Angry at wastin g time in traffic jams only to find no parking spaces when you e ventually arrive at the store? If this is you, then online shopping is the answer to your dreams of trouble-free shopping. Or is it? Online shopping brings its own challenges. Here are a few thing s to bear in mind when browsing (浏览) various websites. The claim made by online sites is that sho pping online is a safe and secure way to make purchases. The evidence challenges this. In any case, you only have to be the v ictim of fraud (诈骗) once to experience all the problems that come with this form of stealing. Use only sites that have a trusted history and an ex cellent reputation.Another problem is the appearance of items in reality is often q uite different from what you see on your computer screen. This might not be a problem if you are buying washing up powder bu t could be a major disappointment when that beautiful blue dress you ordered turns up in green. Also, product descriptions are sometimes simply untrue. Perhaps the wisest plan is to purchas e items where design and color are not essential to customer s atisfaction. Some even argue that online shopping indirectly contributes to global warming. Yes, your car can stay parked but how are onli ne goods delivered? Often by some large vans pouring out carb on monoxide and adding to our already desperate traffic proble ms. You are also by now becoming increasingly irritated (使烦恼) by the fact that the delivery is late and you have wasted the leave from work you have taken to receive it!Without question, online shopping is here to stay and it has its b enefits. However, perhaps it is not as wonderful as some of its s upporters claim it to be.36. 2014高考英语阅读理解专题训练极品题(22)及答案C7[2013·天津卷] ----CPoet William Stafford once said that we are defined more by the detours(绕行路) in life than by the narrow road toward goals.I like this image. But it was quite by accident that I discovered the deep meaning of his words. For years we made the long drive from our home in Seattle to my parents' home in Boise in nine hours. We traveled the way most people do: the fastest, shortest, easiest road, especially when I was alone with four noisy, restless kids who hate confinement(限制) and have strong opinions about everything.Road trips felt risky,so I would drive fast, stopping only when I had to.We would stick to the freeways and arrive tired. But then Banner, our lamb was born.He was rejected by his mama days before our planned trip to Boise.I had two choices: leave Banner with my husband, or take him with me.My husband made the decision for me.That is how I found myself on the road with four kids, a baby lamb and nothing but my everlasting optimism to see me through. We took the country roads out of necessity. We had to stop every hour, let Banner shake out his legs and feed him.The kids chased him and one another. They'd get back in the car breathless and energized, smelling fresh from the cold air.We explored side roads, catching grasshoppers in waist-high grass.Even if we simply looked out of the car windows at baby pigs following their mother, or fish leaping out of the water, it was better than the best ride down the freeway. Here was life. And new horizons(见识).We eventually arrived at my parents' doorstep astonishingly fresh and full of stories.I grew brave with the trip back home and creative with my disciplining technique. On an empty section of road, everyone started quarreling.I stopped the car, ordered all kids out and told them to meet me up ahead.I parked my car half a mile away and read my book in sweet silence. Some road trips are by necessity fast and straight. But that trip with Banner opened our eyes to a world available to anyone adventurous enough to wander around and made me realize that a detour may uncover the best part of journey—and the best part of yourself.46.Why did the author use to take freeways to her parents' home?A.It was less tiring.B.It would be faster and safer.C.Her kids would feel less confined.D.She felt better with other drivers nearby.47.The author stopped regularly on the country roads to ________.A.relax in the fresh airB.take a deep breathC.take care of the lambD.let the kids play with Banner48.What does the author discover from the trip according to Paragraph 6?A.Freeways are where beauty hides.B.Getting close to nature adds to the joy of life.C.Enjoying the beauty of nature benefits one's health.D.One should follow side roads to watch wild animals.49.Why did the author ask the kids to get out of the car on their way back home?A.To give herself some time to read.B.To order some food for them.C.To play a game with them.D.To let them cool down.50.What could be the best title for the passage?A.Charm of the DetourB.The Road to BraveryC.Creativity out of NecessityD.Road Trip and Country Life【要点综述】本文是一篇记叙文。

Tea drinking was common in China for nearly one thousand years before anyone in Europe had ever heard about tea.People in Britain were much slower in finding out what tea was like, mainly because tea was very expensive。
It could not be bought in shops and even those people who could afford to have it sent from Holland did so only because it was a fashionable curiosity. Some of them were not sure how to use it。
They thought it was a vegetable and tried cooking the leaves. Then they served them mixed with butter and salt。
They soon discovered their mistake but many people used to spread the used tea leaves on bread and give them to their children as sandwiches。
