Two traveling angels (天使) stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the guest room. Instead the angels were given a space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied: “Things aren’t always what they seem.”
The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable(好客的)farmer and his wife. After sharing what little food they had,the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night’s rest. When the sun came up the next morning, the angels
found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their only income, lay dead in the field.
The younger angel was very angry and asked the older angel, “How could this happen?” “Why did you not watch out for the cow? The first man had everything, yet you watched over his house,” she accused. “The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you did not help.”
“Things aren’t always what they seem,” the older angel replied. “When we stayed in the basement,I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall. Since the owner was so greedy and unwilling to share his good fortune,I asked God if I could seal(封口) the wall so he wouldn’t find it. Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers. But last summer, Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their older son: suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than to his parents. “The door to his room is always shut,” Joanna noted.
Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14-year-old daughter. “She used to cuddle up (蜷伏)with me on the sofa and talk,” said Mark. “Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something. Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is figuring out which time is which.”
Before age 11, children like to tell their parents what’s on their minds. “In fact, parents are first on the list,” said Michael Riera, author of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers. “This completely changes during the teen years,” Riera explained. “They talk t o their friends first, then maybe their teachers, and their parents last.”
Parents who know what’s going on in their teenagers’ lives are in the best position to help them. To break down the wall of silence, parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say, and try to find ways to talk and write to them. And they must give their children a mental break, for children also need freedom, though young. Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend, not a manager, with their children is a better way to know them. 60. “The door to his room is always shut”in the first paragraph suggests that the son______.

A. Teenagers talk a lot with their friends.
B. Teenagers do not want to understand their parents.
C. Teenagers do not talk much with their parents.
D. Teenagers talk little about their own lives.
63. What can be learned from the passage?
A. Parents are unhappy with their growing children.
B. Parents have suitable ways to talk with their teenagers.
C. Parents should be patient with their silent teenagers.
D. Parents should try to understand their teenagers.

Robert Frost was at heart a mean-spirited(心胸狭窄)human being, not the kind of man one would expect to write poetry. He was born in San Francisco. Frost entered Dartmouth University in 1893, but dropped out, and switched to Harvard, which he attended for two years. He started a brief teaching career, where he was inspired to become a poet by some of his students’ work. Frost stopped teaching and became a farmer. During this time he wrote numerous poems, and a couple of short stories. While he was a farmer, he started to think seriously about becoming a famous poet.
In almost all of his poems, Frost wrote in the first person. The first widely read poem that he published was called My Butterfly. At first, his audience was very small, but with his Collected Poems he became famous. Robert Frost received almost all the awards that there were for poetry. His poetry portrays(描述)the forces of nature, and the violence and deep emotional needs of human beings, which reflect the experiences of his childhood.
Robert Frost will always be known as one of the best poets in history. His way of putting emotion and violence into words is remarkable. B. Robert Frost began to write when he was in college
C. Robert Frost gave up studying at Dartmouth University
D. Robert’s poetry showed the violence of war a nd his childhood

That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco.
There I was, walking home at one in the morning after a tiring practice at the theater. With opening night only a week away, I was still learning my lines. I was having trouble dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me.
As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away from any possible robbers(抢劫犯).Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets.
About a block from my apartment,I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk.
Suddenly I wa sn’t cold or tired anymore. I ran out of the door and back to where I’d heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.
Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck(垃圾车)pull up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the inside, “Alisa Camacho?” I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an amused look in his eyes. “Is this what you’re looking for?” he asked, holding up a small square shape.
It was nearly 3 A.M. by the time I got into bed. I wouldn’t get much sleep that night, but I had gotten my wallet back. I also had gotten back some enjoyment of city life. I realized that the city couldn’t be a bad place as long as people were willing to help each other.
68. How did the writer feel when she was walking home after work?
A. Cold and sick.
B. Fortunate and hopeful.
C. Satisfied and cheerful.
D. Disappointed and helpless.
69. From the first paragraph, we learn that the writer was busy______.
A. solving her problem at the bank
B. taking part in various city activities
C. learning acting in an evening school
D. preparing for the first night show
70. On her way home the writer______.
A. lost her wallet unknowingly
B. was stopped by a garbage truck driver
C. was robbed of her wallet by an armed man
D. found some homeless people following her
71. From the text, we can infer that the writer______.
A. would stop working at night
B. would stay on in San Francisco
C. would make friends with cleaners
D. would give up her job at the bank

