We walked in so quietly that the nurse at the desk didn't even lift her eyes from the book. Mum pointed at a big chair by the door and I knew she wanted me to sit down. While I watched mouth open in surprise, Mum took off her hat and coat and gave them to me to hold. She walked quietly to the small room by the lift and took out a wet mop. She pushed the mop past the desk and as the nurse looked up, Mum nodded and said, "Very dirty floors. " "Yes, I'm glad they've finally decided to clean them, "the nurse answered. She looked at Mum strangely and said, "But aren't you working late?"
Mum just pushed harder, each swipe(拖一下)of the mop taking her farther and farther down the hall. I watched until she was out of sight and the nurse had turned back to writing in the big book. After a long time Mum came back. Her eyes were shining.
She quickly put the mop back and took my hand. As we turned to go out of the door, Mum bowed politely to the nurse and said, "Thank you."
Outside, Mum told me, "Dagmar is fine. No fever. " "You saw her, Mum?"
"Of course. I told her about the hospital rules, and she will not expect us until tomorrow. Dad will stop worrying as well. It's a fine hospital. But such floors! A mop is no good. You need a brush."

The food we eat seems to have a great effect on our health. Although science has made big steps in making food more fit to eat, it has, at the same time, made many foods unfit to eat. Some research has shown that perhaps eighty percent of human illness is related to food and forty percent of cancer is related to food as well.
That food is related to illness is not a new discovery. In 1945, some researchers realized that things commonly used to keep colors in meats and other food additives caused cancer. Yet, these additives remain in our food, and it is difficult to know which things on the wrappings of foods are helpful or harmful. The additives which we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often give penicillin to their animals, and because of this, penicillin has been found in the milk of cows. Sometimes similar things are supplied to animals not for their health, but just to make a profit. The farmers are simply trying to fatten the animals in order to get a higher price on the market. Although some countries have tried to control such things, the practice continues.
28. According to this passage, we can know _____.
A. perhaps most of human illness is caused by what we eat
B. perhaps most kinds of cancer are related to what people eat
C. cancer was discovered in 1945
D. science has made food unfit to eat
29. Things that are used to keep colors in meats are _______.
A. harmful
B. useless
C. helpless
D. dangerous
30. People use additives _____.
A. to make food more unfit to eat
B. to improve the color and taste of the food
C. to change the color of the food
D. to take off the diseases of the food
31. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. Some wrappings of food are harmful.
B. Farmers try to make more money on the market by fattening their animals.
C. "The practice continues" means "things are still going on like that".
D. We needn't take care of what we eat.

Helping children notice their interests can be a fun and exciting time for parents. You will be able to participate in several different things to help your children widen their interests and develop connections with other children. Your children need to identify their interests so they can make friends and start planning out their future. Some interests will be able to help your children get scholarships (奖学金)to college and they can even help them with their careers some day.
Children need to use their imagination and expand their learning ability. During the summer months, enroll(使加入)your children in summer youth camps that teach a variety of programs. Tell them that they need to participate in at least 3 classes to see if there is something they really enjoy. If they still are resistant after that time, allow them to enroll in a different program that they want to try. Some children need to attend the class more than once to determine if they are comfortable there and if they really like it.
Ask your children if they would like to bring along a brother or sister or friend
with them to the new activity. When children have to face new challenges, it is often easier for them to do so if they have someone else with them, it will help to reduce their unwillingness and anxiety.
When you take them to a place with other children, help them make friends. Children learn from your behavior and they may not understand how to approach other children. Seeing that their parents are comfortable with one another, they will let down their guard and may have an easier time socializing with other children of their ages.
32.What’s the passage mainly about?
A. How to help children get scholarships.
B. How to help children find new friendships.
C. How to help children develop wider interests.
D. How to help children develop their learning ability.
33.A child needs to participate in at least 3 class because_______.
A. it can help him make more friends
B. it can help him find his real interest
C. he won’t easily get bored in different classes
D. he can develop learning ability in different classes
34.Bring a brother or sister or friend to a new activity can help a child_______.
A. deal with new challenges easily
B. enjoy more happy time
C. learn more new skills
D. get rid of loneliness
35. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Parents should leave their children in a new environment.
B. It’s easy for children to socialize with other children of their ages.
C. Children prefer to make friends with children older than themselves.
D. Parents play an important role in helping their children make friends.

Tips for Cooking on a Tight Schedule
From my experience, there are three main reasons why people don't cook more often:ability, money, and time.__36__ Money is a topic I'll save for another day. So today I want to give you some wisdom about how to make the most of the time you spend in the kitchen. Here are three tips for great cooking on a tight schedule:
1. Think ahead. The moments when I think cooking is a pain are when I'm already hungry and there's nothing ready to eat. So think ahead of the coming week. When will you have time to cook? Do you have the right materials already? __37__
2. Make your time worth it. When you do find time to cook a meal, make the most of it and save yourself time later on. Are you making one loaf of bread? __38__ it takes around the same amount of time to make more of something. So save yourself the effort for a future meal.
3. __39__ This may surprise you, but one of the best tools for making cooking worth your time is experimentation. The more you learn and the more you try, the more ability you have to take control of your food and your schedule.
Hopefully that gives you a good start.__40__ And don't let a busy schedule discourage you from making some great changes in the way you eat and live!
A. Try new things.
B. Ability is easily improved.
C. Make three or four instead.
D. Understand your food better.
E. Cooking is a burden for many people.

So ants are gathering their winter food in the middle of summer. It’s important to be 65 (reality). You have got to think about rocks as you enjoy the sand and sun. Think ahead. The third part is that ants think about summer all winter. During the winter, they remind 66 , “This won’t last long; we’ll soon be out of here.” And 67 the first warm day, the ants are out. If it 68 (turn) cold again, they will dive back down. But they come out again if it is warm. They can’t wai t 69 (get) out. 书面表达
Fast food is very popular with people in China, especially the young. The reasons for its popularity are as follows.
Firstly, with the quick pace of life, fast food is really convenient and time-saving. People can save a lot of time and trouble with food ready made so that they can devote themselves to taking part in other activities. Secondly, the prices for fast food are reasonable and service is excellent. However, it is not a good choice in terms of nutrition, because the nutrition in it is not well balanced.
In my opinion, people can have fast food when they are really in a hurry. If not, they had better have the traditional food. Only in this way can they keep healthy.。