Tea remained scarce and very expensive in England until the ships of the East India Company began to bring it direct from China early in the seventeenth century。
BIt’s good to make mistakes, and here is why.First of all, mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new thin gs. It’s always good to try new things because when you are tryi ng new things you are growing. If you never try anything new, h ow can you improve? How can you expand? The simple answe r is “You can’t”. Look around you. With very few exceptions (例外), either everything you see in your physical world or every si ngle detail of every single thing is the result of someone trying s omething new.Another good thing about mistakes is this: When you are ma king mistakes, you are learning. Consider this: Edison failed 10, 000 times before he perfected the light bulb. When asked how it felt to fail that many times, he said that he hadn’t failed 10,000 times, but rather had learned 10,000 things that did n’t work. Finally, when you make a mistake you are much closer to su ccess. Why?Because when all is said and done, you will have tried some number of things before you succeeded. Every time you makea mistake you eliminate one of those things and are one step cl oser. But this all doesn’t mean that you should go ahead without c onsidering the consequences of a mistake. Quite the contrary, when you try something new you have to be willing to set some reasonable limits so that in the event that it d oesn’t work out the way you want it to, you will be in a position to try again. We all have limited resources in the form of time and money so don’t blow them all on one approach to a problem. Realize th at it probably won’t be perfect the first time and allocate (分配) these resources appropriately so you can learn, make corre ctions, and try it again. Only by accepting and using your mistak es in this way can you make significant advances in your busin ess and your career. There is an old saying that goes, “If you’re not making mistakes , you’re not trying hard enough.”So go forth and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And pr osper(成功).50. From the second paragraph, we can conclude that _______.A. mistakes are better than not tryingB. we are afraid of trying new thingsC. it’s common for people to make mistakesD. mistakes are unnecessary for developmen51. The underlined word “eliminate” means _______.A. avoidB. solveC. acceptD. dismi ss52. According to the article, one thing you should pay attention t o about making mistakes is _______.A. avoiding making the same mistakesB. accepting the puni shment willinglyC. taking consequences into accountD. trying things out o ne by one53. The article is mainly about _______.A. how to deal with mistakesB. what benefits mistakes bringC. how to achieve successD. how to make use of you r mistakes54. What would the writer probably suggest we say to ourselves when we make a mistake?A. Never mind, I can always try again.B. I’d better stay out of trouble.C. Great! Now I can learn something.D. Look at this mess . Anyone would be upset.【参考答案】50-54 ADCBC阅读理解------E(2013·江西,D)One might expect that the evergrowing demands of the tourist tr ade would bring nothing but good for the countries that receive t he holidaymakers. Indeed, a rosy picture is painted for the longt erm future of the holiday industry. Every month sees the buildin g of a new hotel somewhere. And every month another rockbou nd Pacific island is advertised as the ‘last paradise (天堂) on earth’.However, the scale and speed of this growth seem set to destro y the very things tourists want to enjoy. In those countries wher e there was a rush to make quick money out of seaside holiday s, overcrowded beaches and the concrete jungles of endless ho tels have begun to lose their appeal. Those countries with little experience of tourism can suffer most . In recent years, set out to attract foreign visitors to fund devel opments in health and education. Its forests, full of wildlife and r are flowers, were offered to tourists as one more untouched par adise. In fact, the nature all too soon felt the effects of thousand s of holidaymakers traveling through the forest land. Ancient tra cks became major routes for the walkers, with the consequent exploitation of precious trees and plants. Not only can the environment of a country suffer from the sudde n growth of tourism. The people as well rapidly feel its effects. F armland makes way for hotels, roads and airports; the old way of life goes. The onetime farmer is now the servant of some mul tinational organization; he is no longer his own master. Once it was his back that bore the pain; now it is his smile that is exploit ed. No doubt he wonders whether he wasn't happier in his villag e working his own land.Thankfully, the tourist industry is waking up to the responsibilitie s it has towards those countries that receive its customers. The protection of wildlife and the creation of national parks go hand i n hand with tourist development and in fact obtain financial sup port from tourist companies. At the same time, tourists are bein g encouraged to respect not only the countryside they visit but also its people. The way tourism is handled in the next ten years will decide its f ate and that of the countries we all want to visit. Their needs an d problems are more important than those of the tourist compan ies. Increased understanding in planning worldwide tourism can preserve the market for these companies. If not, in a few years' time the very things that attract tourists now may well have bee n destroyed.

