Mark Twain's classic novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, tells the story of a teenaged misfit who finds himself floating on a raft down the Mississippi River with an escaping slave, Jim. In the course of their perilous journey, Huck and Jim meet adventure, danger, and a cast of characters who are sometimes menacing and often hilarious. The book is noted for its colorful description of people and places along the Mississippi River.

The art expression of The Adventure of Huckberry Finn are mainly embodied in the following aspects: humorous language, strong spirit of the times, the first person narration way, the colloquial description.

Mark twain’s works are famous from his humorous characteristic style. Mark Twain get many materials from western American jokes which coutribute to the formation of his humor, because of being effected by oral literature, he does not has the ideal of only making people laugh but lake meaning in his humor. Mark Twain always combines both humor and irony in his works to help read ers to discover the deep meaning of his works when we are laughing at them.

In The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain described the ridiculous and the ugly of the two tricsters the Duke and the King. To deceive other’s money the two tricsters buil d a stadge and say they

will show the audiences something funny and exiting. After there are full of people the Buke boasts to them for a long time. Then the King comes out wallking with his hands and feet. His naked body is painted with colorful stripes. Facing this performance the audiences are laughing to d eath but the King still walking and jumping on the stage until his is tired. Mark Twain writes ironicall y “That foolish old man’s behavor can even make a cow laughs.” According to the writer’s humorous discription read ers feel a deep humor but after a careful thought they find is combined with tragics.

For the first time Mark Twain makes American has tragical laughter. Mark Twain’s works make us think about the vulgar of bourgeoisie, the hypocritical religion, the decary of the government. Let us look at the original book in which the “King” calls “Duke Bridgewater” instead of “Duke Bilgewater”. There is only the difference of three words but the meaning is changed totally. As we know brigewater is clean and pour but bligewater is dirty and smelly. This kind of humor makes the read ers laugh and happy but it also includes the writer’s distaination. Using this humor Mark Twain helps the read ers get humor from daily life and mould their moral.
