Step I Revise and Lead-in
T: Yesterday we three comparative words, do you still remember them?
S1: Yes. They are more, fewer and less.
T: Who can tell me the positive form of them?
S2: I can. They are many/much, few and little.
T: Yes, well done. Do you know how to use them in sentence? Could you use more to make a sentence?
S3: I have more books than my brother.
T: Good. Thanks for your examples. Now please look at the table
In this table we have three persons, so how to make comparison among them. Today
we will learn another three words: most, fewest and least. They are the superlative form of many/ much, few, little.
Explain the meaning of ‘most’, ‘fewest’, and ‘least’ to the students.
Step II Presentation
T: Please look at the pictures on Page 29 to see if you understand these sentences. Give students several minutes to read the sentences themselves and then tell them the use of these three words. Remind the students of “the” while teaching. T: The sentences we just read are comparing more than two things, could you find any differences between them and the sentences we learnt yesterday.
Ask students to think about it and then tell the rules, they may speak in Chinese if it’s too difficult for them. The teacher then summarizes it for the students. Summary: T: when we compare more than two things we should plus “the” before the superlative words and we use “the most”and the “fewest”to talk about countable nouns. We use “the most” and “the least” to talk about uncountable nouns.
Step III Practice
Use the table on Page 28 about the life in Nan cy’s, John’s and Daniel’s school to make a dialogue.
Sample conversation:
A: Who studies the most s ubjects?
B: Daniel studies the most subjects.
A: Who joins the fewest clubs?
B: John joins the fewest clubs.
A: Who has the least free time?
B: Daniel has the least free time.
Step IV Task
Task O ne:
Complete the sentences on Page 29.
T: We have known when we compare more than two things, we use “the most”, “the fewest” to talk about countable n ouns, and we use “the most” and “the least”to talk about uncountable nouns. Please complete the sentences on Part B1 on page 29.
Task Two:
Choose the proper words before countable and uncountable nouns
T: Now, let’s come to Part B2. Wha t can you see in this part?
S1: I can see many different food.
T: What are they?
S2: They are tomatoes, juice, eggs, beef, bananas and rice.
T: Yes, you are right. Could you divide these foods in to two groups? Think about it.
After several minutes, ask students to put the food into two catalogs.
T: Now according to the rules, finish the B2 on page 30.
Step V Consolidation
1. Group Work (3-4 students). Ask students to write about their recent activities. And then make them compare these activities with other group members.
Sample:
Jack reads more books than Mary, but Tim read more books than Jack, so Tim reads
the most books and Mary reads the fewest books.
