Snow White was terribly frightened as she wandered deeper into the dark forest all alone. Night fell, and she grew tired and cold. Just when she thought she could go no further, she came upon a tiny cottage. She knocked on the door, but no one answered. Snow White was so exhausted that she went inside and fell into a deep sleep across seven small beds. The cottage belonged to seven dwarfs who worked in the diamond mines. When they returned home that night, they found the sleeping princess under their tiny blankets. At first they were surprised, but soon they grew very fond of her sweet nature. Snow White began living with the dwarfs and kept their little cottage tidy and neat while they worked in the mines during the day.Meanwhile, the wicked Queen discovered from her mirror that Snow White was still alive. She disguised herself as an old peddler woman and made her way to the dwarfs' cottage deep in the forest. When Snow White answered the door, the Queen tried to lace her up in a new bodice, but pulled the laces so tightly that Snow White fainted from lack of breath. Just then, the dwarfs arrived home and chased away the phony peddler woman. They quickly unlaced Snow White's bodice and she was soon breathing normally again. But the evil Queen was determined and changed her disguise again, this time as a farmer's wife selling apples. Snow White was drawn to a beautiful red appleheld by the old woman. Before the dwarfs could stop her, Snow White took a bite of the poisoned apple and fell to the floor, seemingly dead. The heartbroken dwarfs placed her in a glass coffin and kept watch over her day and night. A prince was riding through the forest one day and saw the beautiful Snow White lying in the coffin. He begged the dwarfs to let him take her away, as he had fallen deeply in love with her. As the prince's men lifted the coffin to take it away, they stumbled and jolted the coffin, dislodging the poisoned apple piece from Snow White's throat. She opened her eyes and was alive once more! The prince was overjoyed and promised to take care of Snow White forever. To celebrate, they had a grand wedding ceremony. Unbeknownst to everyone, the wicked Queen had slipped in among the wedding guests, still disguised as an old woman. When she learned the bride was none other than herstep-daughter Snow White alive and well, she flew into a rage. In her anger, she began to dance a frenzied jig.Her disguise fell away as she danced wildly, revealing her true wicked form. But as she stamped and jumped in her rage, her foot slipped and she fell to the floor—dead at last. And so, Snow White married her prince and they lived happily ever afterin his kingdom, far away from the reach of the evil Queen. The kind dwarfs often came to visit their dear friend Snow White in her new castle home. From that day on, they all had nothing but happy times filled with peace and joy.The end.篇5The Wonderful Tale of Snow WhiteOnce upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, there lived a beautiful princess named Snow White. She had skin as white as snow, lips as red as roses, and hair as black as ebony wood. Snow White's mother, the Queen, tragically passed away when she was very young. Her father, the King, remarried a vain and wicked woman who became the new Queen. The new Queen was incredibly jealous of Snow White's beauty. Every day, she would consult her magic mirror, asking "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" The mirror would always reply, "You are the fairest here, my Queen." This satisfied the Queen's vanity for a while. However, as Snow White grew older, her beauty blossomed like a lovely flower. One fateful day, when the Queen asked themirror who was the fairest, it responded, "You are fair, my Queen, 'tis true, but Snow White is fairer than you." The Queen flew into a jealous rage! She could not bear the thought of anyone being more beautiful than herself. In her anger, the wicked Queen summoned a huntsman and ordered him to take Snow White deep into the forest and kill her. The poor huntsman did as he was told and led the innocent princess into the dark woods. But when he raised his dagger to strike, Snow White pleaded for her life, saying she would run away and never return. The huntsman took pity on her and set her free.Lost and alone in the forest, the frightened Snow White wandered for hours until she stumbled upon a tiny cottage. Being very hungry and tired, she let herself in and found seven little beds. After eating some bread and drinking some milk, Snow White felt so exhausted that she fell asleep across the seven small beds. When night fell, the owners of the cottage arrived home. They were seven cheerful dwarfs who worked in a diamond mine. At first, the dwarfs were surprised to find a young girl asleep in their beds. But Snow White won their hearts with her gentle spirit and beauty. The kind dwarfs allowed her to stay and keep housefor them, as long as she promised never to let anyone inside while they were away at work.Meanwhile, back at the castle, the Queen was beside herself with rage when she discovered that Snow White was still alive. Three times she plotted to get rid of her step-daughter. First she disguised herself as an old peddler woman and tried to lace Snow White's bodice so tightly that she couldn't breathe. Then she dressed as a strange old lady and tried to comb a poisoned comb into Snow White's hair. Both times, the dwarfs arrived just in time to save their friend. Finally, the Queen brewed a toxic potion and dipped a luscious red apple into it, leaving just one side untouched by the poison. Disguising herself as a kindly peasant woman, she offered the tempting apple to Snow White. The unsuspecting princess took one bite of the delicious fruit and immediately