潘基文世界难民日英语演讲稿:展望建设更美好的难民未来Ladies and gentlemen,
As we celebrate World Refugee Day, it is time to take a moment to remember all those who are forcibly displaced from their homes and communities. This year, we are faced with the unprecedented challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only are refugees forced to navigate the same dangers as the rest of us, but they do so with limited access to healthcare, sanitation and other basic necessities.
The theme for this year's World Refugee Day is "Every action counts". This is a reminder of the collective power we hold as individuals to make a meaningful difference in the lives of refugees. Every action, no matter how small it may seem, has the potential to change someone's life for the better.
Over the past few years, we have seen a significant increase in the number of refugees worldwide. Currently, there are over 70 million people displaced from their homes – the highest number on record since the Second World War. As this number continues to grow, it is important that we
work together to ensure that every refugee receives the assistance and protection they need.
The United Nations has been at the forefront of fighting for refugee rights. Through our various programs and initiatives, we strive to provide refugees with access to basic necessities like clean water, sanitation, healthcare, and education. These programs are driven by our shared commitment to building a better future for refugees, one in which they can rebuild their lives, pursue their dreams, and contribute to their community.
However, COVID-19 has presented us with challenges that we have never faced before. In many refugee camps around the world, social distancing is nearly impossible, making the spread of the virus a serious threat. The pandemic has also forced many refugees to become more reliant on aid due to
loss of income and increased food insecurity.
To combat these challenges, we need to come together as a global community. We need to ensure that refugees have access to healthcare and other basic necessities, and we need to provide them with the resources they need to rebuild their
lives. We also need to work on long-term solutions that
support refugees as they become more self-reliant.
Education is one such long-term solution. By providing refugees with access to education, we are empowering them
with the skills and knowledge they need to build better lives for themselves. Education can provide refugees with a sense
of purpose and direction, and it can open doors to a brighter future.
We also need to work on changing the narrative around refugees. Too often, refugees are portrayed as a burden on society. This is far from the truth. Refugees have the
potential to be valuable contributors to society, both in
their home country and in the countries they seek refuge in. By changing the narrative around refugees, we can begin to
see them as the assets they truly are.
In conclusion, as we celebrate World Refugee Day, let us remember that every action counts. Whether it is volunteering, donating, or simply spreading awareness, we all have the
power to make a difference in the lives of refugees. Let us work together to build a more inclusive and compassionate
world – a world where refugees are welcomed, respected and
empowered to build better lives for themselves and for their communities. Thank you.。