For some, an animal provides more comfort than a husband/wife. A 2002 study by Karen Allen of the State University of New York measured stress (紧张) levels and blood pressure in people - half of them pet owners –while they performed 5 minutes of mental arithmetic (算术) or held a hand in ice water. People with pets did it best .Those testedwith their animal friends had smaller change in blood pressure and returned. Most quickly to baseline heart rates .With pets in the room, people also made fewer math mistakes. Than when doing in front of other companions. To blame the other guy is even more human.Common sense is not all that common. Why tell the truth when you can come up with a good excuse? These three popular misquotes(戏谑的引语)are meant to be jokes, and yet they tell us a lot about human nature .To err, or to make mistakes, is indeed a part of being human, but it seems that most people don’t want to accept the responsibili ty for the problem. Perhaps it is the natural thing to do .The original quote about human nature went like this:” To err is human, to forgive, divine(神圣的).”This saying mirrors an i deal people should be forgiving of others’ mistakes. Instead, we tend to do the opposite –find someone else to pass the blame on to. However, taking responsibility for something that went wrong is a mark of great maturity.Common sense is what we call clear thought. Having common sense means having a good general plan that will make things work well, and it also means staying with the plan. Commonsense tells you that you take an umbrella out into a rainstorm, but you leave the umbrella home when you hear a weather forecast for sunshine.Common sense does not seem to be common for large organizations, because there are so many things going on that one person cannot be in charge of everything. People say that in a large company,” the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.”And what is wrong with a society that thinks that making up a good excuse is like creating a work of art? But have we gone to far in creating worlds of fantasy that we are missing the pleasure of other worlds that already exist all around us?Human beings, as biologists have suggested, possess an inborn desire to connect with and understand other life forms, however, people, especially in big cities, often lead rather isolated lives. In a study of British schoolchildren, it was found that children by age eight were much more familiar with characters for television shows and video games than with common wildlife. Without modern technology, a small pond could be an amazing world filled with strange and beautiful plants, insects, birds, and animals. When we lack meaningful interaction (交互) with the world around us, and sometimes even with our families and friends , we seek to understand and communicate with things that exist only in our imaginations or on a computer screen The world of make-believe is not necessarily bad, But when the world of fantasy becomes the only outlet (出路) our sense of wonder, then we are really missing something, We are missing a connection with the living world. We ‘ve all been there: in a lift, in line at the bank or on an airplane, surrounded by people who are, like us, deeply focused on their smartphones or, worse, struggling with the uncomfortable silence. What ‘s the problem? It ‘s possible that we all have compromised conversational intelligence. It ‘s more likely that none of us start a conversation because it’s awkward and challenging, or we think it’s annoying and unnecessary. But the next time you find yourself among strangers, consider that small talk is worth the trouble. Experts say it’s an invaluable social practice that results in big benefits.Dismissing small talk as unimportant is easy, but we can’t forget that deep relationships wouldn’t even exist if it weren’t for casual conversation. Small talk is the grease(润滑剂)for social communication, says Bernardo Carducci, director of the Shyness Research Institute at Indiana University Southeast.“Almost every great love story and each big business dealbegins with small talk,”he explains. “The key to successful small talk is learning how to connect with others, not just communicate with them.”In a 2014 study, Elizabeth Dunn, associate professor of psychology at UBC, invited people on their way into a coffee shop. One group was asked to seek out an interaction(互动)with its waiter; the other, to speak only when necessary. The results showed that those who chatted with their server reported significantly higher positive feelings and a better coffee shop experience.“It’s not that talking to the waiter is better than talking to your husband,”says Dunn.“But interactions with peripheral(边缘的)members of our social network matter for our well-being also.”Dunn believes that people who reach out to strangers feel a significantly greater sense of belonging, a bond with others. Carducci believes developing such a sense of belonging starts with small talk.“Small talk is the basis of good manners,”he says.35.What is the best title for the text?A.Conversation CountsB.Ways of Making Small TalkC.Benefits of Small TalkD.Uncomfortable Silence解析:中心句法。

Many people believe that classical music is not relevant to young people today . However, this issue (问题) frequently causes heated debate. Some people say that classical music is associated only with old people .For example, if you look at the audience at a classical concert , the majority is over the age of fifty.Others say it is more popular than we first imagine . Many young people listen to classical music without realising .It is often used in films and advertisements. For example.a famous piece of classical music was used as the theme music for the 1990 World Cup . Not many people could have given its name , but millions enjoyed it .Also, some people point out that young people produce new music based on classical ideas: for example, it is said that rap(说唱)music was invented by a classical musician in 1912, but it is now used by young people in pop music. However, young people point to the fact that classical music has been outstripped(超越) by technology. To play a classical instrument, such as a violin, you need to study hard and practise for hours. Nowadays, you don't need to get aching arms from practising. A teenager can write and make music using a computer program in the comfort of their own bedroom.A final point to in mind is that the term "classical music" isused to refer to a great variety of music, from jazz to pieces for large orchestras(管弦乐队).This makes it even more difficult to say whether classical music is relevant to young people. So, it may be only a minority of young people who play classical instruments , but when it comes to enjoying classical music, it depends on the piece of music. It may be more relevant to young people in the modern world than they realise!【答案】relevant【试题解析】原词再现。

1)The best title/ headline for this passage might be_____________.2)The text (passage) could be entitled ______________.3)What is the best title for the passage?4)Which of the following would be suitable as a title for the passage?2 大意类常见的主题型题干:5) This passage chiefly deals with____________.6) Whats the topic of the article?7) What is the subject discussed in the text?8) With what topic is the passage chiefly concerned?3 目的主旨大意题
1.The panda is a popular animal. Stories about the panda in the Washington Zoo are always front page news and important features on television newscasts. Stuffed pandas are among the most popular toys for children, and panda postcards are always in demand in zoo gift shops.例2.Today the problem of environment has become more and more serious. The world population is rising, so quickly that the world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources too quickly and at the same time we are polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. If we continue to do this, human life on earth will not survive.2). 3.A human body appears to be rather soft and delicate, compared with that of a wild animal, but it is actually surprisingly strong. In deed, its very softness and looseness is an advantage; it makes man good at moving about movement of all living things of his own size, because he can do so many different things with his limbs. Mans games show how he can control his own body. No other land creature can swim as skillfully as man; more has such varied grace; very few lives as long as he; none is so strong in its natural resistance to disease. Therefore man has a great advantage in his battle against the risks of damage and death that threaten him.3). 4.Nothing is as useful as a flashlight in a dark night if a tire goes flat. Few inventions are so helpful to a child who is afraid of the dark. In fact, the modern flashlight brings light to many dark situations. Finding something in the back of a closet is easy with a flashlight in hand a camper also needs one after the light of the campfire has been out.4).