fell into a deep, deathlike slumber. When the dwarfs returned home, they found poor Snow White lifeless on the floor. No matter what they tried, they could not revive her. Heartbroken, they placed her in a glass coffin so all could admire her beauty.Years passed, until one day a prince rode through the forest and discovered the glass coffin containing gorgeous Snow White. The prince was so struck by her beauty that he begged the dwarfs to let him take her away. As the prince's servants lifted the coffin to carry it away, they stumbled and dislodged the poisoned apple from Snow White's lips. She instantly opened her eyes, awakened from the evil spell!Snow White and the prince fell deeply in love. They soon married and lived happily ever after in the prince's kingdom. As for the wicked Queen, some say she was forced to dance inred-hot iron shoes until she dropped dead from exhaustion. And the magic mirror? Well, it simply told the truth from then on.What an enchanting fairy tale filled with valuable lessons! It reminds us to stay kind and good-hearted like Snow White, no matter how others may wrong us. Beauty that is only skin deep will never be as lovely as inner beauty that shines from the soul. Most importantly, evil and jealousy only breed more darkness, while love triumphs over wickedness in the end.篇6Snow White: A Fairy Tale for the AgesOnce upon a time, in a faraway land, there lived a beautiful princess named Snow White. She had skin as white as snow, lips as red as roses, and hair as black as ebony. Snow White's motherdied when she was very young, and her father married another woman who became the wicked stepmother. The new queen was a cruel and vain woman. She had a magic mirror to which she would ask every day, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" The mirror would always reply that the queen was the fairest in the land. However, as Snow White grew older, she became even more beautiful than her stepmother. One day, when the queen asked her mirror the same question, it responded, "My queen, you are fair to see, but Snow White is fairer than thee." The evil queen flew into a jealous rage! She called a huntsman and ordered him to take Snow White into the forest and kill her. The poor man took pity on the sweet princess and let her go, telling her to run away and never return.Deep in the forest, Snow White was scared and alone. She came upon a tiny cottage and went inside to rest. There she found seven small chairs, seven plates, and seven tiny beds. "This cottage belongs to seven dwarfs," thought Snow White. She was so tired that she fell asleep across their beds. That evening, the seven dwarfs who lived in the cottage came home from working in the diamond mines. When they saw Snow White lying there, they gasped in surprise! But she seemedso sweet that they let her stay with them in exchange for keeping the cottage clean and cooking their meals.Meanwhile, back at the castle, the magic mirror told the truth to the queen again – that Snow White was alive and well, living with the seven dwarfs. The evil stepmother disguised herself as an old peddler woman. She went to the dwarfs' cottage and used a cunningly dyed comb to put Snow White into a deep, deathlike sleep. The kind dwarfs sadly laid Snow White in a glass coffin in the forest. Along came a handsome prince who fell in love with her beauty the moment he saw her. He begged the dwarfs to let him take her away. As his servants lifted the coffin to move it, they stumbled and dislodged the comb from her hair. Snow White awoke with a start! The prince was overjoyed and insisted that Snow White come back to his kingdom and marry him. The dwarfs were heartbroken to lose their friend, but they rejoiced that she had found her prince. Snow White and the prince were married, while the evil queen's whereabouts became unknown. Some say she was forced to dance in red-hot iron shoes until she dropped dead from exhaustion. And Snow White and her prince lived happily ever after! This classic fairy tale teaches us that inner beauty is just as important as outer beauty. It also shows the dangers of vanity and jealousy. Most of all, it's a wonderful story of good triumphing over evil through courage, kindness, and true love.。

• In “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,” Hemingway uses language that reveals the extreme displeasure of being judged a coward by those you love. Francis Macomber has to deal with the fear of death through his experiences on an African safari with the white hunter, Robert Wilson. However, Margaret, Macomber’s sneering but beautiful wife, makes fun of poor Macomber for earlier acts of cowardice with a lion. It’s almost as if Hemingway is telling a story of his own life by the way he writes this so eloquen“The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber” & “A Very Short Story”

“The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber”
Francis Macomber, already holding numerous fishing records wanted to go on a hunting safari in Africa. He and his wife travelled to Africa, and stayed with a professional guide, Robert Wilson. When hunting a lion, Macomber shot too far back, shooting it in the guts, wounding it. The guide, Wilson and he went in to kill the lion, when it charged and Macomber ran like a girl. His wife was very displeased with her cowardly husband, so she slept with Wilson, the guide, who was quite the womanizer himself. Macomber learned of this, so when they went hunting for cape buffalo, he took his aggression out and killed three large bulls. One got up and charged Macomber, who didn’t run this time, instead he stood his ground and shot at the bull, but it didn’t stop. Seeing his courage, Margaret shot at the bull, but by mistake shot her husband in the head.

