A New Friend
Last week was the best week ever! I made a new friend named Emily and she is really cool. Emily just moved to our town from far away and joined my class at school. On her first day, she seemed really shy and didn't talk much. But then at recess, I noticed her standing alone by the swing set, looking a little lost.
I decided to go over and introduce myself. "Hi, my name is Sarah," I said with a big smile. "What's your name?"
Emily looked up at me with her big green eyes. "Emily," she said softly.
"It's nice to meet you Emily! Do you want to swing with me?"
I asked, gesturing to the empty swings.
Emily nodded and gave me a small smile back. We spent the whole recess period swinging together and chatting. I learned that Emily had moved here from California, which is all the way across the country! Her dad got a new job so they had to move
to our little town in Virginia. Emily said she was really sad to leave all her friends behind.
"Don't worry," I assured her. "I'm going to be your new best friend! We're going to have so much fun together."
Emily's face lit up at that and we've been inseparable ever since. I'm so happy I went over and introduced myself that day. Emily is the nicest, funniest, coolest person I've ever met!
After school that first day, I invited Emily over to my house to play. My mom made us chocolate chip cookies and we played Candyland and Did Not Lava in my room for hours. We had a total blast! Emily even got to meet my dog Rufus. He's kind of crazy but Emily thought he was adorable.
The next day at school, Emily and I partnered up for everything. We were lab partners in science, reading buddies during quiet time, and line leaders when we went to gym class. Having a friend to do everything with made school a million times more fun!
At lunch, Emily and I traded parts of our lunches like we had been friends forever. I gave her my carrots because she loves carrots, and she gave me her strawberry yogurt because I'm obsessed with strawberry yogurt. We spent the whole time
giggling and joking around. A few other girls weren't being very nice though, whispering and pointing at Emily behind her back. I guess they were judging her for being the new kid. How rude!
"Just ignore them," I told Emily. "They're just being stupid. You're way cooler than them anyway."
Emily smiled at me. "Thanks Sarah. You're the best friend ever!"
After lunch, we played runners at recess, chasing each other around the playground screaming and laughing like maniacs. We were having so much fun that we didn't even realize the bell had rung! Mrs. Taylor had to come outside and yell at us to line up. We just couldn't stop cracking up about it.
On Friday, I invited Emily over for a sleepover at my house. We had a pillow fight and made a huge mess in the living room with feathers everywhere. Then we baked cupcakes and made a humongous frosting fight in the kitchen! Mom was not too happy about having to clean up after us. Whoops!
That night, we stayed up late watching movies, painting each other's nails, and telling scary stories with a flashlight under the covers. I haven't laughed that much in forever. Emily and I are
like two peas in a pod - we have sooo much in common! It's like she's the sister I never had.
The rest of the weekend, Emily came over to my house again and we played outside on the swingset and trampoline all day. We had pretend light-saber battle after pretend light-saber battle, defending the galaxy as Jedi knights. We chased after Rufus a lot too, but that crazy dog just never gets tired!
On Sunday night, we were both really sad that our fun weekend was coming to an end. We pinky promised about a million times that we would be best friends forever and ever. No matter what!
This week at school has been a million times better than last week now that I have Emily as my friend. We've been having a blast making up games at recess, cheering each other on in gym class, and helping each other with our work. I've never had a friend quite like Emily before.
Last night, my mom asked me what my favorite part about having Emily as a new friend was. "Everything!" I told her. "She's just so much fun to be around. I feel like I can really be myself with her and not worry about anything."
Mom smiled really big at that. "I'm so happy you've made such a wonderful new friend Sarah. Just remember to always be a good friend back to her too."
And I will! I'm going to be the bestest friend ever to Emily. We're going to create so many fun memories together throughout elementary school. I just know that Emily and I are going to be friends for life!

Making a New Friend
Summer vacation was almost over, and I was feeling a little nervous about going back to school. My best friend Emily had moved away, and I didn't know who I would hang out with at recess or sit with at lunch. I hoped I would make a new friend soon, but I'm kind of shy, so I was worried it might be hard.
