13、This morning I got an e-mail from Roy. It seems that my boy really enjoys his new life at Harvard University. The
e-mail made me think of the first day when we moved into this house.
Little Roy ran around the new house with great excitement and tried to move his own things, such as his toys, books and clothes, into the house. Suddenly, his little hand knocked over a bottle of paint on the shelf. The paint made the tidy floor and white wall a terrible mess. “Oh, my dear!” My wife rushed in angrily. I looked at my son, and his small face w as filled with terror.
I smiled and held his hand, “Take it easy, Roy. Now let’s do something to make it look nice.” I took out a brush. “You see, Dad is a magician. I can change it into a big tree.”
His mother soon helped paint some butterflies and flowers on the wall with the paint.
We spent the whole afternoon painting and laughing. The wall became a beautiful forest with plants, birds and small animals. Blue sky and white clouds were also painted by Roy. On that day, everybody in the house knew something special happened.

14、 A French-language daily in Belgium has issued what is thought to be Europe’s first 3D newspaper. But you must read it with a pair of special glasses.
All the photos and ads in La Derniere Heure’s (DH) special edition were given a three-dimensional effect (3D效果), but the next remained the same. DH’s editor said there were no further 3D plans because of the costs. Reviewers in France spoke highly of the paper, but they said the overall result was “far from perfect”.
Editor Hubert Leclercq said it took two months to get ready for the special edition, which had a higher than normal print run of 115,000 copies for the stores selling newspapers. “We hear about 3D cinema, television and video games, so we took up the challenge,” Mr. Leclercq told the AFP news agency.
According to PC World’s French edition, readers could get the best results by holding the paper 50cm from the eyes in a well-lit area. “It takes a few minutes to get used to pictures in 3D,” it said, nothing limited the quality of the viewing lenses (镜片).

17、After arriving in New Jersey, US, for a one-year cultural exchange program, I noticed that many local people love Chinese culture. I felt like sharing our culture with them. As one of the 13th-generation disciples of Chen-style tai chi, I set up a tai chi club for local primary students. My tai chi program lasted for 10 weeks, with classes taking place every Tuesday.
I have been in several cultural exchange programs before, but I haven’t really wor ked with little kids. It was a little intimidating for me at first. Kids are extremely noisy and active. It was challenging enough just to take control of the class. In the beginning, we could only go over a few gestures during each class, as I spent most of my time working on class discipline (纪律).
However, as the class went on, we grew more and more familiar with each other. Slowly, I found the fun and sense of achievement that lies under the kids’ nervousness and tiredness. Watching the kids learn tai c hi under my instruction was exciting. Nothing made me happier than seeing their smiles after learning a new gesture. With each punch, kick and stretch, I could sense their progress and their interest in learning. They asked me many questions about tai chi.
This experience also improved my leadership. I realized that it was important to unite the whole class and encourage kids to help one another when they meet difficulties. I will try my best to spread tai chi culture here.

While Westerners were getting used to paying with credit cards(信用卡)or bank cards at the very beginning of the 21st century, most Chinese people still liked to pay in cash (paper money) out of habit. However, today, Chinese people may be leading the world in mobile payment, mainly WeChat Pay and Alipay.
Foreigners feel amazed when Chinese people buy everything with their phones. At least, this was the case for Lim Swee Say, Manpower Minister of Singapore.