However, i knew more about him after I learned the History and Anthology of American Literature, he appeals to me dearly and deeply. As a result, I read a part of his novels in part time. Here I will introduce Million Pounds to you. Before that, I will give some information about Mark Twain to you. And last, it comes my though.Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835 – April 21,1910) was an American humorist, satirist, lecturer and writer, better known by the pen name Mark Twain. He was born in Florida, Missouri and brought up in Hannibal, Missouri. After his father's death in 1847, he was apprenticed to a printer and wrote for hisbrother's newspaper. He later worked as a licensed Mississippiriver-boat pilot. The Civil War put an end to the steamboat traffic and Clemens moved to Virginia City, where he edited the Territorial Enterprise. On February 3, 1863, 'Mark Twain' was born when Clemens signed a humorous travelaccount with that pseudonym. He often uses exaggerated ways to show his irony.Mark Twain is most noted for his novels Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. He is also known for his quotations. During his life, Clemens became a friend to presidents, artists, leading industrialists and European royalty. For I love the One Million Pounds Note best, I would introduce it to you.Is there real free-lunch in the world? Maybe there is! And such kind of “free lunch” strikes the poor and honest young man Henry Adams who has surprisingly got a one-million bank note from the brothers (Roderick & Oliver)。

百万英镑,英文版篇一:百万英镑英文简介The Million Pound NoteThis time I want to talk about a very famous short story written by Mark Twain---------“The Million Pound Note”. Referring to Mark Twain, you must feel familiar, because we must have read his works before. I still remember the article “ The Bite Events on the Train” in our textbook when I’m in the middle school. What touched me most at that time were his ironic words. Yes, he is a great humorist, novelist, writer and orator in America in nineteenth century. During his 40 years’ writing career, he create d dozens of short or long stories. This story tells about a poor but honest American Adam Hey. When he was wandering in the street of London, he was given by two billionaires a letter, in which he surprisedly found a £1,000,000 pound bank-note. Later he got to knowthat the two billionaires who were brothers had made a bet about the results after he got a one million-pound note at once. One of them thought the note wound count for nothing to the poor man because he could not prove that the money was his own while the other considered just as the opposite.Dramatically, the plot went just out of my expectation. Herry went to a restaurant to have dinner first. The manager was mean to him at the beginning but his attitude changed quickly when Herry took out the note and asked for change. Faced with a millionaire, the manager apologized again and again and obsequiously told Herry that he didn’t need to payfor the bill right now. So Herry managed to have a free dinner. Then similarly, Herry went to a clothing shop and got a suit of clothes costing him nothing.Like the plot above, people are curious of such a rich man and tried every means to cozy up to him, from free food, free clothes to free adation. At the same time, his social status was becoming higher and higher and finally higher than most dukes. Apart from that, he later got a beautiful wife and 200,000 pounds of bank interest. I can imagine a bright future was waiting for him.The writing style of this story is so humorous. Mark Twain used hyperbole describing how our hero defeated snobbishness repeatedly. What I appreciate most is the detailed description of different people’s ridiculous actions before one million pounds, vivid, funny, ironic and humorous, which forms a Caricature. In terms of the theme, it is apparent that the author wanted to dee the overflowing mammonism in the society. Even now it gives us an impressive lesson. Yes, I cannot deny the importance of money to a person who wants to survive. We won’t live without money, withwhich we get food, clothes, house and many other necessities. But we must know that there are many things which can’t be bought with money such as love or friendship. So in my opinion, money may be important to us, but not the most important. We need to build up the correct sense of money. To sum up, this story is a really good work of Mark Twain. The lesson I’ve learnt from it makes me want to be an honest man sincerely and lets me not to worship money too much. I begin to regret not reading it earlier.