On the first day of third grade, I walked into my new classroom and looked around. There were a lot of kids I didn't know. I recognized a few faces from last year, but not many. The teacher, Mrs. Thompson, seemed really nice. She had us go around the room and introduce ourselves one by one. When it was my turn, I stood up at my desk and said, "Hi, my name is Sophie, and my favorite animal is a dolphin."
After the introductions, Mrs. Thompson put us into reading groups. I was placed in a group with three other girls I didn't know very well: Olivia, Ava, and a new student named Isabelle. As we started our reading exercise, I noticed that Isabelle's backpack had dolphins all over it. How cool! Maybe she liked dolphins as much as I did.
At lunch, I scanned the cafeteria, hoping to spot a friendly face to sit with. Then I saw Isabelle sitting alone at a table near the corner. I took a deep breath and walked over. "Hi Isabelle," I said. "Do you mind if I sit here?" She looked up and gave me a big smile. "Not at all! I'd love some company."
As we ate our lunches, Isabelle and I started chatting. I learned that she had just moved here from Texas over the summer, and she was a huge dolphin fan, just like me. We discovered we both loved watching dolphin documentaries and going to the aquarium. We also both took swimming lessons and one day hoped to try dolphin swimming – where you actually get in the water with real dolphins!
After lunch, Isabelle and I played together at recess. We jumped rope, played on the swings, and even joined a game of kickball for a while. I was having so much fun with my new friend.
She was funny, kind, and we already had this special connection over our shared love of dolphins.
In the following weeks, Isabelle and I became inseparable at school. We worked together on projects, played crazy games we made up at recess, and spent a lot of our free time looking at dolphin facts and pictures online. Our favorite thing was recess though, when we would whisper back and forth about what we thought it would be like to actually swim with dolphins.
"Can you imagine getting to pet one?" Isabelle would say. "Their skin is supposed to feel like a crisp plastic bag!"
"That's so weird!" I would giggle. "I wonder if their breath is really as bad as they say, like fish breath!"
One day, Isabelle came to school looking a little sad. I asked her what was wrong as we lined up for gym class.
"My mom just got a new job," she said quietly. "We're moving to Florida at the end of this month."
"Florida?" I froze. "But...that's so far away! You'll be all the way across the country!" I couldn't believe my new best friend was leaving already.
Isabelle nodded, looking like she might cry. "I know. I'm really gonna miss you, Sophie."
Over the next couple weeks, Isabelle and I spent every minute we could together, soaking up our friendship. We traded addresses and made each other promise to become pen pals. We took a silly dolphin selfie together to remember each other by. And we made a pinky promise to continue our dream of one day swimming with dolphins.
Finally, it was Isabelle's last day. I gave her one of my prized dolphin keychains as a going-away gift, and she gave me a beautiful dolphin necklace her mom had bought her. In the car rider line, I watched and waved as her car pulled away, a million scared but excited for her new adventure.
I missed Isabelle every day after that. Meeting her felt like fate – we just clicked from the moment we realized we were dolphin twins! She had gotten me through those first few weeks of third grade feeling so alone. We supported each other's biggest dreams and made so many amazing memories.
A few weeks after she left, I got my first letter from Isabelle in the mail. I rushed up to my room, carefully tore it open, and read every word. She had included a photo of her new house and her new bedroom, which had two dolphins painted on the wall! She wrote all about her new school, her new neighborhood, and the pool in her community that had the coolest
slides shaped like dolphins. She sounded happy there, which made me
happy too.
I pulled out a piece of dolphin-themed stationery to write her back. "Guess what?" I wrote. "My parents are taking me to the aquarium this weekend to swim with the dolphins! I'll video it and send it to you, I promise. Maybe someday we can do it together for real!"
From that day on, Isabelle and I stayed the closest of friends. We sent each other videos, pictures, letters - anything we could to continue growing our friendship over the miles. We cheered each other on, laughed together, and made so many more amazing plans and dreams.
