Difficult points: 1. Know the difference between may and might.
2. Know how to use other ways to express possibility.
Ⅳ Teaching aims
Knowledge aim: 1. Know how to express possibility: may, might, it is possible
to/that…, sth./sb. will probably do.
2. Identify the three features of modals.
Ability aim: 1. Learn to say something is possible to happen.
2. Learn to give advice.
Emotion aim: 1. Understand that the harder you work, the better result it may be.
2. Raise Ss awareness of safety on using heating devices in winter.

Step 1 Warming up (情景导入)
1. Greetings and free talk—Christmas is coming.
2. Introducing the 'City of Ice'—Harbin.
Step 2 Listening activity: Before Daming goes to Harbin(听对话,初步归纳may, might含义)
1. Watch a weather report and a dialogue between Daming and Lingling.
2. Do the T or F exercise, then tell the meaning of may/might.
3. Listen to another dialogue and complete sentences.
4. Conclude the negative form of may and the meaning of it is possible that.
Step 3 Speaking activity:Winter in Harbin(说句式,进一步感知may, might用法)
1.Show pictures and ask: What is possible for Daming to see?
2. Discuss in groups then use this pattern to say:
He may/might see...but he may/might not see...
Step 4 Presentation of may and might(教师引导,学生归纳总结)
1. Complete the definition of modals.
2. Discuss in pairs and complete the three features according to the examples.
3. Exercise: complete sentences
4. Compare the difference between may and might.
Step 5 Other ways expressing 'possibility' (难点辨析)
1. Introduction of it is possible to do, it is possible that and sth./sb. will probably do
2. Show example sentences and read together:
It may/might snow
=It is possible to snow
It is possible that it will snow
It will probably snow.
Step 6 Consolidation(语言知识检测及巩固)
1. Match exercise

Step 7 Writing activity: Winter in Huizhou(语言技能输出)
1. Show pictures about winter in Huizhou
2. Discuss in groups and write down 3 pieces of advice on the colour paper to Daming. (using today's patterns)
3. Show Ss’ work, detect errors and correct them.
4. Safety tips on using hot water bag and hot blanket in winter.(大升华:冬季取暖,安全第一)