本科六班王珊红BC10110619篇二:百万英镑英文版Studying aboardNowadays, there appears an undeniable fact that an increasing number of Chinese students choose to study aboard. They persuade the Bank of England to issue a one millionpound banknote, which they present to Adams in an envelope (only telling him that it contains some money). The reasonfor this is that Oliver believes that the mere existence ofthe note will enable the possessor to obtain whatever he needs, while Roderick contends that it would actually have to be spent for it to be of any use. Once Adams gets over the shock of discovering how much the note is worth, he tries to return it to the brothers, but is told that they have leftfor a month. He then finds a letter in the envelope, explaining the wager and promising him a job if he can avoid spending the note for the month. At first, everything goes as Oliver had predicted. Adams is mistaken for an eccentric millionaire and has no trouble getting food, clothes and a hotel suite on credit, just by showing his note. The story of the note is reported in the newspapers. Adams is welcomedinto exclusive social circles, meeting the American ambassador and English aristocracy. He becomes very friendly with Portia Lansdowne (Jane Griffiths), the niece of the Duchess of Cromarty. Then, fellow American Lloyd Hastings (Hartley Power) asks him to back a business venture. Hastings tells Adams that he does not have to put up any money himself; the mere association will allow Hastings to raise the moneyhe needs to start up a gold mine by selling shares. Troublearises when the Duke of Frognal (A. E. Matthews), who had been unceremoniously evicted from the suite Adams now occupies, hides the note as a joke. When Adams is unable to produce the note, panic breaks out amongst the shareholders and Adams' creditors. Fortunately, all is straightened out in the end, and Adams is able to return the note to the Montpelier brothers at the end of the month.。

The French writer Guy de Maupassant was a master at telling stories that draw you in and feel completely real. Let me tell you about his fascinating life and some of his most famous tales.Maupassant was born in 1850 in the region of Normandy in northern France. As a young boy, he loved exploring the Norman countryside and listening to the locals spin amusing yarns. His mother came from a family of well-off entrepreneurs, while his father was from an aristocratic lineage that could be traced back hundreds of years. Though his parents separated when he was 11, Guy had a relatively happy childhood, spending time at the countryside estates of his mom and dad.As Guy grew up, he discovered he had a real knack for writing compelling stories, just like the ones the rustic Norman peasants used to tell him as a kid. He moved to Paris as a young man to attend university and pursue his passion for literature. To support himself, he took a job as a clerk in a government ministry office. But he spent his free time furiously writing short stories and novels.Maupassant's big break came when he met one of France's most revered writers of the time, Gustav Flaubert, who was impressed by the young man's raw talent. Flaubert took Maupassant under his wing and helped him get his first major work, a short story collection, published in 1880 when Maupassant was 30 years old. The book was a smash hit! Readers were blown away by how vividly Maupassant depicted life inprovincial French towns and brought even the most ordinary characters to life.Over the next decade, Maupassant wrote over 300 short stories, six novels, three travel books, and a volume of poetry. Two of his most acclaimed novels were Pierre and Jean in 1888 and Bel-Ami in 1885. Pierre and Jean is a poignant tale about two brothers from a wealthy Norman family whose relationships are thrown into turmoil over an inheritance. Bel-Ami is a brilliant satire that follows an unscrupulous social climber who uses his powers of seduction to ruthlessly pursue wealth and status in corrupt Parisian high society circles. But Maupassant's biggest claim to fame were his wonderful short stories. He was a master at this form of writing, using precise and descriptive language to instantly transport readers into his gritty, often humorously ironic fictional worlds. What made his stories truly unique was how he peeked unflinchingly into the darker, less savory aspects of the human condition like greed, cruelty, and delusion. Yet he did so in nuanced ways that weren't overly bleak or cynical. Some of Maupassant's most iconic tales include "The Necklace," where a vain middle-class woman's desperate attempt to appear wealthy at a high-society party leads to yearsof crushing poverty and slaved labor. In "Boule de Suif" ("Ball of Fat"), set during the Franco-Prussian War, a greedy and selfish woman's refusal to accommodate Prussian officers leads her fellow refugees to turn on her in disturbing ways. The twist endings and psychological insights in stories like these made them instant classics.Sadly, Maupassant's brilliant literary career was cut short when he began showing signs of mental illness in his early 40s, most likely brought on by a treatment of that time that involved injecting him with hallucinogenic drugs. He spent the final year and a half of his life in and out of asylums, dying in 1893 at the tragically young age of 42.But through his penetrating and psychologically nuanced stories and novels, Guy de Maupassant's literary genius lives on. His tales open up portals into 19th century French society while also shining a brutally honest light on the darkest crevices of human nature itself. Yet his skilled writing makes even the most flawed and cringeworthy characters feel real, compelling, and sometimes even ironically humorous. So the next time you need a break from video games or Netflix, I recommend picking up a volume of Maupassant's timeless stories. You'll be instantly transported to vividlyrendered worlds where dishonest souls, bourgeois hypocrites, and miserly misers encounter unexpected plot twists that will keep you guessing until the very last page. The Master Storyteller is guaranteed to leave you transfixed!