Years later, in high school, we finally made good on our promise: we went on a trip together and
swam with dolphins in the wild! It was everything we had imagined and more. We got to pet them, watch them play, and see their sleek bodies gliding through the water. I'll never forget the look of pure joy on Isabelle's face as the first dolphin swam up to her.
We may have met by chance, but Isabelle became my soul sister because of our weird little obsession over dolphins. Our friendship was magical from the very start, and it has only grown stronger despite the distance between us. I'm so grateful that shy little girl decided to take a chance and sit with the new kid all those years ago. Isabelle enriched my life in countless ways, and I know our bond will remain
special forever - all thanks to our flippered friends!

Making a New Friend
It was the first day of school, and I was feeling a bit nervous. It was a new year, and I was starting at a different elementary school than the one I had been going to before. Mom said we had to move because of her new job, but I didn't really want to leave my old school and my friends behind. I knew it was going to be hard to make new friends all over again.
As I walked into my new classroom, I looked around at all the unfamiliar faces. There were lots of kids already talking and laughing with each other, but I didn't know anyone. I took a seat near the back, hoping the teacher would tell us what to do next.
"Good morning, class!" said a smiling woman who must have been our teacher, Mrs. Thompson. "Welcome to the fourth grade! I'm so excited to get to know all of you this year. Why don't we go around the room and introduce ourselves? Tell us your name, one thing you like to do for fun, and one thing you're looking forward to this school year."
Oh no, I thought. I hate introducing myself in front of people I don't know. My stomach felt all twisted up inside as each kid took a turn. Finally, it was my turn.
"Hi, my name is Jamie," I said quietly. "I like to read books, and I'm looking forward to making new friends here." I tried to smile, but I was so nervous.
After the introductions, Mrs. Thompson started talking about all the fun activities and field trips we would get to do that year. I wasn't really paying attention, though. I was too busy worrying about how I would ever make friends at this new school.
At recess, I just kind of hung around by myself on the playground, watching all the other kids running around and playing together. A couple of girls asked me if I wanted to join their jump rope game, but I shook my head shyly. I didn't feel confident enough to jump in.
The first few weeks went by like that. I would sit alone at lunch, play by myself at recess, and hang back quietly in class. I just couldn't seem to figure out how to break into the social circles that had already formed. Everyone else already had their friend groups, and I felt like an outsider.
Then one day, we had an assignment to work on science projects in small groups. Mrs. Thompson split us up into groups of four, and I ended up with three other kids I didn't really know - Sam, Lily, and Marcus.
"Let's make a model of the solar system!" said Sam excitedly. He seemed to be one of the more talkative, outgoing kids in our class.
Lily and Marcus agreed, so we got to work planning out our project. At first, I was pretty quiet and just tried to follow their lead. But as we started discussing ideas and deciding how to build the planets and put it all together, I started to feel a little more comfortable and joined in more.
"We could use styrofoam balls for the planets," I suggested shyly. "And paint them different colors."
"Yeah, that's a great idea!" Marcus said enthusiastically. "The big yellow one could be the sun."
We ended up having a lot of fun working on our project together over the next few days. Sam made sure to include me and get my opinion on things. Lily and Marcus were really nice and seemed to genuinely want me to be part of the group. I started looking forward to our science project time because I was enjoying getting to know them better.
When it came time to present our project to the class, I was still a little nervous. But having worked on it with Sam, Lily, and Marcus made me feel more at ease. We all took turns explaining the different parts, and I think our solar system model turned out great!
After that, things started to change for me at school. Sam, Lily, and Marcus made an effort to include me at recess and sit with me at lunch. Suddenly, I had friends! We would play together on the playground, laughing and having fun. At lunchtime, they would ask me questions about my favorite books and TV shows, and I would actually feel excited to tell them.
Before long, I was also becoming friends with some of Sam, Lily, and Marcus's other friends too. My shyness started to go away as I realized how kind and welcoming everyone could be once you got to know them. I stopped feeling like such an outsider and more like I belonged.
