There was great excitement on the planet of Venus this week. For the first time Venusian scientists managed to land a satel lite on the planet Earth, and it has been sending back signals as well as photographs ever since.

“We have come to the conclusion, based on the information w e got ” Pro. Zog said, “that there is no life on the Earth.”“How do you know this?” the science reporter of the Venus Ev ening Star asked.
“For one thing, Earth’s surface in the area of Manhattan is ma de of solid concrete and nothing can grow there. For another, the atmosphere is filled with carbon monoxide and other dead ly gases and nobody could possibly breathe this air and surviv e.”
“What does this mean as far as our flying saucer program is c oncerne d?” the reporter continued.
“We shall have to take our own oxygen with us, which means heavier flying load than we originally planned.” said Pro. Zog.“Are there any other risks that you discovered in your studies?”
“Look at this photo. You see this dark black cloud floating ove r the surface of Earth? We call this the Consolidated Edison B elt. We don’t know what it is made of, but it could give us a lot of trouble and we shall have to make further tests before we send a Venus Being there.”
“If what you say is true, will the flying saucer program be put o ff?”
“Yes, but we shall continue it as soon as the Grubstart gives u s the added money.”

Famous Irish poet Oscar Wilde (1854-
1900) once wrote: “Ah! Realize your youth while you have it.”He pointed out how precious youth is in one’s life. However, the popular Internet slang word “foxi” ----
or Buddhist ---
- is encouraging young people to remain calm and peaceful a nd avoid conflict as much as possible — in other words, to liv e like a Buddha.
It’s said that the expression was created in Japan in 2014 to d escribe young men who no longer bother to start relationships with women or follow someone else’s life path. They prefer to stay in their own peaceful world without being disturbed and care little about passion and success.
Now, Chinese Internet users are combining the expression wit h other words to describe a similar mindset. For example, “Bu ddhist students” are those who study just the right amount - th ey don’t cut class, but they don’t stay up into the midnight, eit her. There are also “Buddhist parents”, who interfere (干
涉) little with their children’ s lives and let them develop freely. In this fast-
changing and competitive world, it’s natural that people are se eking a spiritual anchor(精神支
柱). However, some would compare “foxi” with “demotivation al culture” ----
a phrase that describes young people who feel aimless and p owerless. They say that “foxi” actually shows the reality that y oung people are losing their will to fight. They are pretending t
o keep a healthy and wise attitude toward failure simply beca use they’re not able to succeed.
But no matter what, there is one thing that “Buddhist youngste rs” should keep in mind: You may want to keep a calm minds et when facing failure, but you should also be enthusiastic ab out school, work and life. After all, Wilde also wrote: “Live the wonderful life that is in you! Let nothing be lost upon you. Be always searching for new sensations. Be afraid of nothing.”32. Which would be considered as “Buddhist” by Chinese Inte rnet users?
A. A man refusing to date with girls.
B. A person refusing others’ advice.
C. A parent caring too much about his child.
D. A student never working extra hours.
33. What does the underlined word “demotivational” in paragr aph 5 probably mean?
A. Full of energy.
B. Lacking motivation.
C. Physically healthy.
D. Absent-minded
34. What is the writer’s suggestion to “Buddhist youngsters”?
A. Being positive.
B. Being cooperative.
C. Being brave.
D. Being satisfied.
35. What is the best title of the passage?
A. Peaceful, or aimless?
B. Foxi is popular nowadays.
C. What should Buddhist youngsters do?
D. Foxi helps live a wonderful life.

Unlike most other holidays, the history of April Fools’ Day, sometimes called All Fools’ Day, i s not totally clear. People all agreed the time as the beginning of this tradition was 1582, in Fr ance. Before that year, the New Year was celebrated for eight days, beginning on March 25t h. The celebration reached the highest point on April 1st. With the reform of the calendar und er Charles IX,the Gregorian calendar(阳
历) was introduced, and New Year’s Day was moved to January 1st.
However, because at that time communications were not as developed as they are today, m any people did not receive the news for several years. Some people refused to accept the ne w calendar and continued to celebrate the New Year on April 1st and they were considered “f ools” by other people. They were often sent on “fools” assignment or were played tricks on. Over time this developed into a tradition of playing a trick on someone on the first day of April . The tradition eventually spread to England and Scotland in the eighteenth century. It was lat er introduced to the American colonies of both the Britain and France. April Fools’ Day thus d eveloped into an international fun feast.

Is There Life on Earth
There was great excitement on the planet of Venus this week. For the first time Venusian sci entists managed to land a satellite on the planet Earth, and it has been sending back signals as well as photographs ever since.
The satellite was directed into an area known as Manhattan (named after the great Venusian astronomer Prof. Manhattan, who first discovered it with his telescope 20,000 light years ago ). Because of excellent weather conditions and extremely strong signals, Venusian scientists were able to get valuable information about whether a manned flying saucer (飞
碟) can land on Earth. A press conference was held at the Venus Institute of Technology.“We have come to the conclusion, based on the information we got ” Pro. Zog said, “that ther e is no life on the Earth.”
“How do you know this?” the science reporter of the Venus Evening Star asked.
“For one thing, Earth’s surface in the area of Manhattan is made of solid concrete and nothin g can grow there. For another, the atmosphere is filled with carbon monoxide and other dead ly gases and nobody could possibly breathe this air and survive.”
“What does this mean as far as our flying saucer program is conc erned?” the reporter contin ued.
“We shall have to take our own oxygen with us, which means heavier flying load than we orig inally planned.” said Pro. Zog.
“Are there any other risks that you discovered in your studies?”。