No one really knows how and why people change as they get older. Also, no theory sufficiently explains all the changes of the aging process. Aging is a complex and varied process that varies in how it affects different people and organs. In fact, even in one person, different organ systems “age” at a different rate.
At a certain point in our lives our body systems will begin to weaken. It may become more difficult for us to see and hear. The slow change of aging causes our bodies to lose some of their ability to bounce back from disease and injury. In order to live longer, we have always tried to slow or stop this change that leads us toward the end of our lives.
Many factors decide our health. A good diet plays an important role. The amount and the type of exercise we get are another two factors. Our living condition is yet another. But scientists studying the aging problem want to know: Why do people grow old? They hope that by studying the aging medical science they may be able to make the length of life longer.
There is nothing to be afraid of as the old age comes. Many consider the later part of life to be the best time for living. Physical activity may become less, but often we get better understanding of the world and ourselves.
What we consider the old age now may only be middle-aged some day soon. Who knows, with so many advances in medical science happening so quickly, life length may one day be measured in centuries, rather than in years!
72. The underlined phrase “bounce back ” in the second paragraph means “__________.”
A. jump backward
B. run fast
C. prevent
D. recover
73. In order to make people live longer, scientists _______according to the text.
A. teach people how to eat properly
B. discover how important the exercise is to one’s health
C. study the ways to slow or stop the process of aging
D. invent new medicine to slow down the process of aging
74. Many consider the later part of life to be the time of living because they__________.
A. consider their lives have been very successful
B. have come through the battle of life safely
C. know more about themselves and the outside world
D. can have a good rest and enjoy themselves
75. How many factors which decide our health are mentioned in the text?
A. Two
B. Four
C. Five
D. Six

People traveling long distances frequently have to decide whether they would prefer to go by land, sea or air. Hardly anyone can positively enjoy sitting in a train for more than a few hours. Train carriages soon get full of passengers and stuffy. It is almost impossible to take your mind off the journey. Reading is only a partial solution, for the noise of the wheels clicking on the rails soon makes you sleepy. During the day, sleep comes in short periods. At night, when you really want to go to sleep, you can rarely manage to do so. Surely you arrive at your destination almost worn out. Long car journeys are even less pleasant, for it is quite impossible even to read. On motorways you can, at least, travel fairly safely at high speeds, but more often than not, the greater part of the
journey is spent on roads with few service stations and too much traffic. By comparison, ferry trips or cruises offer a great variety of civilized comforts. You can stretch your legs on the spacious decks, play games, meet interesting people and enjoy delicious food—always assuming, of course, that the sea is calm. If it is not, and you are likely to get seasick, no form of transport could be worse. Even if you travel in ideal weather, sea journeys take a long time.
Aeroplanes have the reputation of being unsafe and even hardened travelers are afraid of them. They also have the disadvantages of being an expensive form of transport. But nothing can match them for speed and comfort. Traveling at a height of 30,000 feet, far above the clouds, and at over 500 miles an hour is a very exciting experience. You do not have to think out ways of taking your mind off the journey, for an aeroplane gets you to your destination rapidly. For a few hours, you settle back in a deep armchair to enjoy the flight. The real enjoyment is to watch a film and drink wine on some services. But even when these things are not available, there is plenty to keep you occupied. A plane offers you an unusual and breathtaking view of the world. The journey is so smooth that there is nothing to prevent you from reading or sleeping. No matter how you decide to spend your time, one thing is certain: you will arrive at your destination fresh and energetic. You do not have to spend the next few days recovering from a long and arduous journey.

One possible version
Dear Bob,
It’s very kind of you to write me and let me know about your beautiful city. Now I’d like to tell you something about my hometown Tongling.
The city lies by the side of t he Changjiang River, and it’s a nice place to live in with the beautiful scenery. The economy has been developing very quickly in the past ten years. Many factories, houses and roads are being built. However, the development of the economy has also caused some problems, such as water pollution, air pollution and traffic jams.
I think it’s not good to build so many factories. Many farmers lose their good farmland and it’s not easy for them to find jobs again. So, when developing the industry, I hope the city government will think of the possible negative effects and try to achieve sustainable development.
Best wishes.