篇3Guy de Maupassant: The Master StorytellerGuy de Maupassant was a famous French writer who lived from 1850 to 1893. He was a famous French author who lived a long time ago, from 1850 to 1893. Maupassant is considered one of the greatest short story writers of all time! Let me tell you a bit about his life and some of his most beloved stories.Maupassant was born in Normandy, which is a beautiful region in northern France. His parents came from very different backgrounds. His father was from a wealthy family, but his mother came from a poorer family of tradesmen. Even though he had a complicated childhood, Maupassant loved to read and write from a very young age. When he was a teenager, Maupassant moved to Paris to attend school. He studied law for a little while, but he didn't really like it very much. What Maupassant was truly passionate about was writing stories and poems. He began his writing career as a clerk for the French government. However, he would use all his free time scribbling away, crafting wonderful tales. In 1880, Maupassant's first major work, a collection of short stories called "La Maison Tellier," was published. The book was a huge success! Pretty soon, everyone in Paris was talking about the fresh new voice of Guy de Maupassant. Probably his most famous was"Bel-Ami," published in 1885. A VERY SHORT STORY
Ernest Hemingway One hot evening in Padua1 they carried him up onto the roof and he could look out over the top of the town. There were chimney swifts in the sky. After a while it got dark and the searchlights came out. The others went down and took the bottles with them. He and Luz could hear them below on the balcony. Luz sat on the bed. She was cool and fresh in the hot night.
Luz stayed on night duty for three months. They were glad to let her. When they operated on him she prepared him for the operating table; and they had a joke about friend or enema2. He went under the anaesthetic holding tight on to himself so he would not blab about anything during the silly, talky time. After he got on crutches he used to take the temperatures so Luz would not have to get up from the bed. There were only a few patients, and they all knew about it. They all liked Luz. As he walked back along the halls he thought of Luz in his bed.
Before he went back to the front they went into the Duomo3 and prayed. It was dim and quiet, and there were other people praying. They wanted to get married, but there was not enough time for the banns4, and neither of them had birth certificates. They felt as though they were married, but they wanted everyone to know about it, and to make it so they could not lose it.
Luz wrote him many letters that he never got until after the armistice. Fifteen came in a bunch to the front and he sorted them by the dates and read them all straight through. They were all about the hospital, and how much she loved him and how it was impossible to get along without him and how terrible it was missing him at night.
After the armistice they agreed he should go home to get a job so they might be married. Luz would not come home until he had a good job and could come to New York to meet her. It was understood he would not drink, and he did not want to see his friends or anyone in the States. Only to get a job and be married. On the train from Padua to Milan5 they quarreled about her not being willing to come home at once. When they had to say good-bye, in the station at Milan, they kissed good-bye, but were not finished with the quarrel. He felt sick about saying good-bye like that.
He went to America on a boat from Genoa6. Luz went back to Pordonone to open a hospital. It was lonely and rainy there, and there was a battalion of arditi7 quartered in the town. Living in the muddy, rainy town in the winter, the major of the battalion made love to Luz, and she had never known Italians
before, and finally wrote to the States that theirs had only been a boy and girl affair. She was sorry, and she knew he would probably not be able to understand, but might some day forgive her, and be grateful to her, and she expected, absolutely unexpectedly, to be married in the spring. She loved him as always, but she realized now it was only a boy and girl love. She hoped he would have a great career, and believed in him absolutely. She knew it was for the best.
The major did not marry her in the spring, or any other time. Luz never got an answer to the letter to Chicago about it. A short time after he contracted gonorrhea from a sales girl in a loop department store while riding in a taxicab through Lincoln Park.
