The urban heat island effect can be bad for human populations during extreme weather, but there's less known about the impact on animals. To study this effect, Pipoly and her team members put hundreds of nest boxes in two Hungarian cities and also in nearby forests. During the time frame of 2013 to2018,the team observed a total of 760 groups of baby birds, recording the size of the two-week-old chicks and their survival.