Now when I think back to that first day of school, I can't believe how nervous and scared I was to start over at a new school. Making new friends wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. All it took was finding a few nice people who made the effort to include me, and everything changed from there. Sam, Lily, and Marcus will always be extra special to me because they were the first ones who showed me that friends can come from unexpected places if you just open yourself up to meeting new people.
I'm so grateful that we ended up in that science project group together. Not only did we make a really cool model of the solar system, but we ended up creating something even more important - lasting friendships. This year has turned out to be loads of fun so far, and I can't wait to see what other adventures are in store with my new best friends by my side!

Making a New Friend
The first day of school is always scary. You don't know anyone and everything seems big and confusing. That's how I felt walking into my new fourth grade class. I looked around nervously at all the unfamiliar faces until my eyes landed on a girl
sitting alone. She had pretty red hair in braids and freckles across her nose. I decided to be brave and introduce myself.
"Hi, I'm Emily," I said, giving her a little wave. "Want to be friends?"
She looked surprised but then smiled back at me. "Sure! I'm Ava."
We started chatting and I learned Ava had just moved to town from across the state. She felt just as nervous as me about being the new kid. As we talked more, we realized we had a lot in common - we both loved reading, hated math, and wanted to try out for the school play. By the end of the day, it felt like we had been best friends forever.
I'm so glad I found the courage to talk to Ava that first day. She turned out to be the nicest, funniest person I know. We've been inseparable ever since and I don't know what I'd do without her. Sometimes you just have to take a leap and put yourself out there. You never know when you might make a friend for life!

My New Best Friend
It was the first day of fourth grade and I was really nervous. I had gone to the same school with the same kids since kindergarten, but this year was going to be different. A new family had moved to our town over the summer and their daughter, Amy, was going to be in my class. I didn't know anyone who had a kid transferring in so late and I wasn't sure how to act around the new girl.
When I walked into the classroom, I immediately saw Amy sitting alone at a desk near the front. She had long brown hair pulled back into a ponytail and was wearing a green t-shirt with a rainbow on it. I thought her shirt was really cool. As I took my usual seat in the second row, I noticed Amy looked a little scared and out of place. I felt bad for her having to start at a new school where she didn't know anyone.
During our morning work period, Mrs. Taylor asked me to be Amy's buddy for the day and show her around the school. I was surprised she picked me, but also excited to make a new friend. I went over and introduced myself.
"Hi Amy, I'm Jessica. Mrs. Taylor asked me to show you around today and help you get settled in," I said, trying to sound friendly.
"Oh, okay. Thanks Jessica," Amy replied shyly, looking up at me with her big green eyes.
I showed Amy where things were in our classroom like the reading nook, cubby area, and bathroom. Then I gave her a tour of the rest of the school - the cafeteria, gym, library, art room, and playground. With each new place, Amy seemed to loosen up a little more. By the time we made it back to our classroom, she was smiling and asking me questions.
"Do you have any favorite games to play at recess?" Amy asked.
"Well, I really like playing freeze dance," I responded. "Basically when the music stops you have to freeze in whatever position you're in until it starts again. The last one still freezing at the end wins."
"That sounds fun! I'll have to try that game," Amy said excitedly.
When the recess bell rang, Amy and I raced out to the playground together. I introduced her to some of my friends like Sophia and Emma and we all played freeze dance. Amy was really good at coming up with funny freeze positions! After a few rounds, we decided to go down the big twisty slide. We must
have gone down that slide a hundred times, laughing more and more each time.
As I stood in the lunch line with Amy, I couldn't believe how quickly we had become friends. She was really nice, funny, and didn't seem shy at all anymore. Over pizza and carrot sticks, Amy told me all about her old town and how she was sad to leave her friends behind but excited to start over. I felt honored that she was opening up to me.