例5.(首段)Shu Pulong has helped at least 1000 people bitten by snakes, It was seeing people with snakes bites that led me to the career.she said&O1472;(尾段)The sad story touched me so much that I decided to devote myself to helping people bitten bysnakes.Shu said.5).
6.Joshua Bingham studied 4 years at the University of Paris and decided to leave his graduation. He transferred to the University of Berlin and graduated with honors. Harvard Law School and, later, Boston College provided him with an excellent legal background. He is presently a corporation lawyer in Miami, Florida.Q: What is the main idea of the passage? ____A. How Joshua Bingham became a lawyer.B. Bingham is a diligent student.C. Joshua Bingham received an excellent education.D. A good lawyer needs good education.[分析]此文没有主题句。

No matter what your major may be, you can expect to spend between four and six hours a week for each class attending lectures. Lectures are usually in very large rooms because some courses such as introduction to sociology or economics often have as many as two or three hundred students, especially at large universities. In lectures, its very important for you to take notes on what the professor says because the information a lecture is often different from the information in your textbooks. Also, you can expect to have exam questions based on the lectures. So it isnt enough to just read your textbooks; you have to attend lectures as well. In a typical week you will also have a couple of hours of discussion for every class you take. The discussion section is a small group meeting usually with fewer than thirty students where you can ask questions about the lectures, the reading, and the homework. In large universities, graduate students, called teaching assistants, usually direct discussion sections. If your major is chemistry, or physics, or another science, youll also have to spend several hours a week in the lab, or laboratory, doing experiments. This means that science majors spend more time in the classroom than non science majors do. On the other hand, people who major in subjects like literature or history usually have to read and write more than science majors do.(2004重庆卷)④.The main purpose of this text is .A. to help the students to learn about university lifeB. to persuade the students to attend lecturesC. to encourage the sudents to take part in discussionsD. to advise the students to choose proper majors[分析]答案A B、C为细节,无论对错不能成为此类题型的答案.D.没有涉及到如何选择专业的问题you may be curious to know what you usually do in a typical week, how you can get along with your fellow students, and so on.These are the questions I want to discuss with you today.例5:Handshaking, though a European practice is often seen in big cities of China. Nobody knows exactly when the practice started in Europe. It is said that long long ago in Europe when people met, they showed their unarmed (无武器的) hands to each other as a sign of goodwill. As time went on and trade in cities grew rapidly, people in cities began to clap each others hands to make a deal or to reach an agreement. This practice was later changed into shaking hands among friends on meeting or leaving each other. Lets shake (hands) on it sometimes means agreement reached.Do the Europeans shake hands wherever they go and with whomever they meet? No. Sometimes the Chinese abroad reach out their hands too often to be polite. It is really very impolite to give your hand when the other party, especially when it is a woman, shows little interest in shaking hands with you and when the meeting does not mean anything to him or-her. Even if, for politeness, he holds out his unwilling hand in answer to your uninvited hand, just touch it slightly- There is generally a misunderstanding (误解) among the Chinese that westerners are usually open and straightforward, while the Chinese are rather reserved (保守的) in manner. But in fact some people in western countries more reserved than some Chinese today. So it is a good idea to shake hands with a westerner only when he shows interest in further relations with you.(2005年安徽卷)⑤The first paragraph mainly tells us ______.A. where handshaking was first practicedB. how handshaking came aboutC. about the relationship between handshaking and tradeD. about the practice of handshaking both in Europe and in China[分析]第一段主要讲述了握手的起源。