For the rest of the day, Amy and I were inseparable. We worked together on our math worksheet, read together during Reading Buddies time, and even managed to get put into the same small group for our science experiment. Every time I looked over at Amy, she had a big smile on her face. I could tell she was having a good first day.
When the final bell rang, I walked Amy out to the pickup area where I saw a woman I assumed was her mom waiting. Amy gave me a big hug and said "Thank you so much for being my buddy today Jessica! I'm so glad we're going to be in the same class. You made my first day so much better."
"You're so welcome, Amy! I'm really happy we met too.
We're going to have such a great year!" I responded, hugging her back tightly.
As I watched Amy skip over to her mom's car, I felt so proud that I had made an effort to be her friend. Making friends for the first time can be really scary, but Amy and I had hit it off right away. I already knew this was going to be the best year yet!
Over the next few weeks, Amy and I became inseparable best friends. We worked on all our projects together, had countless laughing fits during class, and spent most recesses running around like crazy people. My favorite time though was when we would have sleepovers at each other's houses every few weekends.
Amy's house always smelled like pancakes and maple syrup since her dad liked to make breakfast for dinner sometimes. After stuffing ourselves with pancakes, we would put on our comfiest pajamas and set up our sleeping bags in the living room to watch movies all night. We'd stay up way past our bedtimes, giggling about boys we thought were cute or funny stories from school that week. Then we would finally fall asleep around 3am, dreaming about adventures we

Title: My New Best Friend
Hi there! My name is Emma, and I'm 10 years old. I want to tell you all about my new best friend, Jessica. I met her a few months ago, and she's the coolest girl ever!
It all started on the first day of school this year. I was feeling really nervous because I didn't know anyone in my new class. The teacher told us to find a seat, and I ended up sitting next to this girl with long, curly brown hair and the biggest smile I'd ever seen. That was Jessica.
"Hi, I'm Jessica," she said, sticking out her hand. "What's your name?"
I shook her hand and told her my name. She seemed so friendly and confident, and I was really shy at first. But Jessica made me feel comfortable right away.
Over the next few weeks, Jessica and I started sitting together at lunch and playing together during recess. We found out that we both love art and drawing, and we would spend hours doodling pictures of animals, flowers, and anything else we could think of. Jessica is an amazing artist – she can draw anything perfectly, even though we're only in fourth grade!
One day during recess, we were playing on the swings when a group of older boys came over and started teasing us. They
were calling us names and saying mean things about Jessica's drawings. I was really scared, but Jessica didn't seem fazed at all. She looked right at them and said, "At least I can draw better than all of you put together!" Then she stuck her tongue out at them. The boys didn't know what to say, so they just walked away. I couldn't believe how brave Jessica was!
From that day on, we were inseparable. We had sleepovers almost every weekend, and our parents became good friends too. Jessica taught me how to braid hair, and I taught her how to do cartwheels. We loved watching movies together and making up silly dances to all the songs.
Last summer, our families went on a camping trip together. We went hiking, caught frogs in the stream, and built a huge fire to make s'mores. One night, we were sitting around the campfire when Jessica turned to me and said, "Emma, you're my best friend in the whole world." I gave her the biggest hug ever and told her she was my best friend too. It was the happiest moment of my life!
Now we're in fifth grade, and Jessica and I are still as close as ever. We've been through so much together – good times and bad times, laughter and tears. But no matter what, we've always had each other's backs. Jessica is the most loyal, caring, and fun
friend anyone could ask for. She's taught me to be brave, to stand up for myself, and to never be afraid to be my true, silly self.
I know that as we get older, we might start drifting apart from some of our friends. People change, and that's okay. But I really hope Jessica and I will be best friends forever. We've already promised that when we're grown-ups, we'll live next door to each other and our kids will be best friends too! I can't imagine my life without her.
If you're lucky enough to have a best friend like Jessica, never take them for granted. Cherish the memories you make together, laugh until your stomach hurts, and always be there for each other, no matter what. A true best friend is one of the most precious gifts life can give you. I'm so grateful that Jessica came into my life and showed me what real friendship is all about.。
